Wongs USED to be our favorite, but not any more. I placed an order for pick up on Saturday March 7 2026. Called and ordered pork egg foo young, pork chop suey, and vegetable lo mein. The guy on the phone said we don't have chop suey, that was from "old " menu "a couple owners ago". He checked with kitchen staff, said they could make the chop suey this time. Pulled up to pick up the food, cost was almost $7 more than we thought it would be, but I don't mind paying more if the food is good. Signage on outside still says "Wongs Kitchen", but the guy at the counter said they are "Wok 90". Food was hot, but absolutely terrible. The gravy on the egg foo young was a lot lighter than what used to be on Wongs, and the patties were awful, tasted like old product and chemicals?? The chop suey was very runny, not yummy like the former owner's. The worst part was the lo mein, gummy and tasteless, even tons of soy sauce couldn't help. Threw it away, and that's a FIRST for me, as I have always loved leftover lo mein. Overall, definitely not worth the $43 total I paid for this trash food, we will NEVER be back. I'd give zero stars if I could. So sad, RIP Wongs Kitchen, you are already so very missed. read more

Above average friend rice with some great beef and vegetables. Nice spice! The service was friendly. We had it delivered so I didn't see the inside of the restaurant. My dad forgot his phone and they were so friendly in getting it back to us. Good vibes all around! read more

Went to wongs for over 30 years. Was not aware they changed ownership recently. They should make that apparent on the website and when you call to order for at least a while. That being said if you take over a restaurant that has been around for a long time and was a staple that was a good business you don't take their name and change everything. I had to throw the food. Nothing tasted like it was and was not as good at all by a long shot. Won't go there again. They were evasive about the change in ownership until I asked outright if it was the same place. My go to place for a lazy night. 1. Their fried chicken is awesome! Exactly like how my grandma used to make. 2.Their food is super cost-effective. Order two large size is enough for 4 people. 3. If i could give it a lower rating i would. I ordered the chowmein. I was expected, boiled, soft noodles that just melted in my mouth. Instead i was stuck with this. i took a risk by trying the mystery liquid, tasted like my dog oscar's canned wet food. it was HORRID. The look, the taste, the presentation. I was sick. I am sick. It came in a top ramon bag? Not ready, just gave me raw noodles. I was in disbelief. I was, am, still am. i would NEVER and i mean NEVER revist wongs kitchen again. I've been eating at Wong's kitchen for around 15 years and I always go back. I love their house lo mein and fried chicken! I usually get take out and it only takes around 15min for the food to be ready. Lunch buffet is small but it's what got me hooked on the lo mein and fried chicken. read more

I used to eat here all the time years ago, and I don't know what happened, but the food is not the same. The Chicken Fried Rice is super bland, even after adding soy sauce it just doesn't taste good, and the ratio of rice/chicken/green onions is way off, had way too much rice and little else. The cream cheese wontons tasted fine, but were extremely tough and hard to chew. When I called the restaurant to tell the manager, I could barely understand anything she said on the phone, and she kept yelling at someone else in her language and it was really loud in my ear. When I told her the issues with the food she basically said "No one else has complained about this today", and it wasn't until I told her they have these exact same complaints online from other customers, she finally said "Ohhhhh, okay, sorry". I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews. I've gotten takeout from here twice and enjoyed the food both times. The dishes I ordered were the subgum shrimp and chicken with pea pods. I'm on a healthy low sodium diet, and this has made my taste buds more sensitive than they used to be. Wong's Kitchen accommodated my requests to skip the salt both times. No other restaurant I've been to since beginning my healthy low sodium diet provides so many low sodium meal options. read more

Maybe my expectations were too high. This was my first time at Wong's Kitchen and though there was only one family dining in, the line of people picking up their take-out order was rather substantial. I thought, "Man, this place must be pretty good!" The phone was also ringing off the hook so all of these factors combined led me to believe I was in for a treat. I ordered the beef and broccoli to go and a side of egg rolls. When I got home and popped open the boxes everything looked great. This is where things go awry. The beef tasted a little off. I don't know if it's because of how it was seasoned, but it just didn't taste very good at all and the rest of the dish was kind of bland. I grew up eating Wong's Kitchen Chicken Wings. This place has been here for more than 20 years and has never lost its following. The only year missing on their wall with the best asian award from the New Brighton bulletin is the year China Tiger, about 2 miles north opened their doors. But, I think like me, a lot of people came back to Wong's. The owner and manager John knows my family each time we walk in, and the whole crew takes very good care of every customer. We think it was John's mother that used to own and run the place but after many years ended up selling it to him. (that's the rumor in my family anyway) It used to be take-out only, with a flower shop taking up most of the space. However after a fire, the flower shop closed and Wong's took over that whole side of the building. Back about 17 or 18 years ago my Dad was one of the most influential voices in John's ear telling him to make the restaurant 100% smoke free! Long before any smoking ban. To be honest I really only go in here for take out or the buffet. I think I've ordered from the menu once and it's good, it just isn't the buffet! Small buffet, not even a dozen items but they are all fantastic. Fried rice is top notch, hearty chow mein and the fried chicken wings... I could eat them for the rest of my life and never grow tired of them. With the buffet still only $5.95 I suggest you all go give it a shot. One negative is the coda refill policy. I think you only get one. I'd like to say that policy has changed but I have no facts to back it up. If you come at a busy time you are likely to get fresher food. But their busy time always has at least one table open. I plan on going back soon for the chicken wings... oh the chicken wings. This place is terrible! I went once when I first moved to the area and never again! If you are thinking of stopping in, think again, there are so many other great, authentic Asian food restaurants in the area. We ordered the orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, egg rolls and cream cheese wontons. Both the fried chicken dishes had been over fried, were greasy and the oil smelled old. The sauces to accompany were gloppy, gelatinous and artificially gross! The egg rolls were by far the worst I've ever had, terrible flavor and the cream chees wontons (which I though, they can screw these up) were awful as well. They were tough, chewy and cream cheese was minimal and dehydrated inside. It's been a while since I have been here but from what I can remember, it actually wasn't that bad. I'm seeing a lot of mixed reviews, more bad ones recently so I will have to pay them a visit to see if my opinion changes. This review is literally based on the two items I have ever had from here and the cheap price point. Every time I've been here I've gotten the same things: Chicken wings-lightly battered and deep fried, typical chinese buffet wings Chow mein, chop suey style-looks like a crazy borderline scary celery mush but actually tastes good with crispy noodles and rice. If you eat here it's pretty quiet and they play classical music. The patrons are pretty much the 60+ crowd so I can't really say this place is poppin on Saturday nights. To be honest I would only recommend this place if there was a zombie apocalypse and this was the only place with locks that worked...still recommendable but pretty low on the totem pole. read more

We tend to take out from here when we want something quick and filling. The egg drop soup is a winner in my book, thick and eggy. My other favorite is their fried rice. Chicken, beef, pork or house, it doesn't matter. All the fried rice there is worth it. I'm not usually big on Asian food, so I stick with what I know. I go to Wongs Kitchen when I need a subgum chowmein fix. It's tasty, fresh, and for a dollar you can get the little paper packet of salty cashews . . . a must-have addition to any subgum. I've also had a thai friend say that their spicy chicken wings are some of the best she's had in MN. My 4-year-old always gets the tofu with vegetables, it's his favorite (and I definitely like to sneak a little of that). Service is good, too. Only 4 stars because they don't deliver. But they're 3 blocks from my house so I shouldn't complain. read more

I ordered via Door Dash - they have an okay rating there but should've double checked Yelp. I ordered 3 items and none were edible and went into the trash. Chicken lomain for $9 had 2 pieces of chicken and noodles that were so overcooked and mushy. Chicken cashew had what looked like ground chicken - very unappetizing in appearance and rice was mushy. My kids ordered plain lo mein, sweet and sour chicken with no sauce and shrimp in lobster sauce. (clearly I have 1 adventurous eater and 2 fraidy-cats) They raved about most of the food but my youngest said that the chicken was too crispy and had mainly breading. Some people like that! Disgusting is the best word to describe Wong's Kitchen. The front of house is filthy. There was food on the floor in the men's room. The food was, for lack of a better term, terrible. The egg rolls, of all things you shouldn't be able to screw up, tasted frankly rotten. The lo mein was flavorless and little more than ramen with over cooked dry beef. The Mongolian beef looked like it had been microwaved or reheated repeatedly. The sesame chicken was just god awful. The chicken soup, for the little one, tasted like it was out of a can. The only food item actually reasonably redeeming was the cream cheese wontons. So I guess there's one safe item. It was a horrible experience. If you're thinking of going here, just don't. There's a taco place around the corner in the same building, and it's much better. read more

Quickly went for the lunch buffet. It is small but reasonably priced and the food seemed like it was made from scratch instead of the out of the box Chinese buffets. This place has some of the worst shrimp fried rice I've ever eaten. I ordered it as take out, brought it home and it was very dry and just tasted disgusting. I threw the box out after eating only a fourth of it. It was also priced higher than most places. Not sure how the done in service is. My husband and I live pretty close to Wong's and had been told by multiple people how amazing it is and how their chicken wings are the best... apparently these people don't have taste buds. We went on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and were so disappointed. The buffet food was nauseatingly salty and it seemed as though it had been sitting there for days. We ordered a sampling of items: Beef with broccoli, orange chicken, shrimp subgum, veggie lo mein, steamed chicken potstickers, cream cheese puff, all small portions since this was our first takeout here. Just found out about this place today and decided to give it a try, I love Chinese food and tried quite a few places and this is my new favorite, I got mushroom chow mein and chicken egg foo young with 4 cream cheese won tons and it was delicious perfect amount of flavor didn't need to add any salt or pepper, the egg foo young sauce is the best I had, I highly recommend this place if you like smaller places it's nice and cozy. read more
