Posted on 08/05/2019, The Windward Tavern, where do I start, the both female bartenders were substandard at best both having no social skills and no bartending skills made excuses for their incompetence. At best they should be working at a beer and shot joint. The so called Manager, who exhibited zero management skills, what a poor excuse, he may have the title of manager, but he certainly is not a manager, at best, he should be valet parking cars, fire them they are ruining your business, I'm a local and will never set foot in your establishment eveagain, I will spread the word throughout the community, good luck with that crew read more

Great food and friendly service. Enjoyed our experience. The best burger in the area and blackened shrimp appetizer was delicious.

Arrived with a group of 6 and were greeted nicely and seated at a round table inside. We each had drinks, shared appetizers (mussels were tasty) and our waitress was attentive. Our entrees were generous in portion we each had something different from pastas, to burgers, to the special of the day, to the Sheppard Pie. All was delicious. Service was great. First off when we were seated at our table the hostess gave us the drink, specials and main menu like she was dealing a deck of cards. It was like she would rather be somewhere else. I ordered the chicken pot pie. Came out hot enough. But as I started eating it the crust was to thick and the dough wasn't even done all the way through. It was mush. And the filling was mostly gravy. Really no chicken or vegetables. And flavorless. We had the manager come to our table too tell him and he was annoyed that we had a complaint about it. He insisted it was because the juices made the crust mushy. Really? He was short and annoyed with at me about my dissatisfaction. Not with whoever made it in the kitchen. The Big Mac I had at a McDonald's a couple of nights before was gourmet compared to the pot pie. I don't be back. read more

We really are big fans of Windward Tavern - for lunch, dinner and for Sunday brunch/breakfast (@$12 for all you can eat; you cannot go wrong!) Their food is very good, very tasty and we've never encountered any kind of problem with our meals. Service is always very attentive and very friendly; Adam is our favorite server. Some of our favorite menu items: blue cheese & bacon burger (WISH fries came with it instead of chips, but I suffer and pay the upcharge), french onion soup, seafood pasta, chicken parm, shrimp parm and their Sunday brunch/breakfast is fabulous and great to come with the kids or a large group. We come to Windward with our family and our kids a few times throughout the year and always have a great time. read more

Met with customers this afternoon for lunch and it's always great when a customer picks a wonderful spot. This was my first time at Windward Tavern and the food was outstanding. I ordered broil salmon, I'm sure everyone worries "I hope it's fresh" ...it was super fresh, so delicious perfectly seasoned I ate this with gusto. My customer ordered a California BLT and that was made with crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado. It was served with fries, Everything looked delicious on his plate. My other customer had sirloin steak with fries and he loved it too! I thought the steak was cooked perfectly ....Medium rare and those fries looked so tempting!! The wait staff was very attentive and very kind. Here was a bonus ... They have espresso!!! The inside of the restaurant is very pleasant, very cozy with a stone fireplace and beautiful, wide plank hard wood floors!Outdoor dining in tents available and there is plenty of parking! Probably the best part of the meal was the price, I thought it was super reasonable compared to the prices I've been paying further down the Garden State Parkway! No good just my opinion food wasn't fresh and cup of soup didn't have any meat inside just broth

Don't waste your time...food is 'eh and management only cares for your cash. It says it all above, "Bar", first and foremost. I'm only a few miles from Windward, but I will never return. I pass it on my way to the beach. During COVID-19, Windward was a regular take out joint for me, I didn't want them to close, but the tide is going out there now...the food effort has dwindled and management has lost respect for anyone who isn't over-consuming. Specifics, you ask? One night in August, we witnessed two middle aged women have a fist fight in the parking lot. Not kidding, probably mid-50s women duking it out. It was like watching a car accident...it was in front of kids and packed tent, the whole place witnessed these pathetic women...a closed fist to the face and one good hair pull and the women were separated. What's next? Management did not even request that they leave. Each was sent to neutral corners. I was surprised, but, judging from the size of the group, the bar tab must have outweighed good judgement. Either that or personal loyalties...either way, not a good scene to the rest of us. My memory of that incident faded and we returned in September, We ordered a drink, waited in their parking lot the quoted 45 minutes and when we inquired about a table after close to an hour, we were told four groups were ahead of us and sit...so we did. After another 30 minutes, we departed...we never even received a text that a table was ready, even by the next morning. I'll drive-by slowly when i pass the joint, but only to look for a brawl or "Under New Management" signs, but I will NEVER return. If you want to know though, I doubt they care. I can read your future if you stop a Windward: weak effort for food, poor management skills and an endless wait so you drink until you can't taste their offerings. My crystal ball also predicts this place is a permanent pass for me. read more

Living in the area, I've been here several times over the past year or two. Honestly, it's taken me this long to write a review because my experiences here just have not been memorable. On my most recent dining experience, my mom and I ordered two specials. She got the eggplant parm and Manhattan clam chowder soup, and I got the apple glazed pork chop with walnut sweet potato mash and a side salad. The portion of the eggplant was large, and mom said it was pretty good. Nothing special, but not bad. My pork chop was average. It was a bit dry, but it is a pork chop. I eat a mostly paleo based diet so I eat a lot of meat, so perhaps I'm just particular now about my pork chops. The house salad I have to say was terrible. They serve you iceberg lettuce, two tomatoes, two cucumbers, and some croutons. The lettuce had some brown shades on it. I dined here with my mom a few months ago and I recall us both asking the waitress why they didn't add some carrots and onions at least, but of course that was out of her control. I understand if the salads are on a tight budget, so to speak as to what ingredients are in it, but at least serve it fresh. I don't think I've ever had a fresh salad here. My mom got smart this time around and opted for the soup. I thought the portion was rather small, but I tasted the soup and it was pretty good. This place does have pretty good seafood. They had a seafood platter on special a few months ago, with scallops, shrimp, fried flounder, etc., with fries and a side of coleslaw. I think they should have that special on the menu permanently. They do have a fried flounder sandwich that is a standard on the menu, which is pretty good. The prices here are a bit high in my opinion. My pork chop special was $25.00. I could see maybe 20.00, since it's on special, even 15.00. But 25.00? That really isn't a special. Maybe if I got two pork chops instead of one!? Plus dessert? :) Also, the bar area. You can only get the bar specials if you sit AT the bar, and it's tiny. My mom likes to sit in the bar area, for many restaurants allow you to to partake in the specials as long as you are in the bar area. Not at Windward Tavern. Given the size of the place, I think that is a bit unfair. The bar itself is tiny. To give a better perspective, Windward Tavern has a huge dining room completely separate from the bar and bar area. It's much quitter and more of a place you would dine with your family, etc. Service is always pretty good here. Nothing memorable, but not bad. I think the owner is on the premises, although I've never seen him or her. It would be nice to know who they were. Then again, it's a busy place. I think if you are in the mood for a drink and can grab a seat at the bar, this isn't a bad place. Crowd is pleasant. Drinks are good. Food is decent. They do play pretty good 60s and 70s music which I like. Will I be back? I'm not sure. read more

Calamari was tasteless an the marinara dip was too. I had a turkey burger and it was over cooked. I ordered Avocado on the burger and they gave me a piece sliced up on the side of the plate and it was hard not ripe. I want to go to the local place s as opposed to a chain restaurant but not impressed with this place. Ate at the bar. Waitress paid too much attention to my husband, it was awkward. I gave it a second chance mid july 2019 I ordered fish sandwich, they were out of whitefish so instead of asking me they substituted it with raw tuna.... changed to one star. Had lunch here today. Food and ambiance were very good. Service on the other hand was not friendly or timely. We were assigned to a table which was in a very high traffic area. When we asked for another table(3 others were available) the waitress said NO it's not setup yet!! After waiting several minutes to order, the meal seemed to take forever. Windward tavern. I rolled in expecting crap. I rolled out full and satisfied. My entire party ordered burgers and my entire party was impressed. Thick and juicy were more than just words, they had become emotions. Flowing freely from us, the joy of perfectly seasoned moist beef was beyond the rapture which the Catholic Church had promised us as salvation. Crispy, yet yielding, the bacon played second flute to the melted cheeses dominating crescendo of violin like evocations of cheesy rapture. The bun, lightly kissed by the flames of the devil, was perfectly toasted. Most places that boast of a great burger are flagrant frauds. But not here my friends. This is a safe haven for true, honest, lovers of the pure beef patty. Rejoice! For hamburger is his name! Rejoice! Thickness is his bounty! read more

Prices are very steep on the dinner menu. Lunch prices not bad. Table got fried calamari, nacho platter, grilled clams for appetizers. Nachos were mediocre. Clams tasted like they were still drowning in ocean water, not a clean taste. Calamari was good. For entrees: metedeconk melt - bread to burnt to cut into, roast beef over cooked and no seasoning, overall a difficult to eat sandwich, would not recommend. Barely finished a quarter of it before giving up. Arizona chicken sandwich - chicken was dry, over cooked and thick. Top notch. I have eaten here 20 plus times. I have yet to have anything bad. Bright and airy in the dinning room and the bar area has plenty of tables and TVs. Daily specials here are great too. Solid food and price. Bonus- package goods available. Double bonus- during super storm sandy they were open. They are the only restaurant around with a standby generator. In a world of doom and gloom after the storm it became a welcome home base for food, drink and a bit of the news. read more

We've been going to this restaurant for many years and have always liked it! Tonight we went to try their Jersey Shore Restaurant Week menu. OMG! The food was amazing! The hubs and I came here one night for dinner because we had a gift card. We were seated fairly quickly, and the service was pretty fast. The chicken pot pie was amazing, and a huge portion. Where do I start? I have been coming to the location since the '90s. The restaurant changed ownership hands, and I stopped going for a long time. The only reason being I am not a huge fan of change. Starting in 2020, I started coming back and regular, and it made me realize what a mistake I made by not coming here more often over the years. The food is just awesome. I have had most of the appetizers, and I have not been disappointed by a single one. The blackened filet and tuna bites are just amazing. The Buffalo Tenders are the best I have ever had even the grilled tenders are amazing, especially if you blacken them. They have also had some great specials for appetizers that I have tried. As far as meals, I have had some great steaks, world-class penne vodka, and great chicken parm and chicken franchaise. The staff is just amazing and treat my friends and me great and are so friendly to us. As with any good business, the owner is vital, and Mort does a great job running a top-notch business. He is always around helping out his staff and concerned about customer satisfaction. During the Covid situation, they have created a nice atmosphere for customers. Having not.visited this place in a while we were pleasantly surprised by the improvements since they opened. We had a pizza app that was excellent, then the fillet mignon on English muffins. Everything was excellent. Owner came over to ask how everything was and we were happy to tell him "perfection".We also waited for the " Mangos" to came on and even though they were right in front of us it wasn't overpowering!
