Came here a couple weeks ago for lunch with work place proximity associate. there's a plenty of parking in the back shared with other restaurants. it's probably very busy during dinner time. Limit items in the me u but you can have different variations. you can have soup with or without noodles, wonton braised brisket, pork knuckle. I opted to try all three in a noodle soup. next time I'd probably back up for a large dish of the pork knuckle or brisket and a bowl of noodle soup with Wonton. service is fast. small cash discount.
Wow what a treat. Tucked away in a strip mall is a place serving delicious traditional hong kong (?) style noodle soup. The shrimp wontons were humungous (multiple shrimp per wonton) and the dace fish ball my friend said were just like her grandmother would get them in hong kong, truly home-style/made. The noodle soup was savory but light like a consume. The chili oil was quite spicy. Small-medium size interior. Quick service. Larger parking in the rear.
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away (okay, maybe not *THAT* far)... there was a tiny noodle shop serving up bowls of soup that made every belly happy... If you're in NJ and craving Hong Kong-style wonton noodle soup, head to Wonton Guy in Edison. It's a no-frills local gem tucked away in a tiny strip mall off Route 27, with a few parking spots out front and more in the back. The space is small (only 10 tables!) and nothing fancy, but the value is hard to beat. It's always busy, and after you take your first slurp of the soup, you'll get why. Service is fast, so the tables turn over quickly. I was able to grab a seat when I walked in on a Saturday evening. The menu is simple and offers 3 main options: 1.) noodle soup with toppings 2.) soup with toppings (no noodles) 3.) lo mein with toppings served with soup on the side From there, you pick your noodle type (egg, flat rice, vermicelli), as well as up to 3 toppings (wontons, dumplings, beef brisket, etc.). There are also a few side dishes like shredded pork in chili tomato sauce, deep fried fish skin, and curry fish balls. They even sell some items raw like wontons, noodles, dumplings, and sliced beef. And the best part is... the prices are very affordable! Most of the dishes are around $11-$16. My order: *Two Toppings (wonton + beef brisket) Noodle Soup [$12.75] - Where do I begin? Every single part of this meal SLAPPED. The wontons were MUMBO JUMBO and generously filled with fresh, plump shrimp that were sweet and juicy. The noodles were soft and springy. The beef brisket was SO tender with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. And the broth? Super rich, aromatic, and savory. It's made of shrimp skin, pork bone, dried flounder fish, dried shrimp, and dried monk fruit, but it doesn't taste fishy at all. Each table is stocked with condiments like vinegar, homemade chili oil, and soy sauce to customize your soup. The chili oil packs some SERIOUS HEAT, so watch out. This was hands down one of the best noodle soups I've had. I was sad when I finished it :-( *Hong Kong-style Milk Tea [$6] - I really enjoyed this! The black tea was bold and strong--almost too strong for me, but the milk balanced it out nicely. I only wish it had boba! Everything tasted authentic. Quick backstory: The owner comes from a family with GENERATIONS of experience making wontons and running noodle shops in Hong Kong. He grew up there and brought those family traditions to his own restaurants in Toronto... and now Edison. All those years of experience clearly show in his food. The broth is simmered overnight, and the wontons are freshly prepared every morning. No shortcuts here--just decades of tradition, skill, and a whole lot of love in every bowl. Ugh, I wish I lived closer because I'd be a regular. It's hard these days to find a place that REALLLLLLY delivers a memorable meal that's both tasty, reasonably priced, and served in generous portions. If you're within driving distance and debating whether it's worth the trip--DON'T! Wonton Guy is absolutely worth a visit, even if it's just once. I drove an hour to try it, and I still think about those wontons all the time... no joke LOL.
We came here for a late lunch on a Saturday and there were still a decent amount of people eating despite the late afternoon. Service was quick nonetheless and the server was super friendly - he was great to talk to! Menu had a good amount of dishes and we shared everything for the most part. Excellent, friendly and very traditional Hong Kong style of taste. The server speaks fluent English and recommends us with this dish. I highly recommended to everyone. Parking is in the back. It is very easy to find.
Stopped by for lunch here and it was excellent! The parking in the front was tight, but there were plenty of spaces in the rear. We ordered a wonton & beef noodle soup, curry fishballs, and the steamed vegetable. The highlights were the wontons obviously and the fishballs. The wontons were massive, with multiple shrimp inside each, really impressive. The curry fishballs were delicious, I loved mixing the noodle in the sauce. Overall it was a great meal, simple and delicious!
Chinese noodle restaurant @ Edison, NJ We used to come here for a hearty bowl of the noodle soup but the taste of the wonton dumpling soup has been changed. The dumplings no longer had shitake mushroom inside and the soup was not clear and was very salty. The server didn't greet us properly and was not friendly. The restaurant was also very cold inside. It appears that the ownership might have changed.
Went to Wonton Guy for lunch on a Saturday. It's located in a strip mall, and the parking lot is hard to get in and out of since you're backing out directly into Route 27. It's a small restaurant, gives vibes similar to a Chinese takeout joint, but with authentic wonton noodle soups. I got the wonton noodle soup with wontons, dumplings, beef brisket, and egg noodles. It was decent, especially for NJ, but nowhere near as good as going to Chinatown. At least they're quick, friendly, and have fair prices.
We walked to Wonton guy after doing some light shopping in the Hmart plaza. It's right along route 27, so it's in a great location. The inside is very no frills and that function over fashion mindset was felt throughout the experience. There are only ten tables inside and meals come out pretty quickly. So despite its size, we didn't need to wait for a seat. I had the three topping noodle soup, with egg noodles, dumplings, and sliced beef. Digging in, you can immediately tell this is Chinese comfort food through and through. Nothing fancy, but it's a large portion of food, for a very good price. Whereas most Japanese ramen restaurants tend to skimp on proteins and focus on an aesthetic meal, you won't find that here. You can come hungry, and leave satisfied. The broth was a lighter and simpler broth, and I felt the same way about the noodles. The sliced beef had good flavor, but I found it to be a bit too chewy. The dumplings were filled with shrimp and were definitely the star of the dish. Altogether, I enjoyed my experience, but I would say the restaurant is best suited as a quick, satisfying meal of value and convenience rather than something you would actively seek out.
The noodles here are legit. I think its just as good as you can get in HK. Delicious. Prices are reasonable too. We usually come here if we are looking for a quick meal. It is on the smaller side and gets busy, so I recommend avoiding the peak times. Staff speak Cantonese, Mandarin and English. Tip: get the milk tea! Bottle is $6
Wonton Guy is a great noodle soup and dumpling spot! The service is quick and it's kid friendly too. They have a booster seat and high chairs. I liked the shrimp wonton noodle soup and the flavor of the broth is nourishing. It's aromatic and light. The lo mein is not like American Chinese restaurant style but is more like a dry noodles with soup on the side. Enjoyed and would return!
My friends (with great taste in food) highly recommended this place for their wonton soup - they said it's better than wonton soup they have had in Hong Kong, which is where this dish can be popularly eaten. It was so good - you can choose your toppings / combo to get, I loved the fish balls and of course had to try wontons. I would definitely come back for this.

Open since Thanksgiving 2022, this establishment is about a block from a plaza with nearly a dozen Asian restaurants and the H Mart Korean supermarket in Edison. Located on Route 27 off of Plainfield Avenue, Wonton Guy is not Chinese-American food but authentic Hong Kong fast food, where I decided to have lunch today. Upon entering, I was greeted by the staff and got a small table right away inside a cozy, sparse dining area about 10 tables, an open kitchen, and one full wall showing the bright lights of Kowloon in Hong Kong at night. The menu specializes in wontons, of course, in a soup, or just noodles with soup on the side (lo mein). I went for the Two Toppings Lo Mein with shrimp wonton 雲吞 and beef brisket 牛腩 , which were the most popular. Complimentary hot tea started the meal. The meal came out quick and was served hot. It focused on its bold and complex flavors. The broth was made overnight, and the huge wontons stuffed with shrimp and pork, making them hearty and satisfying, were freshly made every morning and tasted authentic. The brisket was tender. The price was very reasonable. The staff was friendly and helpful with what to recommend; my server was Ray. It was a great deal, and I recommend this place.

As a Cantonese person living in an area with predominantly Mandarin-speaking area, I was pleasantly surprised to discover an authentic Hong Kong-style noodle restaurant. We were seated quickly right before the lunch rush. The waiters here speak Canto, Mando, and English, and nostalgic HK 80s-2000s pop plays in the background. The menu is simple, as they specialize in wonton noodle soup. I went for the classic egg noodles while my husband had added on the fish skin and some braised beef brisket. The soup was flavorful, the wontons were plump, and the texture of the noodles were spot-on to what I recall having in HK. My only wish is if they also served classic HK drinks like HK-style milk tea and coffee. Overall, prices are reasonable and the food is great! I'll definitely be coming back for more. read more

This is definitely my new go-to spot. There are very few places around here that do Canto food well but Wonton Guy is perfect. The food is good, prices are pretty affordable (and it tastes a lot like my family's cooking which i miss as a student, so I'd say it's authentic lol) read more

The egg noodle soup with brisket , wontons and dumplings- phenomenal!!!! The dumplings and wontons are massive. The dumplings have a huge shrimp, pork and mushroom inside and the wonton had to be 3 whole shrimp per wonton. The brisket is incredibly tender and flavorful. The broth is sublime- full of flavor and is a perfect match for all the toppings. The chile condiment is fiery hot and homemade. The service is very friendly, fast and efficient. Very simple restaurant. I believe they have a couple dry noodle dishes but specialize in HK wonton soup. You can choose from 1-3 toppings and the portion is huge! These are probably the biggest shrimp wontons you can get. No one else in the area really does HK wonton soup like this. They're not open super late, I believe they close at 8pm. Came here a bit before their kitchen closed at 7:30 and called to make sure I could make it in time. I ordered the shrimp wontons with beef brisket (3 pieces each) and I was served in 4! minutes. Egg noodles were firm and had a nice bite to them. Brisket was super tender and shrimp wontons (they are huge) were meaty and quite good as well! Nothing like those shitty Chinese takeout wontons. Broth was pretty good as well. An amazing value @ $11.50 a bowl. Staff greeted in Mandarin on the phone and in person, was a bit surprised loll, but prolly shouldn't have been. read more

Wonton noodle soup was known to people. It was delicious HK style but wonton was little salty side and may be extra MSG. Size of wonton was bigger than other places. Food was served less than 5 minutes and experienced waiters only. I only saw Chinese customers which means authentic HK style. Bright and very casual. HK BGM. I would come back to try other menus. read more

Got the Lo mein Wontons. I would say Wontons are superb and the chili oil that comes with it is a nice touch. Wontons are packed and the filling is delicious. Only throwback is that it's quite pricey at $12 for a dish that isn't really at that price point. read more

Great wontons--packed with 2 (3?) giant shrimp and full of flavor thinly wrapped. We got frozen ones to go. The flat noodles are not wide, about half a cm wide, the variety that stays chewy longer in hot broth. Egg noodles were perfectly chewy. One star off for the slight fishiness of the giant dace balls. Want to try to curry fried fish balls next time. Cooked lettuce with oyster sauce is exactly what you expect. This is inexpensive and delicious Hong Kong style fast food. Everything came out in less than 5 minutes after ordering. Cantonese speakers will appreciate the restaurant's name English/Canto pun. More parking around the back behind Rt 27. read more

We came here on the 2nd day of opening. The menu has options of choosing up to 3 toppings for each bowl so we were able to try everything with our group. The portion was generous, the wonton and dumplings were huge!!! The beef briskets were tender and flavorful! Friendly staff and great service. Definitely will go back for more!! read more

Their hours: Tuesday to Sunday 11 to 8, Monday closed. Two of us came on the 2nd day of opening, they basically have 5 types of topping: wonton (shrimp and pork meat) , dumplings, two types of beef and fish meat ball. 4 types of noodles: egg noodles, wide rice noodles, thin rice noodles and vermicelli, you can choose soup noodles or dry noodles, also you can order without noodles. I just wanted to try their wonton and beef flank, so we ordered a bowl of beef flank with egg noodles, a bowl of beef flank with Ho fun (wide rice noodle) and a bowl of wontons only to share. I grew up in Shenzhen so I am familiar with Hk style wonton noodles, I would say their wontons soup noodles is authentic, so it is a must try, beef flank is tender, I am not a fan of the fish balls. I gave one star less is I don't like the Ho fun, too broken and it drink up all the soup, lol, I didn't finish them. I will come back to try their dumplings and fried fish skin maybe. I hope they can have more food on the menu, such as HK style milk tea. A tip: their chili oil is super spicy, go with a little first. read more

Tried the noodle soup & lo mein, both with egg noodles. Lo mein has separate bowl of soup on the side, which tastes more herbal, stronger flavor. The won tons, dumplings & dace fish balls were filled well, pretty big. Beef brisket was good. Convenient parking in strip mall. Menu is basic, not many choices. One bathroom in back, open kitchen, simple, bright & spacious. Recommend. read more
