I can't say enough good things about this place, I've been coming here since I was a kid because my family owned some race horses, and still come to this day. The thrill of racing is something everyone should experience if you haven't yet! There's food inside along with a Tim Hortons and a hot dog stand outside. The people are always friendly there, and you can see the horses getting ready for the race in the paddock and then head up to the track to watch the race. Woodbine racetrack and casino is a fun place. My favourite part was the slot machines. Loved the dazzling lights and sounds. The race track was boring for me because we waited a while for the race, and eventually one came on. And that was it. My main objective was to go for dinner. As a member, you can get the steak and lobster tails for $15. So I signed up for membership, and ordered this dinner special. Within 5 mins of ordering, the dish came out. The steak was not medium rare, it was more medium. The lobster tails were little ones and a bit overcooked and dry. The veggies were fine though. For $15, I didn't expect much. So that was that. The restaurant was nice. We sat right by the window where we got an amazing view of the racetrack. The service wasn't overly friendly, and the server had zero knowledge of the races. It was my first time visiting Woodbine casino & racetrack, would like to share a few impressions about the place. The line to apply or got a duplicate loyalty card is extremely slow, don't waste your time. The casino has a large variety of slot machines and some tables, the place is very crowded, lay out is horrendous, slot machines generate a tremendous amount of heat and some locations are too hot, they urgently need to upgrade their air con system. Cafeteria: You will have to pay $4.20CAD for a bottle of 0.5LT water to quench your thirst, and an employee killed a bug on top of the counter, lost my appetite, and after that, didn't want to buy an overpriced sandwich. On the plus side, there is no smoking in Canadian casinos, there is a convenient parking lot shuttle, and lastly I believe is the closest to Toronto Metro. This is an impression solely of the racetrack, from an individual with zero knowledge on horse races. We visited on Queen's Plate 2019, on a Wednesday evening. Reception was friendly and was really helpful. We got to watch in the Post Parade Room by invitation, which was directly above the seats and had a nice view of the track. In addition, our table had a screen, so we could see the action live and on TV; a bit excessive, but sure. I betted on a horse named "Excommunicate", who placed 6th out of 9. Our table ended up breaking even. Otherwise, I had a pleasant day here. May 18, 2018 - Woodbine Casino has a few restaurants to choose from there is HoofBeats and Willows Noodle Bar on the main floor and the second floor has the food court where you'll find delicious Southern-style chicken. I love the fried chicken, It's very yummy. I prefer this fried chicken more than any other fried chicken spot (not that I have tried many, but so far I like this one the most). Side note: if you have a winners circle players card you can get vouchers for the restaurants in the casino. We got a $30 food voucher. After playing for a while we wanted to get some food to go, so we decided to order more chicken to take home but the food court was closed *so sad* So instead we went to HoofBeats, I took my number (B85) at that time they were call numbers in the 70's.. as we waited for our # to be called we played on the near by machines. RUDE SECURITY DOWNSTAIRS - almost charged at me!! I have a video of him going after my arm. Older security man in his 50-60 asked me for ID and I joked saying I'm 15, I'm actually 30, while he held my ID. The man was rude and said "LEAVE, it's not funny" I asked if he was joking, he said no - leave now! Niagara casino and border security is more lax. Security upstairs for tables already let us through prior to this incident. OLG has been emailed about this with a video. Manager was called, Charles, did not help and said we can file complaint under OLG - would not let me use him as a ref or get his contact information. We weren't allowed in, and we left, manager took securities side and did not explain why security is handled in this manner. The man was very rude and it was unacceptable behaviour. read more

Disclaimer: I may be bias as my dad is a horse trainer outside of Ontario. Came here to watch a few races when my father was in town. It's not a bad racetrack at all compared to Vancouver. I spent most of the time watching the horses up in the bar area. The track looks like it's in good condition for the horses to run and the people all seem to have one thing in common- shouting out how they really feel! It adds to the atmosphere for sure. Not to mention, it's always a plus when you can watch a race without being rained down on. I did spend some minor time on the slots and it paid off since we left with more than we came in. The layout of the slot machines were a little hectic and it was insanely busy! So just a heads up for anyone coming to enjoy the slots, you may have to camp out for a certain slot machine. read more

A beautiful venue! Not a bad seat in the house to watch live horse racing. Most of the seating is covered, so you're good for rain and sunshine for the most part. Lots of free parking. So close to the airport that planes were flying pretty low! Huge place. Lots of food and drink options on all floors. No craft beer tho. Mill Street is the closest, otherwise it's all of the usual suspects. Almost $10/beer. There's a Tim's and a Pizza Pizza in there, if you're looking for something familiar. As for betting, the attendants there are very helpful, if you're new. They'll explain different ways of placing bets which was nice. They had a ton of staff working to help direct the flow of people for Queen's Plate. I was fortunate enough to be invited to a event at the Champion's bar at the racetrack. The restaurant has beautiful view of the track from it's patio. We were given a complementary pre-loaded $2 betting card and a guidebook. We also had the amazing staff of Woodbine racetrack give us tips on how to place our bets and read the book. The betting was very exciting and we had a lot of fun. Let's get to the food! We got to taste a plethora of appetizers. The tuna tartare was made with fresh herbs and it was delicious. The crab cake sliders were pretty good too, although I didn't like the buns as much and the mustard overpowered the crab a bit. The shrimp cocktail was loaded with shrimp and mayonnaise. Loved the Italian sausage, cheese and fried pineapple skewers as well. All the appetizers were very elegantly presented. The waiters were all very professional and friendly. All the delicious savoury foods were not enough, the restaurant also served us a wide array of mouth watering desserts. I had the huge strawberry coated with a layer of rich dark chocolate. I tried the creme brulee which had a perfect hardened crust topped with a blackberry. And then I couldn't help but stuff myself with some heavenly pistachio ice cream sandwich. They were very generous with the pistachios. I had never imagined a race track would be so much fun. The food and service surpassed my expectations. This is a great place to host a party or an event. They also have a casino and slot machines if you get don't like to watch the horses. I will definitely recommend it to friends and family. They are hosting their Queen's plate event on July 6 this year, which will be a great time to visit this place if you have never been here before. read more

The Favorites Dining Room has good quality food, considering it's a buffet. The casino is worth checking out, but I've noticed for table games, the minimum bet fee is higher than I've seen in Niagara. Definitely, a fun day time activity! Tip: Remember where you park. The tracks and stands are huge and spacious and the actual betting on the horses is easy once you make use of the "newbies" stand. This review is only for the Slots as the horses were not racing. First note: The track is in the far west, not near woodbine avenue (how did that happen), as well the entrance is hard to find from the highway. Did I mention Slots!!!! Its a great way to wile away a few hours if you have money to burn. Don't expect to win big, apparently Canadian casinos don't have as large payouts as Americans ones. The venue and the horse-racing part is 4 stars but the restaurant is a 2, so it averages to be 3. I went for lunch with my friends and the restaurant requires $25 minimum per head, excluding alcohol. I mean, I'd rather they up it to $30 or $40 minimum including alcohol because trying to eat $25 per head on their limited menu of crappy bar food and microwave pasta was tough. We got the nachos and the chips were stale. We asked to return it and exchange for something else and the server gave us the dirtiest look like we just bad-mouthed his family or something. Prices at the restaurant was fairly reasonable, low $10s for appetizers and high $10s to low $20s for entree, hence the difficulty to hit the minimum charge without stuffing yourself or taking food home. I used to go to Woodbine a lot, after they replaced the old slots with the new ones, everything stopped hitting. Woodbine has become a complete scam. a friend of mine banned himself from woodbine a couple of years ago, but gets in without questioning. The slots are all rigged and nothing hits. the Keno and video poker slots are the biggest scam. I prefer Fallsview Casino, it never dissappoints. I only come here for the horses, have never been to the slots. For the racing, its pretty straight forward I guess. There are many options to see the horses, up close, high up, by the paddock or front entrance etc. So that part is good for the kids, they can get real close to see if they like. I would say in general it gets very busy on weekends. Not like a big event like Queens Plate - every seat filled busy, but busy enough. If you are new to racing/betting, there are people around that can show you, which is nice. I have ate at the restaurant where you get served, I think that is at 3rd floor?. The setting is nice, because we sat outside on the big couch and can quickly walk few toward the stands to get a closer look at the races. But, that was about it. Waited about 1hr to get our food, and it was a big disappointment when we got it. Food would have been much better at any other place that serves any kind of food. Now, at the 2nd floor, where you stand in line to get your food, the food there is actually not bad. There seems to be a good variety of choices as well. We were there yesterday, Sunday, and it was quite busy. I waited, maybe 5-10 mins for sausage, which was not bad. The problem with here though, is no one is serving you, and you are on your own. At the island, where you typically get you ketchup, napkins, was depleted by the time I lined up. I already knew this waiting in line, as I see others asking the cashier for stuff. There was no more ketchup left by the time I got there, so that kinda sucked having 3 fries and no ketchup for the kids. Now the best part was the cashier serving me. She like to put up her hand, like a stop sign, when you are trying to ask/talk to her. I saw her do this to people before me as well. After getting my last item, I asked for some napkins, and she tries ignores me by telling me my order is done, put up her hand and tries to look away. But she really couldn't ignore me as I was standing right there. How about just listen to what people are telling you first. I can't believe some one in front end CS can get away with doing that constantly. This was after carefully making sure she understood my order and repeating myself over and over again. It was a bit frustrating, especially when there are lots of people. But overall, most just come here for racing/slots. For that, the rating should be higher. Maybe not so much when you lose money, which seems to be a common theme for most, but when you win a race its the coolest feeling. And you don't even need to bet much to feel good about your win. You can bet for as little as 2 dollars on each bet and watch those horses run as your heart beats faster and faster till they hit that finish line! Probably not the best place if you have a heart condition, but Ive seen many people at this place on oxygen tanks, so what do i know? I got invited out to a networking event for a "Night at the Races" at Woodbine. The event took place on the trackside tents just next to the main building. We will right there about 100 ft away from the horses. I was impressed. The food was great, buffet style with loads of variety. Salads, grilled and roasted veggies, roast chicken and wonderful prime rib! I had to limit myself to one plate to save room for dessert. The highlight of the night was getting a mini crash course with one of the Woodbine horse betting experts. He was super helpful and overlooked our picks. Sadly, I did not win any of my bets. My love affair with Woodbine and horse racing started over two decades ago when my grandparents kicked off an annual tradition, inviting our family to Mother's Day at the track. We would head upstairs to Favorites Dining Room, a six-tiered full-service restaurant with a spectacular view overlooking the races. As the horses entered the paddock area we would examine them with earnest from table top flat screens as we gorged on prime rib and made-to-order omelettes, washed down with the champagne of ginger ales. Toonies in hand, we would proudly approach the betting counter to place our wagers. We cheered on our favorites and willed them with all our might to win, place or show. As every race day wore on and eventually came to a close, we would depart, bellies full, wallets thickened or thinned depending on our luck and always eager to return the following year. read more

I had a really good time out here this past summer when I headed up north to canada. My cousins, my mom, step dad and I decided to make a day of it and take a trip out to the racetrack on a sunday. It was a really great idea, we had a great summer day. Meanwhile, no one came out a really big winner in the six or so races we played all together. I believe there were 10 races all together that day. I just won a few bucks here and there on $2 win bets or $1 place and $2 win combined efforts and it was just enough money winning back from the race to help me buy more beer for the day. There were some greats on tap LE Bat, Molson and others. Prices were decent like 4.85 in canadian money ( not far off from USD actually a few cents difference). The large drink was maybe 6.25 for 24 oz so yeah I kept myself hydrated in between race watching. I think one difference between here in NY ( Belmont or Aqueduct) and this place was there were alot of visible prostitutes there too at the race track. Honestly I mean you can just tell when you see the guys that they were with and how they were dressed. It was like fuck, you know this guy looking like this with two blazin hot chicks on his arm just has straight deep pockets, maybe they were still looking around the room for their next mark after they entertained this guy. I guess sure there were a few high rollers in the crowd and I was not even in the V.I.P. -overall a great day I must say. The most I won on any single race was about 10 Canadian dollars. Like I said, exciting raciing that included beers with the family. It was a moment I will remember. Food was decent out there too, got like Pepperoni pizza a giant slice, like really big for 2.50 but yeah way bigger than our slices over here. Got some popcorn too that was worth it being a giant portion as well for 3.50. Quick tip : They do have slot machines here as well to play. I walked through but didn't do any time with the one arm bandit machine. The money system there did confuse me at first, they are way more coin based. I had litterally every piece of every differet type of coin after all these beer and food runs. They have 1 dollar coins and also 2 dollar coins so yeah an outsider like me had to check it first before paying, or I would just give like a 5 dollar canadian bill and then a US 25 cent quarter and say what ever it is the same. I know people hate on this place but I went for the first time last weekend and had a blast. I was bored and wanted to do something new so I figured I'd go see a horse race. The staff were really good at filling me in on how the betting works. I only won like six dollars on the horses but it was fun to look at the stats and pretend I knew what I was doing when I selected my bets. It's only a buck or two to make a fun bet. I'm not a huge gambler so I didn't get too wild. Eventually I got tired of horses so I went downstairs to the slots. The machines are in every bar back home but you never see them in Ontario. I decided to put a $20 in. I walked away a couple hundred richer. (Remember kids, it was just luck of the draw, we're not always going to win, don't feed your whole paycheque to the slots). Since I was up in the money I went to the buffet in the slots area for dinner. It was $24 and the selection was small but I was happy with it. The roast beef was tender and carved to order. The almond chicken was perfectly cooked and not dry at all. The cheesecake was effing amazing, not like the Mandarin or Imperial Buffet garbage. Beverages were also included in the price. One thing I didn't like was the setting. It kind of looks like a diner, not like a place you'd spend $24 on dinner. Also, everyone else seemed to be getting free dinner but I had to pay. The following is a review of the restaurant: Rating: 2/5 There's an all-you-eat buffet style option, which is a bit pricy but seems popular with much of the 60+ crowd that made up most of the restaurant guests. My guest and I opted for ordering from the menu. This is what we had: Soup: turns out we were served bowls of the soup off the buffet line, dished out by our server and at $5/bowl was underwhelming at best. Both were salty and tasted stale, likely from sitting in a buffet line serving dish for too long. Salad: we ordered a chopped salad as opposed to the cesar (the only other choice). It wasn't spectacular, but wasn't all that bad either. The blue cheese on it was terrible, and we always get salads with blue cheese, this one just wasn't really up to par. It was a large salad however and made the $9 spend seem less painful. Club sandwich: the chicken breast was really dry and flavourless, while the bacon tasted of old oil. Good portion size though, but it is $14. Overall the food was massively disappointing, but our server was attentive and really polite. Not sure I'd eat here again or recommend it to anyone else, especially not at their current prices for the current food. read more
