After a year long search for a proper wood window provider for my 1924 English story-book cottage home in Hayward, I finally selected Wood Windows & Doors in San Pablo. Ivan's little shop of hand made wood products I believe, are some of the highest quality doors and windows you will find. They only use the highest quality unburled hard or softer woods, as well as seamless glass, which they will machine craft and form into just about any design you desire. After my decision to take them on, the ordering process was very simple and even though final delivery took a very long time, staying informed by them regularly really helped the time scoot by. The entire crew is extremely responsive and they still truly understand customer service like it use to be. Never once did I feel forgotten or unattended like so many other businesses and in the end, my five oversized windows are absolutely gorgeous, high quality and operate flawlessly. My experiences with the shop crew & production manager Marissa, we're also always seamless and pleasant experiences. They are all extremely knowledgeable and understand attention to fine detail. I can't recommend this place enough. We just did a major remodel on our house, and replaced all of the windows on the front of our Victorian home. I talked to four different vendors but was really happy with their quote and customer service and ultimately went with them. Our place was built in 1908, so it's no easy tasks measuring and templating these old funky homes. I can't underestimate how tricky it is in these houses. But they did an amazing job and the install went great. All the windows are made in mahogany, so they are incredibly high quality. And once painted, they blend right into our Victorian architecture. Which is not easy to pull of given the high level of details in these houses. We're incredibly happy and wish we had done this sooner as the double pane glass has made street noise disappear! read more

Wood, Windows and Doors has a good pitch. They can make "anything" you want. They offer a 10 year warranty. They offer "full service" including installation, stucco work, painting and window manufacturing. The REALITY s a very different story. Slow delivery will be a "for sure" thing. The company should be more HONEST about time frames. My advice: double the time frame initially given. We were told we'd have our windows in 2 1/2 months, but it actually took 5 months before we received them. After the windows were installed, that is when the problems really began. Here's the "short list": 1) We ordered 2 large windows that were "FIXED panels" that adjoin a sash that opens. There were multiple problems with these: warped wood, molding that did not line up and glass that developed a bubble. a) The movable sash was not FLUSH with the fixed sash. The wood was warped. I believe they use a low grade of mahogany. They do not have systems in place for quality control to avoid manufacturing windows with warped wood. b) The molding at the top of the fixed sash did not LINE UP with the movable sash (that opens). c) The glass had a rainbow in the coating on the outside on one large window and within 4 months, the other window also developed a bubble and rainbow. We were told we would have to live with a rainbow in the middle of our window. 2) Wood, Window and Doors told us in the 3rd week of November we would receive replacement sashes for the two warped sashes that did not close completely (flush with the window sill). However, only one of them actually was flush with the fixed sash on the second try, and the molding did not line up AGAIN! It is April 2022, and we are still waiting for the second sash. 3) WATCH OUT FOR THE WARRANTY ON THE GLASS: If we want a glass replacement (for the rainbow bubble in the glass as mentioned above) , we will have to pay for the LABOR to install it. The company does not cover labor on any glass replacements. The company must KNOW that glass fails in a 10 year timeframe or they would not limit the warranty to giving you a piece of glass as a replacement and not pay for the labor to actually replace it. After about $5K per window, this was a hard pill to swallow. 4) We asked the company to match 3 windows we had in another bedroom and add 2 more that would match them. When they were installed, we realized they window sill was straight out (only a 5 degree angle) and did not match the more typical 15 degree angle of window sills in 1920 homes. They told me that the 5 degree angle was approved by the City of Oakland, and I never asked for a 15 degree angle. He told me he would not fix the wooden sill to MATCH the existing ones. 5) Watch out - The owner is a great salesman! We fell for the "full service" line pitched by the owner. It sounds so good. Your windows will come in painted, the stucco work will be done and you do not have to find our own window contractor. My advice - RUN from this pitch. They do not manage their sub-contractors during the installation process. They take 30% of the money they charge the client to line their own pockets, but you will be "in charge" of your own installation. They have no control of their sub-contractors either. Their first stucco guy left the country. So they lined up another one who fortunately did good stucco work. The stucco guy had to provide his own scaffolding to do his work, and I had to pay an additional charge for it IN CASH. We "assumed" that the full service pitch included putting "headers" above any new installation windows. However, we had to hire our own contractor to do all of the header work for the new construction windows we purchased form WW and Doors. This was yet another SURPRISE! 5) Painting was a total disaster! Their shop is full of sawdust, and it was baked into the windows after they were painted. The outside paint color could be seen on the inside of the windows. Another staff person told me, "He was in a rush". This person further acknowledged the sawdust problem. When she was remaking our second sashes, she told me, "I guarantee you there will be no sawdust in your sashes." We had to repaint every single window due to the poor paint job. 6) It turned out that the casing and hardware was not available around day 8 of the installation process. They called this a "little oversight". These items were then ordered making the installation stretch out over 12 business days. This is an example of the disorganization in the company. 7) The main customer support person takes a long time to respond to any question or inquiry. I had to inquire multiple times on various matters before I would get a response. I encourage anyone considering windows to look elsewhere. You will definitely have a better experience with a company that has quality control systems and sufficient staffing to provide well-made windows. read more

Ivan, Marissa and their team just replaced 17 windows and a door at my 100 year old Craftsman bungalow in San Rafael. They look amazing! We are thrilled with the result. Everyone was great to work with throughout the whole process. It did take a while for the windows to be completed, but each window is custom-made out of high grade mahogany wood, exactly matching the pre-existing ones. I found this business on Yelp. I was told that the cost of their custom solid wood doors start around $2,000.00 or $3,000.00 dollars and goes up from there. I later met with Marissa at their shop and left information regarding the type of entry door I was interested in. Ivan responded in by email in about two weeks with a quote that was very high. He ended up correcting this quote due to an error involving the number of sidelights. My entry door requires only one sidelight, he gave me a quote that included two sidelights. With this correction the cost of entry door still quite high and did not include pre-hung, trim, stain, or hardware such door nob etc. It only included the unfinished door, hinges, unfinished sidelight and installation of these two items. I requested information on a entry door that would cost around $3,000.00 dollars, but this was never provided. I received subsequent higher quotes for the cost of staining and trim and an email with an article on Mahony wood doors-which I had previously expressed knowing about. Things became quite confusing and I left Ivan a voice message seeking clarity. He sent me a text message suggesting that I follow-up with Marissa. I phone Marissa who advised Ivan was out ill. I asked her for clarity on what was covered in the quotes. She indicated that she was at the bank, would return to the office and follow-up with me once she had access to the quotes. If I could give these guys 10 stars, I would. Ivan and Ruben, co-owners of the company, are some of the nicest guys I've ever dealt with. And they can do anything! I had a 1926 house that needed 2 custom-sized exterior doors. I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg on doors because it's about to go on the market (an estate sale). I got a ridiculously expensive quote from Home Depot for fiberglass doors (which is all they could find for that size but were not conducive to an almost 100 year old house), so someone said call Wood Windows and Doors. Ivan and Ruben drove over that afternoon, measured the spaces, and asked if I'd be ok with used doors (since new custom wooden doors would be over my price range), which I was. They went to 3 different places and found me 2 beautiful used wooden doors, relatively inexpensive and perfect for the style of the house, cut them down to the sizes I needed, and installed them the next day! They even trued up some interior doors, replaced some drywall in a ceiling, and drove me to a hardware store when I didn't have wheels that day! You won't be disappointed with this company.
