First time here for dim sum for lunch on a Saturday. This place makes the most delicious wonton soup and the Volcano rolls. For dessert definitely try there ice cream section. Very fresh and creamy Ice cream yum. It quite hidden as it located in a Travelodge, at first I thought this was going to be small but this venue is really large in size. The food selection is great and you have many choices. All the food tasted fresh with lots of flavour. The place is very clean and they have the softest toilet paper lol. Probably one of the worst "authentic Chinese" restaurants I've ever eaten at in my life. Out of the twelve people we had, over half of us contracted some sort of food poisoning/stomach flu, ( vomiting, diarrhea) one was even hospitalized. Health and safety inspections need to be redone here because not only is the "washed dishes" dirty with dried food on countless plates, obviously some cleanliness protocols were not followed in preparation of the food. the food itself is atrocious, coming from a Chinese person this is also the least authentic it gets. AVOID at all costs. There are significantly better buffets and Chinese restaurants around town, if not better, at least you won't get sick. read more

I've been there 3 times within the last 4 months, a friday evening with coworkers, the food was hot and lots to choose from. The 2nd time with a party of 12 for a birthday, the place was pretty packed the robot had a hard time getting to our table for the birthday song. The food again was very good, lots of choices. Only drawback was the service, none of us ordered drinks due to the fact we knew you would be waiting forever. The plates were removed reasonably well. However when it came to paying they needed id's from the birthday person and all seniors. Then the bill had the 15% gratuity and the server demanded another 15% tip and kept taking back the machine when I cancelled it as I already paid the tip, finally ended up giving the tip. 3rd time again food was good, but table service plate pickup very bad, needed table for 5, got a booth for 4 and one person had a chair in the aisle. Plate pickup was poor, and we were next to the busing bin, so we put our own plates into the dirty dish bins. Again the bill, same issue, server who never served us anything demanded a 15% tip, and take the machine out of my hand and added the tip then gave to me to swipe my card. This demanding of a tip when service is poor and you don't show up to the table until you see we are nearly ready to leave, and then demanding a tip is not the best impression ... if it wasn't for the great food, I would probably drop this restaurant. read more

Don't judge a book by its cover...The building is kind of off-putting once you arrive, as it is an older looking building, but don't be fooled! There is a crazy amount of food here!! It's usually a bad sign when buffets have heaping amounts of food since the quality almost always goes down when the amount of food is high. Everything I had was delicious! The price is super cheap for dinner buffet which is pretty rare these days. Its a chinese-food buffet with some sushi options, dim sum, as well as salads and assorted fruit. I don't remember how many times I went back to get a new plate but the sesame chicken here is the BOMB. The sushi quality is pretty on-par with other AYCE sushi bars. After dinner, there is a whole row of ice cream thats available for dessert, as well as some chinese congee and dimsum dessert options available as well! Forgetting the distance, I'd definitely make the drive all the way to the Northside from the deep south just to go here. The servers are pretty nice, although a little hard to get water refills. If you know me at all you know that I don't like buffets. I don't like how full I get, the quality of food, and the trough like feeling. Yang Ming deals with at least two of the issues by keeping their chafing dishes small and refilling often with well made food. We went for a dinner buffet because they have a promotion that if it's your birthday month you eat for free with a minimum of 6 guests total. So you need 5 paying friends or in my case my girlfriend's whole family. We made a reservation for 5:30 because I'd prefer eating when it's not as busy. This was a good decision because it got slammed around 6:30pm. It's a big restaurant and almost all the seats were full. There was a good selection of food options. Mainly Chinese cuisine with some Western and Japanese sushi thrown in. We didn't have enough any sushi because we didn't know how it worked. We think the sushi chef cuts to order but we will need to try it next time. I had a Peking duck wrap/taco/Bao thing which was tasty and unique! The prime rib was cooked to a nice medium but it was sitting in au jus which wasn't appealing for me. Of course it wasn't the most marbled and tender rib loin but neither is the keg. I tried a lot of variety and went back 3-4 times. The steamed cake was a nice dessert and I didn't get any ice cream because I wasn't a fan of the self serve with kids leaning over the buckets. They above a full bar and the service for drinks and clearing plates was adequately efficient. read more

Very impressed with the quality and variety of food available. We went for a weekday lunch, which means it had the "least best" compared to evenings or weekends, and still it was a dazzling array. I've never been to a Chinese buffet with this many options which also included Western dishes, sushi, dim sum, lots of fresh fruit and a ton of desserts (as usual with buffets, nothing in that last category appealed to me, but the kids loved it, especially many choices of ice cream). My favourite was the salt and pepper calamari, but nothing I took was displeasing, and i just wish I hadn't gotten full so quickly! I am obsessed with buffets. That's important information. I know that buffet quality can be lacking simply for the fact that they are preparing food for people and hoping they eat it before it goes bad. At Yang Ming, I am yet to encounter this issue. They are bringing out new trays of food fairly consistently. They have a huge selection that makes it easy to bring even the pickiest of eaters. Chinese foods, dim sum, salads, breads, desserts, and Canadian fare. My two favourite parts of Yang Ming are the freshly made sushi! And ice cream!!! Sushi is made as it is taken, there is no sushi sitting out all day. It's the one buffet I will actually eat sushi. The ice cream is not soft serve, but a wide variety of scoopable. There are enough scoops and they are stored in a warm water bath so it makes the scooping easier. Last note: don't get greedy and take what you cannot eat. They will charge you extra. I don't know how much, but I hope to never find out. read more

abhorrent service. a friend went here last night and came back with borderline horror stories for a restaurant. when their table asked for water, the waiter took their glasses and never came back. half of the waitstaff aren't even human. and when they went to leave, the lady collecting their bills refused to let my friend pay until they left a tip. there was an option to not tip, but she wouldn't let them continue the payment until they did. is that even legal? they don't inform you of the mandatory tipping either. the excuse was that "the food is good and requires it," but why should anyone tip bad service because the food was alright? ridiculous read more

My family and I tried Yang Ming on Sunday for adternoon lunch. If you're not a buffet person, you will not enjoy this at all. Also, the area is in a less than desirable area. You have been warned! I appreciate good buffet, especially Chinese buffet at a decent price. Yang Ming definitely has a huge variety of food. With 6 rows and another separate dim sum and western area, you definitely get the most out of your meal. As with any buffet, there are definitely items that I didn't prefer but there was enough variety that I had plenty of favorite items to go back to. I enjoyed a lot of the Chinese meat, especially the deep fried chicken wings! The western desserts were not my favourite but the ice cream and coconut cocktail buns wer3 winners. The Chinese food is very good, though it can pretty greasy though this very typical for Canadian-Chinese food. My favorites were the sticky rice and the sesame chicken. As for the sushi, it's decent for a buffet, but probably isn't worth going there just for that. It's pretty plain, and doesn't have as much filling as most other places. They also have tempura veggies, which I also liked, though the coating on some pieces was pretty uneven. The best part of the buffet is how fresh everything is. They really do an excellent job of refilling items and keeping track as pretty much every time I went to the buffet line, there was a staff member checking or refilling the food. Was pleasantly surprised. The location is not the greatest but once you step inside this buffets is beautiful! So many options from a fresh sushi station to dim sum station to tradition Chinese and Korean options. This hands down is the best Chinese buffet in Edmonton. So many different flavours... not bland at all. The staff is very attentive and they sure make sure nothing run low. My family and I love dim sum and found the dim sum options way more flavourful here then our usual dim sum restaurant. The price is beyond reasonable. Definitely worth the drive. We went on a Monday afternoon and heard that one the weekend they have way more food options which blows my mind as there were so many options. Wow...very impressed. Won't lie when my parents suggested we try here for brunch I was skeptical, as with any buffet, especially being located so far from me in the Beverly area. First impression is that it is very big and clean. They have everything from dim sum items, western Chinese and of course usual buffet fares like fries and fried chicken etc. First thing had to try was the pork dumplings and shrimp dumplings that I usually get at dim sum and they measure up very well. Second they have people constantly stand watching to see what needs to be filled up, kind of cool with them on a mic announcing it to the kitchen. And always a good sign when there are lots of Asian families here.....my way of gouging how the Chinese food may be haha. New buffet maybe less than 6 months best kept secret so far. Brunch time 11am to 3pm is so reasonable 14.99 for seniors 60+ and 16.99 everyone else over 100 items. What a good deal just for the dim sum and sushi items alone which I just love. If they're out of an item just ask and they will refill fresh. They lost one star for their dry pastries but ice cream is great with it. Not the greatest neighborhood but inside restaurant its been totally renovated. Friendly staff but I'm pretty friendly so they respond back they speak English but off course not the best they try all Chinese staff so far I've gone there a number of times now but just for lunch, they know me by sight. read more

I would highly recommend this place. The prices of the buffet weren't the best, but were fairly reasonable based on the fact that the quality of the food were exceptional. You usually see quantity over quality at a buffet restaurant, but not with Yang Ming. They have a huge selection of food, with a salad bar, dim sum, sushi, main, and dessert section.
