Charming is the best way to describe the ambiance of TW Howell's. From the street it looks like a small home. Tucked inside is maybe 8-10 tables so if you are stopping in on the weekend, prepare for a brief wait but they turn tables quickly and we felt the 15 minutes were well worth our time. The menu is small and offers the standard fare. Even better is the specials board. Make sure you take a gander because there are some real gems written in chalk letters. The grilled oatmeal sounded stellar and looked amazing. A neighboring table ordered it and I was prepared to follow in their footsteps until I learned of the orange marmalade stuffed French toast. It sounded like a winner so I went for it. Upon digging in I really appreciated the creaminess of the mascarpone and crispy grilled edges of the toast. Great textures. Nice flavor but seemed to lack that any strong citrus flavor. It was muted behind all that mascarpone cream. They could definitely adjust the ratio to give off more Orange but I really enjoyed it. Small very intimate breakfast/lunch (brunch) spot. I was honestly surprised at how tiny it is. The tables are very close. It's also small, so be prepared to wait on weekends. That said, the food here is phenomenal. The regular menu is big and sounded good, they also had a nice assortment of specials. I opted for the banana walnut pancake special. It came with butter and whipped cream. The bananas and walnuts were in the mix. The difference between putting them in the mix and just on top is stark. My daughter goes to school in South Jersey so when I come to see her I like to take her to brunch. Each time I do I like to find the little, off the beaten trail places. TW Howell's was just that, & quite the find (thanks to Yelp)! The place is pretty small with about 10 counter seats & a few tables. It looks fairly worn inside but that is all part of the charm. You can tell this is one of those local places where everyone knows each other, however we did not feel out of place at all. We were immediately acknowledged by a very pleasant woman (presumably the owner). They have an impressive menu as well as blackboard specials. I decided on the honey chicken salad sandwich & my daughter, the crabmeat eggs benedict. To say the food was delicious was an understatement. Although the portions are quite huge, we both finished them. Prices are incredibly reasonable, especially considering the portions. I will definitely be returning in the future! read more

I absolutely love TW Howells! I have been coming here for years and this place never ever disappoints!. The servers Debbie, and Ann Maria are top notch, service with a smile and very personable. You can't go wrong with anything you order here. Some of my favorites are the corned beef hash and the creamed chip beef (SOS), the pancakes are delish. Some of my favorite breakfast plates are Grandpop's corned beef hash skillet and the Combo #1 are huge portions. The Chef's Jersey Shore Eggs Benedict with crabmeat is awsome. To start the service was great. Our server was attentive and kind so that's what this place obviously has right. Where it falls short is the added extra charges everywhere. On the eggs, for credit cards, I'm pretty sure they would charge me for breathing air in there if they could. The food was mediocre until it was absolutely disgusting. I ordered a blt on toast and my husband ordered a breakfast burrito with a side of honey mustard, everything tasted like a dirty grill and burnt, the honey mustard was watery and tasted sour. Wow. What a gem on the way out of Atlantic City! It just so happens that my husband and I had to quickly scatter to find a dealership to change our tire, and were wondering where to go for breakfast. Upon trusting full hope in Yelp to find that special place in an unknown area, we made a decision to try TW Howell's. We got there on a nasty, rainy day, but this small rustic and friendly place was a well-awaited ray of sunshine. The staff is no frills, but welcoming and happy to do it kinda people. I got the combo of eggs, sausage and pancakes. Everything was good. The pancakes were humongous! (I took them to go and they provided us with a substantial car lunch later). My husband got a skillet and said his was ok, but the ambiance of this tiny happy place was all his taste buds needed. It was actually quite cheap compared to our NYC prices nowadays, and we left feeling satiated and content, wanting to go back next time we're in the area. The place is filled with car dealerships, but this place is definitely worth making a track to. read more

My friend had the traditional breakfast, two eggs, sausage, and bread. Really good portions. They left the coffee carafe and I nearly drank the whole carafe. Wanted to wake up and I did. The home fries were good and the side of raisin toast I had was also good. The coffee came in a small carafe so we didn't have to wait for refills. Special occasions, may be not the place, but fantastic food when your in the mood to break the diet this is the place. As other reviewers have pointed out the place is small and somewhat crowed, but that does not interfere with either the service or the very high quality of food. My perfect breakfast here are the skillet breakfast swerved in an actual pan. Way too much food so I always ask for the take out container when the meal is served. I promptly put half the meal in the takeout container for tomorrows breakfast or lunch. I am a big fan of their creamed chip beef, potatoes and eggs skillet. You can't eat it all and you must hide half of it so you don't keep nibbling after your full. Always unique specials on the Menu board. They put some really tasty dishes out. And yet, a menu is often unnecessary as the ten or so daily specials scribbled up on the chalk board-- many of them whimsically composed dishes that even Dr.Suess might find curious--are always unique, playful, and of course, fantastically delicious. Let me start off by saying that I like Howell's. I've been there several times and always ordered something different. The pros of Howell's are that the menu is extensive and they do have some creative specials that sound very good. I LOVE that they leave the coffee carafe with you. I do not love that you feel like you're literally sitting on top of people. I appreciate Chef Howell's desire to make the restaurant feel like an old-time, homey joint, but this place gets packed and isn't very well ventilated. In the summer it could potential ruin your meal. Who wants to eat an omelette and drink coffee when it's 85 degrees in the restaurant?? Given the popularity, I'd say it's a good time for Chef Howell to maybe think about expanding. Service is very good here; lots of regulars and the servers treat them as such. Chef Howell himself is often at the door to greet you, especially during busier hours. My reason for giving 3 stars is that I have been sick after eating here every single time. I've ordered everything from omelettes to soups to fajitas...sick every time. I've asked for egg whites only, I've asked for my food to be cooked with Pam. I don't know what the deal is, but I've had to stop going because I'm literally ill for at least an hour afterwards. My husband and I were in the area for a little getaway, and we HAD to find a good breakfast place - it's our favorite meal to go out to. This little spot stepped up to the plate, since it was only 5mins from where we were staying. We got there on a weekday morning around 930/10am. There were only 3 other parties there, I guess people have jobs or something. Anyway, we sat and were immediately served coffee and water - nice. I got a veggie scramble and he got some pancakes. We were served some of the most ENORMOUS portions I have ever seen. I got bacon and toast with my 8 eggs + veggies and finished half of everything. He demolished his pancakes but had to nap right after, natch. It was good food for cheap, which I will never complain about. Definitely worth popping into if you are in the area. read more
