I'm usually hesitant ordering French toast out but here, I'll order again. My one critique is that the service could've been better, especially since they weren't crowded. I've lived in the neighborhood for five years now and have passed Woodside Cafe hundreds of times, but I just recently tried it for the first time after a neighbor of ours mentioned how much she likes it. My husband and I were both nursing a hangover, so I ordered the traditional Irish breakfast (nice and light), while he ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with a side salad. I loved my Irish breakfast. The eggs were perfectly cooked; the sausage and bacon and pudding were flavorful and tasty; and I liked that I had the option to get skinny fries and rye toast, which I realize are not traditional. I would come back again for this breakfast alone. My husband didn't love his buffalo chicken sandwich, sadly. He thought the chicken was too thin and dry, and he didn't care for the bread. Oh well. Not to be confused with the nearby Nepalese eatery bearing the same name, this Woodside Cafe is on Woodside Ave just a block over from the 61st St MTA station. Opened by the very folks who started the iconic Sean Og Tavern (#1), they took over an old school Irish diner and tried to make it the most eclectic, family-friendly eatery in the hood. They are a part of the new Woodside dining scene, which is constantly changing with all the gentrification happening in the hood. They have been around for a handful of years at this point, becoming a pseudo destination for a casual bite and a brunch option for the weekends. They did such a good job transforming the space from Rainbow's, that it actually looks more modern than ever. It's a tight squeeze in some of the small booths, but they're certainly more flexible about accommodating larger parties. Bathrooms weren't great during my visits, but that's to be expected. From an Irish fare perspective, there's a lot to appreciate. Their chicken curry has a sweetness to it and is served with some very large chips (#2). The shepherd's pie has a nice crust and the fish and chips are hearty. I'm not mad at the Irish beer options either. Who wouldn't like to down a pint along with their traditional Irish breakfast? Where they also standout is the fact they have also serve pizzas. Diners usually have all sorts of food, but pizza is typically not one of them. It's halfway decent, and would satisfy most folks looking for a utility pie. Where they fall a bit short is on the service, semi-pricey items, and really subpar American fare. Normally I would only come here for the Irish food but I was unimpressed with a lot of their popular items. This includes much of the appetizers, such as their soups, quesadillas, fried potato skins, on occasion the calamari. I haven't fared well with the soups, salads, and sometimes the burgers / sandwiches are a tinge dry. The brunch stuff is solid, but not enough for me to choose this place over others. Ate there the other day after work as a youth worker at Woodside on the Move with other staff for dinner. We all ate like a family that we'd gotten the same buffet dishes such as pasta, wings, salad, pizza, fries, etc. with unlimited drinks and a 2 alcohol drink limit. All had tasted super good and delicious. The service there was also really good and attentive that we all couldn't agree more. Wholeheartedly surprised by the delicious food i got to enjoy last week. Let's start off by mentioning the service, everyone was attentive and welcoming. As for my reviews, if you know how I go, remember I type out my experience and then add the stars afterward based on every factor. Starting off with appetizers, my friend and I ordered their Mac and Cheese and Chicken Wings. I kept on spooning Mac and cheese onto my plate because the flavor was just *chef's kiss*. My only "complaint" if there is one was that I prefer a cheese sauce that is thicker than thin. That's definitely a choice of preference. As for the Chicken Wings, tasty sauce; however, because of that nice bar and interior I think this place could really shine if they focus on wings more. Although the wings were tasty, I don't know if I'd order them again because I wasn't wowed. They were lackluster and, if I was absolutely craving chicken, I'd be satisfied BUT if they opted for a bigger and juicier chicken then I think they could get an influx of people come for brews and wings. Next up, because I was curious, I was given a chance to try their Irish take on a Chicken Curry. At first I was like LOL what did you say one of your best sellers was ??? But then thinking back, for an Irish place, Indian food is very popular in the UK so it does make sense that they would even have it on the menu. I said SURE I'd try it and I'm honestly glad I did. This chicken was cut up nicely into thick chunks and definitely juicy (showing how their Chicken Wings could really flourish with the right push). The sauce was REALLY tasty and the fries were nice and thick to dip in. I would even recommend that they do a Chicken Wing with curry sauce considering how popular this dish is. Then, what I came for; the pizza!! I love Bar Pizza and this was so so so yummy. We got the Margherita, Allá Vodka, and Italian Sausage. I would recommend all three BUT my favorite was the italian sausage, also topped with onions and peppers and cheese Oh My. Very flavorful and a great crust. This place is "hidden away" about a block away from the station, and worth checking out. GREAT breakfasts available all day, along with tempting lunches and crazy creative, tempting pizzas, drinks, desserts, and more. While my wife and I were in Queens for a weekend last month, we had dinner both evenings at the Woodside Cafe, and we would recommend this restaurant to others enthusiastically. We both ordered the Grilled Salmon entree - twice! - (although I was tempted to try a pizza, which looked delicious, when I saw it delivered to another table), and enjoyed every bite. My friend's food was also just fine, but she has similar feedback on the eggs. She also had to send back the orange juice cause it came out looking like peach nectar. I didn't taste it, so I can't say, but she was not happy. All in all, this is a great affordable diner spot for a low-key brunch, but nothing to wait in line for or make a ton of effort to visit. The staff is very attentive and accommodating and the manager Zoran is so welcoming and hospitable. Food: We love the pizza, our two favorites are the Bee sting which has sopresatta & honey, and the Mexican pizza which has jalapeño and is a little spicy, crunchy and delicious. Such a great neighborhood place with a good food and family friendly atmosphere! Don't expect fancy dinner dishes, this is more of an Irish pub menu that would be suitable for a causal dinner. Some of our favorites are: spicy chicken panini, bbq chicken wrap, steak salad, soups, and pizza. The cafe recently got a pizza oven and their pizza is wonderful with lots of cheese. My husband and I saw this nice looking cafe and saw that their menu looked decent. First time coming to this cafe and there was no one seating us. My husband and I waited for 3 minutes until there was a waitress that told us we can sit anywhere. The cafe/restaurant of the atmosphere looks modern, slick and relaxing. The service was slow. They have enough staff but REALLY slow. We waited over 30 minutes for our food to come. My husband ordered potato skin with sour cream for appetizer, woodside burger with two inch fries and pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries. The potato skin only had 4 pieces and the presentation of that dish was sloppy. It's quite expensive for $7.50. The woodside burger was horrible. The burger meat was cooked well-done when we asked for medium well. The onions on the burger were not caramelized and it didn't have any flavor. The pulled pork sandwich had coleslaw- no taste and lots of BBQ sauce with the pulled pork. The bread with the pulled pork was cold. The food quality wasn't great at all and expensive. It was really disappointing. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The food either had too much flavor or no flavor at all. The only thing that I like from the Woodside Cafe was the Irish Tea. After giving the money to one of the staff, they didn't say anything to us. We were disgusted by their mannerisms. They definitely need training and new management. Very unprofessional! read more

We absolutely like going to Woodside Cafe for dinner or brunch. They have really good brick oven pizzas and burgers. Their wine selection is also pretty good. The food and drink prices are so reasonable. We never had anything bad here. And their staff are always so nice even when they get busy. The manager Zoran absolutely knows how to run a restaurant and makes sure the customers leave satisfied. Thank you Zoran!
