Hats is a fun take on Creole food. The food is normally fresh and delicious while I wish they had some more traditional Creole dishes. Service is normally friendly and quick. Out running some errands and decided to hit up Yats Grandview. I THOUGHT it was Abby working BUT it was actually Kat working today, she has been working there 6-7 years. I ordered a half Chicken Maque Choux and half Spinach and Mushroom Etouffee. OMG!!! The Chicken Maque Choux has some nice tender chicken and corn with a smooth creamy sauce. It's to die for. The other half was a creamy vegetarian roux based sauce with mushrooms and spinach blended with green curry and a blend of other spices. The sauces and the seasoning helped to flavor the dishes as they weren't that flavorful themselves. The portions were large as well! I was pretty full by the end. Overall, it's not authentic. But they are New Orleans-inspired, so it's their own take on the food you can get down there. It's not bad for what you're getting. But just know it won't taste like what you've eaten down in NOLA. They all have amazing flavor and if you like heat get some of the hot sauces to add to spice it up even more. The bread that comes with the entrees is absolutely UNREAL. Perfectly crispy on the outside, and buttery and soft on the inside. The bread is best fresh, so when I order Yats to go I always pop the bread in the oven or air fryer for a little to crisp it up again. The service is always really fast and friendly. This is a great place to pop in when you need a quick meal on lunch break or dinner time. While both were pretty good and had a decent texture, I felt that they lacked a depth of flavor I was hoping to taste. I couldn't taste much spice in either dish as well. Maybe this is what it's supposed to taste like, but personally I was not a fan. Additionally, I thought I could have used more rice. The amount of rice I got was not nearly enough to go with all the sauce I got. My ideal rice/sauce ratio is pretty high though, so that may be my own preference. Shawn got immediately got on the defense and said "we are a Midwest version of NOLA. At that moment his statement let him off the hook. Why? Because when you walk into a NOLA spot you don't here red hot chilli peppers. You here zydeco . With that said and taking into account it's not true NOLA it's a Midwest version they get 4 stars instead of 5. Let's get to the food. I ordered everything on the menu. Yes everything. The highlight was drunken chicken and marque Choux chicken you heard. These Midwest one pot dishes are full of Flav. The other dishes were good also. Now the portions are Midwest style small but it has very good Flav. They also need to give more rice but again it's the Midwest version. I actually took another star off because I hate eating off of paper plates and plastic ware but I gave the star back because the one pot dishes melted great. went here for lunch with a coworker and was super happy with everything. we walked in and were immediately greeted with a warm welcome. they had a few table to sit inside but it seems like there was a lot of to go orders also. i asked the worker the least spiciest main entrees and found out you can get free samples of any of them! i ended up going with the chili cheese etoufee w crawfish and it was AMAZING. 10/10 recommend and would get everytime i came here. my coworker got the gumbo w chicken and sausage and ranked it an 8.7/10. everything is served with rice and bread and we both got extra bread (so tasty and had amazing flavor 10/10). we ended with the plain beignets and they were so tasty. it tasted like a large dount hole covered in powdered sugar but less fried and more doughy. it was a super pillowy soft texture. however, i have had the ones at cafe de la monde in nola and they were different than them. overall 9/10 experience and will definitely come back if ever in the area again! read more

I love Yats, so this review may be a bit biased. It's truly food for the soul that just warms your whole body. Their Gumbo is fantastic and the different kinds of garlic hot sauces they add just tack on a whole new set of flavors to the already existing palate you have when eating. All have a great amount of space and complex flavor like smokey sausage in the gumbo or creamy cheesy/peppers in the etouffe. It didn't ask to spice any of them up, but it seems like they can accommodate. Also lots of vegetarian and vegan options. All come on a bed of rice with a side of bread. I won't go into the bread as other reviewers have done so, but I will say for carryout, it travels well wrapped in foil. Overall it's a deal for delishious. I always take the trip to Yats for ounce when I'm back home visiting family. I suggest the "Pick 2" with extra bread. Always get extra bread. I don't know what they put in it but it's amazing AND reheats well the next day for any leftovers. My partner ordered drunken chicken and red beans and rice with smoke sausage. The dishes were seasoned nicely and really hit the spot. I had to add a little hot sauce because I really enjoy spicy food, but it was kind of already spicy at the baseline level. I got to taste some of my partner's orders and I really liked how soft and tender the chicken was. The flavors came out really well. As for the bread, it was nice and crispy. I am so surprised that I've not written a review for this business. This is one of my favorite local restaurants to go to in Grandview heights. It's semi quaint and always super duper clean. It's fresh number one and number two, I don't know what the hell they put on it but I normally get like 5 pieces of it. I normally get the drunken chicken dish. The flavors are wonderful. It has a subtle sweetness to it and a tad bit of heat. This rice is always cooked to perfection. I've never had it under or over done. My side dish usually consist of the red beans, these bad boys are always on point and bring this afformentioned dish together quite well. Most of the time when I go in, I get to interact with the owner. He's really down to earth and has shared his story of how he got started with the business which made the meal even taste better.
