X FISH was once our all time favorite AYCE spot. We came here to celebrate my daughter's birthday in June. The sushi itself was still quality and flavor point is still so good. While we were eating our first round we were asked multiple times to leave a good review, leave the servers name and get a free beer in return. It was some sort of in house competition. I am pretty sure this practice is against yelp rules btw. I would advise to be wary of the 5 star reviews on yelp. Ambiance started out good, the place was clean and packed and we were enjoying our time until the whole bait and switch. By the time we were on to our second round, it was taking longer to get our order. We told several of the servers coming by and they would say they will check on it but we didn't feel like anyone actually checked on it. Finally after 30-40 minutes we started to get our 2nd order. Then all of the sudden one of the guys hands us our receipt and tells us that we hit the 90minute limit. I was absolutely furious. Our family knows exactly what we want and we don't dilly dally when we're eating sushi so it was not a delay on us putting in orders or eating our food. It was 100% a delay on them putting out our 2nd order. But what's worse is that instead of taking ownership and letting us order for our 3rd round, they decided to argue with me and say they couldn't do anything. After much push back from me and me getting more upset they finally said we could order our 3rd round. The food came out and the rice seemed extra hard. So we put the rice to the side. One of the guys came and said he was going to charge us for leaving rice. So we forcefully ate some. Overall they were really nice and attentive the 1st round when they were trying to get good reviews. after that Servers were straight ignoring us and argumentative. Absolutely atrocious behavior for a Sushi place that charges $40-60 a head. Will not be coming back here again. read more

Worst experience ever. The first round of rolls we put in didn't come out until over an hour later. The so called manager kept checking on us and telling us it'll come soon and soon never came. Then when we finally got the salmon roll there was a hair and the fish didn't taste good at all. He refused to comp anything or give a discount. Quite frankly the best AYCE sushi i've ever had. As of today the average gas price is $6.20 a gallon and i'd pay that tenfold and drive through traffic from San Diego to come eat here again. Service was quick as well, faster than I would drive to come eat here again. Did I mention how nice the restaurant looked? Waited about 1 1/2 hours on a Saturday, which seems fairly normal for a ayce spot. The fish quality is pretty good as I've seen some pretty good quality fish at other ayce locations. The food came out fairly quick and the servers were attentive with taking plates and refilling waters. Very well lit and clean which makes this great for any occasion. read more

I've visited X Fish three or four times before, but today's experience was disappointing. Although the restaurant was only half full with many empty tables, a waitress told us to wait outside while one vacated table was cleaned. When we explained that it was very hot outside and asked to wait inside, she pointed to a sign and said, "This is our restaurant policy," rather than trying to accommodate us. She is not smiling at all and said it with very rude attitude. Her unfriendly attitude made us feel unwelcome, and my friend became so uncomfortable that we decided to leave. I informed the manager that we would not be staying for lunch. After several previous visits, we are now reconsidering whether to return. read more

Review #38 for 2025 We've been here many times and everytime has been great! We've never really had to long of a wait coming here. I think the longest wait we've had was 20 minutes. I personally do not eat much sushi except for the ones that are cooked, but my husband loves sushi, and this place has plenty for both of us! We also have our baby and he loves the food here too! He mainly just eats the fried rice and goyza. He's not even 2 yet, so he's pretty limited in what he can eat... and plus kids at that age can get picky, so he loves one item on time we go and the next time we're there he won't touch it. We've always had great service here and the food comes out pretty quick. You order some items on a paper form and the rest of your items by scanning a QR code that they give you. They have a few different menus you can choose from. There's a lunch menu from 11a-2p for $28, but it is much more limited. It does not include any of the appetizers. There's a regular signature dinner menu for $39 and one that includes omakase for $55. Our go-to is the signature menu. It has enough for both my husband who loves sushi and me who goes for more of the cooked items and appetizers. We did try the lunch menu before, but for me, since I don't eat a lot of sushi, it was not worth it. I would rather get the signature menu. I really like their fried rice and the ramen is not bad either. I also like their tempura and mussels. Would I come back here? Yes, we've been back many times and do plan on coming back here again. The food is good and the prices is pretty reasonable. Parking in the plaza is also free! read more

DO NOT COME HERE. WORST DINING EXPERIENCE. My family and I came to X-Fish Izakaya on Fourth of July for dinner since we were nearby running errands. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. Let's start off with the sushi and carpaccio. The albacore carpaccio had a weird, unfresh bitter taste. We informed our server, Jayden, of this and told him to let the sushi chef know. We asked if he could replace the albacore carpaccio with another type of fish, but he denied our request. Not only did Jayden not do anything to resolve the quality issue, he just took it, and threw it away in the trash can. Next, let's move to the hot food items, the baked mussels were cold when they came out. We decided to order it again and give it another try on our second round, we tasted it immediately and it was just as cold as the ones from the first round. Judging from the temperature of the baked mussels, it is definitely premade and just came out from the refrigerator. We also informed Jayden of this and his attitude was the same as before. He just took it away and acted like nothing happened. We wanted to ask for the order sheet, but Jayden misunderstood and thought that we were asking for the check because the music in there was at full blast. Jayden suddenly mentioned if we knew about the policy about leftovers and rice, at that time, there was like two pieces of sushi on our table. We mentioned that we were not done with our meal yet and we just wanted to order more items. Jayden kept pointing at us and wouldn't leave us alone. Jayden emphasized that he is only the server and he can't do anything about the food quality. I completely understand that, but he only wanted to argue with us, instead of solving the issues. Since Jayden did not want to resolve any of the food quality issues, we asked if we could speak to the manager and he mentioned that the manager is not here. The management team here needs to train its staff on customer service. Do yourself a favor, avoid this restaurant, and save your money and time for better AYCE places out there. We left the restaurant within an hour and ended up buying tacos afterwards. Definitely one of the most memorable Fourth of Julys I've had. read more

I love sushi--especially high-quality sushi--so I usually avoid all-you-can-eat places. But after being invited by friends and seeing the great reviews, I decided to give this spot a try, and I'm glad I did. When we arrived, we were first led to the outdoor seating area, which didn't have air conditioning. Since we saw indoor tables available on our way in, we asked if we could sit inside instead. At first, they were hesitant to accommodate the change, but they eventually moved us indoors, which we really appreciated. The inside was quite loud, making it hard to have a conversation, so we decided to just focus on the food. The waitress explained how it works: you can order three rounds of sushi, but premium items like bluefin tuna and carpaccio are limited to the first round. There's no limit for side dishes like tempura, rolls, or chicken karaage. We started with the yellowtail and salmon carpaccio--both were fresh and flavorful. We regretted not ordering all four carpaccio options, since we couldn't reorder them in later rounds. The bluefin tuna was also excellent, but again, limited to one round. The rest of the sushi was good--not extraordinary, but solid quality, especially compared to some AYCE spots where the sushi can feel like an afterthought. Here, everything was enjoyable and well-prepared. The tempura shrimp stood out--light, crispy batter with tender shrimp inside. The chicken skewers were delicious too, though they only come around every 45 minutes, so don't miss them when offered. Overall, this place meets my expectations for an AYCE sushi restaurant. I'd definitely keep it as an option the next time I'm craving sushi without breaking the bank. read more

I left disappointed after my last visit. My party and I arrived for lunch, but we were told we could not get the lunch deal because it was one minute past 2pm by the time we were seated. This felt unfair, especially since there were plenty of open tables and it appeared the staff was not seating guests promptly. Didn't bother taking pictures because it was so ugly. The shrimp was for lols Update: we have been to Japan. And know good sushi. My salmon roe was slimy and was spoiled. We chose the Signature AYCE menu and it did not disappoint! We tried a bunch of different nigiris but the standouts were the Yuzu Yellowtail and the Salmon. I wasn't planning on getting the grilled chicken teriyaki but they were passing them out and it was probably one of my favorite things that I had, it was so flavorful and perfectly cooked and was a nice texture/flavor break from all the sushi. The carpaccio was refreshing and the ramen was a good size. Everything we ate was delicious except for the pork in the ramen - it was so dry and flavorless, basically like old turkey deli meat. Second time visiting X-Fish in Brea, and once again I left thoroughly disappointed. We originally planned to dine at the Buena Park location, but when we arrived there was a sign posted on the door saying they were temporarily closed for repairs, so we drove to the Brea location instead. Unfortunately, the experience only went downhill from there. After being seated, my dad politely asked our server, Megan, whether they carried a certain menu item. Instead of answering verbally, she simply pointed at the QR code for the online menu without saying a word. It immediately came across as dismissive and rude. Throughout the meal, another female server with yellow hair also contributed to the uncomfortable experience. Whenever she came by to collect used plates, she would repeatedly gesture with her hand for us to hand the dishes over in a manner that felt impatient and condescending rather than welcoming or professional. The worst part came when the members of my party ordered ramen and udon dishes. My dad's order never arrived with the rest of the food. He had to ask three separate servers for an update. One of them was Megan, who casually responded with "it should be on its way" without even checking with the kitchen. Meanwhile, the rest of us were already eating while my dad sat there waiting. The only positive part of the experience was a male server who finally took the initiative to immediately check with the kitchen and bring the dish out shortly after. This was supposed to be a birthday lunch with my wife, parents, and in-laws, and the poor service from Megan completely soured the experience. I understand restaurants get busy, but basic courtesy, communication, and professionalism should still be expected. I've eaten at X Fish Izakaya several times this year, and while it's one of the few all-you-can-eat sushi spots around, it comes with a lot of issues. First and foremost, the noise level is extremely high due to the lack of proper sound padding in the space. I highly recommend bringing noise-canceling headphones because every time someone moves their chair, the screeching sound against the concrete floor echoes throughout the entire restaurant, which can quickly become very annoying. The whole space echoes, making it hard to enjoy your meal in peace. In terms of food, I appreciate that it's all-you-can-eat sushi, which sets it apart from most other sushi restaurants. However, the ordering process is a serious flaw. You have to scan a QR code on your phone and order through their web-based system, but unfortunately, it's riddled with bugs. With only 90 minutes to dine, any delay caused by the ordering system takes away from your time to enjoy the meal. While I generally support restaurants innovating with technology, in this case, the execution falls short. As for the ambiance, while the restaurant's design may initially give off a high-end vibe, after sitting for a bit, it becomes clear that it's just a façade. Wanted to celebrate my wife's bday, so brought her here with our kids for dinner. When we entered, the restaurant is about 20% full, we were told to sign in at the tablet. After the sign-in, I stepped out to wait, while my wife whose holding my baby boy was told by the staff to wait outside. REALLY? THERE WERE NOBODY THERE AND YOU WANTED A LADY WITH A BOY TO WAIT OUTSIDE WHEN THE WIND IS TRAVELING at 60MPH+ ? Just that itself left a bad taste already. We literally waited outside for two minutes and got called in, WTF? what is the point of kicking her out when it is only going to take two minutes to get the table ready? Food is somewhat delicious, that is the only good thing. Towards the end, I ordered two plates and an edamame, couple minutes later, everything was sent to the table next to us. People at the table looked confused and clearly showed that they didn't order it, but the server made an eye contact and walked away. Right then, I had absolutely no appetite at all. Called for the check, the guy in the front forgot about it until I finally gave him a death stare. While the ambiance and food were quite enjoyable, I was disappointed with the level of customer service, which I would rate at 1 star. When we were seated, we noticed a strand of hair in the ginger. I immediately informed the waiter, who took the ginger away without offering an apology or acknowledging the issue. At the end of the meal, I brought up the matter again and expressed my expectation for better service. The waiter then offered to call the manager, but Simon, another employee, came to our table instead and informed us that there are no managers working at the restaurant. I clarified that I wasn't necessarily looking for a manager but simply expected an apology or some gesture to address the issue. Instead, Simon responded by saying it was "normal" and happens often because they prepare a large amount of ginger daily. This response was both surprising and disappointing, as it downplayed the situation rather than resolving it. To make matters worse, another employee implied that the hair might have been ours, indirectly questioning our honesty. I am writing to bring to your attention a recent experience that a friend of mine had at your sushi restaurant, which was quite disappointing and unacceptable. My friend was the first customer to arrive at your establishment on 10-24-24, accompanied by her baby in a stroller. Upon arrival, she was met with a rude inquiry from your staff regarding whether she planned to bring in her stroller. While I understand that space may be limited and precautions may need to be taken, the tone and manner in which this question was posed were unwelcoming, to say the least. After being seated, my friend noticed that despite being the first customer, she was not attended to promptly. In fact, two other groups arrived after her and were served before her. This lack of attentiveness and the rude treatment she received left her feeling unwelcome and frustrated. I believe that every customer deserves to be treated with respect and courtesy, regardless of whether they are accompanied by a child or have other special circumstances. My friend chose your restaurant for its reputation and quality, but unfortunately, this experience has left a negative impression. I would appreciate it if you could address this issue with your staff to ensure that all customers receive the service and respect they deserve. Our visit to was a series of disappointments from start to finish. After being seated, we waited a full 10 minutes just to receive menus. This slow start set the tone for the entire meal. The real shock came when we noticed there were no plates on the table. Upon requesting plates, we were told they were "out of plates" and could only provide one for our child. We had to resort to using plates from our ordered dishes to eat. This level of unpreparedness is unacceptable for any restaurant. The atmosphere was equally problematic. The music was so loud that I had to shout to communicate with my child sitting right beside me. This created a stressful environment, far from the enjoyable family meal we had hoped for. While hot food arrived promptly, the sushi took an extraordinarily long time, despite five visible sushi chefs behind the counter. This inconsistency in timing made for an awkward dining experience. Food quality was average at best - not terrible, but certainly not good enough to compensate for the numerous issues we encountered. The combination of slow initial service, lack of basic dining essentials, deafening music, and inconsistent food timing made this one of our worst restaurant experiences. I cannot recommend this establishment, especially for families or anyone seeking a pleasant dining atmosphere. I recently visited X-fish Izakaya on a Sunday for lunch and opted for the Omakase + AYCE option. The Omakase platter was definitely the highlight of the meal, offering a variety of fish with a unique twist of flavors. I also really liked the inclusion of a ssam/poke wrap, which added a refreshing touch. Unfortunately, the AYCE experience didn't meet expectations and was pretty mid. The carpaccio was overly seasoned with oils and salt/pepper, which overpowered the natural flavors of the fish. Some of the nigiri tasted almost room temperature rather than properly chilled, which was disappointing, especially since it was a warmer day and the restaurant felt a bit stuffy. Our server tried to explain how to order as best as they can as you're seated. But, the ordering system seemed a bit complicated, with limitations on quantity/what to order and ordering both on paper and through your phone. Interestingly, our orders were served in reverse, with the most recently ordered items coming out first, and the older items, placed earlier, arriving later. The chicken skewers/izakaya they occasionally brought around were a pleasant surprise. Despite the mid AYCE experience, the value of the Omakase platter alone made the visit worthwhile. Craving for good quality sushi in Brea? X Fish Izakaya is a fantastic spot near Downtown Brea, and one of the things I love about its location is being able to take a relaxing walk in the area after a big meal. The experience starts strong with the summary of the chefs' impressive backgrounds displayed at the entrance. It really sets the tone for the meal and gave me high expectations. The interior is clean, modern, and inviting, which made it the perfect setting for a cozy yet elevated meal. The service was attentive, and the food came out quickly and fresh. The sushi selection is where it's at, with some standout nigiri that became my favorites: the X Fish Salmon, Bay Scallop, Butter Peppered Shrimp, Yuzu Yellowtail, Sake Salmon, and Bluefin Tuna. Each piece was fresh and well-prepared, with flavors that really stood out. My favorite sides were tempura and shishito peppers. So good! One thing to note is the 20-piece limit per round for sushi, which felt a little restrictive for two people. Kinda had a strange experience at X-Fish. I've been wanting to try X-Fish because everyone I know keeps raving about it. Food: Ordered AYCE. Delicious and fresh pepper salmon, fresh water eel, and yuzu yellowtail - those stood out to me the most. probably would never order the smoked salmon ever again even if it's "premium". There's just no point imo of eating smoked salmon at a sushi restaurant. Delicious complementary chicken skewer. Food came out fast and it was honestly a delicious meal. Loved that their rice ratio to fish is small. Service: Our server was super sweet and nice, let us know if we leave 2 reviews on yelp our 2 drinks would be comp'd but then another server came by and said no, it was only 1 drink comp'd per entire table so that left an unsettling feeling which they later rectified. idk, if you're gonna ask ppl to leave reviews for comp'd drinks, it should be for 1 for 1 imo, or not have mixed messages. Personally I think the food stands up to not need this drink gimmick, so it was strange to ask in the first place. I had high hopes for X-Fish Izakaya given its reputation, but my experience left a lot to be desired. The food itself was tasty when it finally arrived, but the service and overall experience were disappointing. We opted for the all-you-can-eat menu, but the pacing of the food was painfully slow. Each round took far too long to come out, to the point where we spent the last 30 minutes of our allotted 90-minute dining time waiting for the dishes from our third round to arrive. Despite this, when our 90 minutes were up, the staff told us we had to leave our table and suggested we finish our food at the bar instead. I understand that it was a busy night and they needed to turn tables, but this situation wasn't caused by us--it was the restaurant's inefficiency that delayed the service. While I appreciate that the food was good, the lack of organization and the rush to push us out left a sour taste. If you're going to enforce time limits, you need to ensure the service is efficient enough to accommodate them. I recently visited this ayce sushi restaurant and unfortunately had a pretty disappointing experience. While the concept and menu selection were promising, the service really fell short. After placing our second order, we waited over 20 minutes with no sign of our food. We eventually had to flag down a waiter to check on it, only to find out the order had been overlooked. When the food finally arrived, one of my rolls was missing entirely and never ended up coming out. What made things more frustrating was the lack of attentiveness throughout the meal. No one checked in to see if we needed anything, refills, or wanted to place additional orders. For an all-you-can-eat spot where timing and service are key, this really impacted the overall experience. The food itself was decent, but the slow and inattentive service made it hard to fully enjoy. I hope they can improve their organization and customer service, because right now it doesn't match the expectations for an AYCE sushi restaurant that charges 42 bucks per person. read more

We ordered the 20-piece omakase, and I liked that the chef wasn't afraid to get creative. This is definitely not traditional sushi, and that's a good thing. Yuzu and other unexpected touches were worked into several pieces to complement the fish and add some personality without turning every bite into a chemistry experiment. The service was excellent, too. Our chef even threw in a few extra pieces--which I will never object to. Free sushi is one of the few things in life that requires absolutely no convincing. I also love the location. It's close enough that this could become one of those dangerous neighborhood spots where "let's just grab a quick dinner" somehow turns into an omakase and a couple of drinks. Creative sushi, great service, good happy hour, and conveniently close to home. Basically, everything I need to make this a regular stop--and everything my wallet probably didn't need.

This is kind of a staple of sushi rolls and every other place I've visited to order this roll, it's never this terrible. The slice of fish for each roll seemed too dry, as if, again, could be expiring ingredients. The rice...again, tasted awful. Must've just been a really bad day for us to choose but please. Change up your rice or use fresh-made rice that's not a day or 2 old. Baked Green Mussels Ok. So this was the only thing we really enjoyed. This came out last as I feel it needed some time to work on but after eating our rolls, it was such a relief to have something that was flavorful. OVERALL Call it our mistake for not planning ahead on where to eat for that day (Saturday, September 5, 2026 @ 3:20pm) but other than the quality of the food, I highly recommend hiring employees that are competent on attending their customers, not ones who flirt with each other behind the counter and conversate amongst their personal life. If you're going to do that, at least do it where customers can't hear or see. Other than that, I'd reconsider the food quality cause with the inflation of everything, not worth paying for when you can get something similar at the Stater Bros. or Smart & Final sushi section.

The quality is better than an AYCE and the portions tend to be larger. Overall, I had a great meal here that satisfied a sushi craving. Would recommend others to visit.
