Got a quote for HVAC system replacement that was not quite transparent and felt relatively high. Update later in the day: After the owner responded to my review, the sales rep called me to ask me to remove the review. He said he would lose his job if I did not remove the review. My answer to the owner and him is - this is not the fault of sales rep. It is company policy to provide transparent quotes or not. On the other side, it is wrong of the company to put pressure on sales rep to have the reviews removed or be fired. The whole experience feels wrong at this point. Second update in the day: The sales person tried to convince me to remove the review by providing me the breakdown while continuing his stand that they don't provide breakdown. While he said it is not fair to rate company just based on the quote, it came down to me as a push to remove the rating and with a tone of frustration instead of trying to understand my point of view. He wanted to provide me breakdown but not implement that as the right practice going forward. This review highlights underlying unfair practice in the HVAC market where companies try to profit from a three to four day job (at the most) in the amount of $2000-$10000, not counting labor and parts. This is supported in a way so an average customer cannot see the price of the equipment and a service provider can quote the equipment at the higher price, on top of the labor and profit, or just by providing a total estimate without any further breakdown. This is similar practice to what mortgage companies implemented before 2007-2008 hiding their fees until government forced them to disclose all their fees. I have received quite a few quotes from vendors who have disclosed their labor and profits, and I really appreciate them for doing that. Sales approach should be more collaborative instead of giving a price estimate and trying to convince customer that it is good price because they do the right thing. Finally, this review was not put in place to ding the rating necessarily, but also with the intent that the vendor understands customer frustration and do the right thing going forward. Our AC started cycling. I called another AC service company here on Yelp but they stated earliest appointment was 2 months out. Panic mode. There is no sleep during the summer without AC in our condo. My wife called Yaeger and they were able to come out the same day end of day. A young man showed up. I explained the situation and asked for all of the above menu option on AC service since I had him and I wanted to make sure everything was taken care of as our AC system has not been serviced 5+ years other then my replacing air filters. Awesome service. I could not get a hold of my usual a/c guy so I called Yeager and they came out the same morning. Fixed my a/c before the second round of triple digit temps arrived. Turns out my refrigerant was low so it was fixed n a flash. Sylvester, the technician, was very knowledgeable and explained step by step what he was doing. I would definitely use them again. At the same time, we had gotten an estimate of well over $1000 from Stephens with the recommendations to replace it with that price of well over $3,000. Found this place via recommendation from a friend. Extremely impressed with the overall service of replacing my existing 40 year old HVAC system. They spoke with me in great detail about the house and my families needs to design a personalized install that was well within margin from other companies quotes. Entire install took 4 days. Super friendly installers. Only downside was the 6 week backlog they had at the time. Requested their work when it was 100 degrees when my system died. They did hook us up with a free portable AC unit while we waited. By the time they got to me it was in the 70's and cool LOL. The service was worth the wait though. My wife called for a quote and the woman who answered (I think Angela) was not clearly explaining the estimate cost (which by the way we found several HVAC specialists who were willing to waive the estimate cost), so we decided to hang up because Angela would not let us talk and kept interrupting us while aggressively selling services. After we hung up, she called right back, which we ignored because we did not want to continue getting berated. Then she texted us! She told US not to be rude when we didn't say anything! Very impressed with Yaeger Services. I just had my attic ducting replaced since we have been in our home for 26 years (better energy efficiency). John was upfront and transparent every step of the way. The pricing estimate for the job was competitive and reasonable. I understand as a business owner myself how it is almost impossible to individually itemize each and every item when you have workers comp, liability insurance, payroll tax, etc. Their work crews arrived on time and covered all of our carpets inside the house, which made my wife very happy. They were courteous and professional. I was looking for a company/contractor that would do quality work and is trustworthy. Let me give you an example of this to illustrate what happened on my job. When their work crew was in my attic replacing and installing the upstairs ducting they found ducting coming from the downstairs air-conditioner which had been smashed/damaged and very little air was coming through. This was not part of my job estimate. However, the work crew had been empowered and told me that they would fix/replace it at no charge because it was the right thing to do for the customer. You don't see that very often. This is how I train my work staff and I really enjoy seeing when other businesses train their workforce to make value-based decisions at the job site to do what is right for the customer. It is very hard to find contractors with integrity in today's environment. I was very happy with Yeager Services' quality of work and their focus to detail. Just completed a complete redo of an older existing installation, project was completed in a timely manner, workers were professional and cleaned up each day, very impressed by the engineering that went in to a redesign of our entire HVAC system, and relocation of furnace into attic, After several days of use I am well pleased with how system functions . Of course our AC failed on the first really hot day this summer. I ruled out the easy stuff and called Yeager Services first thing in the morning, dreading the likelihood that we would have to spend multiple days waiting for an appointment. To our surprise, they made it out the same day. The tech (actually the owner, I believe) and his assistant got right down to it and quickly isolated the failure. Given that the compressor had blown the fuse and wouldn't restart with new one, I was prepared for a big ticket repair. Instead they replaced a single part, suggested adding a little Freon, and got us back up and running. He was quick to note that our system was an odd configuration (previous owner cheaped out when it failed before) and gave insightful recommendations on what could be done to improve it after the summer rush. No up-sell, no scams, no BS. A thoroughly professional experience. When it's hot and the AC isn't working, homeowners are desperate, and there are lots of repair firms willing to take advantage of the situation. Our furnace attic was on a 1999 recall list, and sadly, the owner we purchased the house from did not take advantage of the free replacement. The Premier furnace was responsible for a number of deaths and house fires, and went out of business in the early 2000's. After having done a lot of research and interviewing a handful of heating contractors, we came across Yaeger Services on Angie's List. The moment we met Curt, we felt quite comfortable with him. He took the time to patiently explain how furnaces and AC units work, what needed and did not need replacement, what rebates were available (only one other contractor did), and provided brochures and online articles for us to look over. Curt struck us as very educated, experienced, and with a genuine pride in his work, although he was not the least expensive among all quotes received. However, he did help us pick a system that would work best for our home and within our budget, making best use of any rebate programs available. He also willingly provided multiple quotes for various scenarios and price points. The quotes provided were also the most professional we had seen. It was apparent that Yaeger was up-to-date with technology -- the quote, use of email and SMS text, and providing documentation in PDF form -- made it easy for us to stay in touch. Curt was also fully aware of City Permit procedures, including the requirement to perform HERS testing. Yaeger certainly looked the professional part. Curt also mentioned that all his staff has to undergo training to stay up to date with regulations and guidelines, including those set forth by Southern California Edison. One thing I learned after researching HVAC, having a decent HVAC system installed properly is better than having a high-end system installed poorly. Curt struck us as being able to do the job right. We ultimately chose Curt over all other contractors not because of price (it ranked on the higher end), but because of his professionalism, knowledge, experience, and education. We were confident in his ability to install the system properly to save us in long-term energy cost (poor installation would result in inefficiency), and most importantly, to do so safely and according to code. The design/quote included a secondary drip pan for the AC system in the attic to help catch condensation/water caused by a defective AC -- only one other contractor provided this thoughtfulness. The pan would help minimize water damage to the ceiling as a result of leakage. Work started promptly and on time as agreed, and took about 5 days to complete (as proposed), which included hauling away the old furnace, ducting, AC coil, and the exterior AC compressor unit. Herb Yaeger, Curt's son, led the installation team of three (which included himself.) Further, the new AC compressor was wired professionally at the back of our yard after Curt found that the unit we wanted would not meet City guidelines at the original location. We had concerns moving it to the backyard, but in the end, it was a good choice. Attic work, including the new ducts, looked professional. The installation team even addressed our concern of how the new, exterior piping could degrade the aesthetic of our home by routing them in an unexpectedly nice way. Thanks, team! Manuals were left for us, and Curt took the time to explain/verify the thermostat usage/configuration, furnace/AC compressor functions, and recommended maintenance at the end of the project. City Inspection passed, and conveniently, he took care of all the procedures and supervision associated with permit/inspections. As someone who had to deal with City permits before, this was a great and much appreciated time saver. The only negatives we found were that we came home to cigarette smoke in one of our bathrooms on a couple of days, and that the spare key we provided was left under the front entrance mat by Herb's installation team at the end of the project. We were not sure if it was left there every day, or only on the final one. We thought and expected that the key would be taken home every day, and that it would be returned to Curt at the project's conclusion. Leaving the key under the mat posed a potential security risk to us, the homeowners, and when my wife brought up this concern to the installation team, she was told that I had asked them to do so. That was inaccurate. We shared this concern with Curt during the following meeting in hopes that the team would not do this with future customers. So, if you choose Yaeger, be sure to address these two items if they bother you. Overall, Curt, Herb, and their team were, as mentioned many times, very professional. Good communication, good work, patient and educated, and proud of their work. We found it amusing that Curt wanted to score as high as possible on the HERS test of the HVAC system, but that just shows you again how much pride he has in his work. My A/C stopped working this past week when the temperatures really started to climb. I called around to get it fixed on Thursday and several of the companies I called were scheduling appointments for the next MONDAY- NOT GOOD as this was going to be a hot weekend, too. I asked around work and a colleague said that he had used Angie's List to find Yaeger Services, had used them and was convinced that they did a great job, were reasonable in price and most importantly: Were HONEST. I called them about 3pm and they said they could not come on this day, but would schedule me for the next day between 11:00-1:00. I explained that I would be at work and would leave the sliding door open for them. They said I could send in a check for the work. I am thrilled with what they did. they left a complete and detailed invoice. They left instructions on how make a few changes so that the A/C would work more efficiently. Most Important is that the A/C was completely fixed and they left the cylinder for me to see as what had been replaced. They also put more insulation on the outside pipes and replaced the filter.
