China Star II Restaurant - I got shrimp fried rice with about four shrimp in there I need chicken teriyaki's look crazy - Chinese Near Me - Methuen, Massachusetts

Best Chinese in Methuen. Not the best I've ever had, but after 4 years here it's still my go to. I've tried every other Chinese within like 20 minutes and they're honestly terrible, half of the places aren't even edible. China star always answers by the second ring and food is at my house in less than 25 minutes. Sucks they don't have a website or app, but it's bc the real ones know how good it is and don't need an app. read more

I've been coming here for a long time, but this time, the food had a strange smell. When I tried the spring rolls, they tasted stale, like they were cooked in old oil. I couldn't eat the food--it just didn't taste right, and the smell made me feel nauseous. read more

The delivery service is reliable and the food quality is quite good. I have been a loyal customer for over 5 years and I would definitely recommend this place. Their portion sizes are generous and offer good value for the price. Thank you china Star!!!! read more

Called in 4 times because kept being told to wait a second and put on hold and never came back, just poor customer service

I am from China so I may be biased. The owner is from a city about 100km from where I live in Canton, China. About the distance between Concord, NH and Brockton, MA. The food is great. I ate here twice. Broccoli Beef and General Tso's Chicken were what I had. The beef was good. Very fresh and lots of beef. The General Tso's chicken does not have as much compared with other restaurants, but it tastes about right. It is a typical Chinese takeout restaurant. One last caution: Chinese restaurants in North America are not "real" Chinese food, especially if they are fast food restaurants like China Star. It does not matter if the owner or the cook is Chinese or not, the flavor has been Americanized to suit local taste. If you want to taste "real" Chinese food from China, go to Boston's Chinatown and look for restaurants with big round tables, Chinese language menus and big groups of Chinese people eating there. Like China Pearl Restaurant, or Empire Garden Restaurant. read more

Wow I can't believe how disappointed I am with their food today. I don't know if they have a new cook, but the rice is tacky with no flavor and lobster sauce is watery with no flavor. If it's a new cook they need to fire him. There food is usually very good. read more

Dim sum was just so so today. Shrimp Chang Fan skin too thick. Syau Mai too many shrimp per piece. Pork ribs had some kind of strange sauce instead of just steamed. Would not recommend for dim sum today. Had double lobster with lobster Cantonese sauce and Peking duck last week for dinner which were both quite good. Sort of hit or miss at this restaurant. read more

Awful service. Food had multiple hairs in it. When I called to tell them they hung up on me.

My 4 year old will pick this place 10 times out of 10 I would've loved to post a before the massacre photo of the food in all its glory but I had to feed the hungry wolves lol My 1 year old in her high chair and my 4 year old boy had worked up an appetite needless to say they were ready to FEAST! I placed the order at 2:16 on Super Bowl Sunday and 2:46 the food was delivered The kids were ecstatic! With no time left to play around I quickly and swiftly opened up the food and the kids instantly dropped their mouths to the floor as they were now in food heaven. They kids ate and they ate until they physically couldn't eat anymore There was sooo much food before we started so much food that we should've complained but nobody in their right mind would complain about too much food right? lol The combo had chicken fried rice boneless spare ribs crab Rangoon and chicken wings A small order of general chau's chicken came with white rice China star is notorious for its HUGE portions They're not like most places where u get 2-4 apps and a much smaller "combo" box with less rice They give so much rice Like 8 crab Rangoon's about 20 pieces of juicy not full of fat or dry spare ribs and 2 chicken wings And the total delivered was only $24 Look at the amount of left overs we have left in the photo Yes this was after 3 people ate 1 adult male 4 year old boy 1 year old girl I'd like to say I'm proud of how much food my kids were able to put away But we still have enough for mom to have a full meal later with some left over read more

China Star in Methuen is a decent place for Chinese food, which is located next to Kim's Pizza & Subs. I've stopped in here a few times during lunch hours. The place is order at the counter with an open kitchen and a few hard booths for eating in. They also have a glass display case with colorful handmade jewelry and beaded bracelets for sale. The menu offerings include the standard Chinese dishes including Szechuan, Mandarin, Polynesian, and Cantonese cuisines. They offer 20 Luncheon Specials ($6.15-$7.35) served until 3PM and come with free soda and 12 All Day Combinations ($9.50-$9.95-order by letter). See the menu at http://www.chinastarma.com For lunch, I've ordered the Luncheon Special 1 ($6.15 plus tax) Egg Foo Young with pork fried rice and egg roll and can of soda, which is a good amount of filling food for the price. The pork egg foo young here is typical of what I've gotten at other Chinese restaurants, which is smothered in lots of thick brown gravy. The pork fried rice (tan color) is alright which is soft with chunks of roast pork (some fat) and sprouts. The egg roll is crispy with a tasty cabbage & pork filling and not too greasy. The service is prompt and I've received my meal to go in under 10 minutes after ordering. On my last visit, the only can soda choice they had was Sunkist (it was free!!!). read more

This is my families go to. We tried other places we liked but owners changed. This place is consistently great. We order New Years Eve or a Sunday its equally as delicious. Its fresh and they are so friendly. Delivered fast or pick it up. Great place. Highly recommend read more

This place has the best egg rolls I have ever had in my life. Something about the small location with the more than friendly staff makes me come back more and more. even though I am on a diet and cannot get the "Platter P5" anymore, which for less than $15 get you enough for two full grown adults or 4 small children willing to split the egg rolls, I will still on a sunday get their fried rice and split it with my wife. Always leave a tip cause this is locally owned by a family still in the area and they employ the kids across the street! They have been open for 20+ years for a reason! read more

Love their crab rangoons. I've contemplated just getting a big order of those to devour by my lonesome. Also love the fried white rice with scallions, onions, and bean sprouts. Pretty decent Chinese food and not super expensive. I've yet to be unsatisfied. read more

OK, I have reviewed this place before. D and I have been content using them for take out as there is nothing else we find in the area worth getting from. It was always good up until tonight. Every restaurant is allowed to make a mistake. Something was made wrong or not to the customer's liking then it should be fixed. We have given them enough business over the years that this shouldn't be an issue. One of the dishes ordered was the ginger chicken. When one thinks of ginger chicken one would assume a nice sauce flavored with a strong ginger flavor. This was not that. This was simply ginger. I mean the whole thing was sliced ginger with scallions and a few shrimp! Look at this picture! http://tinyurl.com/bpz29gc !! There had to be some mistake. Ginger is not a vegetable. Clearly the cook is new. I call up explaining the situation to not one but three people from the order taker to the manager. I wanted the dish exchanged for something else. This should have been a no brainer. Even if this was the standard for the restaurant one would wish repeat business, especially with a loyal customer. The conversation went on for a bit with this lady trying to compare it to beef and broccoli, how I wouldn't be happy if it was just flavored with broccoli. Fair point if ginger was a vegetable. As an executive chef i had no trouble telling her I would be ashamed of myself if I had sent this culinary abortion out to a guest and had the audacity to try and justify it. I told I would drive it back and I want to see her eat it. In the end stubbornness on both sides came to a grinding halt. So as i told her I would put this Yelp up and here it is. I think the photo speaks for itself. I will say that I attempted to eat one of the shrimp in this container. What you see is what remained. All of this drama over $8.95 plus tax. You betcha! Please comment. read more

I've definitely had better. We ordered General Tso Chicken, Sesame Chicken, pork fried rice, pork dumplings and was given a free szechuan chicken since we ordered more than 25$. The dumplings were good. The General Tso might have been better had they included actual spice and it was way too sweet The sesame chicken might as well have been cooked with high fructose corn syrup. It was so sweet I thought It was supposed to be some crazy Chinese chicken dessert. It was gross. The Szechuan chicken was mostly ok. The pork fried rice was bland. One of the only things they got right was making the chicken crispy enough to withstand the sauce. I don't think we'll be going back. read more

China Star is our go-to place for Chinese takeout. (I wish Lee Chen's in Lawrence delivered, but they don't.) Usual orders include some of the following: Spring Rolls, Beef Teriyaki, Chicken Fingers, Peking Ravioli, Pork Fried Rice, Vegetable Lo Mein, General Gau's Chicken, Chicken Chow Mein, Szechuan Spicy Chicken, Yu Hsiang Chicken, and Stir Fried Spicy Style Chicken. Seems like we favor chicken dishes! Everything has always been good, except... the past few times, our Peking Raviolis have been very, very dry... and even hard to cut through. Don't know what happened with these, as they always used to be great. I feel like they're cooking them ahead of time and just reheating, which dries them out. Still, we continue to order from here; and for the most part, are not disappointed. The best part is that they deliver. Costs a few extra dollars for delivery, plus my normal $5 tip. I'd save about $8 if I picked it up myself, but you pay for the convenience. read more

I've honestly never gotten bad food from this China Star and have no idea why there are so many bad reviews. I haven't tried their new sushi and probably won't because...ew. Sushi belongs in a Japanese place, behind a sushi bar, with a sushi chef. Sorry, China Star. read more

Rating especially for their Orange Chicken! I was looking for a similar tasting chicken that is available at the Rockingham Mall food court, but for delivery lol. It just has a delicious sweet flavor to it, with a hint a citrus. Their General Tso Chicken is not spicy at all and is more on the sweet/tangy side. I found it similar tasting to the Sesame Chicken. However, I'm not complaining because I got the order of the General Tso Chicken for ONE DOLLAR! I think that's a pretty sweet deal after ordering three large entree. I wasn't particularly fond of their Lo Mein on its own. There isn't much flavor, so make use of that duck sauce. The noodles do seem thicker than other places though, which I didn't mind. Portions are generous, and delivery was timely. PS Why was it so difficult to find a decent Chinese Spot in the 01841 area on Yelp? Lol read more

The food here is disgusting and looks very un appetizing. I ordered chicken and veggies. It's not even what it's supposed to look like. The chicken is old and so was also old. And it had a layer of gravy on it. I've eaten a lot of Chinese food and I've never seen gravy on this dish before. Just gross read more

This place was not bad. The shrimp fried rice was really good, as well as the crab Rangoon and chicken wings. I personally just didn't like the chicken fingers from here. Didn't taste fresh to me.. I just spent 85.00 on food from China star. It was awful. Everything was mushy tough overcooked and tasted old. We called to ask if there was something wrong or they were having any other complaints because the food was not edible. Called to place a delivery takeout order on a Wednesday night. Was told that the order would be delivered in 20 minutes. An HOUR later I began calling to ask where my order was. Was told that it was on the way. Another 15 minutes goes by and still no order. Was told that they called the driver and that he was on his way. A total of FOUR follow up calls later, the food finally arrived. The driver apologized for being late. I asked him if my food was now cold. He replied, "No, hot, hot." LIE!!! Food was cold and every item had to be microwave heated. Called again to complain and was simply told, "Sorry." I told them that I was sorry too that I would never order from them again and would advise others not to as well! Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs. read more

Only out of desperation did I to order from China star. Never ever again! Beef teriyaki was like chewing on beef jerky, crab rangoon all I can taste with oil, the general Tsao chicken had no flavor, and the Mo goo gai pan chicken was nowhere near soft it was hard to chew. Need i say more? seriously it was terrible food. read more

They've done a renovation, and with that improved the menu. Here's the thing. For SOME items - the food is made to order. OTHER items, they make in bulk early in the day and re-heat as they go. You can definitely tell the difference. I'm hoping that they'll veer more towards freshly made as time goes on - it really makes a difference. The new staff has a GREAT attitude. read more

I ordered food from here one night to find out that when I got home I had the complete wrong order.. I called the restaurant and spoke to the owner, a lil Chinese lady which kindly told me she would credit my order next time I ordered.. so far so goo right? WRONG! Couple of weeks later I called to place an order and they said that they had to recollection of ever giving me a credit! Are you kidding me! Spanish girl on the phone was very rude telling me that theirs nothing I can do for you sir.. I asked to speak to the manager and she says that the manager would tell me the same thing.. these people are a bunch of scam artists! Crooks! Good food at great prices. Always consistent! I've been going here fir years for quality and they also deliver.

Very disappointed in the quality lately. We got a side of crab rangoon, and I don't think there was 1/4 of a teaspoon of filling in them. Maybe they have a new cook, but it was a total waste of money. The pork dumplings and scallion pancakes were just okay. The rice, however, was very good. Time to try a new place. We keep hearing about Le Chen on 114. Not as close to home, but probably worth the trip. read more
