Got the lamb gyros combo. I am trying gluten free so I asked if they could not do the pita. They gave me a large potion of the Greek salad and threw the meat on top. It was very good. And enough food for two. The dolmas were also good. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the gyros meat left me wanting. read more

Today was our second visit here. I was not a fan the first time we visited but i thought we'd give it a second try to be fair. I thought the food was terrible. The chicken was a very strange texture and extremely dry. It didn't seem fresh at all and left a strange aftertaste. Their chili sauce is a very thick paste that is not appetizing at all. The produce also didn't seem fresh and the pita was soggy. My husband even commented on how he questions how clean it was inside as there was a considerable amount of flies flying around and into our car while we were waiting for our food. To top it all off, both times we visited, the man working was outside smoking, so as soon as you drive up, you get a nice cloud of smoke in your car. Not very appetizing. read more

Oh yes, you need to try this place. Lamb Gyro all the way. I loved the sauce, it was a good combo of cool tzatziki and creamy amazingness. Delicious and fresh all the way around. The Greek salad was probably the best I've had. The Homemade dressing was incredible. I really wish I didn't live 3 hours away, but I'm glad my parents live up here. Went there two weeks ago and we almost tried one of everything on the menu. The lamb gyros are amazing!! The portion is so big, that there was enough for a second meal the next morning. We made sure to go back the following weekend to see if it was a one-hit-wonder. To our delight, it was equally as delicious the second time around. I wish they would add falafels though... My husband and I love this place!!! We have not tried the other location yet. We have been going to Xanders since they opened. I go there several times a week but if I lived in Redding I would go daily. I love the lamb.....I like to get the greek salad with lamb :) Mark is wonderful and we will continue to go back. Just food for thought but I have lost 50 lbs. since May and it has everything to do with what I eat and that's a whole lot of Xanders!!!!! LOVE this place!!!!!!! read more

The 5 stars is for the excellent service every time at the Churn Creek location and family style business. The lamb gyro is the best and so filling! This is a small drive through with outside seating. The food is fresh whole foods it is not over processed. The coffee is flavorful and potent enough to keep a regular coffee drinker an extra boost without the unneeded caffeine headache. read more

The man who cooks there now is AWESOME. Great service, personable, great cook, great portions, top level restaurant service ive EVER HAD ! So this is a small walk up/drive up restaurant with 3 or 4 outdoor seating tables with sun shade. the Lamb Gyro is awesome, the baclava is killer, and the Turkish coffee perfect. great Hummus, Pita bread never fails. cannot go wrong with this one. read more

I couldn't wait to try this when I saw the sign on my way to work, because I LOVE Greek food and wanted more options than just my beloved Greek Shack. Imagine my disappointment when I saw their menu was almost a carbon copy of the GS', but minus my favorite: the falafel. I ordered a chicken Gyro. When I opened the box, I was surprised to see how HUGE it was. I had to use a knife and a fork, but it didn't work so great because the strips of chicken were dry and stretchy, the texture really reminded me of meat replacement products, like soy bacon or tempeh jerky. The lettuce looked like it was bagged salad (actually I am pretty damn sure it was) and the edges of my iceberg were brown. The pita wasn't soft and pillowy as I hoped, and the whole thing was just DRENCHED in Tzatziki. I mean, don't get me wrong, I LOVE sauces and especially cream-based ones, but I felt the ratio was really off. It was an OK meal, but I wasn't blown away like I am when I eat at the Greek Shack. I will give them some time to hit their stride and try them again, but for now I will walk down to the aqua colored cottage in front of Bob's Liquors and enjoy a falafel in the sunshine. read more

Very good food. The restaurant is obviously small as it used to be a drive-through coffee place, but the food is excellent for take-out.

Xanders was recommended by a friend who raved about the food but I think he was having a flashback to the sixties and Berkeley. I ordered the combo plate which consisted of a gyro, beans and a salad. The salad was OK but was served with a weird tasting dressing, very bitter. The gyro was saturated in a white cream dressing and the lamb was nearer to the goat I had once in Saigon. I didn't even try the grits. Not very appetizing and left after a few bites of salad and gyro. I'll pass on this place too. read more

My husband and I eat hear about once a week. The lamb gyros are amazing! We love the hummus and pita too. The service is excellent (always "to go" for us). Food is usually enough for two meals (for me!). Haven't tried greek shack on Hartnell but it is owned by the same people. Very good! We love it! read more

By far the best meal I have had in a very long time. The lamb was tender and delicious, grilled to yummy perfection, the humus and pita were so fresh and awesome, if you pull up to the drive through, just turn off your engine and relax, meals this good are worth the wait read more

I love this place! I started eating here about 6 months ago and get the Greek salad and an order of hummus and pita. When you go don't be in a time crunch. It may be a drive thru but it's not the fastest place. That being said I believe the food it well worth it. I still get my same order but I tried the lamb for the first time ever yesterday. my family tried this for the first time. my family is Greek and I'm pretty sure this place had potential but needs to focus on quality and flavor instead of just serving Greek dishes. they need to put more time into making it taste good! wasn't impressed. very expensive for what you get. family of five was 75 dollars! not worth it. read more

i stopped by Xanders on my way home from work to give it a try...read all the great reviews and needed a Greek fix..i ordered the lamb gyro because of all the great reviews and i wasnt disappointed..yummy, yummy, yummy good for my tummy!...it smelled sooo good i actually started picking out pieces of the lamb to eat while i was driving...great presentation and so fresh...i will be back! read more
