I've been eating here for the past year, and up until last Wednesday, I would have told anyone this place was one of my favorites. The workers were always friendly, the food was always solid, and I had never had a reason to complain. And then... I ordered an 8-inch sandwich through Uber and opened it up to find not one, not two, BUT THREE LONG BLACK HAIRS IN MY SANDWICH. Three. Not "oops, maybe a stray hair fell in by accident" territory. I'm talking about a full-blown hair trilogy. A hair every couple of inches like somebody was out here seasoning my sandwich with their hair. It was beyond disgusting. At that point, it honestly felt impossible to believe this was accidental. How do you get three long hairs in one sandwich, spread out across the whole thing, and nobody notices? Be serious. What made it even worse was that I was stuck in trial all day, couldn't leave to get anything else, and needed lunch so I could function through a long day in court. Instead, I got a stomach-turning surprise and basically lost my meal. I'm not even writing this angry as much as I'm writing it heartbroken. This was one of my favorite places. But after finding three long hairs in a single sandwich, I'm done. I can't unsee that. I can't unread that. I can't un-gross that. Sadly, this was enough to end a one-year relationship. Just tried this on a friend's recommendation. Definitely quality food and quick friendly service. The roast beef in the French dip was pleasantly pink and tender. The bread had a great crust and was soft inside. Everything you want in a sandwich. The place is super clean, the restroom is well decorated, tables are shiny. It's all new and looks very welcoming. Right now there is a Christmas music track playing with a huge tree in the room. All in all, this is a nice place. I'll be back and I'm sure they will do well in a great location. read more

Bria, the shift supervisor at Sourdough Bread Company, and her staff are exceptional. The owner or general manager did an outstanding job hiring her. The bread is delicious, the sandwiches are delicious, and everything is great. I am not quite sure why some people left the negative reviews they did. The only thing I can think of is maybe it is friends or family of the competition. Ignore the bad reviews and try it for yourself. You will love it. To no fault of the staff themselves, this place was a total disappointment. For 25$/ person for a sandwich and small cup of soup and drink the food was nothing to write home about. The French dip aujus was tasteless, Mac n cheese was cold. For this just being a run of the mill sandwich shop, which are a dime a dozen... it was WAY overpriced. I would think in order to stay in business, a sandwich shop would need to be much more impressive. My first visit to the SBC. I was in the mood for a salad and was very pleased with their Cobb! I ordered the small and it was very filling and delicious. I was super impressed with the ample and fresh toppings! So much avocado, what a treat! I thought the lettuce could have used more cutting up though, as some of the pieces were so large I put toppings inside and rolled them up and dipped in the dressing like a wrap. Counter guy was nice. There was no wait and they made my food in just a couple of minutes. Inside is clean and new. Will return to try some of the other offerings like soup and sandwiches. read more

My initial visit was outstanding! Ordered 6 different sandwiches on sliced sourdough and they were great. Service was top notch. Only took about 10 minutes and my to go order was ready and enjoyed by our pickleball group. However, have returned twice and the experience and food has been sub par. More lettuce on the sandwiches than meat and waited considerably longer even though there were only a few other patrons. I know wait times can vary depending on call in orders so that wasn't a big deal but the quality of the food was not worthy of the price. read more

Having tried West Coast Sourdough and recently Panera when they arrived in Redding, we gave Sourdough Bread Co. a shot tonight. tl;dr? Decent food, and good service. In store, we ordered two French Dips (8" - they offer a smaller 6" as well) and a smokehouse brisket sandwich as well as a small mac n cheese to go. Total time in-to-out was 15 minutes, which was 2-3 times faster than Panera on much simpler orders. Ambiance of the store is nice. There are some wooden tables on the left and the order line and food prep area is on the right. The self serve drink bank is right at the door, bathrooms at the back. Tables were clean and the whole place seemed well-kept. The food was good all around. I would say pricing is mid-level. The portions are nice, which makes it not seem as expensive as Panera as you get more, and the overall food quality is as good or better than Panera. The bread was at least proofed long enough so it wasn't flat like at Panera. The french dips were delicious as was the au jus they were served with. The brisket sandwich was also very good (if a bit messy). My only small complaint about it was the cabbage in the coleslaw was too thick and made an unpleasant overly-crunchy chew at times. The house sauce is a kind of tangy mayo or aioli and came on all three sandwiches. I wasn't sure if my daughter would like it as she's not a mayo fan, but she did. The portion size of the sandwiches is large enough that none of us finished the 8" and there were three half sandwiches left over for later. The mac n cheese was good, but nothing special to write home about. The packaging talks about eco-friendly and recycling, etc (especially on the mac n cheese container), which is fine, but then the whole take out was packed and handed to us in a plastic bag. Oops. That's not eco-friendly! I would hope they evaluate their message for consistency and change to branded paper bags for take-out, instead. Overall this visit was a pretty good experience, the best of the three sourdough contenders new to Redding. We'll definitely be going back to try some of the other hot sandwiches. EDIT: Well, that didn't take long. We went back the next night and tried their clam chowder bread bowl (offered all week long in addition to their daily soup special). For the same price Panera charges for theirs, here you get a sourdough bread bowl that is at least 50% larger, softer, and more bready. The clam chowder itself was also very good. The only small ding on it was that it did not come with a pat of butter as is generally traditional when serving bread bowls so you can butter the cap. Faced with Panera or here as your binary choice for soup or soup in a bread bowl, this is the obvious winner, and that doesn't even take into account the much slower service at Panera. read more

The restaurant offers a large variety of options and great value. Small Cobb salad was actually quite large, very satisfying and served with fresh bread.
