I wasn't so sure what to make of all the hype this place has been getting. I've heard of how amazing this place is, but never had the chance to stop in until this morning. And I'm still not sure about of all of the hype... My first foray turned out to be a decent experience. I had the Mexican Omelette, which turned out to be tasty, but could pass as a burrito from Chipotle. Misnomer aside, it's got the scrambled egg, chorizo, guac, cheese, & black beans stuffed inside a grilled tortilla, served with a side of grilled potatoes. If anything stood out, it would have been the chorizo and guac fusing together with scrambled eggs to create some tasty, flavorful bites. Potatoes were just okay. Overall it was a bit better than average, but not amazing, or even great for that matter. I was served quickly, maybe almost too quickly, as I was surprised at how fast it took them to whip up my dish. I was expected a nice hot breakfast, but instead came out kind of luke warm. As a Mexican food lover, finding Yahaira's was a dream. It is the best cuisine of the many establishments that we have eaten at throughout the world. It is rare for us to look at a menu and want to order everything on it. The weekend breakfast quesadilla was outstanding and the presentation was equally fabulous. The shrimp wrap was filled with large grilled pieces and was divine. Although we were quite filled, we had to try the homemade Flan! Wow, the best ever and a large portion that we shared. The best recommendation came from a local who saw us viewing the menu board and told us it was the best restaurant in Pasadena. I've been coming here for months with the little girl I work with who has special needs. The servers here (Ricardo in particular!) are so amazingly wonderful with my special girl. They always take them time to say hi to her and give her a high five. They are so kind and wonderful!! Ok, but the food. The food is soooooo delicious!!! Of course my girl friends and I came here for lunch...primarily because we were passing through the area and I trusted my handy dandy phone and yelp. my friend's coworker highly recommended this place for a Sunday brunch, and we took the chance to give it try. I have to say it was definitely a great place to eat legit Mexican brunch and a perfect place to chit chat at our outdoor table. We came here around noon for brunch, so the waiter gave us both the breakfast and lunch menus, except omelets, I didn't see anything special about their brunch. However the lunch menu was pretty amazing, and everything on it sounded delicious. The waiter shared today's special with us, and we ended up changing our order to get today's special which was enchilada with butter squash. I really enjoyed the enchilada, and was pretty full after that dish, and definitely ordered way too much food for two of us. I took home half of the fish burrito, and it stilled tasted pretty good after heating it up for late afternoon snack. I would recommend getting guac because the guac is very fresh and comes in big chunks. The restaurant is located at a super cute Spanish looking building with a small alley way to some shops. Unfortunate the shops were closed on Sunday, so we just set there and enjoyed a warm day in April. I came across this gem, unexpectedly, through the American Airlines dining network program. It's located in an adorable little plaza by the Playhouse District of Pasadena. Any of their items with shrimp in it are a thumbs-up. I also tried some of their meat options in taco format, including the salmon and flounder. Both of these were good, but the stand-out and memorable one was the shrimp taco. The shrimp was plump and flavorful. I came here once for dine-in and once for take-out, and both times was helped by the same male server. He is also kind of memorable because he is always very curt, but not quite rude. I found it kind of refreshing, but my husband said he felt uncomfortable asking for anything. This restaurant, at the time of this review, also participates in Yelp's Eat24 system, so it can definitely help trim your bill if you order take-out with one of Eat24's $2-Off-$10 weekend coupons. read more

Stopped by here for a quick bite before heading over to the Laemmle to watch a movie. We were going to go to El Portal, but this drew our interest first, and we found out later that they are owned by the same people. It's a small, cozy establishment with a nice ambiance. They had a live musician playing some classical guitar. Since it was just a snack, we ordered the Tapas /Montaditos starter and a steak adobado quesadilla. The tapas plate included an eggplant with tomato and brie cheese over toasted bread with balsamic vinegar and some shredded pork and egg over toast. There was also a small side salad. I really enjoyed this dish as the eggplant was cooked to a nice tenderness and went amazingly with the brie that was cooked so it was soft and slightly melted. The balsamic was also a nice touch as it blends well with these flavors. Also, the bread was almost like a fresh baguette that was toasted, it was lovely to eat. The shredded pork and egg was also a nice surprise. Usually I don't like things with egg mixed in because the egg tends to overpower the other ingredient, but this was a nice balance and had a good flavor too. As for the quesadilla, the steak was seasoned well and was tender to eat, but this dish didn't wow me. It was very fresh with a nice scoop of fresh guacamole on top and the cheese nicely melted inside, but overall it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I'm curious to try the other items ont he menu for an actual meal, rather than just appetizers. read more

I was taken here and the moment you open the door, the smell of their kitchen is enticing! Not the biggest spot, but very cozy and they have additional patio seating. Breakfast ends at 12, so I wound up ordering the Green Shrimp Burrito from the lunch menu. Spinach tortilla, rice, black beans, fresh guacamole, tomatoes and perfectly seasoned shrimp. I wish I could eat it again today, it was excellent! My sister ordered a cup of (the authentic) Abuelita's Hot Chocolate, amazing. We sat outside on a beautiful day so we really enjoyed our view. I'm giving would want to give them 3.5 stars because their vegetarian menu is quite limited. My friends loved their meals though, so I want to be fair. I ordered the vegetable panini which was good. My only disappointment was they didn't splash it with cilantro and they also don't have sour cream... ??? The lack of sour cream dropped them a half a star. The price for my dish was 11.80 with a drink. Not a bad price for dinner. On that note it feels not like a lunch kinda place. Pretty empty on a Tuesday night at 7:30. After visiting Vroman's Bookstore, we were planning our lunch options when Yahaira's popped up on our Yelp search. I scrolled to the map to find it across the street. We decided on it for convenience as much as its cuisine. It was a Friday about 1pm and we had the entire curbside dining area to ourselves. We were seated and helped immediately. My wife had the steak adobada tortillas. She raved about the flavor from the first bite and shared a morsel with me. The sides were black beans and a cole slaw. She loved the beans. Not a big fan of slaw so she dumped it onto my plate. I had the Mexican Cobb. The flavor of the salad was good but the salad greens (mostly Romaine) was not as crunchy as I prefer. The weather outside started out overcast but we saw blue sky halfway through our lunch. All in all a good breakfast (it's wheelhouse) and lunch spot. This is my go to place for breakfast with my friends. I have never had to wait for a table to open up. It is so nice sitting outside and getting some fresh air. There is a heating lamp if it gets too cold. I was so busy catching up with my friend that I didn't look at the menu. I went with the first thing on the menu - Huevos Yucatan. It was a hard shelled tortilla layered with beans, an over easy egg, and large but thin slice of ham. This masterpiece was covered in an orange sauce and served with heap of home fries on the side. Before I write my review I must say: BEST FRENCH FRIES IN PASADENA. Although you wouldn't think it of a small Mexican cafe, it's true. If you're going for the first time, get an order of fries to share. You won't regret it. They're always just the right texture and perfectly seasoned. (The same seasoning is used for their tortilla chips as well. I would also suggest getting some chips and guacamole as an appetizer!) This place is everything you could want. Personable and friendly staff, great location, bright art pieces on the walls, and AMAZING food. My favorites are the pasilla chiles (only served at dinner), the huevos Yucatan (breakfast) and the chicken green burrito. If you can, get a seat up at the counter so you can watch them prepare the food. I found out about this place about 7 years ago and it now has a special place in my heart! read more

I Like this place so much that i keep going back at least twice a month. There's few Mexican restaurants in Pasadena and this small cafe is the BOMB in the area. Maybe not authentic but the flavor of the food is really good. The portions are good and it's very affordable. I like the freshness of the ingredients and they always have a special for the day. The french fries are soooo good. The habanero sauce gives your plate a different flavor, just drizzle a little bit in your food and your going to thank me later. On Friday nights, they have a gentleman playing the guitar.....so it gets kinda "romantic" in there. Lunch time is always full but try to go after 1pm and you'll have a better experience.
