Was in the mood for Vietnamese food and decided to check out Wonderful. It's a great lounge area and they have a TV that was playing the soccer games. Used to be a cafe, but management changed over the years. Their food was pretty solid and the service was good. Usually I check Yelp before ordering using third-party delivery services but my sister and I wanted to get take-out on a whim. Didn't think I *needed* to check first. Trust was broken, man. Bo luc lac: this place has an abomination of a rendition of this. Super skimpy portion for something that's $19. The beef looked way past its prime (fibrous/falling apart) and was tasteless. Super scam. Sinh to mit: more like canned-jackfruit-turned-into-a-shake. Didn't taste refreshing at all and had too much residual syrup. Bun bo hue: broth is very watered down. Beef was tender, but it tasted a little off (not surprised after tasting the bo luc lac). Big portion and can easily be shared between two people (though not sure why you would want this soup here in the first place). Banh mit thit nuong: bread seemed a little stale (no crisp to the crust and was rather a little gummy). The pork was nothing to write home about. It is a bit of a *wonder* on how messed up this order was. I'm definitely going to check Yelp before ordering delivery from now on, phew. read more

Oh, my...If I could give ZERO stars! The nuoc mam was VILE! No, I'm not being overly dramatic. It was cloudy which should have been a red flag to me but I wanted to give an honest review so my dumb self took a little sip. HUGE MISTAKE! It tasted like...I don't know what to compare it to but I'm telling you it was so bad I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth even after brushing and using mouthwash. My husband ordered the banh xeo that's why I tried the nuoc mam. The banh xeo was extremely bland and overly oily and all you could taste was the oil! The banh mi was crap. The bread was toasted but it was so stale and too chewy like as if they reheated stale bread in the oven. Not like croutons delicious but like old, stale bread sitting in the freezer then getting thawed out and baked. Gross. Needless to say we went and got something else to eat. And the lady that served us um... the cook came out with our order and the host just stared at her like "what do you want me to do?" demeanor. The customer service and the food quality is garbage. I ordered number 31 togo for about $20 and the amount of food for it was not worth it. It is pretty sweet for a papaya beef shrimp dish. I went at 10pm (luckily with my bff's) and the location had an empty parking lot, which I was not expecting at all. The workers were hanging out in the restaurant area, which I thought was pretty cute -- the waitresses were extremely nice and helpful, but wearing clubbing dresses. So I think I would rate this place a 3 1/2 stars. I only came because my friend said she liked the coffee here. I ordered a bun thit nuong (grilled pork over vermicelli). The pork had good flavor and veggies were fresh. I wasn't a fan of the eggrolls or vietnamese coffee. You have to pass through a group of men sitting outside smoking to get to this place (the smoking really bothers me). And if you like to play scratchers, they have machines inside to buy scratchers and a machine for you to check if you won ^_-. Also saw a couple computers, I don't know what it was but pretty sure it was for gambling too. Definitely another one of those Asian places where older men hang out lol. read more

Right when you walk to the front entrance, there's a bunch of older Asian men undressing you with their eyes and gambling. You go inside & there's young sugar babies chillin' with a group of older men. Fast forward to their items, I ordered their ca phe sua da since I've heard it was "super good". You're pretty much paying $3 for a cup of ice. I'm not even kidding, I was only in the shop for 2 minutes waiting for my coffee to be poured together, by the time I got to my car it was all ice. Overall I don't recommend coming to this place if you're actually trying to drink coffee. This place is good if you want to gamble & people watch. read more

Five stars for the food quality. I'll update if I go back for a sit down to eat. That said, I've seen this cafe many times, always packed with people outside, but never really ventured inside because (1) I'm not always confident in my Vietnamese and don't want to be laughed and (2) not really sure what they served UNTIL this past weekend. I tried both the Chao Long (porridge with pork intestines) and Bun Bo Hue. Bomb! So good!! Porridge was so flavorful, hearty and full of protein. It was still piping hot when we brought it home. Bun bo hue was so flavorful! Only remark was the stiff noodles, but it might be because I put in it the fridge to eat later and didn't heat it up properly. We ordered take out so I can imagine the food would taste even better sitting at the restaurant. Price was definitely affordable. If you're ever Sac and love porridge, check out this place. I used to frequent this place quite off and on often over the past couple years without incident until this afternoon, basically as soon as I walked in I grabbed a menu and I tried to read until the tall female waiter tried to take my order, she didn't even let me read the menu and I literally told her " let me read the menu " because I didn't know what to order , I haven't been in the place for a while, I finished eating and told her short coworker how the tall one was and how she didn't let me read the menu to make an order , how the heck can I make a bloody order if I don't know the menu well!!? And when I tried explaining the situation the coworker just ignored me as I spoke and didn't even reply back to me , even after I said thank you and she was like why were you aggressive with her ?? Telling someone that you need to read the menu isn't aggressive if anything trying to force a customer quickly is very aggressive and not everyone can order at the same speed. I never raised my voice once during this and I almost did considering how both disrespectful the waiters were but again at the end of the day I tipped but also lost my appetite because of such a rude encounter with their staff. The manager wasn't there either and it was 12 in the afternoon. If something like this happens with you don't expect the manager to be on site all the time . And the waiters here during the day and hour I came in don't know how to say "you're welcome "after you say" thank you" to them and they won't make eye contact with you either. I honestly don't think that I will come back for a while , if you don't mind that sort of thing then by all means come here but their competitors have better waiters than here who actually make eye contact when you speak with them and say "you're welcome "when you say "thank you " , it's basic international human respect. read more

Visited this place during their late late super late night hours. This place attracts a very questionable crowd! I was unfortunately brought here without knowing what I was getting myself into! I quickly learned how ridiculously sketch this place was when our beautiful waitress was overly friendly and googly eyes with the males I was with. And then the lap dances happened at the table next to me! Am I at a cafe or a strip club? Maybe a secret brothel? They even played music videos with nudity! Is my life in danger for even posting this extremely honest review? Overall, I could not wait to get out of this place and am very disappointed at the person who brought us here! For $6.95 they could've put more ingredients and sauce in this sandwich. It's tasteless. Theres only one layer of ham and a bit of egg in the middle. Majority of the sandwich is just bread. Came back into town the past weekend. Decided to come by since I had fun last time I was here which was about 5 years ago. Sad to say it wasnt as fun as the last time I was here. It was pretty slow for a Saturday night. There may have been 3 tables including mines at around 10-11pm. They don't really keep their beer cold, so I had to get a glass of ice to keep it cold. The waitresses kept walking by my table to assist others and I had to repeatedly ask for things (more beer, more ice, a food menu, etc). My friend wasnt really feeling the vibe either. We had a few beers and a plate of Bo Luc Lac (beef cubed steak) and it wasnt all that great either. I tried out this place recently with one of my girl friend. Immediately upon entering, I was already uncomfortable. This is obviously one of those place where there are just mainly older Vietnamese guys hanging out. I felt awkward just walking past them to the entrance door of the restaurant. We seated ourselves and were handed the menu shortly. I can see that there are pretty limited options. My friend ordered Bun Bo Hue, and I ordered Hu Tieu Nam Vang. When the food arrived, right away, I was disappointed with mine. The broth already looked like it would be bland. And it was. I started pouring in the fish sauce, big scoops of chili oil, loads of crushed peppers, Hoison sauce, and Red Rooster hot sauce into the concoction. I'm supposed to be enjoying my food. So why did I feel like I was cooking it...? Not to mention, they were quite stingy with the meat. ...AND left me thirstaaaaaay. Nobody bothered to refill the water. The atmosphere here, like what I've said before, felt weird for me personally. I was just very out of place here. My friend and I haven't seen each other for a while and being girls, naturally, we had a ton of things to talk about. So it did not help the way Wonder Cafe would crank up their music SUDDENLY, not only scaring the living hell out of me, but made conversing with my friend very difficult for we had to shout in order to hear one another. Probably would've been made easier if my throat wasn't so dry from being dehydrated. We ended up just cutting it short and left as soon as I was done eating. My friend had already given up on her bowl after a few bites at the beginning, claiming that it was gross. If I were to come back, it would be during the daytime. I hear it's much more calm. This location used to be the old "Tango Cafe" but now renovated and under new management. Still serving coffee, along with the addition of beer, wine, Vietnamese food, and karaoke!!! The manager is super sweet an awesome, was very attentive to my table...the beer and wine was constantly replenish without having to wait. I call that superb service!!! OMG...the food so super bomb, had everything from hot pot, deep friend frog legs, to various Vietnamese salads!!! The food was well seasoned, not too salty or bland, I am super picky with Vietnamese food since I have parents that can cook well. So, I am very happy that the food fit well with my taste buds! ^_^ If you are looking for a nice place to drink, sing, and eat with friends, Wonder Cafe & Restaurant will not disappoint you!!! You can actually talk to the owner about hosting parties, just give the owner 1-2 weeks advance noticed. Came here to hang out with some buddies while in Sacramento. A few things: 1. Beer was really cheap - I think it's $3 a bottle of beer 2. Food was pretty good - We got dry squid and chicken tendons. Very good "nhau" food [drinking food]. 3. Karaoke available. Despite only hearing Vietnamese music, they also have English songs. I sang "I Swear" by All 4 One. 4. Service was good. The secret is out - Wonder Cafe is the best place for banh mi xiu ma (Vietnamese meatball sandwiches)! One sandwich is $3, but go ahead and add an extra meatball for $2 more, it's definitely worth it! The bread is nice and toasted, the veggies are crisp and fresh, and the meatball just melts in your mouth. I usually ask for the extra meatballs on the side so I can dip my sandwich in the gravy/sauce that it comes with. I don't have much to say about the other food. Pretty typical Vietnamese fare. The bar foods are good but a bit expensive as compared to other restaurants in the area (about $13 each). My advice: come for the sandwiches. read more

Ordered the lemongrass chicken w/ "burned" rice (clay pot rice) I liked it! And the service was great! Owner/manager (male, early 30's) was very accommodating. Sounds like a club in here, loud music, karaoke if you want it, ladies in *ahem* hostess outfits, lots of fun and an outgoing environment. During the day it's a regular dining establishment, late night it's an amazing kickit spot! Bring your friends, some cards, dominos lol whatever! We order 2 banh mi xi mai which is a french bread with tomatoes meatballs and 1 milk ice coffee and 1 black ice coffee. I didn't care to much for my meatballs. It didn't taste right. It was dry and tough, so I couldn't finished mine food. The milk ice coffee was good cause it has a nice aroma. Just enough condense milk in it. I like it. Service was bare to none. We seated ourself, then waited till a waitress came out to take our order and that was the first and last encounter we had with the waitress. Pretty smokey out side. This place is the place to satisfy your love for Vietnamese food and coffee. Came in for the first time on a Wednesday morning. It is kind of busy. I wasn't sure about what to order, but the waitress was really helpful. They recommended me with a few dishes and I decided to order the pork chop over rice, which turned out wonderful; and the coffee was really good too! (It is kind of strong so for me I had to add a little more condensed milk). The only thing I don't like about this cafe is the music. From a culinary students review i'd give the food about 3 out of 10. My teacher told me that us students have a very good mouth compared to most. also the service was crap. I mean did they even consider even refilling our drinks? in costumer service we were tough to go back to every table every so often(even if we were busy). I mean I had eaten in many places and never had to use yelp, but I had to warn everyone. I had to use a lot excuse me A LOT of condiments. In the food industry we, the customer, shouldn't have to add a lot to make it taste better(it should taste good in the beginning). Wonder Cafe should really look at how much they have to replace because, think about it, if i have to make it taste way better then need be then why should i eat it? To a student of the culinary arts i don't mean to talk trash but, we make better food with leftovers. I grew up with Vietnamese food my whole life and I had better Bun Bo Hue in the country side of Vietnam. In all respects i guess they do try. Disgusting food hygiene. I came from out of town to try this Vietnamese restaurant and haven't been so horrified in my life. I order my food from the menu and everything seems fine. After ordering, my server was handling money with plastic gloves. When the food came, she was still wearing the same glove as she was counting money with. I was polite and suggested to her that she should keep customer's food sanitary. She rebuttal and said she had wash her hands, which was untrue because she hurried to kitchen and brought the dish right away. She went back to her coworker and spoke in their native language and glance at my directions. Feeling uncomfortable with the service given, I paid my bill and left the restaurant and would not be coming back to this restaurant again. read more
