    Order at counter

The Happy Chicken is a new chicken place on the corner of 86th and Michigan Road. I was glad to see they were open, as I stopped by yesterday and they were not. They serve a simple menu with chicken as the star of either flatbread, meals or a Mediterranean inspired bowl. The chicken is roasted, not fried. When we stopped at 11:30 for lunch, the chicken was not ready for the plate meals, so we could only order flatbread or the bowl. You order at the counter and the food is ready very quickly. The bowl was huge. The roasted chicken is very tender. The bowl had a ton of yellow rice and some iceberg lettuce. The meal was topped with a huge piece of pita and a sauce that they called Tazhiki, but was really a lemon flavored yogurt. The sauce and rice left me disappointed. The meal was filling. The staff was friendly and quick. There are only 2 tables inside to eat. The tables are wonky, too low for the bar height stools. You have to lean over to reach the food. I think most people order the meals to go, which is a good idea. I would like to see some healthier options (more vegetables) on the menu and more upscale dishes. I would like to try the plate meals, but I think you have to show up later in the day for those to be an option. In and out of the parking lot is challenging. You can really only go north. I drove around the block to get into the parking lot.

I was excited to try it based on the reviews. I went in and the place was quiet, it was about an hour before closing. The employees were friendly and kind. The food seemed a little overpriced, but on the menu it looked yummy. I payed 11$ after tax for my food and I was a little disappointed by it. The size did match the photo and everything was cold, I walked home within about I minutes and by time I opened it the cheese and everything looked cold. The flavor was good but the chicken and cheese had gone cold and dry.I probably won't return but I can see how others might enjoy it!

YOU NEED TO TRY THIS. If I could give it 7 stars, I would. I have broken my Yelp hiatus because this restaurant deserves more traffic and reviews. For anyone that remembers the Happy Chicken in Castleton from years ago, THIS IS THE SAME RESTAURANT!! And it is back better than ever (well just as delicious at least, it is hard to improve on this food). The food is delicious, healthy, and fairly priced. I personally love the bowls, and any chicken you get is seasoned amazingly with a little kick and spice. Everything is baked and the food looks simple but the flavors are not missed. Get ready for a flavor explosion that exceeds your visual expectations. The owner and staff are all super friendly and greet you as you come in. There are two 2-person tables inside, so it is definitely made for grab and go but you could enjoy your meal inside if it isn't busy. I recommend trying to stay once because the owner and staff are very friendly and personable. They do offer catering orders (20/40 wing platters). I can't express how happy this food actually makes me and how ecstatic I am that they decided to reopen again. The fact that people remember this restaurant YEARS after it closed is a testament to the food and culture of the business. This will be my go-to when I have a hankering for some flavor in my life. You can't go wrong here. Thank you Happy Chicken for making me happy again P.S. Keep an eye out for salmon and tilapia being added to the menu soon. We were lucky enough to get a sample and O. M. G. Can't wait for this to go live.

Food is good and it's a healthy portion. The chicken is broaster type and combination plate included rice and lettuce on bottom and a slightly dry pita bread on top for eating as wrapper. I liked it... but I think I will just get pieces and side next time

Been going here for years. So happy it reopened. Healthy clean eating with so much flavor. Best wings in town. The sides are outstanding. Also try the chicken bowl, so yummy. Easy place to eat clean with taste and lose weight.

No chicken available at lunch time, grossly overpriced, and no room to sit down! Kind of a dump! Left and went down the street to BW3 .

Light, Dark and naked wings. I will start with sides. The greens, better than I ever had including AL, MS, LA and TN. Slaw was classic LA. Good, I am vinger slaw guy. Now for the chicken. First and foremost the medium is no joke HOT. Anyone can make something hot. But the flavor of the hotness is world class. Whatever they do, (brine whatever) the flavor is deep in the meat, including the breast. Absolutely fantastic. My only advice is if you find a raw jalapeno to hot, go one level down in spice. Unless you can set an eat raw Serranos, don't pay .$50 to go spicier. Who would have thought, amazing hot chicken, Indy.

It honestly hurt to see all that chicken go directly into the garbage, but they claim it was inedible. Since it's not a saucy type of flavoring, but a dry rub, they said that the heat was painful, and not flavorful. Back to the sandwich I enjoyed... I felt that there was a sweetness to the flavor that I liked, which I could see not everyone enjoying. There is also a hot dusting over the french fries which exacerbates any discomfort people are having from the heat. There really wasn't anything to cool it down. The macaroni and cheese was piping hot, although not spicy.

I would've rather grown a chicken, killed it for some wings, made a hat with its feathers and made sensory toys with its eyes The buns were probably the best part. The lettuce was cut smaller than you could ever imagine, the chicken had a good amount but tasted like it was drowned in Franks Red Hot Sauce. The tomato was a tomato This isn't all the restaurant though. The other times I visited here were AMAZING The times I sat in the big room were good because, there were TVs to save my boredom, the built in chargers were neat, and the food was just better! The space is big and fun, with a large dining room, an old-school video arcade game, interesting art, and a big screen playing movies, which adds to the laid-back, quirky vibe. It's counter service with clear menu boards on the wall, making ordering easy. I had the cheesy jalapeño grits with bacon and an egg and... my goodness. So incredibly delicious. One friend ordered the same grits but swapped in fried catfish instead of bacon--also a fantastic choice. Our third went with a classic plate with eggs and bacon, and let me tell you, the bacon is thick and plentiful. We ordered a side of fries for the table and there were more than enough to share. Self-serve coffee with all the fixings is a nice touch, and the service was friendly and welcoming. Fun atmosphere, great food, solid portions--definitely will be back.

We were greeted right away and looked over the menu a bit before ordering. My husband ordered the country breakfast with chicken (definitely the way to go) and I ordered the cheesy jalapeño grits with bacon. We each got a cup for water and I ordered a coffee, excited because I saw ahead of going that it was self-serve (like at Cafe Patachou where I can get as many coffees as I like without having to wait for our server to come check on us first). However, the self serve coffee excitement was short-lived after seeing that they only offered half and half as creamer (I'm lactose intolerant) and the two coffee carafes were not labeled for what was inside (decaf? medium roast? you'll never know!) and then one was completely empty and never refilled during our visit. The water station also was not ever refilled during our visit, so we were not able to get refills after filling up our cups the first time. It took a couple of tries to find a table we could sit at because you seat yourself, but several had not been cleaned after other guests left and had food and drinks spilled on them. There were definitely enough staff members there to be able to clean them in between customers, so we weren't sure why they were left that way. We ended up sitting in the middle of the room towards the front, across from the clown art wall, which made for interesting conversation as we looked through everything. When the food came out I was impressed with the portions, but I had no flavor whatsoever to my cheesy jalepeno grits. The egg and bacon were good, but not enough to make it a good dish and I would not order it again. And I love savory breakfast and grits in general, so it was a real bummer. My husband's dish was worth the visit though. It was a huge portion size and we honestly would just split it if we came back and ordered it. It was so savory, seasoned perfectly, and juicy. One of the best breakfast dishes I have tried recently! I really debated between 3-4 stars for this, but my dish was a flop, the lack of cleanliness for the seating area, the lackluster self-serve coffee station, and not refilling the beverages ultimately scored a 3 star review for me. I would come back and try something else though, or split the country chicken breakfast because it was really good. Hopefully next time the beverages won't be empty!
