Temps hitting high 90's and at 4pm, our AC fan stops spinning. I called Veteran Air at 9am and they had someone out the same day (it was just a few hours). Not only someone, but Kirk. Kirk was FANTASTIC! Our unit is 20 years old, we have never really had regular maintenance on it. He showed up super early (they asked if that was okay, and YES thank you). Before he arrived they sent a text with his name and photo. I absolutely love this! That extra safety is so important. Kirk looked at our unit and asked some questions. He explained all they do with the "family plan" so we signed up. I am one of those that needs to be reminded of scheduled upkeep so this is perfect. He gave us the estimate before he started and I asked for a very rough estimate of a new unit (having no idea) so we decided to go with repair and hope for the best. The repair wasn't cheap but considering all the work that needed to be done as well as it being an older unit, I feel it was a very fair price. I think we did have the best with Kirk. He was able to repair our unit and give it some much needed TLC for our AC unit and furnace. He even installed our pre-purchased thermostat! Kirk was polite and considerate. He took time to answer all of our questions and ensured us that we could reach out with any questions, I believe him. Service people can often be rushed, there is a lot of work out there, but not Kirk. He didn't waste time either, I felt like he was in and out in no time at all. By the time he left we understood all that was done and what we need to do to get some additional service from our current unit. I could not be happier with the call I made this morning. Received a mailer of a "pre-paid" heating/furnace tune up & a water heater sediment flush. My heater recently went out so I called them out. They sent another company, I didn't get any "pre-paid" service but was quoted $3,300+ to fix it. I was graciously offered a short term fix for $1,000+ and charged $89.00 for coming out. I can't say enough good things about Veteran Air and their technicians. I wanted to replace my HVAC system before the new refrigerant laws go into effect next month, so I started getting quotes. The first sales guy was at my house for 2 hours trying to scare me into using "the best" company. The second sales guy was at my house for an hour, so that was better. When David from Veteran came, he got right down to business and was able to give me a price within 30 mins. To be honest, all 3 quotes were almost exactly the same but Veteran Air was able to provide me with a military discount which was greatly appreciated. I had the system installed just a few days later after the long holiday weekend. Jonathan and Eddie showed up on time and got right to work. They wore shoe protectors and laid down tarps to avoid damaging or dirtying my floors. They worked all day straight through, I'm not even sure if they took any kind of breaks! I had let them know I wanted to clean up 15 years of leaves that were around my outside condenser and Eddie said he would do it for me. I wish I had a "before" picture because he did an amazing job! Well, as promised, when it was time to replace my nearly 20-year-old system, I went straight to Veteran Air. Although Carlos told me in 2022 that I probably had a year left in it, it's still been inefficiently trucking along for two; however, since I was already working on home improvement stuff this summer , I figured why not throw another five figure number into the ring, especially since every time I turn it on now, I'm bracing for it to either fail or blow up my house. So better to replace it under my control, rather than under the gun. What can I say? David was a real pleasure to work with when he came out to quote the job a week or so ago, and Edwin, Anthony, and Steve worked their butts off for 11 hours to get this thing installed - which was no easy feat, considering the specifics of my particular job (namely, a unit in a VERY tight spot - a small closet within a closet, with both clearly built out AFTER the original unit was installed - with no other place to put it, making removal and especially replacement extremely difficult). The location of my system and innately understanding the challenges therein is the primary reason I've dreading its eventual replacement since I purchased the house in 2006, because I knew it would be an absolute nightmare for an eventual crew unlucky enough to pull my number - haha - and I frankly wasn't even confident it COULD be replaced. But Edwin and the guys worked a literal miracle to make it happen, with nary a complaint. Oh sure, they ACKNOWLEDGED it was a "challenge" (least being said), but I never detected any aggravation or negativity throughout the day - more like bemused wonder that an installation could be THIS absurd. To be honest, if **I** was on that crew, I would've been like, "nope. not doing this. put me on another job." Haha! They didn't leave until long after sunset, ensuring that the system was fully tested and running before they left - and of course, it goes without saying that they cleaned up before they went. Edwin offered to show me how to program my thermostat before leaving, but I assured him I'd figure it out, and I shooed them on their way to get a good night's sleep. (Now here's hoping I can actually figure it out, but I know if I can't, the company will be right there to help.) My son had been complaining about the whole process and couldn't understand why I was spending the money and putting him out to do it (major impact on him, since that closet within a closet is in HIS room), when the system was working "just fine," but this morning when he left for work he was like, "it was cold in my room last night, that was really nice." Note that the thermostat was set to where it was the night before installation; the difference was noticeable. It's always a bit emotionally taxing to have a crew in your home all day long, and it always sucks to spend this kind of money for a decidedly unsexy item, but the sting is really assuaged when the crew is as awesome, gregarious, professional, and fun to work with as this one was. read more

This was a great company at onetime, but no longer. I had use Veteran Air for over a decade, they replaced two compressor units and replace all the ducting. Recently they "performed a Service" on the two units, compressor and furnace. This consisted of only taking a photo of the furnace. No filter change - nothing, the service to the compressors consisted of looking at the wiring. When I asked if he was going to check pressures he said they had been sued, so they no longer check pressures. So, in essence they do nothing! read more

Called today to see if veteran air had a warranty on the labor of an installation but looks like the company barely exists anymore. The new company (dial one) that answered has no access to records from veteran air either. Cell phones and office numbers are all disconnected as well. It's unfortunate that veteran air just disappeared without notice to current customers. I had an ac system installed many years ago and had a great experience dealing with the previous owner directly and had no issues spending my money with them again on a new system based on my past experience but now wish I didn't. This is a long over due review. As a military family, I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED about this company. Back in 2023, our A/C unit stopped working in the middle of the summer. Desperate, we called Veteran Air for help. They gave us a quote of $3,556.02 to repair the unit or buy a completely new unit. My husband was suspicious because the unit is only a few years old when we moved in. The charged us $76 for the visit. He called another guy and turns out the unit is in good working condition...just needed a small part to be replaced. Cost us $150 for labor and repair!!!! The unit has been working perfectly without any further repairs or maintenance. Unbelievable that we almost got SCAMMED thousands of dollars by this "veteran owned" company. Shame on you. read more

My Father is a Navy veteran and had a new system put in less than two years ago. We were notified today that the system was put in poorly, and they are now asking for $4,000 to fix the repairs that were supposedly guaranteed. Taking our business elsewhere. Also, Dial One Sonshine OC Heating and Plumbing should remove any website presence of the old company since their license is expired. This could be perceived as false advertising. If the Dial One Sonshine OC Heating and Plumbing has any ownership association with Veteran Air, this could create legal liability. They also have an active website up marketing their business that doesn't exist, and sends it to Dial One Sonshine OC Heating and Plumbing. Another potential liability for the new company. Tried to sell me a brand new A/C unit. Needed fixing-issues were found by the next company and fixed.

Los Angeles summers are hotter than they were several years ago, and I was tired of using portable air conditioners. We had a 40+ years old central heating furnace. I wanted to install a proper AC into our house for the first time. David gave us quotes for both a traditional split (central) ac system and mini split system. Mini splits were lower in price for us since the central ac system required us to upgrade our duct work and move our furnace to the attic (for noise reasons). We also wanted zoning capabilities so we choose the mini split route. They were also able upgrade us to a Daikin unit. We had three installers perform the job. On the 2nd day, I made some layout changes for the indoor head and linesets and they were able to accommodate that as well. They do their very best to make the customer satisfied with the installation. I'd like to thank Luiz for doing the extra stucco work required to accommodate my particular layout of the lineset connection with the indoor heads. Stucco work isn't really part of the skillbook of an HVAC tech but Luiz was able to do it. Edwin worked on the heat pump. Ben provided the final walkthrough and gave me some tips on how to use the mini splits as well as how to maintain it. I also learned about how heat pumps work. The installers worked very hard on the last day in order to finish the job in the quoted 3 days time. Overall, this thing is quiet and performs really well! Individual temperature control over each zone is awesome. Very important since my mom is sensitive to noise and has quite different temperature preferences to others in the house. P.S. if you choose to install mini splits, plan very carefully about where you want the linesets and the indoor head units. Look at the outside and inside of your house and imagine what works and looks best. Know what's possible and what's not possible. It's important for both aesthetic and functional reasons (i.e. is this going to look good on the inside and outside, do the linesets or condensation pipe on the outside look okay, are they going to conflict with any future remodeling projects, ect.). I decided to repaint the entire house, inspired by this incident, but I appreciate the offer to fix the paint errors 1) Yes, it's true, you installed the 4" filter cabinet. I was just perplexed as to why this was not offered to me on the initial install, as I had stated that air quality was one of the reasons I wanted a system. Even it it was an extra cost, I should have been notified. 2) This is true. You absolutely quieted the very loud system and I was very appreciative. 3) I was not exactly sure what the needs were, all I knew was it didn't pass inspection, which was alarming at the time (given all we had gone through) 4) It's true that I did not want the grill taken out, but when the gas company came they said the pilot light was still on. That shouldn't have happened. Again, I appreciate the good intentions and the positive attitude, I just feels it's my duty as a consumer to be truthful. I stick to 3 stars! read more

I've been using Veteran Air for a few years now. While their technicians do good work, the company has serious scheduling problems. We have done their annual service plan, which supposedly gets us priority scheduling, but every appointment I've scheduled for at least the last 2 years has been canceled week of the appointment because the scheduled technician had a family emergency. Do they not have backups? It seems pretty irresponsible to inconvenience clients this way. I will not be using them again. read more

Veteran Air installed the WRONG parts as part of the new AC system and did NOT fix the problem. I do not recommend this company. Terrible service, dishonesty, and integrity - I do not understand why this company has this many good reviews online. After spending more than $17K on a new system, they installed the wrong item due to the sales manager not writing down the right system on the work order for technicians. Luckily we noticed that they did not install a 4" filter as ordered. They installed a 1" filter after knowing we specifically wanted a good filter for severe allergies. They promised to provide some type of resolution. They never showed up to fix it after 5 months, never emailed back to address the problem, didn't call me back after I left a voicemail returning their call. It's all sales lip service talk with David. I was patient to give them a few months to rectify the situation, and was clear that I wanted to contact them first before posting a negative public review. They did not care and are aware that they deserve this negative review due to lack of integrity to fix the problem in installing the wrong system parts. Buyer beware. Edit 4/29/24: Veteran Air responds on all public reviews that they're gonna show up. They didn't even show up to their appointment to "make it right". We waited for 2 hours to give them a chance. Please be aware that the company we have all raved about for years is no longer the same company. The owner, Mike Andersen, passed in 2023 and that is when the company began it's decline. In December 2024 it was sold to Dial One but is still advertising as VeteranAir, by adding USA.net to their internet address. Most long term employees left prior to or around the sale of the business so don't think that you are getting the same Veteran Air that we all loved and supported for years. I will be looking for a new company when my unit needs replacing in the near future. read more

If I could give this company a 10 I would! They serviced our old house and were always professional. When we bought our new house we had them come and look at our system and found it to be severely lacking - the venting was not working properly in downstairs unit, the ducting in the attic was splayed open and there needed to be a water pan upstairs. After my husband got 4 quotes, we choose Veteran Air. Veteran Air gave us a fair price. More amazing was the team of guys who came out to install our system. Highly professional, courteous of our property. I happened to be upstairs working and could overhear their conversations - all very respectful and family oriented. It took them 2 full days because there was a leak in the freon line. They reran the line and looks professional. Two of them came back, at our convenience, to do some cosmetic work. I called Veteran Air for HVAC routine maintenance and thermostat installation, and they had Angel out the next day looking things over very thoroughly. He found: * I had a significantly oversized furnace for my house, and the AC was undersized * Several components had pretty bad corrosion * The AC condenser was literally falling apart * The ducting in the house was too narrow for the furnace size, and not sealed properly * All components were a few years out of warranty, and the AC unit in particular was originally rated for 8 SEER Given the scope of the issues - and my independent confirmation that (a) these were problems in both fact and principle and (b) were going to cost approximately as much to repair as replace - I asked Veteran Air to quote a few options. David came out a few days later - limited by my schedule - and quoted a few different options that would make sense, given how my house was set up and how little space was available on my electrical panel, with a massive discount for getting work done during the slow season (as long as I took the timeslot available the next business day). I'm now set up with an 18 SEER system that's working wonderfully, for a lower cost than buying the components myself. Installation was quoted at 2 days just in case, and it was completed within 1. Jose, Dave, Edwin, and Ben were great - efficient, courteous, and they cleaned up after themselves. And did I mention that they replaced an entire HVAC system including ducting in a single day? They scheduled and sent a tech the same day as our initial call. They sent texts to let us know we were scheduled and the technicians sent a text with their pictures to let us know when they were en route. So helpful. Unfortunately, our old unit needed to be replaced so we decided to move the furnace to the attic and replace the old ducts at the same time, which was a three-day job. Shout out to an excellent work crew -- Edwin, Jonaton, Eddie and Anthony. These guys worked steady and hard throughout the days with no breaks. They were so considerate of us during the project and kept their "mess" to a minimum. When they did run into a glitch they let us know and they always had solutions and options to fix the problem. Apparently this company is still owned by Mike, but it's essentially become Service Champions, the company we left. Veteran Air has completely changed their business model, and sadly I approved $2k of unnecessary work before this dawned on me. I used to pay a higher price for a service call and a single tech showed up, gave me straightforward pricing, and went on his way. This last time, a supervisor, tech, and trainee showed up and did the upsell game from the Service Champions play book, selling me upgrades that SC techs had recommended to me 6 years ago that I declined and which my system has been working completely fine without. They were going to replace my motor, but after I canceled our $220 "annual maintenance plan" realizing it was the same garbage we paid to SC for over 10 years, they ghosted me. Really disappointed the company has sold out. Fortunately I have a buddy who recently started his own HVAC company, so I'll be going to him from now on and paying him good money for honest work. read more

So this is an update to my previous review and it is sad for me and my family. I already went over about the insulation and having to spend $4000 but it turns out that the heating element which was pointed out to me was burning off so my 2 1/2 year unit looks like it is 7-8 years old, is cracked and can be a danger. There are other things that were not done properly when the unit was installed have to be taken care of now. The cost with the insulation is going to cost $9000. The only thing the heating element is still under warranty so that we are getting for free. If Veteran Air was still around I would go after them and have them correct all there mistakes at no charge to me but you cannot go after a company that is no longer there. All the customers were referred to Dial One but they just handle any service needs. Anyway be careful when you are shopping for a company to get a new AC unit as there is a lot more to it then just a unit. Do your research read more

After posting my initial review for a no call no show, I was contacted by Veteran air and they apologized for the missed appointment due to a scheduling error on their part. They asked if they could still come out to provide an estimate and I agreed before making a final decision on which company to go with. David came out and was very knowledgeable and down to earth. He gave us a great price for the 4 climate zone system we needed and I went with their service over the other quotes we had received. Veteran air seemed to have the best value with a higher quality system at an affordable price. They started the installation the following week. Jaicub and his team were very professional and knowledgeable and were great about cleaning up at the end of each work day. The initial install took about a a week to complete. After that there was some lingering installation issues due to the complex installation requirements of our home. In the end the job was completed to our satisfaction, and the drywall repairs were made to put the home back together from the install. We are very happy with the results. We have only had this system for a few months, but I will say that Veteran Air has really good follow up service. We got a 1 year maintenance plan with the purchase and have had to have them come out to make a few adjustments. They are typically able to get someone out within a day or two to address our concerns. I would definitely recommend this company and will be using them again on our next property purchase. read more

Troy with Veteran Air did a great job coming out to look at my AC unit in the attic. In the past the secondary condense drain line leaked on the side of the house because whoever installed the unit originally didn't expose and give clearance to the secondary drain pipe. Wanted to get the leak addressed as well as clear the primary drain pipe. About a year or less ago some other AC repair guy came out to flush primary line but where the primary drain was kinked he said he was only an AC guy and not a plumber. Told Troy about this experience and he changed the pipe (because it was part of the solution and he's capable!) and he also advised to disabled the secondary drain and added a electronic kill switch to the secondary so there would be no further damage or chance of water damage. I agreed to his suggestion and he handled it and sent me updates along the way. Good communication and the price was fair for the amount of work/time/parts and convenience. Good first time experience with this company and would reuse for future HVAC issues. read more
