First snow happened and my college kid got a nail in the all season tires. Grateful to the reddit community for suggesting Wilcox Tire. Good tires and brakes are everything for Ithaca's hills. AAA put the spare tire on. Wilcox patched the tire, put the spare back under the vehicle and put on the Bridgestone Blizzaks Snow tires. They were able to get the tires the next day and get them on the rims and balanced. Total cost was just under $1k, but these are the best tires on the market. Wilcox even gave a 1/2 off tire repair. They put the seasonal tires in the back of the car nicely wrapped in a plastic tire bag and said to come back in Spring to put them back on. Wish they had onsite tire storage, but found a small 5x5 storage locker at Bolt Storage for $20 a month in Newsfield, NY (20 minutes south of Ithaca and 1/2 the price). read more

I brought in a rim to WIlcox for their repair/straightening services. After a few days I was told that they couldn't straighten the dent. I received my wheel in the exact condition in which I left it--didn't even buff out the curb rash, nothing--and the bill was $545. They did mount a $200 tire as I told them too, because the wheel does hold air just fine. I paid it and left-- I wouldn't go back. They wouldn't even mount it for me because "the compressor was shut down." read more

This is the only car shop I have used since moving to Ithaca over 7 years ago and I will never take my car anywhere else. From getting me snow tires for winter, annual inspections or other maintenance, I am always pleased. We needed a new tire and they delivered. We had already checked with 4 other tire places that didn't have the tire, or couldn't fit us in.

We needed new tires and called around several places. Wilcox had the most reasonable prices and could accommodate us quickly. We dropped the car off the next morning and it was done by Noon. They also included future tire balancing with the purchase, which is a very helpful bonus. read more

Super positive experience. Consider them very trustworthy. Visiting from out of town and had some brake issues, pulsations when braking down hills are at high speeds. Brought it in, they took it for test drive, determined that the issues were not dangerous and that our drive home would not be at risk. Did not charge us! Super happy with them, and they came highly recommended from friends and family who live in Ithaca. I'd give more than five stars if I could. read more

Failed my cars inspection claiming that both rear spring coils were broken and needed replacing (a $400 job) . I jacked my car up and observed that both rear spring coils were in exellent condition and had no problem passing inspection elsewhere. They blatently lied to me about the condition of my car to make more work for themselves but still charged me for inspection and removed my sticker. More than just untrustworthy. Worked with them to order a specific size of winter tire for my car. They installed and charged me for a different size. When I brought it to their attention the next day and asked that they replace the tires with what we discussed and ordered, their tune changed - bald faced lied to me, said didn't say that and they couldn't get that specific model... so, all that work and I now have tires that screw-up my mileage and speedometer. Amazingly poor customer service on the phone. Stay away from these dishonest people. read more

Bad experience, below-par service. Took my 2013 WRX here after cracking the sidewall of my front left tire on a pothole (gotta love the roads in Ithaca). The good: Guy at the counter was straightforward, and after looking at my tires concluded that I could get away with only replacing the ruined tire. He found me one for a good price and it was ordered and installed within the week. The bad: Since my car is all-wheel-drive, replacing one tire was NOT okay. My car has since pulled to the right with this tire (it is slightly less worn than the rest and has a larger diameter). I had to go to three different dealerships for one of them to figure this out, and now have to order a full set anyways. They didn't fasten the spare down in the trunk with the nut for it, which would have taken them 20 seconds and screams laziness. They, being a TIRE place, failed to fill the tires to the factory pressure. My tire pressure monitoring light was on when I picked the car up, and the guy at the desk claimed it was recalibrating and would go off on its own soon. When I took my car in to the dealership to see why it was pulling to the right, I asked them to check the system to make sure it was working properly. When I picked the car up, they said it was because the tire pressure was too low, so Willcox sent me away with low tire pressure and told me I was fine! Overall, they do the bare minimum. If you have a simple swap, fine, but I wouldn't trust them to make any sort of judgment calls on my car after this experience. read more

I was in Ithaca for the weekend and got a flat tire. They fixed the flat and then charged me $35 for the patch and then balanced it without asking me. Hence the excessive charge - but this type of fix doesn't require balancing. You balance all 4 tires when they need it, not one with a rubber plug in it. I have had my tires rotated there for many years. No problems ever. Some of the other reviewers have reviewed negatively the service. It is on the plain side. But if by service you mean: people who know tires and who will work their best on your behalf - then, in my opinion, the service is fine. read more

They stole my parts! Brought in new spark plugs, wires, and cap for them to replace, gone. They didn't do anything and claimed they never received the parts. To top it off they replaced my fuel pump with a used one that broke 6 months later. Would not recommend them to anyone. read more

The negative reviews here are quite a surprise and in my view not a good description of this retail business. I've used Willcox/Ithaca for over 20 years, both personally and also for my business vehicle. In my experience, their service, charges and customer treatment have always been good to excellent. On the most recent visit last fall, I brought in the company vehicle with a serious puncture that I thought would require replacing the tire. The Willcox people could have easily sold me a new, fairly expensive one. Instead, they fixed the problem for $5.00 and actually talked me out of buying a replacement tire. read more

Some of the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. Personally stopped in to make an appointment for oill change, tire rotation, NYS inspection, and alignment. Assured that I could wait for the car. Arrived at the appointed day and time 15 minutes early. Person who checked me in was rude and could care less if I left my car. Told me it would be ready 2 1/2 hours later. Came back to a $150 bill and no alignment. $50 higher than I was quoted because the oil filter was more expensive than expected and they needed "hours" more to do the alignment. The owner actually chastised me for expecting to have this all completed in the time that was promised and tried to make me feel as though it was my fault. Left me standing at the counter for a good 15 minutes until I reached for my keys at which time I was told I needed to pay my bill as if I was going to run off. Unbelievable. The reviews that you see online about these people are absolutely true. Stay away from this business as they look for ways to cheat people and provide horrible customer service. read more
