For a while, I liked going here for my regular coffee run. However, the quality has gone down and had a terrible experience with someone who made my coffee the last time I went. I order two cappuccinos one with non-fat milk and one with oak milk due to diet restrictions. When I received my coffee I ask which cappuccino was which and the lady who made the coffee said one was oat and one was regular milk and I asked if the "regular one" was non-fat milk as I had order and she rudely said "yeah it is". Once we tried our coffees we both realized we had received half empty coffees with full fat milk. This was upset due to the emphasis we put on the type of milk we wanted. I would not recommend this place anymore!! and I'm deeply annoyed I wasted 16 bucks on expensive coffee that was subpar and completely wrong! read more

Just stopped here to get out of the sun to cool off with an ice tea and what an amazing iced tea it was. Strawberry and basil ice tea with just the barest touch of either the give it a very unique and refreshing profile. My wife had a different iced tea flavor which I can't remember but it was pretty refreshing and unique. Pleasant, Indian inspired interior. I can't give a place five stars on the basis of a single iced tea but it made quite an impression when I was in town and I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area. read more

Excellent little cafe that feels like a nice neighborhood place, they have branches around the city. I ordered the Americano (large) which was big and STRONG: I had half of it and felt my head exploding so I had to stop. Next time I will get a small! (I think they had 4 espresso shots in it). It was light and not too sweet which is exactly what I wanted. I paid $5 with tax for a medium so it is a bit pricey but it's also the location. Overall great place. read more

This is a great spot to hang out with your laptop and sip on a cup of coffee. I love supporting local, independent businesses over places like Starbucks whenever I can help it. Choosing Cafe Descartes to do my work for the afternoon was a no-brainer. The decor is awesome. It features the pictures of many famous philosophers. So inventive and whimsical. I don't know if it was just the day we were there, but everyone was very quietly working on their laptops. While we had initially wanted to meet there to catch up with each other, we got a few dirty looks from people tapping away on their laptops, so we felt too awkward being the only ones talking. As a result, we opted to follow the crowd and worked on our reading/laptops. I ordered a drink that took a REALLY long time to be ready. As I was finally walking over to see if the drink had been forgotten, then the barista announced it was ready. The hot chai tea was VERY good. Easily one of my favorites around the suburbs and city, which came to me as a complete surprise. Our time there was unfortunately cut short because it randomly closed at 5 for some kind of private event/dinner, which I found to be a sort of weird thing for a cafe. I was very unhappy with my experience at Wise Cup. I ordered a coffee with milk and a cappuccino. But I was told that the milk cost more than the coffee, so I couldn't just get coffee with milk, I had to pay extra for a "cafe au lait". I placed my order and went to wait for my drinks, and I waited over ten minutes and then finally asked for my drinks, and the girl said, "whoops! I forgot!" When I finally got my cappuccino it was burnt. I was very unhappy with the service, the quality of the coffee, and the idea that the milk cost more than the coffee I was ordering, the the extent that I had to pay more for a "cafe au lait" just to have milk in my coffee? I also found the decor, the paintings of different races on the wall offensive. Especially the painting of the Japanese man, as his eyes were crossed. All around, I would buy my coffee somewhere else. read more

The coffee will put hair on your chest! The pastries look good but they are very common (donuts, muffins). I think in order to stand out from the big boys, you need unique pastries. Also the place desperately needs music and free WiFi. Otherwise, the shop is beautiful. read more

I try to support as many independent businesses as I can, as long as they have good food, service, atmosphere and at a worthwhile price and this one makes the cut for me. They were training some new staff when I went in, but the place is nice. Friendly staff, tasty coffee, free wifi and places to get work done, I'll take it! The place was a little small, I think there are 5 tables max in there, with only 1 accommodating 4 people, so I can imagine it might be hard to find a place to sit when it's busy. I had a red eye, which was served in a "for here" mug and came out strong and hot, which was perfect for the overcast day. I didn't interact with the staff much, but they were friendly enough and it's a nice place to drop into for a while if you've got time to kill in downtown Oak Park. read more

Wise Cup will be my new go-to coffee shop because they served me good latte, the barista was polite, the classical music was perfect on this rainy May Day afternoon, the conversations among the visitors were minimal (can't speak for everyday), the similar yet dissimilar portraits of famous philosophers from around the world staring at you when you are sipping coffee forces you to do wise things (read or converse meaningfully), and etc that I may have missed. I was having a crappy day, I still am, but I do not feel so bad any more. I plan to visit here next weekend again. We stopped in on the first blustery day of the fall for a hot chocolate and pumpkin spice latte. The owners were so sweet to my kid and served him up and extra dreamy looking hot chocolate. We hung out for an hour and the owners were very personable and genuinely interested in making their place welcoming. It sounds like they just took over ownership here and have big plans. This coffee shop is a great addition to downtown oak park. It is quite small inside with only a few tables. The menu is regular coffee house plus an Indian twist. They had homemade samosa and an enticing looking lentil dish. We just had coffee. It took a while to come up but was prepared just right. Bathrooms were clean. Service was friendly. Although it is quite small, the space doesn't feel crowded or rushed. Easy parking in 2 nearby garages or surface lots. read more
