I've had them on my list a while but am not often in this area of town. I came for a late lunch and it was a bit busy. A few folks in line and folks dining in. I wasn't sure what to expect since I assumed the BYO bowls were Americanized. But I saw other Africans in line for the food. The menu seemed more like pan-West African. I got the jollof, veg, corn, spicy chicken, and the spicy Basabaas sauce. Delicious! And tasted pretty authentic to west African seasoning. The sauce was spicy but probably not the spiciest thing I've had. You get a good amount of food for the price. It lasted me two meals! I also tried the hibiscus juice and sambus. Delicious! Can't wait to come back! Next time I'll ask for the Basabaas sauce on top so that I get more of it. I asked for it on the side and kinda wanted more.
This was my first time trying African food and I definitely enjoyed the experience. I ordered the lamb shank with corn, beans, plantains, and fufu w/ peanut soup. My mom was given PeriPeri chicken w/ corn,mixed veggies, and fufu w/ peanut soup. The protein part of the order wasn't correct, but she didn't want to go back and correct the cashier. She thought the food was good. My lamb shank was so tender and was falling off the bone. The seasoning/sauce on the shank was very delicious. The fufu and peanut soup tasted great, especially when you add their side sauce to it. For the amount of food you get, I think it's definitely worth the price. I felt very full by the end of it, even though I spent the whole day without eating up until that point. Upon walking in, we noticed the place was very clean and the staff were accommodating. If I'm in town, I'll definitely reorder that lamb shank.
Cane here as part of Columbus's restaurant week and they had a great deal where you get a bowl, dessert, and samosa. Its a casual eatery set up like an African Chipotle. When we got there, it was a bit of an odd time so they didn't have a lot of the food options. Staff was rather short but I'm sure restaurant week upped the number of guests. They were still pleasant and let us know some things are going to be a wait. Foodwise, I found it all very delicious. I got to try the mango lassi, samosa, and a spicy chicken bowl. I'd say it was decently spicy so probably very spicy for a non-spice chaser. Everything was very flavorful and tasted fresh and I just kept wanting to eat more!
We went to Afra Grill to try their restaurant week special on a rainy Saturday. It felt a little unorganized and maybe the location on Morse had been inundated with other restaurant week goers. A couple of the proteins advertised were not available (lamb and goat). We also had to wait a bit for a couple of items that were part of the special (the sambusa because they were out and a mango lassi) In that sense, service wasn't quite 5 stars, but the staff was kind and brought the remainder of our order to our table. The food was fantastic in my book. Both my partners bowl and my bowl were filled with flavor. I highly recommend the steak and, if you can handle some heat, try the spicy green sauce and spicy rice. Everything felt home-cooked and comforting. Overall, Afra Grill was just what we needed on a rainy, cold day. We'll definitely be back to try their lamb and goat. P.s. they had a drive thru. We didn't take advantage but check it out if you're in the area on a lunch hour or don't have a ton of time to dine in.
First time at Afra Grill but it won't be the last. As others have said, this is a Chipotle-style restaurant where you build your meal. The experience was excellent. The person behind the counter patiently explained how the process worked, allowing us to choose our base, protein and sides. We both had the jollof rice, but chose the Afra chicken and the Habo steak so we could try each other's meals. The plantains (maduros) were excellent as were the other sides. The food has some of the depth of Indian food but with different accents. Delicious. We chose to eat in but you can order out as well. The restaurant is immaculately clean and nicely decorated. Even the music was played at a reasonable volume. Definitely recommend and will return.
*extremely late post* Very nice restaurant. Not too big but rather quite intimate to a degree. I had the goat and I can still kind of taste it til this day lol. My lady thought her jerk chicken was a tad bit too spicy but I thought hers was good as well. Staff was friendly. Helped us figure out what to order since it was our first time there. I will definitely be back here. Keep up the good work!
Si, this was my first time trying to this and I'm highly disappointed. Highly. I paid $25 and the flavor of the food was not worth that. It's very beautiful inside. I enjoyed playing the drums with my kids. It's very nice and kept up clean restaurant. The energy in there is not so hot. You can tell that the man does not even want to be there. He was not friendly he seemed more irritated that I walked into the restaurant. I would not go eat there again. But everybody taste flavor is not the same. But I wouldn't want to represent my country with these dishes. I've tried many African Restaurant and I was always pleased but this one. I couldn't even finish the food because there's a lot of saltiness to the food. You can tell that food is not made with love and passion. The spicy rice was okay. The only good thing about my order was the salad & fufu.
First time visiting this place. Inside of this place is nice and clean when we went. The person who took our order was very sweet and took his time to explain the menu to us. I ordered the jerk chicken and my husband ordered the chicken Afra and the habo steak. I did not care of the jerk chicken at all. It seemed like it was sitting there for days, dry and lacked flavored. However, the chicken afra was seasoned well and tasted great. I would go back there again just to try out other options.
Afra grill is the most authentic African food that I have had. The service was so great and quick. It was super easy to order your plate of food. The restaurant was very clean and neat as well. Can't wait to try out another plate !
YES! After a long flight two nights before, Agra Grill was the perfect experience to help bring us back to life. Huge shout out to Markie for taking the time to walk us through the menu and create dishes we'd be sure to love. And we indeed enjoyed our meals. Base: half Jollof spicy rice half spring mix Protein: chicken suqaar Topping: potatoes and veggies Cold toppings: fresh veggie salsa, corn, and plantains Sauce: spicy Afra-fantastic on the side So flavorful. So fresh. And so delicious. Huge portions for just $11/each our the door. Highly recommended for a unique, hearty, and satisfying meal. As a bonus, the restaurant is new and kept very clean!
First time here, with other Yelp ladies. It was actually our second choice since a place around the corner on Karl didn't appear to be opening at noted time. The big menu is on the wall and you choose (Sababa-style) your base, protein, hot topping, cold topping, and sauce. I had the Bariis (Somali rice), with Chicken Afra as my entree. It was fantastic, topped with Afra Fantastic Sauce (true to its name). For Hot, I chose the Suugo (potato sauce), with the veggie mix. They were both pretty good. For Cold, I had the corn, plantains, and Adriyad (noodles). When I checked out, I added a veggie Sambus (like a Samosa) and a Mango Lassi. They were both amazing. The dining room is spacious, and very clean. Parking available as well. This grill deserves another visit, and I recommend!
I give this place 3.5 stars. The food was good. I ordered the Agra rice and chicken. It tasted like the chicken over rice with the white sauce that I always buy in NYC from the Halal and Bodega spots. But they don't pack your container at all like other places. I guess it could be inflation. Have to save money I guess but for $14.99 you fill up the container. I didn't like how I didn't get a logo bag just a plain one. The drinks are pretty delicious no complaints there. The restaurant itself nice . Atmosphere nice. Staff was okay one guy gave me a compliment and the other was okay. If I ever come back here I am trying something different.
We got an order to go to break our fast with. This time we got the lamb shank meal, Afra chicken, mango lemonade, and chicken sambusa. Everything was packed really nicely and the portions are big. The lamb shank was fall off the bone and really well spiced. Everything we got was actually really nice in flavors. I got jollof rice with the meat and it was spicy but not overpowering. The plantains were really good and the salad was fresh. I love everything mango, so the mango lemonade was refreshing. My son enjoyed the chicken sambusa and my husband enjoyed the Afra chicken meal. I gave my son ketchup as a dip for the sambusa because although their sauces are very good, they are much too spicy for him. The Afra spicy sauce was good and my husband said it elevated his chicken meal. They also included crepes with our meal. I was not aware that they come with the meal or if they just gave us these as an extra. The crepes were huge though and delicious. They had the perfect amount of sweetness to them. We were late in picking up our meal, so appreciated the staff for holding it for us. The food was fairly warm even after the delay. We will definitely be back. read more

So happy to return to this wonderfully delicious spot in my old "stomping ground" on Morse Rd. First checked them out over in Easton, and I've been wanting to return ever since!! So many tempting choices offered, it's tough to decide. The minute you walk in the door, the smell of all the wonderful, tempting options will let you know you're getting the "real deal." You can create your own bowl, choosing the protein (chicken, goat, fish...) and the toppings and sauces to your taste. Speaking of taste, the woman at the counter very helpfully gave me a taste sample of several different options. Both the regular and spicy chicken were super flavorful, and I've tried Somali goat meat before (very flavorful!) but trying to keep it light(er) since I had a plane to catch in a few hours, I got a veg. bowl, with a sampling of both types of rice and (woops!!) and spaghetti add on (carb-o-licious!!). Should have added on the salad, that might have made a bit more sense! Anywhooooooo, my bowl was DELICIOUUS, as was the veg. sambus I added on, and super reasonably priced for the quantity (and deliciousness!!) of food I was served. Relaxed, casual atmosphere with wonderful color all over the walls. Tons of places to sit. I ordered takeout from here, and it was ready when I picked up. This location also has a drive-thru window. I ordered a beef sambus which was a perfectly golden pastry with beef, peppers, and spices inside. Not spicy but very flavorful. I also ordered the goat with bariis rice, salad, and plantains. Medium spicy sauce on the side was a great addition. Tons of flavor. I would come back here. read more

Ya'll this place, THIS PLACE has the incomparable flavor status from here to East Africa! Well that's where the flavors come from! The cumin, the fenugreek and so many spices; this place is the spot for SPICY TASTY food. Afra Grill is clean and bright establishment, the workers are sweet and the food smells even sweeter! They have everything socially distanced and limited dine-in! Sanitizer is everywhere! Their bathrooms are really clean and they feature luxurious additions on them as well. Go see for yourself! I got the Build-Your-Own Meal Bowl with Jollof Rice, Chicken Suqaar, Suugo, Spring Mix Veggies and Afra Fantastic Sauce (they have a spicy one as well). I got home and almost cried it was so good! They cooking the food on site! ON SITEEEEE! Go check them out! Support them! I MEAN SUPPORT! These flavors are 10 stars! But I could only give 5! read more

Had Afra door dashed to us on Sunday. It was delicious as always. I had the Salmon with Afra rice, plantains, glass noodles and picketed red onions. Hubby had a bowl with steak and beans. I only wish we'd gone here sooner and more often, because everything was so delicious! Massive portions, perfectly seasoned and flavorful items and sauces, and immaculate dining area and bathrooms. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to try a lot of different foods from various regions of Africa, but also for anyone who wants to customize their meal to their preferences. Fast casual so great for pickup as well as dining in, and they even have a drive thru for extra convenience. Can't wait to try more options next time! read more

Well Columbus, I saw this restaurant while enroute from the gym one morning and insured myself that I must try it one day, and today is that day. Well positioned on busy Morse road is Afragrill. We arrived in good time to enjoy in some of their splendid cuisine. First, the atmosphere. A classy adorned restaurant, complete with plenty of space and careful cleansing and sanitation for customers safety. A great spot for a Friday or Saturday night dinner before other nights activities. I indulged in the jollop rice for a base with bomb chicken, their spicy hot fare, which was absolutely delicious. I had sides of the corn, red onions and plantains, accented with a sambusa beef patty, which was spicy and outstanding some bashaal juice (pineapple, mango and coconut juice) which was spectacular to a fruit juice lover like me. My friend had the pili-pili chicken, which had some spicy, bit no where near the fire of the bomb chicken, combined with corn, plantains and kachumbari (fresh salad). Also tried was a Nafako, a boiled egg, wrapped in mashed potato, then fried with a light crunchy crust on the outside, which I heard was wonderful. All in all, this experience was outstanding and a definitely a return to spot. Significant also that they have a drive up window for your convenience. Five star rating AfraGrill. We visited Afra Grill on a weeknight right after work. The restaurant was relatively quiet when we arrived, which allowed us to take our time to review the various menu items on offer. The gentleman behind the counter was very knowledgeable and helpful, and helped explain the different dishes, sauces, and toppings to us. Between the three of us, we ordered various combinations of rice, chicken, beef, and veggies. We also ordered the mango juice and the bashaal juice (a combination of mango, coconut, and pineapple). The chicken Afra and the habo steak were fantastic, as were both the bariis and the jollof rice. The corn, adriyad, and the sweet plantains were also tasty, and complemented the bases and proteins well. The jerk chicken on the other hand was very chewy, and clearly stale. Both the juices were also excellent. All in all, we liked the food, and would recommend this restaurant. read more

I will never have anything negative to say about afragrill! They are always warm and welcome. What I love is the owner always speaks and not just makes small talk but seems like he actually cares about his customer. I know I can be in and out on my lunch break without sacrificing time for quality! I usually spend exactly $14 which does not come with a drink or a fancy side but the amount of food and items I receive is perfect for the price! Always flavorful read more

I'm telling everyone and going back!!! Just happened to be in the area and wanted something quick but different. You can smell the amazing Smoky spices as soon as you walk in. Staff is very nice and helpful. I ordered the Baris Somali style white rice, chicken afra, beans (kidney, green peppers, onion, smoky spices), veggies (carrots, peas, potatoes, onion, spices, salsa (fresh tomato, cucumber, red onion, cilantro), corn with red onion, fried plantains, fantastic sauce (a little sweet), and sambusa veggie (fried hand pie with veggies and spices). Everything was delicious. I only wish the plantains and sambusa were hot. I'm still giving it 5 stars. Next time I'm trying the lamb or goat. read more

I finally got to try this place, and I'm so glad I did! Super clean and bright inside - I freakin love the decor #humanrights! The staff are so pleasant and helpful. I expressed my newness and allergy needs and they were right on top of helping me through my choices. I've been wanting to try this place since I found out about it last month and it was SO GOOD!!!! I'm glad I thought to take a picture before I sat down to eat because it was gone so fast I think I forgot to breath . While listening to the run-down the lady in front of me was getting for her first visit, I consulted the woman standing behind me (who said she'd eaten there several times) about what was good and what I had to try. With her recommendations and the final topping/sides picks that I left up to the very helpful guy preparing my food I just consumed an absolutely delicious meal. Base: half Jollof rice which was slightly spicy but good, and half Bariis/Somali rice which has a hint of cinnamon and cardamom. Protein: I chose the Chicken Afra which is their top pick and for good reason. The tender chuncks of thigh meat and the mint in the sauce, which was topped with the Afra Fantastic sauce which has a slight sweetness to it...yum! Hot Toppings: Suugo which are light curry mashed potatoes and the Red kidney beans but very good. Cold Toppings (picked by employee): Corn (good), Plantains (which I love and they didn't disappoint, even cold), and the Adriyad which were like cold wheat noodles that were a little sweet but had a strong clove flavor and I would definitely get them again. read more

Wow!! Wow!! It's been 8 hours and I'm still wishing I had more. My coworker said we had to try somewhere new for lunch so...challenge accepted :) I am so glad we ended up here today and even my extremely picky friend loved it! She cannot tolerate spice at all and ordered the steak with the white rice (i can't remember the right name) and she loved her food. I got jollof rice with Afra chicken. The spicy fantastic sauce on the side was sooo very good and not terribly spicy. Service was a little strange and awkward today but the food was outstanding so worth a little turbulence in the end.
