We had an unacceptable experience last weekend. Our party of 6 was squeezed into a table for 4 w/ 2 chairs placed on the end even though there were corner booths available in the corners. Food was good as usual, but when leaving, my wife tripped and fell over one of the end tables (she was not drinking). NO ONE CAME TO HELP OR EVEN ASK IF SHE WAS OK!!! Hello? She was extremely embarrassed and ask that I didn't make a scene even though other patrons AND THE STAFF WERE LAUGHING AT HER!!! She asked me not to contact an attorney even though she sprained her wrist and has bruises on her back and leg. These people should be out of business again!!! read more

I usually go to Mei Hoo for Chinese who I think is decent, reliable and fast but thought I would try a new place, that was a mistake. The delivery took an hour and 15 minutes and I live 10 minutes away. The chicken wings were overlooked and dry, the crab rangoon was undercooked and the duck sauce tasted weird. After suffering through several of the "all taste same" horrible takeout fare that Lawrence, MA provides (I swear, all these restaurants must get their creepy too-dark brown friend rice, their cookie-cutter dried-out crab rangoons, and other generic dishes from the same pre-cooked supplier!), my friend and I decided to try Yang Ming. We were shopping in Salem at all of the convenient chain stores (Target, Bed Bath& Beyond, Pier 1, Home Depot, even a Shaws--swoon, they're all there) and saw the beautiful red and green lights that make this restaurant look magical at night. I wish someone would take a night picture of the establishment-it's really beautiful. In nearby Lawrence, MA, Le Chen's gets rave reviews, and we went there several times because of the reviews, but this place beats them hands-down. The food here is not the standard "all taste same" Chinese fare you find elsewhere. The recipes are original, homemade--which is why I think Yang Ming has gotten some bad reviews: people are expecting a certain generic taste and instead they get something quite unexpected. I personally like the unexpected and was delighted with most of the dishes. To be honest, I didn't like the house Lo Mein. It was too onion-y for my tastes, but it did have a distinct flavor that you don't find in most factory-produced Lo Mein. I loved the unusual spring rolls, the delicious and delicate pork fried rice, and the very unusual sesame chicken, a sweet-sauce dish that usually tastes cloying sweet rather than good, but not at Yang Ming's. It had just the right amount (i.e. not too much) sugar. And it actually had far more than five sesame seeds on it, lol, something that is rare at most Chinese restaurants around here in these penny-pinching times. The chicken in its light red sauce was artistically surrounded by broccoli flowers on a lovely round platter, and the broccoli tasted as if it had been grilled! It was delicious just by itself. My friend also loved the pork fried rice (a favorite of his) and the huge chicken wings appetizer. He said his won ton soup was incredible. We ordered far too much food that night because we didn't expect the portions to be so large. Unlike the unsightly plates in some of the photos, our food came on beautiful platters and our plates had a beautiful minimalist design on their faces. The portions were enormous and very reasonably priced. We had a huge amount of leftovers. The restaurant was spotlessly clean and relatively quiet. Nice, dimly lit ambiance, unlike so many glaringly overlit establishments. Decor at Yeng Ming's was not expensive, but pleasant and soothing to the eyes--done with an artistic touch. We will be returning here, again and again. The dining was fabulous. The tastes here are delightfully different than what you find locally in the Lawrence/Methuen/Andover area. To me, that is refreshing and very good; but it might not be for some others. If you come expecting a certain specific taste rather than being open-minded to new experiences, this might not be the best place for you. read more

We have ordered from Yang Ming a few times and really enjoyed. But have to say tonight was not what we have have become use to. The pork ravioli a were underdone, the salt and pepper chicken was mostly crust and we found very little chicken, the crispy beef (thIs was suppose to be spicy) was bland and tasteless. We ordered a large order of spareribs and only got 5 ribs. Needless to say we will thinking twice before ordering again. We have told numerous people to go there but will not in the future. read more

BEST Chinese place!!!! I've been coming here for years and have never once been disappointed. The service is always good and the owners are always around and interacting with their guests. They're great! Food comes out incredibly fast and the portions are HUGE, especially for the awesome low prices. The lounge is a fun vibe and gets very busy on nights and weekends. Many of their lunch specials are under $10 (the ones I usually get are around $7.95) and it includes the main course, rice, an appetizer sample and your choice of soup. Definitely a great deal for all that food! The variety of sushi and sashimi is also a plus and it is always fresh and beautifully presented. They've expanded and added a whole new room with lots more seating which will accommodate for their busy weekends. Glad to see them doing well! read more

Went there twice. The food is actually pretty good and they have some creative presentations. The quantity and cost is fair. First time we went we had really good service on a quiet night - last night we had truly deplorable service when they were slammed. The food here is great! I was tremendously surprised at the quality when I stopped in because of a referral. Their fried rice isn't the crappy overdone stuff that you'd get at the take out place on the corner. The bone-in spare ribs are crazy good. The sushi also caught me by surprise. My husband and I are diehard sushi fans and THIS is the place to be. When we first started going years ago, the place was empty but word has sure spread! They expanded so there is still no wait (or 5 mins worst case scenario). The rolls are SO fresh with the Snow Mountain Maki un-toppable! We used to live in Boston and this is even our favorite still. Typical casual "hole in the wall" feel, but they recognize me every time I come in. Every one we bring with us loves it just the same. I will admit the Thai Iced Tea is nothing to brag about, but I still order it every time. So my boyfriend and I have gone to Yang Ming for years, solely for their sushi and their food is delicious each time and their customer service is great. Last night for the very first time we decided to order delivery rather than pickup and the delivery driver was very sweet but once he left we noticed our spring rolls we ordered were missing. So I call and explain and by no means was I expecting them to send back their delivery driver for spring rolls but at the very least offer me options as to what they plan to do to resolve this. What I received instead was "are you sure you checked the bag? I asked the chef and she said she knows it's in there." Like what?!?! Why would I make this up? Especially with the cheapest item I ordered! Years of loyalty to Yang Ming and I was questioned this way for at least 3 solid minutes, to then be told that the manager was not on duty and they could not issue me a credit for the spring rolls I never received. But what makes this all that much more frustrating was that she explained she'd credit it off my NEXT ORDER, haha assuming after the eat I was treated I would order there again. How would I even remember, how would they? So in conclusion, Wasabi is closer to my home and has delicious sushi as well as Tomo. So those are now my new go tos. A day later, no credit in my account either. I hope the 4.95 was worth losing two loyal customers over. read more

This was our first visit to Yang Ming. I ordered veggie Pad Thai and hubby had the beef Pad Thai. The meals were delivered promptly and steaming hot. The beef was extremely tender and my dish was spicier than I was used to, but I really enjoyed it. The server was polite and efficient with unprompted water refills. The only negative for me was that the background music was too loud and when coupled with customer chatter it was hard to hear our own conversation. We will definitely return again. read more

Everyone has their go-to Chinese food spot and Yang Ming is mine. The reviews here are mixed but my family and I have never had a problem. When we want Chinese, we always get Yang Ming. Crab rangoons aren't overfilled, pork fried rice is spot on, chicken fingers are never over cooked. They told me it would be 20 min for mr order which I didn't believe but I just went to the bar which was crazy busy with a girl and another guy making drinks as fast as they could and was amazed at the precision and poise they had to handle a full bar with at least 3 deep and take care of the waiters and waitresses for the restaurant patrons also..kudos to the bartenders and bar backs!!! The music was too loud (and they were playing two different styles of music in this small place) and no one knew what to do in order to turn it down. They had to call the manager who came to our table with his hoodie on and his hands in his pockets. Soup came to the table cold and when I asked to have it heated it was an imposition! Then came the cold pu pu platter and gummy rice. Asked for lemon for my rice and the waiter brought me one wedge...WITH HIS HANDS! Asked for additional lemon and he said, "No! that is too much to give you". But he did bring me one more wedge, again, with his hands! Next came the cold pu pu platter complete with hair in it! This place is AMAZING! The food (especially the sushi) was fresh and delicious & there was little waiting time between dishes. The scallion pancakes & crab ragoons were crispy, the General Gaus chicken had the perfect amount of spice and the tuna in the Tuna Rolls practically melted in your mouth. This is a the best Chinese food around. The owners really care about their customers, and try to remember everyone by name which is nice. If you decided to go there you have to try the House Mai tai, it so good and strong. Every time my husband and I are thinking about eating out we end up at Yang Ming. I try to eat something different every time I go and so far so good. The owner's wife is more of a people person and loves to satisfy the customers. She is always trying to find new ways to bring in business and make deals. I specially love when she lets us sample her new drinks. The guy is more to him self and sometimes set in the back on his computer. I enjoy going to Yang Ming so I try to let the waiter know that I am there to relax and have drinks and dinner, so that they won't be down are throats, standing behind us or checking on us. I usually hate that about Chinese restaurant so I let them know before hand. I rather let them know when I am ready to order. read more

I am picky Chinese food eater. I have been to the best and to the not-so-good buffets. But this place surprised me. We tried it randomly and had heard nothing of it. It was surprisingly clean and the decor was not dusty (rare) The food came reasonably fast and looked really fresh. It was fresh and great tasting, and the price gave you a lot of bang for your buck.
