*HATE INCIDENT occurred and then reported to police 1/14/23 ~ 10:50pm: Summary: I was harassed and racially targeted by a patron (blonde "biker chick" as noted by the bar back), and then shortly after by the head bartender, when I was minding my own business with my partner and after reporting it to bar management in real time, the head bartender (named Christina I think, she was blonde wearing a black beanie, around 10:50pm) went out of her way to confront me after I had already exited the building with my partner upon reporting the issue, and became loud/rude/dismissive/defensive in the street and yelled at me "if you were going to use the RACE CARD, at least tell me what happened" which I was literally trying to but she kept interrupting me and got extremely defensive, and screamed "BITCH" at me after a few minutes of not listening and told me "don't bother ever coming back, you're not welcome here!" when I tried to explain to her what happened. So read this and continue being aware of the type of people around you, and always look out for your safety. I was one of a couple people of color left at the bar at that time, and seemed to really stick out as a target apparently. Be careful, be aware, and stay safe. This place employs shameful bigoted staff apparently. I reported the incident to police early the next morning, who by first amendment rights couldn't legally do anything, but said as a human this behavior was not acceptable and encouraged me to let people know. And, that's what I'm doing. This was HARASSMENT by a patron and then by the bar's management towards me, with both of them going out of their way to single me out and target me, and it felt incredibly racially charged given their direct language, verbal and non-verbal, and given who was present at the bar at the time. ----- More details: Relatively newer in town and went to Winters 1/14/23 with my partner to check out the spot out of curiosity since they still had a little lit xmas tree out in the front, and it was a long weekend. Got there around 8:15pm, listened to some local live bands, and started playing shuffleboard without incident until around 10:30pm. A blonde "biker chick" (as described by the bar back) got into my face unprovoked as I was gathering my pucks on one side of the shuffleboard, finishing up a game with my boyfriend. That side of the shuffleboard I was on was not crowded and my partner (standing on the other side of the shuffleboard) saw her dancing on the dance floor and go out of her way to get right into my face, leaning over the shuffleboard crowding my space, and made a couple rude and aggressive comments at me with very aggressive body language, including "if you would have asked, I would have moved", and the whole thing felt incredibly racial to me and I felt targeted. I did not respond to her and she moved away. I finished up the game with my partner, gathered our belongings, and asked the male bar back (older gentleman), who was available, what the bar's policy on racism is. The male bar back immediately said they don't tolerate it, asked me who did it (this is when I was describing the person and he asked me if it was a "biker chick" looking person) and went to tell the head bartender. I then saw the biker chick again at the bar and pointed it out that it was her. I saw the bar back then go talk to the head bartender who was a woman with dirty blonde hair and wearing a black beanie. My partner and I exited the establishment at this point. As we were exiting the building and already a block away from Winters, my partner and I hear someone yelling after us. We stop and it's the head bartender woman with the beanie stopping us and wanting to know what happened. I tried telling her, but she had also been drinking during the evening and kept interrupting me while I was trying to explain what happened from my view, was incredibly dismissive and defensive, and kept saying things like "if you're going to use the RACE CARD, I want to know what happened" and then proceeded not to listen to me, gaslighting my experience, continued to be defensive, and then seemed to get frustrated at one point since she refused to actually listen to me, and then yelled "BITCH!" at me turned around and screamed "you're not welcome back here!" and walked away back to the bar. My partner, who is white passing, witnessed the whole exchange. Unfortunate circumstances took me back to this bar last night. I went to attend a show that was supposed to be outside but was inside instead. There was ZERO mask enforcement. ZERO crowd enforcement. The bartenders were over serving their drunk friends, and walking through the crowd without their masks. I really hope the pandemic is coming to an end, but if it isn't, it will be because of places like Winter's Tavern. read more

A no-frills bar with an awesome stage. Great location, great drinks, live music, and good handling of a particular asshole customer. Myself. They opened Saturday, met a lovely bartender named Lola who chatted with me as I drank bloody mary's and ate Mexican food. This particular place in Pacifica is among the most scenic places I've personally ever seen, so the trek to get the food was a very pleasurable one. I decided to go back Sunday. Well Sunday, the most beautiful bartender I have ever seen was working (Megan), and I had previously chatted with her at another bar, so I started bantering with her, drinking more, flirting with her, drinking more, went on a hike, flirted some more, bought her friends a round, and somewhere after sprained my wrist, presumably was led to my car with my keys in the bar, and fell asleep in my car. What a jerk, right? Well, I get worse. I work the next morning, so I somehow get back to my apartment without my keys or car, and call the bar. There was this big misunderstanding that happened, I show up and am not able to get my stuff, end up almost getting into a fight about it with an employee (who stood his ground and looked pretty tough), left, come back to finally get my stuff, apologize to him but was a little jerky with the manager, and left again. Through it all, they were very professional, and handled a frustrating situation to both people like champs, but weren't taking any guff from me either. If you want a bar with hardworking, good human beings, go to this bar. If you want to be a jerk like I was, save them the trouble and go somewhere else. I only hope I can go back eventually and this fades. 5/5 would go again. read more

This place is a godsend for the entire indie music scene in the Bay Area. Musicians have dwindling places to play live. This one has easy load in and a green room for costume changes and warming up. Yes there's no place to put gear downstairs. Backline!! And you have to set the PA yourself sometimes. As a woman I feel comfortable going there to see music on my own. Friendly but not too friendly. Crowd is enthusiastic and lots of people like to dance. It reminds me of the great clubs we used to go to in Denver many years ago. And I like a nice IPA! Always had prompt nice bartenders. I wish I could like this place higher but as much as I try I really can't find positive things about it. Winter's is located far away from pretty much everything you can think of, the staff is not really friendly and the drink menu is expensive. Even worse, the bar is always empty (well, sometimes there are a few regulars that are boring as hell and some of them area real creeps). I wish this was different, I really wish there were more young people frequenting this place, but Pacifica does not seem to have many young people so I expect Winter's to remain the same for life. It's a bit ironic that I went to high school a block from this place and I have never known this bar ever existed and tonight, a junior/high school classmate took me here. PBR on tap, yeah! And only $2.25/pint :-)! It was very interesting watching people play with the shuffleboard -- they were really getting into it. We got a bowl of fresh popped popcorn as we enjoyed our beers. I am curious about the $3.50 special available everyday which includes an ice-cold PBR, hot dog and chips. Guy #2 said that the hot dog is not that good, but for $3.50, it's worth a try. There's a poster up on the bar that says this: WHAT YOU SEE HERE, WHAT YOU HEAR HERE, WHAT YOU SAY HERE, WHAT YOU DO HERE, WHEN YOU LEAVE, LET IT STAY HERE. I just met up with a friend early Monday afternoon so not surprisingly no live band and just a few people there but music was still coming out of the speakers. Bartender guy was very friendly and patiently answered a few of my beer questions. No dogs allowed inside but they felt at home in the back patio. This is a music venue that still appreciates original music by musicians who are trying to "pay their dues" and work on their craft. They book bands based on their musicianship, not on "how many people can you bring in?" This means that you can go there on a Fri or Sat night and at least 2 out of the 3 bands will be very good (or working on getting good) and most of the time, all 3 bands are good. Nowadays, most venues only book bands based on how many people they can bring to the venue - so you end up with amateur bands with "Bob from Accounting" and "Kathy from Purchasing" playing covers for all their co-workers who only came to see their friends butcher the music. Big props to the bartender who gave us 2 pr of earplugs when we forgot ours - I love live music, but I'm 61 years old and I'd like to preserve some of my hearing - not saying it was too loud for everyone else, but it was too loud for me and we were so thankful that there were free earplugs available for the "old-fogies" who still like to rock on :-) read more

When I was 12, I sneaked inside the neighborhood bar, just into the entryway. It only had that one tiny tinted window that so many dives used to have, and I wanted to see what it looked like. Well Winters Tavern is it's twin. Dark dirty carpeting, pool table, few tables, mostly bar and the fermented smell of so much spilled beer. My friend G and I have a project to go to ever bar between Pacifica and Pescadero. She often likes to order obscure drinks, but when she asked about the "craft cocktails" noted on their website, the bartender, said, "well we have imported beer." Anyway, she had a great personality. Looked like mostly older surfer types frequent it, I love the character, authenticy. I've heard it used to be raunchier in the old days. Our beer crawl project is way behind schedule. We don't go often enough, and who knew there were so many bars. Sometime we end up doing revisits, just for more in depth research, and Winters might warrant it. Different stuff going on every night, friendly people. There is NOTHING else going on in Pacifica like this. Classic dive, but not a hole. Fun stuff on the walls. Vintage light fixtures abound. Easy drive from San Francisco. Former staff with attitude have been replaced by friendly people happy to suggest a tap beer and they have cups for sampling. The selections change weekly, often with a small batch craft beer they may not be familiar with, but they're happy to help you find one you like. "No Crap On Tap" is their moto, so you won't find Budweiser or Miller, so don't expect generic beer prices. Craft beers cost bars more... way more. Go to Safeway for the pedestrian stuff. read more

Walked into some Slayer/Godsmack on the jukebox for a foggy Friday Pacifica evening. Some folks at the bar, some folks on the pool table, some folks on the shuffleboard. They got Beer Pong on Tuesdays. Actually a whole lotta Slayer and Alice in Chains. That kinda music summed the crowd and vibe up. As we walked in everyone kinda just stared at us for awhile. I go to winters about three times a week. I have a ton of friends there because I'm from Pacifica. I've brought people there that are some what anti-social but, they to have survived. Just go on a night somethings going on. Tuesdays I realized there are a bunch of people before 9:30pm. It's kind of a starting ground for a few friends of mine that sing karaoke in burlingame tuesday nights. Wednesday Nights are packed usually by about 9:30pm - 10:00pm. Sheila's Karaoke Fun House is the KJ that night. It's usually the same people every week besides the one or two people passing through our town or working on the tunnel. Friday Nights are my favorite...there's an open mic. They have a house band. Ask for Ralph if you want to sing. He plays the guitar. I have my favorite 5-6 songs I like to sing. They are really good at letting others get up and play...actually if you know the songs they are more than willing to allow new people to play. Don't think it's a favorites or locals only spot. Winters get's crowed about 10:30pm. Sunday Nights Sheila's Karaoke Fun House packs Winters with lots of regulars. I perfer that night. Wednesday's just started about two months ago so, I think more people go to sundays show. They have free popcorn, AWSOME bartenders, great crowd, lots of room, a pool table and 2 dart boards in the back room, and a shuffle board. The bathrooms are usually clean until towards the end of the night but, everyone usually picks up after themselves around Pacifica. There's one stall for the mens and one for the women. They have a full stage you need to step onto to sing. The sound system is good and they just took the part of the 100 year old bar that pops out and made it straight like the rest of the bar to make for more room. People smoke outside in the parking lot or out by the front door. Most of us are smokers so if you smoke you shouldn't have a problem finding a smoking buddy. When the bar closes at 2am there is nothing to do in Pacifica. Have a cab called already, a hotel paid for, or a friend that's willing to take you home. The cops in this town are bored and will find you if your drinking and driving. Not to mention we've lost a few friends in the past two years to drunk driving so it's no joke out here. Please be careful and enjoy our town. read more

I went here to support my boyfriend who was performing one night. What to think of Winters.......????? Okay, so overall everyone is pretty nice, but they look super tough like biker bar tough. But I'm sure that is just your local Pacifica people being themselves. I was offered a free drink and a dance from two different guys. The dancing guy wouldn't take no for an answer, he said in his super drunken state, "You're at Winters honey, you dance at Winters." Somehow I got out of that hot mess. My favorite was the bartender with the long beard and tats. He is a sweetheart. Helped me discover a drink I never knew I liked and he was nice to all the band mates who wanted to redeem their drink tickets. The other bartender, younger, was more of a bully when it came to the band drink tickets. The have a pool table, and shuffle puck. Read that there are darts, but I didn't dare walk towards the back. Stayed in my safe spot. Oh, I really liked their free popcorn, it has a pepper kick to it. First time visiting for a concert we arrived about an hour before the show started. Free popcorn, free pasta, sports on the TV, great jukebox, and drink specials. Cool locals hanging out. I'm a huge fan of Winters. The bartenders have always been friendly. "No crap on tap" is one of their catchphrases, and they always have a few brews worth getting in one sitting. There is a good whiskey and scotch assortment, as well. Perhaps I haven't met the bartender whom was mentioned in a review from this June, but I've had a positive experience with everybody. If you don't know anybody, it's a fine place to chill on a standard night. If you want to meet people, I'd assume you could do that. The atmosphere is relaxed. I've been once on karaoke night. While I wasn't motivated to participate, it looked fun! I have übered/lyfted to and from this location from HMB just to find something different every now and then! read more

This is the type of nightmare bar you see on Bar Rescue. Bar tender can make a canned beer but anything else you're better off saving your money on. Even the most basic cocktails (at least the one the bar tender even knew how to make) was the worst I've ever had. No pour control AT ALLLLLL especially on syrups and super duper inconsistent on alcohol pours. If I ever go back, which would only be for the live music, I'll be sticking with the luke warm water. read more
