Walking back in time ... The green milkshake machine sits along the back wall ... Vacant stools lined up along a counter where Heinz bottles are neatly nested with silver topped sugar canisters, ramikens overflowing with Smuckers and little mug shaped shakers of salt and pepper. Plastic encased white menu's with black graphics and a sketching of a woman ... I discover she is Marian (The current owner) not Johnnie. As the "classically" attired waitress with her hair appropriately in a bun took my order I just kept sensing a return to much better times. Families could choose the rush of the arched fast food next door where plastic rules but if they care about family then Johnnie's flatware, coffee mugs that are washed after each use, and a nostalgic breakfast of conversation should be the choice. My meal ... The special $4.50 prepared in real time. And, as my order reached the cook I smiled as I heard the sound of the stainless steel griddle being scraped. Fresh cup of "Joe" in a coffee mug of my younger days arrived and this was breakfast out. Looking around I see newspapers being read ... Yes print papers even though I am online but so cool to see. Chattering and friendliness. My meal arrives quickly ... Fresh and hot off the griddle with perfect bacon and pancakes that taste so good with butter melting down the small stacks sides (thick hot cakes that seem more like 3 than 2), and my egg was just right. Only complaint ... Had to ask for a coffee refill but all was good "everything alright?" Yes indeed ... A trip back in time ... A really good decision! Funny how some restaurants just take away the nasty world for precious moments we all need. Marian ... Johnnie may be gone but your place took me back in a very good way to the 1960's!

Breakfast menu

Everything is good. We'll be back with family. We are big breakfast eaters. The service was friendly no concerns or problems from anybody since we got here. The experience is like eating at your grandma house. I would recommend this place of you love to eat.

Good food, reasonable prices, and big portions! Ordered the Bud's Special which is essentially a sausage and egg biscuit smothered in gravy. Very good. Others at my table ordered creamed chipped beef which was good as well. Cash only!

The word Johnnie traces back to the Latin word "John", meaning "terrible restaurant". It definitely fits the name. The pancakes are excellent, and the service is great. Would eat here! Love it! Best food ever! I would say more stuff, but my fingers are tired!

All of the ladies were very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be frequenting again.

Breakfast is awesome.

Best breakfast spot around! Had Bud's special, scrambled eggs, cheese, sausage on a biscuit covered in sausage gravy! Outstanding! And also had banana walnut pancake special. They were huge, fluffy and delicious! Definitely visit this restaurant!

My first impression of this place is.. It's filthy dirty in there the plus side is grill is very clean. Someone needs to do a serious cleaning at Johnny restaurant. Bathrooms are very dirty. The waitress was really nice. The male cook was eating n busy sucking on his fingers..I guess what he was eating was delicious! The waitress forgot our toast I made sure to watch if the cook washed his hands. He briefly random under the water without any soap. Obviously I refused the toast sorry I won't be back there again

I only get one egg scrambled..so don't judge my portions lol

I have been coming to Johnnie's for at least 30 years. Small but cute place and seats more than you expect! If you come early on a Sunday the wait is never long. Feels like you are visiting friends or having family over when you are here. You can sit at the counter or a booth or table. Family owned, same friendly staff to greet you, low prices for great food. They have breakfast and lunch options. Nothing extravagant, just a good meal. Opened until 2pm daily. They just recently remodeled their booths, tables, counter, floors and wall decor. Looks great. Cash only, but you won't need much as prices are low and there is an ATM inside!

If your corned beef hash and homefries don't look like this, RUN!

Friendly service. Great comfort food. Old diner style seating, so comfortable. Always see someone I know enjoying a meal when I'm there.

This time I ordered the chicken empanadas and smoked wings with Freddy J's Classic Mild sauce. The freshness of the food really stood out, especially the chicken empanadas -- and the portion size was generous, making them perfect for sharing (or not!). The Classic Mild sauce was good, but I'll admit I still prefer their Hot Honey Garlic sauce from my previous visit -- that one just hits differently. I also ordered Yuenglings from their happy hour menu, which paired perfectly with the wings. Everything was consistent with my last visit, which honestly says a lot. There was nothing off about the food or service, and I genuinely can't think of anything that needed improvement. Service was friendly, fast, and attentive, and the vibe was relaxed and lively -- a little loud, but still easy enough to hold a conversation. The space felt clean and comfortable, making it a great spot to unwind after work. This visit didn't change my opinion -- I still highly recommend Freddy J's. It's a solid choice for happy hour, casual dining, and group outings.

The staff walked us through the menu and offered a number of suggestions. There are a few tables, more like bar stools to sit at tucked by the window. A number of drink options in coolers and chips. After hearing all the suggestions my wife and I settled on the Italian Stallion as well as the Sipala la la. The Italian stallion comes with a lot of meat but I think it is overshadowed by the bread. I didn't taste any mayonnaise so the dry bread did nothing for the sandwich. I highly wish I had lesser bread or if the bread wasn't so dry. While I did finish it it was moreso the tasty meat. The Sipala la la seems like a steak and cheese. It comes with a number of peppers which I asked to not have. I spent a few minutes trying to remove as many as I can. Once I got most of them out, the steak and cheese was delicious. I'd get this again. The bread is much softer and taste much more flavorful than the Italian. Overall it's a cool spot in the middle of nowhere. I don't have many reasons to come to Atlantic City so I doubt I'll be back but they are worth a shot if you get your sandwich done the right way.

It has a small‑town, cozy vibe with booths and tables that make you feel right at home. I've been here several times and everything I've tried has been consistently fresh and delicious. Most recently, I ordered a garden salad with grilled chicken, even though I originally asked for a side salad, what came out was a huge, vibrant plate full of fresh veggies and perfectly cooked chicken. It was absolutely amazing. I've also had their tuna & turkey sandwiches, BLT and subs & all excellent. But my absolute favorite is the Souvlaki (Greek) Salad. It's outstanding every single time. I usually add grilled shrimp or chicken and you just can't beat it. It's huge, flavorful and always satisfying. They offer a wide variety of breakfast and lunch options, including vegan choices, and there's plenty of parking since it's in a plaza. Friendly staff, great food and a welcoming atmosphere, definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

The quality, flavor, and consistency of everything they make are outstanding. Every time I stop in, the baked goods speak for themselves. You can tell a lot of care and skill goes into what they produce, and it shows in both the taste and the loyal following they've built. The only "downside," if you can even call it that, is that there's never a lull in the action. This place is always busy. If you show up an hour before they're set to open, chances are there's already a hearty group of customers standing outside waiting for the doors to unlock.
