X'Core is a great spot for a Pilates/Lagree-style workout. The instructors are very consistent and every class delivers a solid, challenging workout. It's a perfect addition to my weekly split and always manages to remind me of muscles I either haven't used in a while or forgot existed haha. The instructors are motivating and keep the class moving at a good pace while still making sure form is correct. I also book through ClassPass and have found it to be really reliable for getting into classes here. I've been going to X-Core in San Anselmo ever since I moved to the area, and it's quickly become one of my favorite places to work out. The machines are all new and glide really smoothly, which makes the workouts feel great even when they're tough. Every class I've taken so far has been challenging, but in the best way possible--definitely leaves you feeling stronger. The location is really nice, kind of tucked away in a peaceful spot. Parking is the only thing worth mentioning: if you park on the street right outside, you do have to pay, but the lot directly next to the studio is free, and there's also a big lot across the street, so it usually works out fine. As for the classes, I appreciate that some instructors will correct your form if you're not quite in the right position or could enhance it. Not every teacher does it, but the ones who do are probably helping in the long run--it keeps you from getting hurt and makes sure you're getting the most out of the workout. Overall, X-Core has been such a great spot since moving here. Highly recommend it if you're looking for something challenging but supportive! read more

What a great place to take a Pilates class for the first time! I took the very basic course, which is an introduction to Pilates (definitely recommend it if it's your first time using the reformer Pilates machine). It involved a ton of stretching and was a very easygoing workout. This place is very well maintained and super clean! You're given a wipe toward the end of the session to clean down your machine, which I loved! It really shows much X Core care about keep the place sanitized. I'd say try it out and see if you enjoy a relaxing workout as much as I did! read more

The machines are more bio-mechanically friendly, (and so much more functional than others in my opinion). It's a spacious studio with an inviting, calm and motivating environment. This is a great reformer workout class! Fast-paced, but not too complicated to catch onto. The 45 minutes flies by. My only complaint is that the instructors are always switching and generally speaking don't give personalized support, so you kind of just have to look around the room and hope you're doing it right based on what others are doing? My daughter has been trying to get me to try Pilates for years but I was scared. The machines looked intimidating and I don't look like the dedicated "Pilates babes" you see in the promos. Fast forward to my first class a couple of months ago led by Elaine. Elaine was so friendly and helpful that, even though I could barely get through my first class, I didn't break my neck or feel too stupid so I was willing to try class #2! I love that the basics classes are accessible for everyone--even the most inexperienced or out of shape. At the end of each class, I feel stronger and more confident. After 20+ classes, I can say that every instructor I've tried has been great. Ginny, Marin, Abby, Elaine, and others are so encouraging and motivate me to keep going. My first experience with Pilates and it was great! I was really intrigued what pilates was like after hearing great things from my friends that got into pilates in their respective cities. So I researched for places that looked beginner friendly nearby. I came across XCore on Yelp, saw the reviews and a class time that works for me and my coworkers. Their website was really helpful to know what to expect, bring, and class that was best suited for your level. PILATES WORKOUT: XBurn Basics with Elaine! I created an account online, purchased the newbie deal ($30 for 2 classes and 1 pair of grip socks) and then registered for the class in advance. Coworkers and I arrived ~10 minutes early to check-in, get a tutorial of the megaformer, and settled in. It's 40 minutes of slow and controlled workout that involves variations of planks, lounges, etc. The first time, it look us some time in between transitions to look around to figure what we're suppose to do and we all felt much better when we went the second time. So if you're feeling lost on your first time, that's normal! I would definitely come back to continue to take more classes at XCore! LOCATION: Downtown San Rafael. I'm so excited about pilates at X'Core. I had never done a pilates class on the machines before. Before class, Maren helped me pick out grippy socks and showed me how to use the machine with a few demonstrations. Throughout class, she patiently repeated instructions and gave me great cues to adjust my alignment. My favorite part of class was at the beginning when Maren asked everyone's name. Everyone smiled and laughed throughout class and cheered each other on. After class I stayed to chat with the other women and left the class feeling like I had some new friends. My favorite Oakland Pilates studio is making a new home in San Rafael. X-Core is a Lagree style Pilates studio, performed on a Megaformer. The classes focus on slow controlled movements to work multiple muscle groups at once. It is consistently one of the hardest and most rewarding workouts I've ever done. Being a competitive person (against myself) each class is a new challenge, and I've thoroughly enjoyed seeing my progress from week to week. Being new-ish to San Rafael it has been so nice meeting other attendees, and feeling a sense of community. The San Rafael studio is amazing, with easy parking. I love X'Core SA. I'm fairly new to reformer pilates and have been on a mission to find a studio that fits me. After trying out various studios in Marin, X'Core is one I come back to the most. I was so happy when this studio opened a few months ago. I had taken a 3+ year hiatus from Pilates and did not hesitate to take a class here and it did not disappoint. I've been going regularly 3 or more times a week since. The teachers are all really good with slightly different styles. You get a full body workout in 40 minutes and if a move feels hard, you know you'll be moving to the next one 1 - 2 minutes later. I've really struggled to get back into shape after three kids, work, and the pandemic. This has been particularly dejecting as a former college athlete with an identity wrapped up in strength and capability. I tried X CORE on a whim after failing at consistency in everything else. The 40 minute classes, early morning options, great instructors, help through the sign up process, and accountability/planning through pre-booking have been a game changer for me. I signed up for the Marin Newbie special and I've taken almost 20 classes in three weeks. I can feel my muscles coming back to life, and I'm finally starting to feel like myself again. This weekend I ran for the first time in years, and my body felt so much more equipped for it. I finally got to try the new X-Core studio in San Rafael and it is everything it's cracked up to be. The instructor was super welcoming and warm. She gave me a full rundown of the machine and was able to adjust and guide me through the process. The Lagree method is no joke, I was sweating from the start and used muscles I had forgotten I had.
