Bottom Line: A nice store for discounted furniture, home furnishings and home decor but lots of…read moreoverlap with HomeGoods. Ahh, I love America. An entire, booming industry centered around decorative, dust-collecting stuff you can purchase so that your home looks like it was ripped from the pages of the Pottery Barn catalog and rivals any space on HGTV. And I mean that in the best way possible! Admittedly, I was kinda hoping that the old hh gregg would become a roller skating rink but I won't complain about another spot in Annapolis to shop for discounted homey stuff. HomeSense is owned by the TJX Companies, it started in Canada and it is purportedly nicer than HomeGoods. But even knowing that going in, I wasn't really sure what to expect. For some reason, I was visualizing the super voluminous size of an "At Home" store but HomeSense is pretty normal sized - lots of inventory but not overwhelming. However, I will say that the Annapolis size is considerably larger than the Columbia location. The Patch (an online local news outlet) noted that Cosmopolitan described HomeSense like "HomeGoods on Steriods" but I didn't feel that way. It had more of some things and less, or none, of other things. What surprised me about HomeSense is how much overlap there is with HomeGoods, which is just a few steps away, also located in Annapolis Plaza. Unlike HomeGoods, HomeSense carries more large pieces of furniture, has more rugs, has hard wired chandeliers and does not carry linens except throw pillows. Regarding the rugs, they have a ton of them at this location. If you need a couch, or a set of easy chairs or a grouping of dining chairs, I think there are some really decent finds here. I saw a chadelier that I liked but it was still around $600 so perhaps it is higher end than HomeGoods. Both HomeGoods and HomeSense have home decor, kitchen items, gift wrap and bags, framed art, mirrors and lamps. HomeSense has a "General Store" section that kinda sucked me in but it was really just organizational stuff and cleaning stuff. I think it's weird that the checkout is mid-store rather than near the door. I bought a big piece of art and it felt odd to carry it such a distance before getting to the exit. I must say, I don't think I ever recall seeing the parking lot at Annapolis Plaza so full!

I do try to be understanding and patient with every business I walk into, however, this place is…read morequite an embarrassment to be honest. It's halfway between a grocery store and department store, serving as the only place the families who live nearby without a vehicle need to get all of their groceries, unless they can manage the bus which would add costs and another hour to their trip. This was the 2nd or 3rd time of me going inside. Today I wanted one thing a friend suggested I buy from there since their prices are so low. Yes, they are good prices, but the atmosphere is dreadful, products on the floor and in the aisles, just a simple mess all over the store. Dark lighting provided to add to their special ambience. I could have given all of the above issues a pass, but then going to pay for my item I notice a long line waiting to pay for their things. There was only one self-checkout open and one checkout register open with an employee, but he said he only takes CASH?! That is very odd. There were three groups in front of me and it was going to take too long, so I put my item back and walked out. I'd rather pay 40% more than deal with that again.

This particular activity is offered prior to the store opening and is FREE for toddlers. Classes are about 30 minutes long and they get a surprise (stickers) at the end. The kids get to dive in and use their imagination by building things. On this day we built an animal sanctuary. The kids were able to use the legos to build towers, trees, and the like. Once complete, the staff brought out the lego animals, which the kids loved. The staff were amazing and patient with our little ones. I believe the classes are offered monthly- they fill up quick. I really appreciate immersing my kiddo in different activities where he can learn new things. We will definitely be returning.

I had a clue as to what they wanted, but I obviously did not have it memorized before entering the store. And what I am about to complain about is something outside of their control, cell service. This place was a dead zone for me, so I had to leave several times and walk down the corridor to get service so that I could have a visualization of what I was looking for. With that taken care of, I came back into the store ready to shop. Upon entry you are greeted warmly by the staff near the front door. Each person that entered were greeted and asked if they needed any help. I kind of already knew what I was going to grab, just needed to locate it on the shelves. I grabbed the one and started looking for the other. I wasn't able to see it, but I kept looking. Until I was frustrated enough that I asked one of the employees that were greeting people and she jumped all over it. I showed here what I was looking for and took me to the section that it should have been in. Unfortunately it was not something that was on shelves and she feared that it may have been retired. She did point out a few other packs that were in the same genre, but something I don't think my nephew would be able to handle at his age. She also pointed out the most expensive one and of course it was already a nope on that. I thanked her for her help and continued to browse. I did end up finding something else for him that ran in the same vein, but not exactly what he wanted. It'll do. After all that, I continued to look and for some reason I felt compelled to buy one for myself. It had been ages since I played with Lego, but I understood now that no one can tell me otherwise. Grabbed my item and stood in line. When I reached the register, or maybe I should say the counter, there is no typical register in here, I put my items on the counter and let the employee start to ring me up. I don't usually do this, but I signed up for their rewards program, I figured I might end up here more than I bargained for in the future. What was nice was that they had a promotion going on where if you bought a certain amount you got a free item for the holidays. Bonus, I now had two sets to put together for myself.
