Dented bumper replacement-via insurance company. 1st part installation/terrible. Didn't fit properly/billed my insurance company (4) times for additional money and then charged me for 2nd part/paint and install. After being payed by vendor for both parts painting/install. Over 3 month period Winks reimbursed me part of what I paid out of pocket. This is NOT a trustworthy company and will take advantage of customers who attempt to bring business to "local" businesses instead of dealerships. Very disappointed with their lack of honesty and customer care. One employee was great-she's the lead bodywork appraiser. Other than that, i would not recommend this company to anyone. Especially people of color. Which I am btw. Very much felt dismissed when I registered my complaint about the initial repair. read more

The best part was they let me store my car there for over a month while I found a wrecked car buyer. I doubt they'd advertise that or explicitly allow it, but it was due to inaction and I appreciated it. Worst part was the estimate for repairs. It was clearly missing some major work on the engine interior (which they admitted to not including), and one item on the estimate said "see footnote" for price, but there was no footnote (???) and it was an airbag, so I'm sure it wasn't cheap, and I'm sure the rest of it was a bit overpriced. I didn't go through with it since that totaled it. Overall, they were pretty nice to me, friendly service, and they let me pick up my car close to closing, which was nice of them. read more

I got a small dent in my front fender of my 02' sedan. It's very obviously a "beater" that no reasonable person would sink money into. The salesperson said they would fix the fender for "real cheap," and they'll order "aftermarket parts" to reduce the price. The quote? $1,100, half the value of the car. According to the quote, the part only cost Wink's $90. But the quote had a million other charges... a fee for taking my headlights out... a COVID fee... a fee for repainting my door... a fee for repainting my hood... buddy, I just want the fender replaced. I walked right out. So, I went to a different shop, and they got the dent out free of charge in about two hours . There's a small scratch from the crowbar, but it looks just fine. Based on their other reviews, it seems like Winks pushes these miscellaneous "fixes" on customers irrespective of the customers' needs. read more

My car slipped on snow and the tire crashed into the curb. I called Wink's and was able to drop off my car the next day to have it looked at. I filed a claim with my insurance and information was transferred with no problems. The receptionist is soft spoken but very nice. She didn't know all the answers to the questions I had, but she always made sure she got the answer for me! This place is also in a convenient location across the street from Enterprise, so I didn't even have to Uber anywhere. Ruby gave me my estimate, she is a very clear communicator. When I came to sign papers, Ruby wasn't there at that moment but another lady was more than willing to go out to my car with me to explain exactly what was going to be fixed (because I asked for clarification). My car had to be in the shop for a week. Mid-week, Joe called and notified me that another tire part was rusty and worn out and gave me an estimate. We played phone tag a few times just for me to get the estimate but it was also because I was in class so it was hard for us to get on the phone but when I called back, they were able to give me the estimate over the phone for this part and I told them to proceed. I picked my car up and on my way home, noticed a weird metallic scraping noise on the side where my tire was fixed. I called and they told me they could check it out the next day. I came in the next day and I explained the problem to a guy named Brad, who came out to my car with me and speculated what the problem(s) could be. When Joe was available, we took my car for a drive around the block and he was able to identify the potential source of the weird noise--he even showed me and explained to me the workings of the tire/brakes and all the possible places the noise could be coming from. I'm also one to ask a lot of questions, and he's great with explaining. He scraped off some rust and lightly moved a few parts at no cost. I drove home in smooth silence :) I appreciate the people here, they work hard and provide great service. All very nice and friendly people! Not to be trusted. 1) Fraudulent? They billed me for all the parts/labor on the insurance estimate - but revealed later that they had not actually replaced one of the parts at all. Offered "discount" that consisted of work not performed. 2) Poor Communications! They ripped out a brand new exhaust system, despite admitting it looked new, without calling me to check. Made me pay for unnecessary work. 3) Poor Customer Service: shop manager and service manager lied and tried to intimidate me about (2) above, 4) Business owner unreachable and unresponsive by phone, in person and mail. Had good luck with the repair over here. Was fender bender damage. The repair was completed with no evidence of the damage now. They completely vacuumed and clean the interior, washed and maybe even polished the exterior. The car looks great. read more

Done work with winks before, the work was great. Called a couple weeks ago I contacted Winks for my 3rd gen Toyota 4Runner to have some underneath touch up done, along with installing an ARB after market bumper. They insisted on sending me a "link" to an estimate app.... It turned into me doing all kinds of hoops, and then finding it impossible to find a way to explain the work. Called back, talked to a young guy once more, just couldn't get to a simple email where pics can be downloaded, or make a simple appointment to come in without a huge dance. They continued directing me to the app...I believe it comes down to if they can't simply replace a late model fender, or replace parts they're all in (as long as you use the blessed "app")otherwise they don't want, or know how to communicate with you, nor are they interested in work that doesn't include an insurance company.This is common today in the automotive repair business. My 4runner has stayed in the condition it's in due to my continual efforts, but it's getting hard when shops won't let you past the initial phone call. I have never been afraid to spend money to maintain my vehicles, but money isn't good enough these days, it has to be in the realm of what is simplest for our employees to understand and work with (very young and delicate).....It's a shame. I was hoping I could continue to do work there. I've had the mechanics shop do a small amount of work that went well, but after writing this I'll continue at the dealer (Maguires)for mechanical, and continue searching for a full service body shop..... read more

A flower delivery truck sideswiped my car while it was parked on Main Street in Trumansburg, perfectly legally, scraping the entire driver's side and decapitating the side view mirror. I went straight to Winks because I have worked with them before. Their estimators are fast and efficient. When the driver's side was opened up for surgery, the damage turned out to be extensive.The insurance company honored all of the estimators' quotes, so there were no hassles there. I had to wait for the actual body work, but as I said I have worked with them before and was willing to wait because I trusted the outcome. Once the car is in the shop, they send you weekly texts, which I really like. You learn when a new part is needed or backordered etc. so you can follow the ongoing operation. The car emerged like new, healed in every way, detailed and washed. I was extremely happy! In my view, Winks is a very well run business, with excellent customer service and people in the body shop who are wonderfully skilled at what they do. Very Expensive Experience: Good Body Work and Dubious Integrity - 09.07.10 In late-April I ripped the front of my VW off on a curb (Pete's Grocery--beware!) and needed to make a decision about where to take it for repair. My instinct was to go with the big VW dealer, but the owner of the tow company convinced me to go with Wink's. I was serviced at their second location (above), their first being located in T-Burg. Having never had body work done, I don't have a reference point as to how long what I had done would take. Working together with Wink's with my insurance adjuster was easy. After about three weeks, and some extremely attentive communication as to how the process was going by the General Manager, Mike, the body work was done. Unfortunately, this was not the positive end result. However, after sending my car for its alignment, Mike at Wink's informed me they had discovered that the wheels were a little out of canver (sp) (as I understand, the cant of the wheels off the 90 degree axis), which would eventually negatively wear my tires. Mike gave me a quote of $40. With no expendable funds, I still decided it was worth getting done (with). Two more weeks go by, they adjust it once and then need to again add another shim. In total, I was without my car for about 5-6 weeks. Glad I didn't have to be renting, or the rental cost would have been half the ultimate high $1,000s fix. Here's where the deal gets very unsettling. When I inspected the car, the body work looked beautiful, however I notice that my leather stick shifter--which was worn slightly, but consistent with the other 8-year-old leather in the car--was what looked like heavily sanded off for half the top area. There was what looked like leather "dust" below it. When I inquired about this, figuring there was some mistake or mechanical rationale for this, AND that the shop would stand behind the fact the my car had been in their "safe" keeping for over a month, that they would make good on it. Mike was diplomatic at first, with, like me, seemingly no idea of how/why it might have happened. Then, when I pressed it--why should I eat damage to my car, a part that was fine when I choose to entrust their shop with my vehicle--he became defensive and even inferred that I might be trying "to get a new stick shifter for free." This sent me over the edge. I called my insurance adjuster, who couldn't do anything about the stick shift, aside from file another claim for me. I held out for about two hours in the shop before I decided that I needed my back, and that I was stuck with the damage. Then, when I went to pay my deductible and for the extra wheel work, the bill was $160. $160, instead of $40 quote! To their credit, after I protested, they held to their original estimate/quote of $40. However, he held this over me when not taking responsibility for the stick shift vandalization, saying something to the effect that aligning it a second time, for the second adjustment, meant they were eating over $200. Many people--tow guy, other mechanics, etc--joked to ask if any of the shop's body guys had an old GTI. Then, after I had paid--after he hinted that I was trying to con HIM--he asked me a loaded question as to where I was headed, "Back up to the hill?" insinuating what seemed to me that I was spoiled college student. Nope. Working professional here. Headed home to tell my girlfriend, and anyone else who will listen, how bad my experience with Wink's was. Since every time I touched the stick shift I grew angry, my next step was to call my normal, absolutely trustworthy mechanic to see how much a used, leather stick shift cost. Matters worse, my rear brakes were warped and needed replacement from sitting around on their lot, a month in 90 degree sun. +$200. D'ohh! BEWARE. read more

Winks Stinks! I brought my car to Winks to get an estimate for minor damage that i got while parked in NYC on the street. The Car had damage to the rear quarter and was scratched along the driver side rear door. First, the estimator could not find the "boilerplate" on the Car to indicate date of manufacture and VIN. (He failed to open the rear door where it is prominently displayed.) Second, He took almost 1 hour to do the estimate.(He told me twice that he was almost done) then needed the "Owner" to verify before sharing the estimate with me. Finally, the result was $1940!!!! Also, the Car would be there 7 days. I told him that it was way above what I was prepared to spend and would like to do part of the job only.(Possibly paint the scratch on the door and leave the small dent on the rear panel alone.(approx 3 inches ) At this point the "Owner" told me that he would not do part of the job and leave part of the job undone. I told him that is all that I would do and wanted an estimate and he refused. I asked why and he told me"That if someone asked where the work was done then his reputation would suffer" I asked, again, that is all that I could afford possibly and he SUGGESTED that I buy some paint and do it myself! I said that I should paint it and he said yes! So, If you desire a Face Lift then go to Winks. If, on the other hand , you want a Car Repaired at a reasonable price find someone else. Eric read more

3 days before my wedding, my lovely bride to be introduced her corolla to a moderately sized deer. This was an issue because my truck habitually overheats and we were expected to provide transportation for many arriving family and friends. It was also an issue because, well, she hit a deer. Not ever hitting a deer before, we were at a loss at what to do. She called her car insurance company and they forced us to use "their" people to get everything fixed. This worked fine for us because we didn't have any people of our own. The nice police lady told me that I could drive my newly mangled car (after I cut some plastic out from around the wheels) if I promised to go directly to a repair shop) so really my hands were tied as I didn't have the time or the contacts to determine what made a body shop good or bad. Off to Winks I went! The deer had been a little vindictive in busting up the front of the car, denting the roof, and ninja kicking the trunk before sauntering off as if it had meant to do that, so Winks had a pretty solid amount of work to do if they wanted to live up to their promise of having the car back in driving condition by the time we were saying our vows. But true to their word, we got a phone call the morning BEFORE the wedding letting us know that we could come pick it up. Every dent and scratch, including some that I can or cannot confirm were attributable to the deer, was fixed, the car looked better than pre-deer, ran great, and hasn't had a problem in the 6 months since this happened. Mike even waived the 50 dollar deductible that we owed as an "early wedding present". Overall, I cannot attest to how expensive Winks is because my wife's insurance company and Winks covered 100% of the cost. What I can attest to is the quality. And what quality it was! read more

I had a bumper and side panel replaced. The work done was good. On the other hand, I can not think of a time that I have had worse service and I am 62 years old. I think I have seen worse service in movies but that is about it. I was in the front office three times, so this wasn't an off-day. The guy at the front desk (same guy all three times), in all three visits did not offer me a seat. So I ended up standing, talking to him while he was at his desk (to make sure I couldn't sit, there was no chair next to his desk.) The last of my three visits, I waited for around half an hour. If the receptionist hadn't take pity on me, I don't know how long it would have been before I received my keys. I wrote to Winks a comment about their service. They never got back to me. Here is my guess, there are competent workers in back, but the guy in front has to be someone's son, son-in-law or nephew. read more

I ran over a bicycle that had been dropped on Route 90, causing pretty severe damage to my bumper, fender, headlight, and the undercarriage of my car. Wink's did an excellent job on the bodywork, despite the fact that the finish on my car requires three separate application steps. When the damage to the underside turned out to be more extensive than originally thought, they kept me in the loop, and worked with my insurance company to make the necessary adjustments. Pros: 1. They kept me updated on my car's status at all times. Cons: 1. I had the rear pannel and back door completely replaced. They aren't actually the same color as the rest of the car haha. 2. The rear pannel is poking out over the other pannel and it looks awful. In sum, the paint job was terribly done and is not the same color as my car AND the pannels aren't staying in place after only 5 months. read more

Worst customer service I have seen in a long time

Winks is the worst. I took my eclipse there to get a spoiler put on it. He said he physically couldn't do it because the metal is too think, and if he did it would fly off if I went over 30 MPH. He advised me to return it. I went to Scottie's out in Dryden, and he put it on for me without a problem. I went back there to give them a second chance, and got a small estimate on a dent on my car. He told me he couldn't pull the metal, and I would have to replace that whole piece, that would run me more than $600. Took it to Scottie's and he told me the metal can be pulled, and it would run me under $200. Any place is better than wink's if you are taking your car there you're wasting your time. read more

I was extremely impressed by the services I received from Winks. They got my car fixed within 10 days from the day I made the appointment.. It was ready before I expected it. They worked with the insurance company to have payment directly sent to them. Everyone I dealt with was professional, courteous and helpful. More places should function this well.
