My first time here, and I finally tried the volcano and angry bird roll. I'm not sure if I'm just sensitive to scents, but I could smell the sear off the tuna. It also had significantly more rice on it than the other, but I'm guessing it's because it had more tuna on it. It wasn't as tasty as the other roll I ordered. Overall, I think I prefer Chubby Sushi across the street more. But, they do package everything nicely. They only gave one ginger for the 2 rolls, but it was in a bigger container. If you take food to-go, be careful because things can get smushed in transit. I think it's okay as a sushi place, and it's definitely got an aesthetic from the outside. However, it doesn't really win me over, so maybe I'd have to try some of their other rolls. I'm so glad I chose this location instead of Buena Park because the service was so amazing! My friends and I decided to do the Signature Menu ($39.99) and it came with 3 rounds, 10 piece per person each round. There is a section of certain orders you can only order once a round so make sure to keep an eye on that when ordering. Other items and rolls can be ordered on your phone through a or code directed to a website and it includes items like the Spicy Garlic Edamame, Hand Rolls, and Tempuras. My favorites were the Sake Salmon, Hon Maguro Bluefin Tuna, and Unagi Freshwater Eel. We paired our meal with a bottle of Cass and Miso Soup to wash down. The salmon was not fishy at all and was buttery where it melts in your mouth. The rice to fish ratio was perfection where I didn't feel like we got ripped off at all. I've heard many good things about this place and I understand why! We were luckily enough to come on a day that wasn't too crowded and got seared immediately. The chairs imo, were too high for the table, I felt like I was hovering over the food, idk if that makes sense but something I noticed immediately after sitting. The menu system is a bit confusing. There's a paper menu and one you place online via QR code. For the paper menu, we were limited to 20 pieces of nigiri at a time. This wasn't a huge deal since it was only 2 of us, but I can see how that can become frustrating with larger groups especially since there's only 3 rounds, unless the limit increases with group size. The online ordering system only allowed you to order 2 appetizers at a time. I love me some baked mussels and unfortunately 1 order = 1 baked mussels which means we were only able to order 2 mussels at a time and then have to wait until our 5 minute wait period is over before placing another order. This is the first sushi restaurant that I been to that had this small of a limit... They also limited you on the carpaccio order but that was expected. Aside from the menu and ordering frustration, I think their food and service is great. Their fish tasted very high quality and the fish to rice ratio was spot on! They had many different options of nigiri to try, so we definitely got to try a little of everything. There was only 1 item we didn't like and our server was kind enough to remove it from our bill. During our meal there was someone who i assumed was newer to the restaurant and the person training or teaching them was really loud and kind of rude pointing and touching all the tables trying to teach the new person the layout. I understand training but I don't think it was a good idea to do it in front of full tables of guests. or maybe have a map of the tables near the kitchen for them to review but training very very loudly and disturbing others guests just did not sit well. Service was good and quick ~ never had to wait long to place new ayce rounds, arrived around 3pm on a Saturday for a party of 4 and no wait. Interior is really clean and nice decor. We did the $42 ayce standard and it was very good. Probably my favorite ayce sushi places. They have a huge menu of nigiri, carpaccio, appetizers, ramen, rolls with a handful of rice less rolls (we liked the Sakura roll). Sushi quality was great! My girls took me here for an early birthday celebration. We kept checking Yelp waitlist in the app cause it was a Friday night but the app kept saying no wait. When we got there, there was a waitlist and it was like 30 minutes. Kinda bummed they didn't just keep the app waitlist on. In any case, it didn't seem like it took 30 minutes which was great. We got seated and all seemed well or so we thought. The wait for food or any kind of service was horrendous. Like constantly having to ask for refills and then ask again cause the first server forgot. I legit saw some other table just get up and get their own pitcher of water to serve themselves cause they waited so long. The food also took forever to come out. When it did, it was good but definitely not worth the wait. It wasn't anything special. They also got one of my rolls wrong which took forever to come out in the first place and then forever to fix. There's also limits in the app for the hot foods, apps and rolls. I get limits but like limiting one tempura item per table or one single mussel per person seemed so extra. Oh and the yakitori comes by tre pas but like it rarely comes out and sometimes they skip your table so we legit only got two skewers our whole time there. The tempura all had a floury aftertaste so it wasn't light and authentic like it's supposed to be. The place is very modern so don't expect comfy seats, they were all wooden with no cushions. It did look clean in there though. All in all, I wouldn't come again cause of the service. Food was fine but if I'm gonna pay for ayce and then wait forever for food, it's really not worth it. Iykyk. There was no dessert and lots of extra charges for things off menu, more so than most ayce places. We did the lunch signature $41.99 pp My friends have been raving at how affordable and delish the fish here is esp the toro but I had one order of it and I did not want another order off the menu at all. Sushi is delicious! Our favorite is smoked salmon, the giant scallops, yuzu yellowtail and Cajun tuna. We enjoyed everything but the tri peppered sushi, they were mildly flavored and underwhelming. The first two rounds of our order arrived quickly but the third time we had to get the servers attention to pick up the order sheet (I noticed another table had to do the same) staff passed by our table multiple times and didn't pick it up. This time the sushi took a long time to arrive, it pushed us to the 90 minute time limit. I appreciated one staff member coming by and giving grilled chicken skewer sample (very good!) The restaurant is round shaped and the acoustics inside is awful. It's very noisy and it's difficult to hear the staff. The chairs scrape on the floor. Also the table tops have water damage from the ice water glass condensations, coasters would help. The restrooms were ghetto. One of the women's sink was out of order, one of the stalls was out of toilet paper but the big roll was precariously hanging from the stall door hook and it fell and rolled on the floor. Tried this for dinner on a Thursday around 6 pm with a party of 2. We were seated right away, but heads up, they won't seat you until everyone in your party arrives. It's located in a big shopping center with Ralph's and Home Goods. I'd recommend parking in the open lots since it's much easier to find a spot than using the structure next to X-Fish. We went with the Omakase and spent about $60 each including tip. Food was good with a nice variety, including tonkotsu, sushi (of course), and a chicken BBQ skewer. The seafood quality was solid, although u had just gotten back from Japan, so it's hard not to compare. We wanted to try some of their wines, but they only sold it by the bottle, which was more than we wanted. Taking off 1 star because it was very loud inside. I think it's the way the space is built - everyone's voices seem to echo. Overall, good food and decent value, just not the best place if you're looking to have conversation over dinner. read more

It's almost $45 a person and it's supposedly renowned but call me picky it's just not worth the hype or cost. Wait times can be extensive due to the popularity. You're limited to 3 rounds (20 pieces each) of nigiri. You're also limited to 2 rolls and 2 appetizers or something absurd for the online menu and have to wait in between to order more. Quality of fish is ok compared to other places I've had, but for the cost it's nothing spectacular. Overall, it's better AYCE than other places I've been, but it's on the higher cost end for AYCE. X-Fish is just okay now. This is our go-to spot whenever we want to eat AYCE sushi, we either go to this location or the Buena Park location. Both are the same as far as price, service, and quality. I do find that after ordering the 1st round of sushi, the 2nd round and so on usually take a while to come by. Not sure if that's intentional or if it just happens to be busy as the day progresses. To get your moneys worth definitely stick to ordering to their paper menu (sushi bar) Nigiri is only 10 per person for each round though and everything else on that menu is limited per round. Rolls are okay here too, it's a hit or miss. One time we ordered the BP roll and spit it out because it tasted rancid and when we complained they said it could just have had a higher level of mercury because they prepare the batches in bulk every morning. The ramen/udon are also just okay. Like I said, I do frequent both locations often because they have really good seared salmon! (Tri-peppered salmon) read more

My family and I happened to try this Brea location of X-Fish Izakaya by chance and it has been one of our favorite finds of the summer. The service is always friendly and attentive. The restaurant is laid out nicely and always clean when we visit. The sushi is also tasty and fresh. X-Fish Izakaya is probably one of our favorite AYCE sushi spots in the area. Located in Downtown Brea, X-Fish Izakaya is situated in an area with several shops and restaurants. There aren't any parking spots directly in front of the restaurant, however, the Downtown Brea area has free parking garages, one of which is very close to the establishment. Their menu offers several options, mainly sushi, but also a good amount of kitchen items and ramen selections. Some of my favorite items include the: - Bluefin Tuna - Tri Peppered Salmon - Truffle Salmon Roll - Salmon Lover Roll Flavor is perfect for all of these items and the freshness and quality, especially for it being AYCE, is on point. If you're thinking about giving this Brea location of X-Fish Izakaya a try, definitely do it. Sadly you can only get some premium items once so make sure you get those! I also really liked spicy scallop and yellowtail. The eel also surprisingly wasn't boney and delicious. Their rolls were also really good but super filling. Def recommend trying their baked scallop or crawfish rolls. APPS Their miso soup and garlic edamame were perfect to refresh your palettes. There's not much room to sit and wait for your table to be ready, but you can walk around the nearby shops. There's a QR code menu that you can order from and your server gives you a paper to write down how many pieces of sushi you want.
