If it wasn't for Yelp, I'd have no idea that Wiseguy Lounge even existed. With all of the options on Mass Ave, I'm more likely to pop in here for the chiller vibe as well as the temptation to order a slice of Goodfellas pizza with my beer. Another perk: the beer selection included some beers that had me asking the staff where it came from. I appreciate Wiseguy offering more than just the usual suspects on tap. Fan of whiskey? This place should be your go-to. Whiskey is growing on me, and this place is to thank for that. They have a wide variety of drinks and cocktails and TONS of whiskey to choose from. It's a speakeasy-type format where you might happen to think it's part of Goodfella's but happens to be its own business. The interior is cozy, dimly lit, and exactly what I think of when I think of whiskey + speakeasy. (EDIT: Biz owner responded and let me know that it is, in fact, a part of Goodfella's!) The service has always been top-notch at this place, both when I've ordered just a beer and the times I've also gotten a cocktails. Most recently, I opted for the Old Fashioned to try out the basics. It was a great cocktail. The prices are what you'd expect from a nicer cocktail lounge: $6 - $10 a cocktail. The have a big selection of craft beers on tap as well. Have them pour you a sample before you order; they've been very accommodating when I've requested a sample in the past. Is this my favorite place to grab a cocktail in the city? No. This is mainly because they specialize in whiskey, and there are times when I'm not looking for whiskey-based drinks. Still, this place is great to come and catch up with friends and maybe even for a date. Most recently, we came in and they were doing a whiskey tasting event where a musician was playing music based on the types of whiskey that they were sampling at the time. This isn't the most likely venue for a bar, but the drinks are great, while the venue itself is tiny but very cute :-) There's a great vibe inside, and a really good selection of cocktails to be had. Wiseguy Lounge is slowly creeping up to be my favorite place to grab a cocktail on Mass Ave... and I'm not even a whiskey drinker! This speakeasy-inspired cocktail bar proclaims, "Bourbon is in our blood!" on their website, but that shouldn't be intimidating for those who are like me--not big whiskey drinkers. The bartenders are knowledgeable and professional and will help you out to find something that you like. For example, my favorite cocktail here is a drink with a name I can't remember (of course), but with a few vague descriptors, my bartender always knows what I'm talking about. They also have a surprisingly varied menu here. The crowns on the menu indicate cocktails that have won awards--start with those. The ambiance is fantastic. It definitely evokes the speakeasy vibe but is more comfortable, with large couches and arm chairs across one wall. Finally, the price-to-quality ratio of the cocktails is fantastic. You get complex, drinkable, hand-crafted cocktails for extremely reasonable prices ($6-10; cheap compared to other cocktail bars in the area). Wiseguy is in the back corner of Goodfellas pizza--so you cannot see it or access it from the street. In other words, this is definitely not the type of place you'd just happen upon, so go look for it! It's worth it. read more

This is my favorite speakeasy to go to, especially when Richard is behind the bar. This gives all the speakeasy vibes you want but with an even more welcoming atmosphere. Tucked around the corner of Goodfellas is this amazing Bourban bar! Walking in you see a long bar to sit at and some nice county leather couches. The vibe was great. Super chill. My friend and I opted to sit at the bar top. The menu is beautifully bound in leather and is quite extensive! I'm not much of a Bourban drinker, but since I was here I thought I might as well try a signature cocktail. I forgot the name of the drink I had, but it was damn good. I remember the menu describes it as "whiskey, coffee, beer." So good! This place just opened less than a week ago and is still working out kinks, but had done a great job it seems. Service was great. They got super busy and there were only two bartenders. The drinks are handcrafted so they take a little longer to make. Definitely worth the wait, but when the place is packed you might wait a little longer than you're used to. The prices seemed pretty reasonable to me. I liked that I could order food from Goodfellas. Not a fan of the cocktail menu at Wiseguy Lounge. So, when we ended up here I ordered a beer. One thing I noticed is that the Saturday night crowd is completely different than the Cincy location, in a good way. The bar is well kept, providing quick service. I might be a sucker for this place and GoodFellas but I seriously enjoy them so much. Like so much! This review is not for Goodfella's though so let me focus on Wiseguy. I have always had a positive experience here when it comes to bartenders. Every bartender has been able to suggest drinks and talk about different drinks if they are not on the menu. I really appreciate it when businesses educate their employees more than their own menu. So shout out to all the bartenders that are able to make a drink not listed on your bar menu. The real reason I love this place so much is that they have this drink called the "bump off joe" and it is wonderful. I sometimes will crave this drink in the morning or after work, or like during the day, basically all the time. If you love creamy liquor and coffee then do yourself a favor and get in your car and drive to Wiseguy and order yourself one. How can anyone hate a mixology bar that literally is located behind a pizza shop? Who does not crave pizza after they have had a few cocktails? Don't lie to yourself... you want pizza. You know you're in bourbon heaven when they hand you a leather bound book and tell you "this is a list of our bourbons, but not ALL of our bourbons". My only wish is that they would have a day shift during the week instead of just on Fridays and Saturdays. Sometimes playing hookie with a glass of bourbon simply MUST happen. I have this posted on Goodfellas too. Didn't realize there was a specific name, but it goes the theme so well. Anyway, this is the same review essentially, but here it is. The real fun didn't start until last night when I decided to finally go back to the bar. I had a misconception that the bar would be outrageously expensive, because it looks so exclusive. I also expected to be underwhelmed. Turns out that I was massively wrong and was just elated by the end of the outing. My friend, David, was having a rough day. My friend, Basma, was looking for some pals to hang out with. I am just thinking this is the longest week in the world here in October 2018. "Wow. What a perfect opportunity to check out that bar behind Goodfellas!" I said. So, I texted them. David finally met me there, as I was slurping down a giant sausage pizza with some ranch like a ravenous monster. We chatted with a coworker of mine for a second and realized it was the time. We go back into a red room with some brown leather couches around. There were a lot of other people having a drink and chat with their buddies. ***NEWSFLASH YOU CAN TAKE YOUR PIZZA BACK THERE*** I had no clue. However, I like the idea of keeping my pizza up in the front and the drinks in the back. Doubt I'll ever intermingle them. We take some seats at the end of the bar and start browsing through the menu. The bartender goes through some of the things with us. We finally choose some drinks under the "Guys and Dolls" section. David gets a "Marilyn Monroe" and I got the "Bette Davis." Both drinks were super great. I honestly started feeling it mid drink. We can tell there was a lot of alcohol in these martini glasses, so we were sipping them slow and watching the Kingsman. Our other friends, Basma and Greylor, show up eventually and got something with mint in it I believe? It was called the bourbon smash or something. Those drinks were pretty delightful too. The bartender was magnificent. It really seemed like for a while he was just one of us and just wants to joke and laugh a little. He watched the Kingsman with us and explained some of our questions about the movie, while staying on top of his job. We found out that we had things in common (we're not really big on hugs and rather be touched by your words), we had a conversation about his elbow tattoo inspired from the Raconteurs and reacted well to some of our jokes. At first, we were a little concerned that we came off like a bunch of morons by our silly banter, but he seemed fine. He was just a stand-up man. We love being charmed. It was really nice to go do something different on Mass Ave in an intimate setting. This would be a great place for a small hangout, a great date (feel free to ask me on one pehehe), hearts-to-hearts or maybe even to have a drink alone (however, it would be better with at least two people). I am sure we will be back. Also, I am literally the biggest idiot in America, because I just saw this is bar is called "Wiseguy Lounge" and I will be copy pasting this second half of the review over there too. But wow. My first visit was not as expected per the reviews I read! 2 bartenders and only 1 was actually working the bar.Even though the place wasn't what I would consider "packed" it was almost 20 minutes waiting until I finally able to order drinks. Yes, the world is short-staffed and I'm patient, waiting for the world to return to normal staffing levels. Honestly, the wait wasn't justified. Both of the drinks were way off key as well! What a nice little place tucked in the back of the pizza place! While out hoofing around downtown I popped in here. Glad I did! They had a great selection from mediocrity to wonderful, from Ocean Aged at Sea (cask, voyage 10) to multiple Whistle pigs, angels envy... quite a wall. Don't see something you are looking for? Ask! There were some bottles that seemed to be hiding. I believe the total was somewhere between 200-300 different whiskeys. While I am more into neat, I was able to try a cocktail they made. It also looked like the pizza could be brought back and consumed. Had just had lunch, so I didn't ask. Bartender was knowledgeable about his craft, seemed to know exactly what he was doing from prepping drinks to sharing information. I'll definitely be sneaking back in here sometime soon. read more

I love the atmosphere of this cozy lounge. Great staff that makes amazing drinks. Their service is 2nd to none. They get pretty busy during dinner time & afterwards for the random night life that comes through, but they don't skip a beat.
