Had a chance to visit the Burnside Inn with a friend recently. I'll give an okay review, because it wasn't MY cup of tea. It's a 3-story house turned bar/lounge/hang-out spot. It seems to be a place where lots of college aged students and those under 30 go. There are room to congregate besides the bars on the 1st and 2nd floors, but everything's narrow and felt crowded very quickly. There was a live band playing music unrecognizable to me. If you grunge rock, you might find yourself quite comfy here. I'd like to come back for their karaoke night on Thursdays, other than that, it's just not my cup of tea. But go check it out and tell me what you think. read more

Okay, I've been sleeping on this place! We were on a pub crawl and stopped here without any prior knowledge. The bartender told us they are known for the mules and they should INDEED BE KNOWN FOR THEIR MULES. No notes. We tried the blueberry, the lavender, and the regular mule and they were all awesome. We also were digging the colonial vibes--it was as though we just got off our Pony Express route and were posting up for a round of beverages. Can't wait to come back to check out the additional floors which open later in the evening! read more

Burnside Inn is my go to place downtown! There are three levels. The first floor has a bar and usually someone id playing the piano. The second floor has a small bar with a stage, where there is usually live music. The third floor has a private room and pool tables. The bartenders always provide great service and make sure you're taken care of! This time we ordered the BIG Moscow mule. You have to have at least 6 people to split it with you. It's $100 and totally worth it! read more

This is a great place to go to hang out with friends, or just to enjoy good drinks and live music. They have a very good drink menu consisting of multiple flavors of mules (their specialty) like lavender and blueberry, but also interesting variations of known drinks, such as a cucumber gin and tonic. The prices are reasonable for what you would expect to pay along mass ave. Right now they are limiting their capacity due to covid, but even if there is a line it does not take very long to get inside. You can pretty much always find a seat to listen to the live music or talk with your friends, or you can hang out on one of their many patios. They have multiple bars and a pool table. A very cool space to just hang out in. read more

The best blueberry Moscow mule I've ever had! The bartender was fast and efficient! They had live music during the night we were there with someone playing the piano and it seemed like the whole crowd was cheering and singing together. read more

Very bummed after a poor service experience. We love coming here and we're coming for my 30th birthday after lunch. We waited for opening at 2:00, they opened the doors at 2:10 which was fine but when my dad entered and let us know the doors were open, the bartender told him to "turn the energy down, I just woke up." This was such a bummer to have this service and felt like we were very unwanted there. We ended up leaving and won't be back so our "energy, isn't too much" we took it somewhere else read more

I'll be honest, I had never noticed this place before. But it's a great little bar from what I experienced. I think they have a second floor and a patio but it was closed when we were there on a Saturday afternoon. They're known for their mules and I love a good mule! I tried the strawberry fields mule and it was delicious. Not too sweet but definitely a hint of strawberry. The drinks are expensive though. $9 for my mule! read more

This is the place for an awesome MoscowMule. They have so many different options for flavors too. The bartenders here are great too no issues and they knock some drinks out fast. The location is awesome too only downside it is small and when they get busy it's tight. Give this place a try for sure. read more

Best Old Fashioned you can find in Indy!!! The smoked old Fashioned is only $12 and you not only get the best cocktail in Indy but such a great atmosphere. Reminds you of a speak easy without the hassle of trying to get in. We usually have the same bartender who knows how to put on a great show while putting out the top of the line drinks. There are 3 floors but the main level is where all the magic happens. There is no food here so make sure to fill up at Bakersfield or Slapfish before coming to get your drink on. read more

A 3 story dive that houses live music and is known for their mules. Sorry-no food. A great spot to visit on a weekend where you're hoping to hear a band or piano music. Lots of bar seating, even though it's essentially a row house. They have an odd variety of pictures and knickknacks so always something to look at while you have a drink. The miles are their things. Moscow mules, Kentucky mules, you name It. They have the copper mugs and lots of them for everyone to enjoy. read more

We almost never have a bad experience here. It's a super cool spot right next to the eagle which makes it a perfect combination. Go to the eagle and put your names in. While you wait head on over to burnside and grab a few drinks. The first floor is open and there is a nice patio. After 7 the second and third floor open. There is usually a live band on floor 1. DJ or live band on floor 2 and then speaker music on floor 3. Floor 3 features a pool table in a secluded little section which is great for your group of friends. Drinks are strong and made well on each floor. read more

This space is just so darn cute! Burnside Inn is tucked quietly between some much more familiar businesses on Mass. It's unassuming facade hides a pleasant surprise. Walk in the door, and go back in time to a 1900's style, three story house. The space has been made over to three levels of fun, with a traditional bar on the first floor (normally featuring a pianist), a more upbeat space on the second floor, where you're likely to find a DJ, and a lounge & game room on the uppermost floor. Each floor has it's own unique charm and delightful decor. The staff at Burnside are quite friendly, and the drinks are quite good. I definitely recommend a stop at Burnside Inn. There's even karaoke on Wednesdays! read more

The most RUDE bartenders we have ever encountered anywhere. Saturday night Burnside is open until 3am. We just arrived in Indy late that night had an enough time for a few cocktails and already planned on getting some food and heading to Burnside for drinks. The bouncer was dealing with some rift raft and told us we could go in. We were looking forward to having some drinks and going back to this bar the next night. We were met by rude dismissive bartenders. We were intentionally ignored by a tall intoxicated male bartender. He immediately said we were late and he was in no hurry to serve us as he served others around us and did shots with customers. We said nothing and continued to wait as he went and stood at register and didn't come back. He was clearly serving himself that Saturday night. The other bartender also very very rude! We waited patiently standing at the bar while others were served by the other bartender. This bartender was brunette mid thirties wearing bun on top of her head. She made zero eye contact with us so we thought she did not see us. Without making eye contact she yelled "I see you! Give me some time!" was how she reacted without either of us saying a word just me holding out card on bar. We were in shock. We have been there a few times and we were completely dumbfounded by the service. We should have walked out and probably would have if we didn't walk across town to go to this place. I'm unsure why we were treated so poorly. We were there to spend money and planned on returning the next night. So disappointed. I'm still wondering what we did to to be treated so poorly. read more

I'm only giving it 4 Stars now because it was my first visit. Hoping to get back there and taste the food. I loved the atmosphere and am intrigued by this 3-story facility. We didn't get to go upstairs because it was too early. From 5-7 you can only get cocktails which was fine with us so we tried a few of their mule varieties. I got the fruity one which was called muddy something or other. The name completely threw me off. The bartender Justin was nice and guided through the menu, gave suggestions and answered any questions we had. It's a good place to go after work and chill with a friend. The downstairs were pretty much 2-seater bar tops where there were more seats at the bar itself. Go and enjoy! read more

I am such a huge fan of Burnside Inn! Hands down one of the most unique bars I've ever been to. It has kind of a speakeasy feel when you first walk in, especially since the entrance is easy to miss as you walk down the street. Burnside has two upper floors that give you the impression of being in someone's apartment, which makes sense given that someone used to live there. The second floor bar is actually a kitchen. There's a fire escape area that's open to patrons too. Something about this arrangement makes the place even more appealing to me. The third floor has a pool table and a sort of parlor room, which is nice for a group of friends to take over and escape a little from the rest of the noise. Note: the extra floors aren't open Monday or Tuesday. There's always action at Burnside. A pianist comes in to provide live music, Wednesday night is karaoke night (complete with a stage!), comedy shows, and more. But what really keeps me coming in here is the Pineapple Express. I can't leave the place without ordering at least 2. And on Thursdays, they're $6! If pineapple isn't your jam, they offer a host of other mules that are also quite good. Also offered is a giant 192oz mule meant for sharing between 6 people. Haven't tried this yet but I'm waiting for the day. PS - Yes, "Burnside" is related to "sideburns". There's a lot of stuff stuck to the ground on the outdoor roof top floor and there was hot air being blown up from the air conditioning machine outside. The ambiance was nice inside though. There is a pool table and a blue room with a couch to lounge in. The drinks come in fun cups. read more

A fun bar on Mass Ave! I got the burnside bourbon - on special on fridays for $5! It was a great deal for a good bourbon. The rest of the group tried one of the mules. Hubs got the dead boots! It was great. There are three floors to explore- usually live music on 2 of them. We had someone singing and playing the piano by where we sat on the first floor. It's eclectic and fun- a great vibe for Mass Ave bars! read more

Joined a few friends here while we waited for a table for a restaurant nearby. I was only here for a few minutes. The ambience was somewhat casual with a room full of pop culture references. There was trivia going on Thursday nights. The main floor can get quite cramped. I definitely want to check it out during the weekends. read more

I thought this place was extremely awesome! I had never been there before, but decided to check it out when they were hosting a free comedy show (I think they do it monthly). This place is three levels with a neat vibe on each floor. The first floor it made to look like an 1880's hotel lobby, the second floor has a small stage and another bar. This is wear the comedy show was. The third floor has an old fashion living room and a room with a pool table. I really liked this place and recommend it to all! read more

This is a nice spot to stop in and chill. If you are a fan of Moscow mules, you will enjoy the variety of flavors they offer. I've never been a big fan of them, but I like that I could try different versions of them with new flavors infused. I enjoyed the strawberry fields mule. The decor inside is nice, and as a bonus, you can go upstairs and explore more cool areas. On a Wednesday I discovered they do karaoke, which was a fun surprise. On the third floor there is a nice lounge room and another room with a pool table. Great for friends or a date. read more

On a bar hop, Burnside Inn was the next stop. It's quite narrow going in, but the atmosphere is cool. ID is checked the moment you walk in and then the bartender can serve you. I was kind of surprised that they don't have *any* food here. You have to order from an app on your phone. It was weird and I was really needing food at this time but whatever. The cool thing about Burnside Inn is that the second floor is a karaoke station and the third floor is a pool table lounge. The place was pretty dead on a Wednesday night but my friend and I had fun playing pool. The bartender and other employees were pretty friendly. They've got a lot of moscow mule drinks here and I recommend the strawberry twist one. It's kinda strong at first but nothing a little mixing can't fix. read more

Went for my birthday this past weekend with my friends. The ambiance was incredible. Such a cool and well decorated place. I love how each story gives a different feel to the place. The drinks were well priced and the bartenders were on the money. It's was a Saturday night at like 10pm and very crowded. Not very fun when it's packed because you feel like you can't move because the place is so narrow. I'm also a little claustrophobic so that also contributed to it. I will definitely come back at a less busy time. I think I will enjoy it more then. read more

If you enjoy Moscow Mules this is your SPOT! The Burnside Inn is pinched in between The Eagle and Stouts Shoes on Mass Ave. Don't blink while walking by or you will miss the entrance! The entrance might lack in size but this bar has a huge personality! The specialty drink is the mule and there are many tasty flavors. The Pineapple mule and the strawberry mule seem to be popular choices. They also have a huge Mule cup that holds 10 lbs of the good stuff! If you get 10 lb drink please share and drink responsibly lol! There are 3 floors and each has its own bar. The first floor is the main bar which also leads out back to a patio/beer garden. The second floor is home to the Wednesday night Karaoke equipped with a mini performance stage! The third floor has some nice seating and a pool table! If you get a little hungry in between mules the Burnside is closely linked with Cluster Truck food delivery who will deliver a wide selection of tasty items directly to the door! Burnside Inn is three floors of greatness where anytime of drinker can enjoy the atmosphere. First floor bar has a piano and live music; second floor another bar and more live music; third floor is chill with billiards and another floor to hang and sip their delicious mules. They have a great variety of mules as well as plenty of cocktails and beers. Next time you visit Mass Ave. add this spot to your date night list. read more

I really enjoy going to Burnsides. It is a small, intimate place that is very fun to be at early in evening. The bartenders are very kind and friendly. Each floor has a different aesthetic. They have great specials throughout the week. On the weekends it can get very crowded, so if you aren't a fan of that.. don't go on the weekends. Great place, I would recommend. read more

I got the strawberry mule and my husband got the lavender mule. Both delicious, full of alcohol, and great value for the price! This is my new favorite spot for drinks. What a fun new gem on mass ave! It almost transports you. For sure does not have the stereotypical "I'm on Mass Ave" feel - and i mean that in the best way possible. Upon arriving around 6:30 only the downstairs main floor was open. Full of classic paintings with a twist, bottles and draft beer, a plethora of mules (including one that is 192oz!) and live music. A pleasant piano man was up while we were there. General Burnside is the inspiration for this establishment - and his face, the one which made side burns famous, is evident throughout. There are two additional floors (which hit a capacity throughout the evening). An additional bar on the 2nd floor (which a refrigerate of tall boys for $3.50! And ice cream Sandwiches) a stage for live music and a 3rd floor with two additional private type rooms - one with a pool table. Be sure to get here early on in the evening and explore the whole building. I'll be back! read more

Burnside Inn, named after a Hoosier Ambrose Burnside, is a neat little spot for the music loving mule drinker. From the window, it's noticeably "cozy" and dim lit. When you walk in, hello piano! Initially, you're downstairs of a multi level bar; although not always open Burnside has a patio and an upstairs bar. Mules are clearly Burnside's specialty, you can even get a Massive Mule for 6 ("10lbs of liquid joy" they say). On the menu, and around the bar, you'll notice lots of music references in the naming... Beatles fan? Try the Blueberry Hill and Strawberry Fields.... Bad to the Bone? Yes! I could go on and on... This new(er) spot on Mass Ave has been many things before (e.g. a place to get shaped up (see the bar pole in the window), but now it's a place to get a good mule, see some quirky things, maybe catch some live local music, and check out a new spot. Ps -Come on "Winey Wednesday" for 1/2 priced bottles of wine and Open Mic Night. read more

Can't say enough how much I like this addition to Mass Ave. While the Avenue is bustling with bars, Burnside made a niche for themselves in that they specialize in Mule cocktails and tasty ones at that. Don't worry if you don't care much for the traditional Moscow Mule because they have at least a dozen variations using all different types of liquor. The price is reasonable and average for Mass Ave. The ambiance is a shotgun room and exposed brick with a nod to the entertainment industry as seen by the pictures and decor boasting entertainment icons most people will recognize. There are multiple floors, and they have theme events scheduled such as Tiki Bar for New Year's. The narrow space holds a small number of bar seats as well as high top tables along the wall, and it can fill up quickly. I am definitely looking forward to my next visit. read more

The Indy Star dubbed this place 'eclectic' and 'sexy'. WTF, Indy?!?!? This place is far, far from either of those things. Oh, wow, a moscow mule. So eclectic! Sexy is not a Colonel wearing aviator sunglasses. A picture of James Dean posing with a cow is only midly sexy (yes, hanging on the wall on the second floor). I am happy there's another live music place on Mass Ave besides the Chatterbox. But yeeesssh.... people, please actually listen to the music. I felt awful for the two gentleman playing Saturday night. They were great and no one was listening! Even if they were listening... the acoustics don't seem to be the best. Each floor isn't very wide and it's quite cramped. I'm also not sure what the purpose of part of the third floor is that has one couch and a TV in it. Basically it's a wasted space. The service wasn't stellar. My friends joined our table (which we didn't have chairs for and were standing around because others took all the chairs) and the server came up to take our empty glasses but didn't bother to ask if they/we needed anything when they clearly just arrived. Also, same friends got up to use the restroom and a server took their not-yet-empty drinks!!! Took them right from under my noise while I was watching the performers. Couldn't they have at least asked??? Overall, this place annoyed me - the patrons, the claustrophobic space. read more

Fun bar in a renovated old building that specializes in Moscow mules. I went on a Tuesday and although the upper floors were closed, the bar tender and atmosphere were great. The pineapple mule had a great floral undertone to it, and the pineapple taste was understated yet delicious. I'd love to come back to check out the patio and music upstairs, but even for a slow night Burnside was a winner. read more

So I happened upon this place by word of mouth, a group of friends invited me out and I had never heard of it.. but was immediately intrigued. You walk in, and there's a guy playing the piano and a small yet full service bar. Go up a flight of stairs and there's a separate floor that's like a hipster house with a hipster girl jamming on a uke.. but don't be lazy and stop on the second floor go up to the 3rd because you might happen upon Luna lovegoods dads twin jamming on the guitar.. my favorite room is what I kick named the green room, it has wallpaper you want to touch and overlooks mass ave.. our waitress was great! Make sure you bring 6 good pals and get the big Moscow mule.. you won't regret it! Will certainly be back to the burnside it... also research what burnsides are for a good chuckle read more

My partner got the Morning Ritual and it was super tasty. 10/10 on the cocktails. I think we would have had a way better experience had we not been forgotten in the corner and baking in the sun. We really got that excuse because the sandwich was clearly premade many MANY hours (possibly the day) before and to remove the pickles would not do anything to remove the pickle flavor which at that point had seeped into the sandwich. This may be Indy but not everyone is a gringo with no knowledge of spanish food and/or the fear to question such a bonkers statement. You're also not Julian Slowik, and asking to not have what is essentially a condiment on a sandwich should not be a issue unless you've got an (unwarranted) inflated ego, or, as I said, the sandwich was premade so long ago that removing the pickles would not matter re: pickle flavor. The effing gall. Strange Bird in Irvington has fantastic ramen and wonderful tiki drinks, fyi.

My husband wasn't expecting the somewhat unique preparation of the breakfast potatoes, but I found them to be satisfyingly crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. I also ordered the seasonal Strawberry Margarita with a sugar rim. It was light and refreshing. The atmosphere is very chic, stylish and feels very upscale.
