We visited SE in the summer of 2020, and immediately loved it. The grounds are gorgeous, there is plenty of parking, and multiple areas in- and outside the house for guests to explore. If you want a classic New England feel, with a gorgeous backdrop, you'll love the SE. Joanna, the erst-while director of the estate, was very flexible and patient in answering my Qs and ultimately we felt confident about booking the SE for summer of 2021, despite having no idea what the Covid situation would look like in a year, because we trusted we were in good hands. Fast forward about eight or nine months, things started to get more difficult a couple weeks later when we learned that Joanna would be leaving the SE, and that Humara (who had previously been assigned to us as just a day-of coordinator) would be taking over. Humara clearly had much less experience than Joanna, and it was obvious that she was over capacity with basically single-handedly coordinating all the wedding/events at the SE this summer. Her communication was often unprofessional, she had to be reminded of details multiple times, and we got multiple frenetic and confused emails in the month leading up to the wedding. On the day of the wedding, all I can say is that it was a success DESPITE Humara and her team, who seemed totally unprepared and unconcerned with us having a smooth client experience. One example was that Humara had berated one of our child guests about scattering rose petals as part of the procession -- instead of talking to an ADULT, she scolded the child before the ceremony, upsetting her. It was totally unprofessional and we had to apologize to the child and her family afterwards for the way she was treated. I believe the SE is getting turned over to private management later this year, which hopefully will improve the experience for future guests. I would recommend the SE to future couples IF there is better management, as I think the venue has a lot of potential. However, the SE leadership short-changed us (and probably other couples this summer) by putting a single, less-experienced staff member in charge of the entire 2021 wedding calendar at a gorgeous and in-demand venue

When it WAS available, it was cool, and chicken parmesan was undercooked to the extent that I worried that three mouthfuls I did eat would make me sick later on. Although I didn't notice, a member of our group said that there was no warming sterno under the serving trays when he collected his meal. Potatoes were OVERcooked, as was the zucchini, which was also too garlicky. There was only a single serving station while the number of guests probably merited two, which may have been the reason those nearer the end of the line had cold entrees. Please be forewarned about using this venue for a large event.

Their event coordinator and experienced staff helped us to select vendors, choose a menu, plan the ceremony, and choreograph the entire event so that it was unique, romantic, and memorable. On the evening of our wedding, our event coordinator personally attended to our needs, ensuring that every detail happened as planned. We had very specific expectations (with a dozen checklists to prove it!) and she and the staff exceeded every one. The deck and function rooms looked amazing; the food was fantastic; the service was courteous and attentive, but unobtrusive; and, most important, the evening flowed flawlessly, with no intervention from the either of us. We wouldn't be surprised to learn that Salvatore's also had something to do with the postcard-perfect sunset! ;) Months later, our guests continue to gush about the evening, including the food, the staff, and the venue itself. We are so happy that we chose Salvatore's for our wedding. We wouldn't change a thing.

Absolutely not correct, this space is so small, I'd say maybe 50-60 people comfortably. Trying to locate the hall was an issue due to poor signing on the street, the hall is in the back. For a place that quoted 120 people, their parking lot sucks. We had to double/triple park cars to make the space work since there were no lines for parking. Our guests did not have any space to dance and we booked the event for a baby shower. We went in the morning of at 10am to set up, none of the tables and chairs were out yet. They didn't have anything ready for us although saying that it would be ready the night before. The covers for the chairs and tables weren't even ironed. The bathroom smelt of toilet water, no refreshers. We had to ask several times for them to refill the toilet paper and put paper towels in the bathroom. No paper towels were ever put in the bathroom the entire night! Just poor service. Absolutely expensive and outrageous pricing for a function hall that came with close to nothing. She said we would have food tables, not true we had to bring our own. They didn't have a liquor license and did not serve any soft drinks even for the kids, we had to bring everything ourselves which added to our financial burden. Not to mention, we were unexpectedly charged an extra $250 for "security" who did nothing but open and close the door. Horrible experience, I would not book again nor refer to anyone. Expensive as hell with nothing to show for it. Only good thing was that we were able to provide our guests with our own food.

It's Time to jump into The TimeMobile & scour the Earth & take you to places from a different time that you won't believe still exist. We have set the dial to 1875 to the town of Haverhill MA. & Winnekenni Castle. Many people think that you have to jump the pond & visit Jolly Old England & The UK to see a Castle. Not True. America has many castles; unfortunately they are just not being promoted. This trip is less than 1 hour drive outside of Boston. Bring a Picnic basket, a water bottle & some good sneakers for an easy 20 minute nature walking hike. After your hike, head back to your car & pull out the picnic basket for a picnic on the green grass on the banks of the Lake. The inside of the Castle is Closed & is only open for Functions, Weddings & Special Events etc. Don't worry you will still be able to see the outside of the Castle close up, the Castle Grounds & lots of other cool stuff. Park your car at the bottom near the playground in the Parking lot or on the side of the road where the signs allow Parking. There are closer Free Parking lots on the way up but you will miss out on all the Adventure & The Winnekenni Castle Hike. So Park your car & follow the signs on Castle Rd. up to the Castle. There are multiple trails & if you like hiking & are more adventurous you can go for several miles all around the Lake. We're going to do an easy trek - a 20 minute hike up & lots of natural settings to see. You will travel along the dirt trails along the lake shore & up the hill to the Winnekenni Castle. THE HISTORY Winnekenni Park Conservation Area is 700+ acres that overlooks the Kenoza Lake which is Haverhill's primary drinking water source. Dr. James R. Nicola built the Castle between 1873 & 1875. He was inspired by the stone structures & castles he visited in England. This was his former residence that he used as a summer home. It is not a huge Castle but modest in size but beautiful. Speaking of Beautiful, the word Winnekenni is taken from the Algonquin Dialect meaning Very Beautiful. C Willis Damon was the Haverhill architect who designed this Magnificent Castle. In 1875 the city of Haverhill purchased it along with some additional land in later years. Besides nature walking & jogging, you can do bicycling, cross country skiing in the winter months, horse back riding & other activities. Like I said The Castle is open for Private Special Events. There is no tour here. They also have Special Public Events every so often that they open the Castle up & are either reasonably priced or even Free sometimes. Check the website for further details & upcoming events. You can check out my other review about Winnekenni Park also. There are picnic tables & benches here or just put a blanket on the green grass & Chill. There's even a Playground Area with Swings, a Slide etc here for Kids. So have a great time exercising, explore & learn about the great outdoors on your adventure, see a castle & have a fun picnic on the green grass on the outskirts of the lake. And guess what? IT'S ALL FREE! It used to be, you had to have Mega Bucks & be Really Rich to have the Good Life, not anymore. The Game has changed. You've been Upgraded. Now You Can Live Like a King on a Limited Budget!

French inspired drinks and food were fantastic and interesting. The French 75 menu was so interesting-- choose your flavor and your bubbles. I tried two, the classic with rosé was so pretty, and the honey lavender with base level champagne was delicious. The raw oysters were to die for! Perfect little pop of acidity with other flavors delicately added and perfectly balanced. The oysters Rockefeller were also perfectly delicious. The foie gras is not something I would normally eat, but my boyfriend loves that stuff so we went with it. I enjoyed it more than he did. It was not a classic foie gras, it was smoother with a creamier texture and more buttery flavor. Eating it with the fig jam and "light as clouds" toast made it absolutely delicious! I enjoyed every minute and mouthful--would definitely seek this place out again even though I live an hour away! We enjoyed ourselves too much to take pictures!
