Pork Fried Rice
Gary G.

I was in the neighborhood late one weekday afternoon and decided to give it a try even though reviews have been mixed at best. The common thing among them was that the ownership had changed recently and that it ~may~ have improved. One teriyaki photo at least showed some promise, so why not? OG Appetizer Combo #2: Combined samples of four appetizers, with no rice. - Beef Teriyaki: Two sticks of grayish meat. Slightly thick, slightly coated, slightly tender, but dry after a few bites. Not much flavor. A little below average. - Spareribs:  Two ribs had top surfaces with a light but faded red paint and a few tiny bubbles that whispered "reheat," while the cross sections had even more grayish color and screamed reheat. More tender than I would have expected-- it pulled cleanly off the bone-- but not much flavor. Well below average. - Egg Roll: Uncrisp shell, mix of cabbage and celery, with pork fairly strong. It looks like more cabbage than celery, but tasted and felt more like an old scholl celery egg roll. Sawdusty dry, but decent flavor from the pork and seasonings. Average. - Fried Shrimp: A pair of thin, stretched-out shrimp (probably halved) with MUCH more batter than shrimp. More of a deficit than I've come to expect. Could barely feel or taste it. Had one. Didn't even want the other for my leftovers box. Below average. Pork Fried Rice (full order): I went back and forth with my elderly server on which rice to choose to get something fresh, and he recommended ordering PFR but adding bean sprouts, which normally don't come with it. Miraculously, he was right. Pork nuggets a little long in the tooth, but the rice itself was soft, fresh, moist, and tasty. A little salty though, and not soy saltiness. But overall, above average to well above average (for nowadays). I get that those apps might be better if I ventured in later at night, but this is a one-and-done for me until convinced otherwise via photographic evidence. I think New Moon Garden has more upside, and Hawaiian Isle, even with its inconsistency, would be the clear cut choice for the area.

Funny Vibes Comedy Club

The food and drink is delicious. The staff helpful and friendly. The big take away was the amazing comedy club they have in the back. It is called "Funny Vibes Comedy Club" and Ms. Laddy runs a very professional setup and brings in hilarious comedians. They do official shows and a weekly open mic on Thursday as well. As a comedy connoisseur I highly recommend this spot!

How is this for fried rice? Burnt, black, disgusting. I called and they said it must have been a bad batch- you think????

Trash. Poor service, food came out cold. Told "management" and all they said was sorry. Never going back.

While ambiance looks amazing, I've been doing delivery which is excellent using their app. I have a…read more"go to " order of the " healthy steamed " variety . Just love the steamed shrimp or chicken with veggies along with an order of white rice, not included. . Each order has been terrific ; very " clean" fresh with a variety of crispy veg and the proteins of either shrimp or chicken are ..perfection . I request extra shrimp and this quickly morphs into 2 dinners ..plus sharing with my pup The ginger sauce on the side...a revelation ! Looking forward to going, in person at some point. I've had very kind and A+ experiences when online ordering was ..temperamental and calling in an order. Located in an inconspicuous strip mall , there is free parking .

Sit-down joint with booths, tables, barstools, and sushi stools, and a lone bartender…read moresinglehandedly manning all of those on a weekday lunch visit. I chose it because I was in the area and have long noted that it comes up often in regional groups when members ask for Chinese recs. Went with my usual move of a combo and an app. Chicken Wings (appetizer): An order of four connected wings, equivalent to 8 pieces, or closer to 10 if you factor in that they were gigantic. Crispness varied greatly, but tenderness and juiciness prevailed in every piece. Slight marinade presence, but also close to supermarket roasted chicken flavor. Size matters and juiciness matters more, so well above average. General Gau's Chicken (on a combo): Small bite-sized pieces. Sweet, gloppy orange sauce. Mild heat. Minimal crispness. Average; maybe even a little below, but doable. Egg Roll (on the combo): Standard exterior, mostly cabbage interior, with tiny specs of red pork. Not much flavor but good freshness and crunch. Possibly average for those tolerant of cabbage, but below average for the celery-only crowd. Pork Fried Rice (on the combo): Not bad, but not much pork, not much warmth, not much moisture, not much flavor. Not surprisingly, not much better than not quite average. Hot and Sour Soup (with the combo): Thin broth. Some spice, but more vinegar, and some soy. More meaty than mushroomy. Average or a bit below. Duck Sauce: Bears mentioning. Large syrup dispenser filled with a pink blush mixture that's probably blended apple sauce and grenadine. Not a disaster, but certainly not a triumph, especially considering the many recs. There's still plenty to like: lot parking, good value, and an exceptionally friendly bartender whose good cheer might put regulars in a good enough mood to make the food seem better. The wings showed enough potential to try again, maybe with ribs or teriyaki. And enough potential overall to try again, but if I'm picking places in the area, this one wouldn't be first.
