    Order at counter

The Happy Chicken is a new chicken place on the corner of 86th and Michigan Road. I was glad to see they were open, as I stopped by yesterday and they were not. They serve a simple menu with chicken as the star of either flatbread, meals or a Mediterranean inspired bowl. The chicken is roasted, not fried. When we stopped at 11:30 for lunch, the chicken was not ready for the plate meals, so we could only order flatbread or the bowl. You order at the counter and the food is ready very quickly. The bowl was huge. The roasted chicken is very tender. The bowl had a ton of yellow rice and some iceberg lettuce. The meal was topped with a huge piece of pita and a sauce that they called Tazhiki, but was really a lemon flavored yogurt. The sauce and rice left me disappointed. The meal was filling. The staff was friendly and quick. There are only 2 tables inside to eat. The tables are wonky, too low for the bar height stools. You have to lean over to reach the food. I think most people order the meals to go, which is a good idea. I would like to see some healthier options (more vegetables) on the menu and more upscale dishes. I would like to try the plate meals, but I think you have to show up later in the day for those to be an option. In and out of the parking lot is challenging. You can really only go north. I drove around the block to get into the parking lot.

I was excited to try it based on the reviews. I went in and the place was quiet, it was about an hour before closing. The employees were friendly and kind. The food seemed a little overpriced, but on the menu it looked yummy. I payed 11$ after tax for my food and I was a little disappointed by it. The size did match the photo and everything was cold, I walked home within about I minutes and by time I opened it the cheese and everything looked cold. The flavor was good but the chicken and cheese had gone cold and dry.I probably won't return but I can see how others might enjoy it!

YOU NEED TO TRY THIS. If I could give it 7 stars, I would. I have broken my Yelp hiatus because this restaurant deserves more traffic and reviews. For anyone that remembers the Happy Chicken in Castleton from years ago, THIS IS THE SAME RESTAURANT!! And it is back better than ever (well just as delicious at least, it is hard to improve on this food). The food is delicious, healthy, and fairly priced. I personally love the bowls, and any chicken you get is seasoned amazingly with a little kick and spice. Everything is baked and the food looks simple but the flavors are not missed. Get ready for a flavor explosion that exceeds your visual expectations. The owner and staff are all super friendly and greet you as you come in. There are two 2-person tables inside, so it is definitely made for grab and go but you could enjoy your meal inside if it isn't busy. I recommend trying to stay once because the owner and staff are very friendly and personable. They do offer catering orders (20/40 wing platters). I can't express how happy this food actually makes me and how ecstatic I am that they decided to reopen again. The fact that people remember this restaurant YEARS after it closed is a testament to the food and culture of the business. This will be my go-to when I have a hankering for some flavor in my life. You can't go wrong here. Thank you Happy Chicken for making me happy again P.S. Keep an eye out for salmon and tilapia being added to the menu soon. We were lucky enough to get a sample and O. M. G. Can't wait for this to go live.

Food is good and it's a healthy portion. The chicken is broaster type and combination plate included rice and lettuce on bottom and a slightly dry pita bread on top for eating as wrapper. I liked it... but I think I will just get pieces and side next time

Been going here for years. So happy it reopened. Healthy clean eating with so much flavor. Best wings in town. The sides are outstanding. Also try the chicken bowl, so yummy. Easy place to eat clean with taste and lose weight.

No chicken available at lunch time, grossly overpriced, and no room to sit down! Kind of a dump! Left and went down the street to BW3 .

The vibe is always casual, don't expect anything too fancy, I always think of it as more of a dive bar but that's what I love about it. Last time I was there was for the IU football championship game and the place was packed, but the service definitely did not lack. Luckily, we were close enough to the bar so that anytime we needed something we were able to just step over and talk to any of the bartenders. We order a pizza and wings as well and as always, they were absolutely delicious. I was seated quickly at the bar and the bartenders at that time were great and punctual and making sure I got a menu and everything else I needed. I definitely appreciated that they weren't constantly approaching me, but they read my cues with knowing when I was ready to order or needed something. I was really pleased with the service that I received. The menu had a mixture of American comfort food as well as classic Southern dishes. I took several glances at the food other were ordering and they all looked so appealing and appetizing. I decided to order something that I haven't tried anywhere else, so I ordered the Southern Shakshuka, which is their own unique spin-off to the original. The meal comprised of a base of creamy cheesy grits topped with a somewhat rich layer of roasted tomatoes and vegetables and poached eggs. OMG it was amazing and so flavorful! The flavor was amazing and the crispness of the chicken was perfect. My family got the half bird with fries. The fries were crisp and soft at the same time. Id return with no hesitation.

I couldn't decide which meal I was trying so I'm definitely going to make another trip sometime soon. I got the tenders with mac but added a side of greens. Boy oh boy the greens were the star and wow my tastebuds were incredibly satisfied. I've had greens but these were like some ultimate flavors and holy greens i definitely could just order some of these every now and again by themselves. Mac was great. Definitely complimented the greens. The tenders though omg. The flavor was insane. I gotta try them with the waffles next time for sure. Overall the wait wasn't long and my food was still hot. I ended up sharing with my son and he was even raving about it. Great service, fun and lit atmosphere, last but not least food was fire. Side note: people complain about price but I'll be honest, when the food is good and staff are amazing, the price to me doesn't matter. You get what you pay for and let's be real, this isn't chic fil a, this is hot boys and the chicken is definitely that.

It honestly hurt to see all that chicken go directly into the garbage, but they claim it was inedible. Since it's not a saucy type of flavoring, but a dry rub, they said that the heat was painful, and not flavorful. Back to the sandwich I enjoyed... I felt that there was a sweetness to the flavor that I liked, which I could see not everyone enjoying. There is also a hot dusting over the french fries which exacerbates any discomfort people are having from the heat. There really wasn't anything to cool it down. The macaroni and cheese was piping hot, although not spicy.

It's counter service with clear menu boards on the wall, making ordering easy. I had the cheesy jalapeño grits with bacon and an egg and... my goodness. So incredibly delicious. One friend ordered the same grits but swapped in fried catfish instead of bacon--also a fantastic choice. Our third went with a classic plate with eggs and bacon, and let me tell you, the bacon is thick and plentiful. We ordered a side of fries for the table and there were more than enough to share. Self-serve coffee with all the fixings is a nice touch, and the service was friendly and welcoming. Fun atmosphere, great food, solid portions--definitely will be back.

My husband and I had never been here before and the lady at the counter was less than friendly. She did tell us the menu was on the other wall. My husband got a Diet Coke that came in a can and we both got a classic plate minus the toast. 2 eggs, 2 sausage patties... nothing special including the presentation. The price for each plate was $18 plus a $2 can of coke and a tip they didn't deserve brought our total to a little over $40. The eggs were flavorless and literally had no seasoning. I did appreciate that the sausage patties weren't greasy. That was about the only good thing. The decor looked like they took whatever thrift stores couldn't sell with no particular theme. Funny enough, we went out for breakfast a few days later to a DIFFERENT PLACE and for the SAME PRICE got way more food, better quality food, better presentation, full table service, friendly service, great atmosphere, and an overall wonderful experience. Overall, I would not recommend this place. We left feeling like we got ripped off and I could have made the same thing better at home.
