I remember going to Cost Plus with my sister when I was a kid. It was always a fun, exotic experience. There was Pier One & there was Cost Plus - Pier One was the more corporate experience option. Then Cost Plus grew up. Some changes were immediate, some took a long time. I think it comes down to how I feel when I think of going there, specifically the one in Brea. This isn't a grocery store - why do we have to pay for bags? I'm buying bottles of wine & dishes, picture frames - if I buy dishes and home decor at Macy's, I'm not required to buy a bag. It was always part of my Christmas tradition to make Cost Plus my first stop for gifts - but a couple of Christmases ago, I bought a whole cart full of wine & food gifts. I was not allowed to take the cart to my car, I had to leave the cart in the store and trust that the employee helping me wouldn't be pulled away by time I brought my car around. And it was raining by the way. Once upon a time, the store would reward members with a $10.00 birthday gift. That got changed to a discount. So every once in a while I get a text message telling me about a promotion and I used to enjoy getting those messages. Now I just delete them. read more

Love Love Love World Market in Brea! Staff are always super friendly and the store is never unorganized. From my favorite Maltesers chocolate to all flavors of Buldak ramen in different levels of spiciness - World Market carries it all! Definitely a one stop shop for all things from different parts of the world - I am truly in awe of this place. Came here while waiting on a food order and ended up finding some delicious international treats to take home. WM is a semi fancy place where I have bought some very nice furniture in the past. This store is super organized and has quite the variety of home goods, furniture and treats that you won't find anywhere else. I would say that the only downside is that the pricing is up, primarily due to import taxes. Otherwise, great place to shop. read more

Review 40/365 Challenge Came here on a Thursday morning with my kids @ 9:55 a.m. we were the 2nd in line. Brought my kids to find the "Golden Egg" Easter event for a Spring Break Activity. Came here b4 during the holidays for the "Golden Unicorn" Holiday Event. I had no luck than but my friend got lucky. We got in and were able to find the 4th egg within 4 mins and all of the other 3 eggs were claimed found by 10:08 a.m. Got a $ 50 voucher for our winnings. Love WM. They have almost everything in their store. From patio furniture, to decor, different food around the world and snacks. My kids were so excited with the varieties of candy snacks. 12-23-2025 This is definitely still one of my favorite stores to shop around since it's international. I was looking for the thick Icelandic chocolates, but they're not here this year. Last year, I picked two out, and they had more stock...but I might have gone shopping for them earlier. They have the Sirius brand for Icelandic chocolates, and I am always happy to see Chuao. Otherly is one I have been meaning to try. The vegan Korean noodles are a little over $2, which isn't the cheapest I can get them. But, they are also a staple of mines. The line is kind of long, but not unbearable. I also noticed their gift card designs at the checkout line. I recently purchased one for $50 at Albertsons, but it was yellow. Crazy customer service experience today and from the "manager" Marcy. I wanted to return some chocolate that was bad. She said they can't take it back if it's opened and eaten. I said I took one bite of it and it's bad. I then said this is the only store where I've been told I can't return bad food. She says something to the effect of.. "oh so you've done this before or you do this often". I was shocked!!!! I said if I'm spending hard earned money and the product is bad, of course I'm gonna return product. while I'm saying all this, she's talking over me to the gal at register. I looked at the girl working the register and said wow, I've never had a manager talk like that to me......Rude, all this in front of my child, the registrar gal and the customers in line. The girl working the registrar, seemed she's a new hire, poor thing, at least she was able to see in real time how NOT to treat customers. I see Marcy had another complaint for her attitude on here. I can only imagine the encounters that don't get posted here. She needs to go back to training for respectful and good customer service. read more

The Global Food Market section is always my favorite spot and Brea location has more items compared with other OC locations I have been to. The store is filled with everything from home décor, furniture, and dishware to snacks and foods from around the world. It was fun wandering through the different sections, and if I hadn't had another lunch engagement, I could have easily spent another 30-60 minutes browsing. The only downside was that some areas felt tightly arranged, making it a little tricky to navigate around other customers without worrying about bumping into items. The manager Marcy is super rude. Bad experience. We find a dinning table and try to figure out if it could be fitted to our car but she won't let us have time to decide and told us no one could help us. We need to take it out by ourselves. She even yell at us in front of the people to push us decide because she said she will let people take the break time. 10 am in the morning. They just opened at 9:00 am. read more

I just love this store they used to sell their own Holiday coffee but I haven't seen it in a while. The red velvet was my favorite and they also had a chocolate flavor that was so good!! This is one of my favorite stores around, they have amazing treats and candy from all around the world. It's amazing, I will take pictures I ran in really quickly today. But they also have drinks I used to buy as a kid too. It's a very nostalgic kind of a store with unique household items you can also buy. I was excited to check out this store, but the staff ruined my experience. I saw the employees keeping an eye on my partner and I. I was ready to spend, but decided not too. I won't give my money to a place that thinks i'm going to steal from them, I had 2 employees follow me around and act like they were checking out the items on the shelves or aisles. Sure, I don't fit in with the category of the people shopping there, but why not give others a chance. I felt uncomfortable and won't go back. We enjoy coming to this store - it's conveniently located near Home Goods, so we like to drop in both stores and they have always welcomed us bringing in our well behaved pup. *Both Home Goods and World Market have both been very dog friendly. That is until this past weekend. After going to HG, we entered the World Market store and were looking at the sign with info on the Golden Unicorn promotion. Then all of a sudden, their sales associate (we were told that her name was Kathleen) sternly and loudly stated that "dogs were not allowed in their store!!" She not only startled us, but she got the attention of other shoppers in the area. One of the ladies that was standing next to us shrugged her shoulder and told us that really wasn't necessary. It really bothered us that she spoke to us like that! First of all, we have never been told that and we've brought our dog in several times. Secondly, how dare her to speak to us like that!! Maybe she's past due for a customer service refresher course. She has no business speaking to anyone like she did, then she just froze in her tracks and stared at us with her intense eyes. *Just for the record ... when we went back, she was not there, so we asked other associates about her and asked them what her name was - and it was very interesting that they knew right away exactly who we were talking about. So I'm going to guess that this isn't the first time she has spoken to your customers like this. Also, when we came back into the store later and there were two dogs in the store. Hmmmm... I've been here several times over the years. I've never bought any furniture from here cause it's a bit pricey, but once I have my own place I'll keep them in mind. I usually come here for their chocolates or jams. They used to have this mini shortbread tart crust that I really really liked, but now they don't have it anymore which makes me a bit sad. Called 4X to track and inquire about my missing items. No one could assist me nor locate my missing items. Just received an email stating that my order was canceled. Weird. I didn't cancel it. Love World Market, I buy a lot of groceries and home goods here as well. I do quite a bit of Italian cooking and baking and I love that I can find quality pastas, Italian Olive Oil, Balsamic Vinegar and canned tomatoes as well as Passata. I can find these things at the Italian market but it's a bit of trek from my house to get there so World Market is definitely more convenient. Not to mention that Cost Plus has much more affordable pricing than the Italian Market. Seriously, The low prices on these products are unreal! Just had a very unpleasant interaction with "Rosie" who claimed to be a manager but had the attitude of someone who dislikes their job. I went to the store to process a refund on an item that I purchased online. She took the item back, wrote down my name, order number and email and told me to expect a refund in 2-3 days. She refused to process the refund and also to give me a receipt or any evidence that I had returned the item. When you are dropping of a $250 item and not getting anything to prove that it was returned, it doesn't exactly feel like a trustworthy transaction. I've spent well over $1400 in this store in the last 3 months but I'm pretty sure I won't be returning here again. Such a disappointment to get such customer service. read more

I always love coming to the World Market. I love the selection of alcohol and unique products from around the world that I can't find anywhere else. Right now they have a fun scavenger hunt game going on at all store locations. I won $20 by finding a "golden sleigh" hidden in the store by using the secret hint found on their website. July 2019 We been here several times but this is the first experience i had where an associate truly made the effort to answer my questions. We saw that many to all the items had a price tag with two distinct prices one for members only and one for retail cost. The associate help assist on how to create a FREE MEMBERSHIP to receive the discount on the items while occurring points. The team member was restocking wine today July 10,2019 (@6/7PM). Associates like this that already have a busy task restocking floor to assist a customer on any questions and concerns will keep this location as my go to store for exotic items, fine wine, great conversational pieces. read more

Horrible experience here in the Brea store. The employees have terrible customer service. I had called and spoke to Rose or Rosie and asked if they had an item in stock and they did. I asked if they can put several of them on hold and I would be there to pick up because we live an hour away. I was so excited to pick up so when I got there I went to the front and they checked in the back and in front and it wasn't there. They said oh she probably sold it to someone else. I was so upset because I drove far for it and they had no empathy or customer service on how to handle anything. They said yea she sold it before you came and were so rude about it. She wouldn't give me her name but she was the cashier up front. Since I'm not able to describe the woman here on yelp, all I can say was she did not exhibit the "customer comes first" theory. Cost Plus is always a fun place to shop and always my go-to when trying to find worldly treats that I'm missing from previous travels. From candy to pastas, snacks, and beer, they have everything conveniently grouped by country so it's easy to navigate. Also, be sure to check out their ground coffee and tea selections, they're awesome. Going during the holidays is fun because they have a lot of unique items that you can't find at any of the other big-box retailers. They're high quality without breaking the bank. And if you have someone that likes wine on your gift list, their selection is nothing to scoff at while still being moderately priced. They have some nice, sturdy pieces of furniture and dishware too. For bigger items, you'll have to work with a third-party to get it to your house or be prepared to come with at truck. The store is always clean and neatly organized and the staff is friendly. Due to the pandemic, their operating hours are limited, so it's definitely more of a struggle to get there during the week.
