Food, ambiance, and service = straight fire! Chicken n Waffles were delicious. Had to go training wheels because I'm a weenie-- but still flavorful, crispy, and juicy! Yum! Colleague got the El Guapo and it was delicious too. Crazy big portion! Plus crispy Diet Coke! 10/10
We had an amazing experience at World Famous Hotboys in Carmel! Our server, Lilly, was absolutely fantastic and made our visit even better with her friendly and attentive service. We tried the Biggest Potato on the Planet, the sliders, and the fried mozzarella, and every single item was incredible. Everything came out perfectly and was packed with flavor. The atmosphere is awesome too! The restaurant is decorated with a fun, unique vibe, the 90's music brings back all the nostalgia, and they have a great bar along with lots of nightly events that make it more than just a place to eat. Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. We'll definitely be back, and I highly recommend checking it out for yourself!
I am so late to the party, but I finally tried this place for the first time and wow, it completely exceeded my expectations! I ordered the mild tenders with greens on the side, and can we talk about those greens? I wasn't expecting so much flavor. Plus, they tasted just like a home-cooked meal. The tenders were fantastic too, and the mild had more of a kick than I anticipated..maybe that's just how dry rub works? Either way, everything was delicious! Also..get the bonuts (fried donuts) for dessert and thank me later! I didn't dine in, but they do have ample inside seating as well as a few patio tables. I can't wait to come back!
First time going and I was pretty excited. The decor can be a but trippy, but i enjoyed it. Plenty of tables for a big crowd to sit in. I came in for drinks but ended up getting the catfish meal without any seasoning, which was really good. The fried mac n cheese balls were fantastic. The service was good and the lemon drop martini was delish. I would definitely come back to try their chicken. There were also plenty of tvs and games being played. While we were leaving out, around 9, the lights were dimmed and i believe they were gonna start love jones cafe, which I also want to come back for. This would be a good place for karaoke if they offer it. Enjoyed it and would come back.
Food and Drink: I went to Hotboys on January 5th for a fraternity event, and it was so good, I went back a second time the next day! On my first visit, I had the tender meal (Medium+ spice) with the fries. The tenders were seasoned well, spicy as expected, and were larger than what I remember. I was full after eating two of them. The fries were fresh and hot and were also seasoned well - pair them with ranch and *chef's kiss*. The next day, I had the same meal to-go, but had greens instead of fries. Hands down....the best greens I've had in Indianapolis. These are the greens you want at Thanksgiving! The spice level was great, it had flavor, and I finished my cup wanting more of it! A wonderful surprise for sure. Customer Service: Based on the fraternity event, customer service was pushed to the limit. The staff remained polite and stayed busy. They did their best to find customers that had ordered food while navigating the crowd. Very professional and flexible. They are appreciated for their multitasking and hard work! Ambiance: The ambiance from the graffiti wall to the party light vibes on the inside is top tier. Outside of being s great restaurant, this was a welcoming party place with the food and drinks to match. They have a patio area for smoking and the party filled up the inside and easily spread outside to the patio. This place was perfect for the fraternity event and I can guarantee the vibes would be right for a sports watching night with the fellas, or just wanting a good lunch. And shoutout to the DJ that kept the music going all night. Highly recommend!!
Food: Man I hadn't been here in almost 3 years when I visited the Fountain Square location. I decided on a whim to go and MY GOODNESS! It was SO GOOD I went back to back days for lunch. The chicken on the sandwich was flavored to perfection and still so juicy. Fries were seasoned perfectly. That etouffe on the side was *chef's kiss*. It was so good that my leftovers were still the day after. The second day I got the salad and it was so fresh yet so filling Service: Everyone was so attentive and kind despite being pretty busy for the lunch hour. They're polite and personable. Ambiance: I love it! The decorations and vibes are immaculate. There's a bar area with many TVs. There's an outside area with a fire pit. Variety of seating options. Volume was good, even with a good number of people in the building. 11/10
We came here for a bourbon tasting event that was happening and had such a nice time :) I enjoyed trying some new bourbons and learning more about the spirit. After that we sat at the bar for a cocktail and a meal. I really love the chicken, but even the mild is SO spicy. (Don't come if you hate spice.) The aesthetic here is awesome - so fun and chaotic! Good for families, dates, guys night, or a solo date.
I was so excited to try these wings. Then I got my to-go order after waiting 20mins. The bartender Lee was helpful but I was the only one in the restaurant. So she had time to explain all the wing choices and their concept! Thank goodness for her otherwise i would have just been picking blind. So whoever said they are just like Dave's nashville chicken. Correct, expect for they got along way to go!!!!! Alright so let's get to the chicken wings for the price and yes i know everything is extra expensive nowadays not impressed as some that loves to cook. I DO NOT understand when a business doesn't want to give the consumer what they want. I order Memphis style and Mild plus. All are dry rubs again no complaints there but when I got to the car and opened my box, I could see the wings were like over coated in these spices lol said no person of color ever but today they were! I was happy to see it would have flavor but the cook in me was like what happened in the kitchen this is clearly too much seasoning to where I had to wait to get home and scrap off the seasoning. I mean the cooks have to know that can't be flavorful at that point. I am all for flavor but when you overly season and on purpose is crazy these rubs have salt in them so they are just too salt for you to cake them on the wings!!! I was surprised by all the reviews I read but there are a few real ones that kept it 100! This place is a no for wings but maybe a spot for those events I see they be hosting maybe???? If they would have NOT over seasoned the wings I would have give a 3 or 4 stars. I am not a sauce girly but I didn't care for their house sauce ketchup based or cajun ranch. The regular ranch was decent.
If I need take out on a Friday, one way I treat myself is getting the catfish sandwich. Yes they are all about the chicken but when I discovered the Fridays only fish sandwich it quickly became my go to. I'm normally a French fry purest but their heavily seasoned crinkle fries are yummy. Always a festive spirit in the dining room while I wait for my food. There is a live music some nights and when it's warmer they have a huge patio. The service is always great. I'm ok with waiting a minute for food that is made to order. They have lots of spice levels but I stick with the Southern no heat if I can. As long as you're into Cajun seasoning you will find something you like on their menu although I will say the vegetarian/gluten free options are limited.

This is their 2nd Indianapolis location and it is a great place for hot chicken and beer. They have a big outdoor patio which is also dog-friendly. When they say 'hot' L, they mean it. I stick with the medium-hot and it's still pretty damn spicy (and I like spicy). I've had the extreme hot before, and it's truly for the hotheads.
My 1st time trying this place with some friends who have been raving over it for months. I'm always a bit skeptical of new places that I haven't heard of but this was a pleasant surprise to my senses The restaurant is very colorful and interesting, lots of stickers and graffiti type covered walls. It has a small bar and a stage for performances on certain days. There is also a small outside area to eat. Seems like a lot of locals come here for togo orders. They have a full service section for dining in or you can place your order and eat on the opposite side with no waitstaff. Now let's get to the food shall we. I had the swamp fries which consisted of fries covered with greens, chicken plus Mac n cheese. It was waaaay better than I expected. A total flavor explosion and a good size portion. Greens were a little spicy but very tasty. My wife had chicken and waffles which consisted of two fluffy waffles that tasted like a funnel cake and 4 nice size wings. Very tasty, didn't even need syrup or sauces. Our other friend got chicken tenders which were huge and came with fries and Texas toast. Cooked perfectly and very flavorful. They have several different flavors of sauces you can get them in as well. I will definitely be back and if you are ever in the area don't hesitate to give Hot boys a try. Thank me later!
We got carryout & it was still delectable once I got to the house. Food was ready for me when I got there so it was a quick in & out. Fries not soggy, flavor smacked, & wrap bigger than my head. 10/10.

I always look forward to World Famous Hotboys! The service is great and the food is even better. It's a fun atmosphere. Very colorful and lots to look at. Today I had the baked potato. It's huge and delicious covered in Mac n cheese. Ordered the chicken on the side so I could take the leftovers to go without it getting soggy. They have really good happy hour specials and a variety of different events throughout the week. It's a great place to bring and entertain friends and family from out of town or anyone who loves a spicy chicken sandwich. The sides are yummy too. read more

Hotboys is super fun on Tuesday nights! It's Trivia Night and the kids eat free. We went with a group of friends and had a blast starting with trying almost everything on the menu, $4.50 well drinks and nightly beer specials. Aaron, the owner, came over to the table and told us how Hotboys originated with his brothers in California. He has an amazing story and we're glad he opened this restaurant in Carmel as we have become regulars. I tried the Guap fries which was a generous portion of Fries and chicken covered with a cheesy spicy sauce. There was so much food, that I took half of it home. Our friends had the Ettoufee and loved it. I think they make the best collard greens in town. Trivia was fun and low key. We actually came in third place! We'll be back! read more
Food: must say the food was good and very tasty . The fries was well seasoned. Came with a signature dipping sauce. I got the sando sandwich which was spicy but not too spicy. You can adjust the spice level. Service: friendly staff and food came quick Ambiance : went in the middle of the day. Wasn't busy at all. Love the aesthetic of the restaurant. Very cool figure and reminded me of cali culture. Price: affordable about the same prices any other burger joint. Will be back to try other items in the menu . Overall a 9.5 out of 10 read more
This review is a little late as it was on December 13th. Husband and I ordered two meals and there was a small mishap, however, the manager Jared was very helpful and caring of the incident and made it up to us by fixing the order and by giving us a couple of extra items to go with it. The donuts we were given to try were amazing. I would recommend everyone to try one. I would say I'm not the biggest fan of chicken in general, however, this has to be the best chicken I've ever tried. read more

I have been to the location in Fountain Square and they both are colorful and serve a lot of chicken dishes, but this one is much bigger. They have an out door patio, a huge dining area and a bar with seating. You will also find a stage in here and a bunch of televisions all over the dining/bar area. Most of the televisions had sports playing. The bar was a full bar and had beer, wine and cocktails. The dining area is decorated with colorful flags, banners and mural. It has a hip and trendy vibe. The patio had a fire pit but there were no chairs out there. That may have been because it was the middle of January. The restaurant has very friendly staff and they serve chicken tenders, chicken wings, chicken sandwiches (sando), and assortment of fries, and chicken and waffles. They also have some sides and a few breakfast items on the menu. You can get your chicken with different levels of heat ranging from Mild to Hot Hot. I heard that Hot is very, very spicy. I ordered the chicken tender meal, with medium heat and a side of fries. My food was ready in about 5 minutes and it was fresh, hot and delicious. I like the seasoning, which they also put on the fries. It was sweet and tangy with a little heat to let you know that it was there. There was a lot of food, but I managed to put it all down. I highly recommend checking this place out. They have top notch service, a fun, colorful and trendy atmosphere and some delicious food. read more

I visited this restaurant with my daughters for the Yelp review, but also purchased some meals for them. My oldest ordered a Sando sandwich, medium, with fries and my other daughter ordered the strips, Hot with Mac and Cheese. The oldest enjoyed her Sando sandwich and was impressed with how good the fries were. My other child ordered the Hot chicken strips. We noticed that any spice level above Medium is charged a surcharge depending on level of spicyness. With the hot chicken strips, it was a powdered seasoning that is sprinkled on the chicken that increases the spiciness which was different from "traditional" hot chicken. It was good but a little messy. The mac and cheese was "spicy" but left much to be desired. I think it was too wet and had too much water...it definitely was meh. Overall, the food was ok, but kinda expensive for chicken...but if I had the desire for some spicy chicken sandwich I would pick Hot Boys over Chik-fil-a. read more
Decor reminiscent of the original Indiana location in Fountain Square and great playlists, Hotboys is ready to serve you the best chicken. I'm partial to the tenders and get mild plus. I like they have a wide range of spice levels. This location had some additional items that my husband had to try. The Mac and cheese baked potato with chicken is HUGE! TL;DR. Great plain chicken tenders. Watch out for up charges on hot-hot, sauces and other items. I am not sure what this place is world famous for, maybe the atmosphere. We had a party 5 , seated in the bar with table service. If you don't, you will order when you walk in and food will be brought to you. The server in the bar was impersonal, curt, and rushed all while rocking a mean RBF. (Not a compliment.). The runner handed me the food to distribute for her. My wife and I both ate the Pollo Moco, listed under breakfast, served all day. This was very good. The tender, decently sized, complemented the dish. There was no spice added to the tender. The sage gravy was too thin and tasted light on sausage. I wanted their chicken and waffles but it's served with two wings. A tenders place should use tenders, ATOM. Someone in our group ordered a chicken sandwich hot-hot. He can handle a lot of heat and this didn't disappoint. It made his nose run and eyes water. It's legit! Equally legit was his surprise when he got his bill and was charged $4 extra for hot-hot. We could not find this stated on the menu. We were entertained by the line item on the bill describing the extra charge as a two-day event. Someone else ordered medium heat which was too hot for her. I tasted it and found it hotter than expected; however, I did not care for the spices. To me, it tasted like a cross between Nashville hot and Cajun. For desert, my wife and I got two donuts with a side of chocolate. The donuts are small and good. The chocolate sauce was a $1 extra. Save a buck and don't get any sauce. They have a full bar and serve Coke products. read more
I didn't visit Oakland much back when I lived in the South Bay, but I had heard of Hotboys having some of the best fried chicken sandwiches around. When I saw that they opened a location in Carmel, I decided to try it out on a recent trip to the area. The restaurant has kind of that gritty Oakland vibe, with graffiti-like art plastered all over the walls and a dim interior. When you eat in, you can actually choose whether you would like full service (seated on the other side of the bar) or a more casual counter service experience. We chose the latter and ordered a couple of items: Dark Chicken Meal, Medium Plus ($14) - I normally try to get the Hot spice level from hot chicken places, but after reading the reviews here I decided to tone it down just a bit and I'm glad I did. Even at Medium Plus, the spice level is legit. It starts quite pleasantly sweet, but then morphs into a beast, lighting the mouth on fire with each passing second. It's more spicy than the hot level at other hot chicken places in my opinion. Now the comparison kind of ends there. Firstly, the heat is added by a mixture of dry rub and a generous addition of a dry spice mix rather than hot cayenne oil. The amount of breading lends a nice crunch, but I found it to be a bit excessive - it's actually a little difficult to reach the chicken and it insulates the chicken a bit too much, resulting in meat that isn't particularly tender and kind of gets stuck to the bone. The meat is quite moist and juicy but much more difficult to eat than normal fried chicken due to the texture and stick factor. The chicken is kept skin-on, but thanks again to the thick breading, the fat isn't rendered out all the well, resulting in a somewhat rubbery texture. Overall, the bone-in chicken is a bit weaker at Hotboys compared to some other places, but it still tastes good. The chicken comes with some tangy but soft, rather than crisp, pickles, and two small cups of house ranch to help mitigate some of the heat levels. It also comes with a side - I chose the greens, which consists of smoky, vinegary, tender collard greens with some pieces of smoked turkey. The broth is actually a bit spicy and you can feel it in your throat as you eat. (4/5) Sando Meal, Mild ($16): The chicken consists of a piece of skinless, deboned chicken thigh that has been breaded and fried. The breading is not as thick compared to their bone in chicken and is perfectly appropriate in my opinion. The chicken itself is tender, but not super moist or on the verge of falling apart. It's topped with coleslaw to help cut down on the heat, as well as pickles, all held together on a fluffy potato bun. For me, at least, the mild is basically not spicy at all - just a small tingle on the tongue so you know they added something, but not enough for any pain. For the side, we got mac and cheese, which was pretty disappointing. The elbows seem to be cooked thirty minutes past al dente, and then are dunked in a cloying cheese sauce that isn't particularly well seasoned. There are small bits of pimento pepper, but they only serve to be a points of visual interest as they do not contribute anything to the taste. On the flip side, the crinkle cut fries that other members of our party got were surprisingly delicious. I personally think that the crinkle cut is inferior as it's typically not cooked very well - either soft and floppy, yet oily at the same time, or fried until coal-like. These, on the other hand, are well crisped with fluffy interiors. They're great unseasoned or seasoned, and are not overly salty. Dipping them into the house ranch is the perfect complement. (4/5) Hotboys certainly serves some really tasty chicken. Next time I'm in the area, I will visit again. World Famous Hotboys is an entire vibe! The food, the decor, the drinks and the service were all great! I love that they added this second location. I ordered a chicken sandwich and Mac and cheese and my friend ordered a chicken sandwich and greens. We split the sides and the ordered fries as well! The greens were my favorite side, so flavorful! Actually everything was full of flavor! Can't wait to come back again! I heard they have live music, could be a fun evening place to visit, they do have a full bar. read more
