I've only been here twice but I just love this place. I wish I could eat everything! Last time I was there my husband and I split a slice of the deep dish pecan pie. I don't usually like pecan pie but I really liked this one. The slice was so big we couldn't even finish it so I took the leftovers home. I also had the European hot chocolate. I swear it's like drinking melted chocolate. It's soooo... rich and thick. I would recommend drinking it all before it cools completely or you'll need a spoon to get it out. read more

Chocolate + Bar = Do I really have to say it????!! I love the Chocolate bar! Their ice cream is awesome. They have so many types of different chocolate mixes that I always have a hard time deciding what I want. Cakes are really good, and so are the gourmet chocolate bars. I love that they have dog treats, which Rajah just loves! Definitely recommend the Chocolate Bar, if you are a Candy (really anything sweet) aficionado like I am you will LOVE it! read more

Love this place for a quick fix for anything chocolate. Tonight, though, the Bar was a little off, the cake and chocolate covered strawberries were were slightly off, sort of like the appearance of the ripped seats and the missing artwork on the walls. Chocolate bar is the ultimate place for chocolate indulgence. Their chocolate cakes look straight out of Matilda, and the ice creams are packed with gooey, crunchy, yummy chocolate. If you can handle it, go for a cake a la mode to get the best of both, but I would only recommend it if you're sharing (say with a group of 10....). Everything also is great standing alone. As a warning, you should probably get a small ice cream your first time. It may look like it won't be satisfying, but the ice cream is so dense and full of nuts, fruits, marshmallows, etc that you may not even finish a small. I have yet to try their array of chocolate dipped cereals and fruits, but I know that I'll be back another time. read more

Since the last cold season, it's clear that the size of your hot chocolate (not the shot) has shrunk--but the price hasn't. It's a bit insulting to my intelligence and patronage for the size (ounce) to lessen while the price remains the same. I have regularly purchased the hot chocolate during the cold season, and this season I was presented with a considerably smaller cup of chocolate. Let's be honest: the hot chocolate consists of left over chocolate shaving and heavy whipping cream. While I'm well aware of inflation and a sometimes decreasing profit margin, I don't know that such is the case here. If it were the case, it seems like the size would have remained the same while the cost would have increased. I could appreciate that much more than what seems to be a sneaky and deceiving business practice. I say that because the clerks are still referring to it as the (8 or 12, I cannot recall) portion size. Please, get it together. Otherwise, I can stick to hot tea... I have a sweet tooth so I don't know why I haven't been to The Chocolate Bar! My friend was celebrating her birthday and decided to come here after dinner. There are so many options! It's kind of overwhelming. I knew for sure that I wanted to try the chocolate tres leches cake since tres leches is my absolute favorite. I also got a piece of the blondie brownie. The cake was good, but I didn't love the icing. I had whipped cream on top and that was yummy. I didn't try the brownie until the next day and it was really good. It would have been really good with ice cream but I didn't have any lol. Speaking of ice cream, I tried a bite of the snowberry ice cream and it was slap your momma good! It's chocolate covered strawberries mixed into vanilla ice cream. I think I may have to get it the next time I go. That or some affogato. My friend had affogato with a scoop of cookie dough and loved it. We pretty much all loved our desserts. I'm a fan! read more

Omg. Dear god. This place is so good and heaven for all chocolate lovers. The parking is limited - there's about 3 spots right in front of the store in the shopping center. Walking in you're greeted with an awesome sight of ice cream and different chocolate creations. I tried the mint chocolate ice cream which was absolutely delicious, and I bought the chocolate tres leches. Soooooo good. It's all very pricey but totally worth it! I'll have to try the cakes next time. read more

I like it. The Chocolate Bar is a fun little shop with all sort of interesting chocolate shapes. There are champagne bottles, horseshoes, cats, dogs, spoons, pizzas, hammers, other tools, cellphones, baby bottles, cigars, occupation gift boxes (like doctors, nurses etc..), and seasonal items. There's a counter with chocolate candies, fruits dipped in chocolate, ice cream, and cake. I had a huge peanut butter cup, and it was really yummy. The cake slices are expensive, but they are so big that one slice would be enough for two or three people. There is also a small hard candy section with taffy, m&ms, runts, candy sticks and more. This is a fun store, and I'll definitely be back. I really want those big candy numbers for my children's birthday party next year. Fun place! read more

Holy cow. This is THE place for people with a sweet tooth. As Melanie L. pointed out- this is Willy Wonka's Factory for grown-ups. As you walk in, you're greeted by a dazzling array of ice cream, any and every type of sweet concoction you can think of. There's chocolate covered fruits that are 50% off after 8 pm by the way! But anyways, I didn't really try anything except the ice cream. I sampled the Night and Day ice cream and oh-my-god, the BEST chocolate chip ice cream I've ever had. I'd gladly buy the quart.. except it's like 12 dollars. My dad got the double brownie ice cream I think, and it was just so texturized and flavorful. It was worth that 4 dollars for a medium ice cream cup. I'd gladly come back to The Chocolate Bar any day.. but the parking is atrocious (we had to park across the street!) and the prices are quite high. But other than that, it's a really nice place! You'd have so much fun just even LOOKING at what they have in the store! read more

Every time I go to Texas I find myself going to this joint. The chocolate here is awesome and I absolutely love chocolate (dark chocolate is my favorite tho...the darker the better!) Chocolate in so many forms...so many novelty items to choose from (you can check out their menu online)! Came here with a group of friends and shared a ginormous piece of Aunt Etta's chocolate cake...so rich...so dreamy...every bite tingled your taste buds. Seriously, you definitely need to wash that cake down with some milk or water...I think we finished most of it. LOL I did buy some chocolate dipped fortune cookies to take back to California with me. I shared them with a buddy of mine and we both agreed...they were off the hook. This place has to be one of the best chocolate joints I have ever been to and of course...next time I'm round Houston...I'll be gettin more chocolaty goodies to take back to Cali with me. read more

A chocoholics dream! They offer a wide array of desserts from behind a counter (giant cake slices, ice creams, candies) as well as pre-packaged shaped chocolate bars/desserts. Pizza shaped chocolate bars? Giant custom bars? If you have a sweet tooth and you actually want to decorate or customize your own chocolate then this is definitely the spot for you! I honestly didn't even know what this place was. I saw the word "bar" at rice village and figured I guess I'll have some chocolate alcohol. I went in and found myself in willy wonka's chocolate factory. It was a glorious feeling as I walked in to the scent of fresh chocolate. I was greeted with a big smile and offered assistance on what types of chocolate I wanted or if I wanted to make my own. This was a friendly atmosphere for certain. I ended up creating a chocolate pizza with various toppings. It came in a pizza box and people thought I was giving them pizza. Not bad chocolate bar. Not bad. read more

To die for desserts. I used to go to the other chocolate bar location when I was in high school. It was my go to place for decadent desserts. Now, even after college and moving twice, every time I return home I go to the chocolate bar. With its proximity to all the other fun places in Rice Village, this has become my new go-to chocolate bar. The parking is fantastic. Not paying for parking in Rice Village has always spoiled me. Even if you can't get a spot right in front of the chocolate bar, just find one in the lot across the street. I often forget that the chocolate bar closes on the weekdays at 10 p.m. It is always has such a great crowd even at 10! They are always having to tell people to leave. You really can't go wrong with anything here. My favorite is the chocolate truffle cake. It is so decadent. I can eat a quarter and feel like I'm high on chocolate. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. This is also a great place to get gifts for friends, since there is a whole chocolate shop connected. Since everything is so rich, be prepared to share. Or you can always be like me and take some home and hide it from everyone else. read more

Experience was mediocre on top of the exorbitant prices for sub-par chocolate. Service seems to be hit or miss, and in our case proved to be the latter. We paid almost $17 for four truffles and a large chocolate strawberry (which turned out to be as "large" as the regular strawberries) and much to our surprise found our assortment just thrown carelessly into the bag with no buffers between them. Strawberry was soggy and wet and soaked the truffles due to the negligence. Won't be coming back. read more

This place has so many options and very nice staff. I recommend a slice of Uncle Darryl's cake. The toffee makes it a dreamworthy cake. Truly fantastic. As a self-proclaimed dessert expert and connoisseur of cake, I declare this dessert spot the best in Houston. My room mate and I got a slice of cake and two scoops of ice cream each (I do not recommend this). The portions are ridiculously large, even for the brave souls that can normally finish a pint of ice cream on their own. We had no idea what we were in for. Every ice cream is the best. But we had candylicious junkyard and the Oreo one. Paired with "any day's a holiday" and "uncle Darryl" flavors. We could not finish, and we ALWAYS eat our cake. There are gifts here too, including all types of candies and specialty snacks. They even had cards! Fantastic customer service. They let us taste the ice cream and gave great recommendations. My recommendation: go here very hungry. read more

What is there not to like about chocolate? This place is amazing. .. so many options to choose from. My favorite are the delish chocolate covered strawberries, blueberries and banana. It even gets better than that. .. after 8 all of the chocolate covered fruit selections are 50% off!! This is when you indulge and feel no remorse.... (sigh) Cute spot to go on a date, have a birthday, meet with friends or just to get a late snack. This location has great shopping too. Not to mention they also have cake...I can keep going on and on.. lol Visit for yourself you'll be like a kid at the candy store. read more

This place is heaven for any chocolate lover. They have SO many options to choose from, all featuring their marvelous ingredient=chocolate! From chocolate-covered fruit (which I prefer to not buy and instead make myself-way cheaper!) to yummy ice cream and even hot chocolate for those cold days. Their German Chocolate Ice Cream is the best! It has pecans in it! The staff is always friendly and they know how to handle big crowds. read more

I have been to this location a few times with my father. They have nostalgic candy, insane pieces of cake, ice cream and various chocolates. I have tried a few ice creams and didn't care for them. I tried the Girl scout and it fell apart in my mouth. It was "missing something" with texture. I also tried the Lemon zest and it was disgusting in my opinion. I could not get the taste out of my mouth fast enough. My father has two scoops of chocolate ice cream and he enjoys this flavor. I had a massive slice of chocolate cake which I took to go and it was desert for two nights it was so large. I asked for the "chocolate sauce" on the side and it was on the "side" of the cake but not in a separate cup. This was strange to me as it made one side of the cake soggy. The nostalgic candy was a great sight but it is not cheep! This place is decent but having been to many desert places in my life this was not a very memorable place in my opinion. I would rather go around the corner and get a Frappuccino from Starbucks for desert before getting their chocolate or ice cream. Just one person's opinion. read more

Oh my! What a treat! I visited the Chocolate Bar a few days ago and did not expect all that I encountered. They had ice cream, cake, chocolate covered fruit, different types of chocolate AND sugar free chocolates, which I opted for because I was doing a no-sugar cleanse. I have been telling everyone about these sugar free chocolates, and in fact I took my brother there, before we headed up to Dallas for Wrestlemania to get some goodies (sugar free for me) for the road. I also very much enjoy their dark chocolate covered strawberries. After writing this review, I think I am going to head there again this weekend. The only issue I have with The Chocolate Bar (which is not so much their issue) is that parking can be very tricky. I went to both locations and was able to fine parking, one right in front of the store, and the other in a nearby plaza. All in all, I am a fan and intend to become a regular customer there. read more

It's a slice of vanilla cake. It's a BIG AF slice of vanilla cake, but it's a slice of vanilla cake. And it was $10.00. I could probably go to the supermarket, buy two round vanilla cakes, let the cakes sit for a couple days to ensure that they lose quite a bit of moistness, stack them on top of each other, and I'd have the -TADA!- wedding cake for a much cheaper price. Cake was dryer than expected, icing was hard and thick, and the ice cream was average ice cream. Giving this place three stars because how bad can a vanilla cake with chocolate ice cream possibly taste, but definitely not impressed. read more

I start salivating every time I just start walking towards The Chocolate Bar. I don't even have to be inside, let alone tasting the chocolate, for this to happen. I know I have a problem, but you can thank my problem because now I can share with you what the best treats to try here are! My favorites have been the Uncle Darryl's and Aunt Etta's chocolate cakes. If you're anything like me, your eyes are bigger than your stomach and you're convinced that these giant slices of cake are normal single servings. I know it's hard to believe, but it does get to be too much chocolate after awhile. If I'm feelin' for something lighter, I'll go for the ice cream which is surprisingly not as sweet as they sound. Top picks for that are Teddy Camp Smores and the Chocolate Cherry. Chocolate covered pineapples and pretzels have also always been winners. You just can't go wrong here! read more

Cake, cake, cake oh my!! These cakes are ginormous and even a single slice is too much for one sitting. I got a slice of the double chocolate and they added toffee pieces on the side. A good touch I might add. I also got an iced americano which was fantastic. I wasn't expecting much in terms of espresso flavor but boy was I wrong. It had the perfect flavor and didn't need anything added. Now the ice cream. My boyfriend literally tried 15 of them and said every last one of them were the best ice cream he has ever had. He even pledged that they were better than Amy's. If that doesn't lure you in, I don't know what will. read more

My daughter and I used to visit this place all the time. It's changed throughout the years. They used to have a candy area that she absolutely loved. It was disappointing to her when they took that away. Cakes are good, but the reason why I gave Chocolate Bar 3 stars is because when you walk in to a place with the name "Chocolate Bar" you would kind of expect for it to smell like a freshly baked batch of cookies or something. And not at all like an old wet mop. Actually I can give them a little cred because the last time I went there a couple of months ago it smelled like heavily used "fabuloso" floor cleaner. Still not enticing to say the least. Nonetheless cakes are decent! read more

I've been a long time supporter/fan of the chocolate bar, until tonight. After absolutely no one asking for our order at the counter with the cakes, we walked up to the register. The young woman was incredibly frustrating because she not only interrupted us as we were ordering to start talking to other customers/employees, she didn't even apologize for interrupting. We also had to repeat the order 3 times. She then proceeds to alarmingly yell "Ma'am your card declined" Having worked in customer service/food service, you are taught to approach those situations in a more respectful manner, not embarrass a customer. I then explained that the magnetic strip can be finicky but if the number is manually entered then it runs through. When it did get approved, she seemed shocked. AND ON TOP OF IT ALL... the $7 slice of cake we bought was so skimpy (see photo) Really disappointed with my experience tonight after years of coming here. read more

Aunt Etta had always been a family favorite of ours but we got some recently and recipe is definitely different and sadly, no longer as good as it used be. This place is like the adult's Willy Wonka factory. Diabetics beware. As soon as you walk in, you'll see just about every sort of sweets you can think of: cakes, cookies, mini cupcakes, chocolate covered fruits, candies, ice cream, the list goes on. I came in with a huge group of friends last night and we all scanned the whole store to see what's in store for us. There's so many choices! But everything's so expensive! Like $8-$10 for a slice of cake. Oh my.. But I do appreciate how they have a couple of deals though. Like how after 8pm, their chocolate covered fruits are half off, which mostly consists of chocolate covered strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc. And they occasionally have slices of cake that were cut too small or aren't presentable enough and they sell them for like a dollar less. Better than nothing, I suppose. Last night was my second time to this place and I found myself coming back for their red velvet cake. I've come to realize that the chocolate frosting reeeeaaalllly makes the red velvet cake taste much better than the traditional cream cheese icing. Mmm! The only complaint I have to make though, is their parking. I wish they had certain spots reserved just for Chocolate Bar, just like how they have for other stores next door to them. read more
