Every year my family and I about 17 of us find a place to go to celebrate the new year. I was at Windward Beach Tavern a few months ago and decided that that would be a perfect place to go for brunch. I called and made reservations and I was told that they do not do reservations however if I wanted to give them a heads up it would be great so I did. We arrived on Sunday and to my surprise there was a table set up for 17 of us there was no line no waiting no fuss no hassle. Great family atmosphere, food was very good. The staff kind and attentive. We stumbled upon this place and we will be back. They have a decent brunch on Sundays with the typical brunch fair. I had a Ruben which was good and big enough where I took half home. The soup of the day was Creamy Sweet Potato and was OUTSTANDING. Give the place a try you will not regret it. read more

The food the service were very good! However my husband always orders A Jack Daniels on the rocks, when the drink came we told them this was not Jack Daniels, it was much lighter than what we are used to. They insisted that it was Jack Daniels, we think it was a cheap substitute! read more

My wife and I visited about a month ago. I ordered fish and my wife ordered a cheeseburger. My piece of fish was on the small side and the mango salsa was pretty nondescript. My wife's burger was over cooked and tasted like the gas from broiler. We would not come back, which is a shame because we live around the corner. read more

My family and I love Windward Tavern! Been going here for the past five years or so, we usually go for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner with the beautiful fireplace and homey atmosphere. Anyways, I highly recommend this restaurant for dinner, very cozy and welcoming ambiance. The salads are great and the French onion soup are fav appetizers. My favorite entrees include: the fish & chips (which my 90 yr old grandpa loves) the turkey burger is huge, and the pasta is very good. Finally!!! I am so happy to have a place that knows how to cook a burger. Extremely happy with everything here. We sat in the bar area and were waited on by Tara, she was very nice and helped me choose the perfect drink for me which was the Spa Day minus the mint. The atmosphere here is very cozy and comfortable. This will definitely be our new date night spot, for once in a long time I didn't have to send back my food for being over cooked. First of all - this place uses a lot of paper. Every drink seems to require another printout of a receipt that needs to be stapled to the last one that's stapled to an actual check. Whoever their Paper, Staple and Ink supplier is, well his/her kids will never have to worry about a college fund. But in all seriousness, this is very bad for the environment in general - it's 2019, there has to be a better way. As for the place itself, I used to be a regular when it was Craig's. Craig himself wasn't much of a nice guy but the entire staff was - which is why myself and others followed them to other places like Rella's (which we also miss). We've been to Windward a handful of times since it opened up under the ownership of the former Frankie's manager. This place is right down the street from my house so one would think we'd go more often. But, no. There's no real reason to actually go to Windward. Sure, it has beer, booze and food - which are all okay. Well, you can't really screw up beer and booze but the food is edible. It's the people that work there. They're just not very nice at all. Every experience here has never really been positive but our last experience was brutal. The three bartenders seemed aggravated that they had to serve us - for the entire 5 hours we were there. Drink on me? Heck no, why would they do that after 10 drinks? Wouldn't someone working a bar want to entice a group of 7 or 8 people to want to come back? Nope. Are you okay to drive after 10 vodka drinks? Sadly nobody asked us that either even though most of us took Ubers there. We really want this place to be good, at least as inviting as Craig's was but it's just not. I'm a huge supporter of buy local and supporting small business and staying away from chains whenever possible but in this case it's almost impossible. It's just hard to feel welcome at Windward and hopefully that changes with time. Maybe this review will help. read more

Well we gave it another chance after a bad experience about a year ago... Unfortunately although the food is very good the service is lacking..front of the house is terrible, very unattentive.. 2 broken steak knives A1 sauce bottle empty..I had to go to the bar to get another A1 AND a glass of water..because our waitress never came back to ask us if we wanted another wine, as I enjoy drinking AS I'm eating.. what a shame... always liked this place the atmosphere is great.. Unfortunately The so called manager is too busy BSing to notice.. POOR SERVICE! read more

Haven't been here since it became the Windward. Had a wonderful experience last night. Chilly night, enjoyed the cozy bar. Friendly attentive bartender added to our enjoyment. DELICIOUS crab cakes and pot roast sliders. Sadly, the sliders were a special, but hopefully, they offer them as a special regularly! And the crab cakes, wow! My mother and seven of her friends went to Windward Tavern on July 9, in the latter part of the afternoon. It was during happy hour, and when they walked in the dining room was completely empty. There were people sitting around the bar, and they decided to go sit in the empty dining room where it was quieter. After a while, the waitress finally came out to greet them. Since it was happy hour,they decided to order a few drinks. But they were told that they couldn't get the happy hour discount because they were sitting outside the bar area. One of the ladies requested the manager to come over and speak to them, which to his credit, he did. And that's where any credit he earned as a manager ends. My mother is a senior, as are her seven friends, the oldest of which is in her mid eighties. The dipshit manager tells them if they want happy hour pricing, they need to pony up at the bar. On barstools. Tall barstools! So he expects eight senior citizens to leave their table and trudge into a noisy bar, leaving any chance of a relaxing conversation behind, and climb up on barstools to save a buck on a drink. Nevermind the shock to the poor patrons across the bar who had a few, only to look up and see the cute thirty-something's vacated their spots which were filled with my mother and her roving band of Happy Hour lushes. Long story short, no one got their drink, they ordered their food, ate and left. I'm told it was a religious experience, because it's the Last Supper any of them will ever have there. You know what senior ladies like to do when the card games are over, the dominoes have been put away, and all that's left is to go home, for many of them to an empty house? They like to find places to go eat, have a drink with friends and have some laughs over conversation and otherwise spend their children's inheritance. You know what else they like to do? They like to tell everybody they know about the good, the bad, and the ugly things in their lives. Bad move WindWard Tavern. You may have saved a total of eight dollars on your happy hour drinks, but you have lost so much more. read more

I've been wanting to try the Windward Tavern for months. Quick back story, my wife, friends, and I spend lots of our weekends in pubs and taverns. We travel and do the same, so our experiences are ample. Anyways back to the Windward. The wife and I were in the mood for something new so at 830 on a Friday evening we venture to the place of reference. On arrival, my wife immediately knows other patrons of the pub, who assure us we've made a good choice. We grab our seats at the bar and our some apps; muscles marinara and fried raviolis. The food was actually quite good. After a couple of pints for me and one drink for the wife, the band (Easily Distracted) starts. Perfect sound level, good acoustics, and we were still able to have a conversation. Then .... the wife who is notorious for asking for more soda in her rum and Coke asks the bartender to add a little more booze to an obviously light drink. The bartender obliges and brings back a similar mixed soda beverage. After a taste of what was mostly CocaCola, a second bartender was asked for a new drink. This is where the two star rating comes into play. The first bartender says they can't make another drink (a call I understand) without management approval. The manager (who never bothered to introduce himself) told the bartender not to make another. He came to us and explained that all their drinks were 3 second pours and thats what we got. To which I began to try and start a dialog and was interrupted by the manger and was told were not paying for the drink as he walked away. Walked away. And thats the moral of the story. Bars and restaurants are in the customer service business and while the customer is not always right, management has a duty to hear a complaint out try o make things right. And in any business, making things right does not include walking away from your customer. All that said, the bartender was sweet and tried to deescalate a situation that her boss created and the food and atmosphere was quite good. Go and enjoy just don't expect management to rectify any problems you may have. read more

The food here is strictly for old people who don't know better! The food is below average! You know the place is bad when they can't make a burger or chicken tenders right! The only reason I give it two stars is because it wasn't crowded and that may have something to do with the food and the service was not bad! I really can't see why you would go here unless you were trying to appease two old people that don't know any better which I was! read more

The Windward Tavern looks very pubby but it really isn't . Regular menu items are ho hum nothing special. I have never had a bad meal just averge. the real star is the Sunday brunch buffet, while not huge it's always fresh predictable and a good value. If they did a menu revamp including some more classic pub fare they will get 5 stars for sure...Cheers!!! read more

When was the last time you tried this place? Maybe there were some issues when he first opened but he has ironed them all out! The Salisbury Steak, the burgers, the nachos are all home style comfort food and delicious. He has daily specials and has really become a very pleasant and delicious neighborhood go-to that we choose time and again. Went there one night on a whim...by the name of it my friend and I thought it was going to be a dive bar. When we drove up, the outside confirmed our suspicions (or so we thought)! Upon entering, this place was so cute and charming! Low lighting, lots of mahogany wood, bar area with uniformed bar staff who were so nice and professional. Music not so loud that you couldn't have a conversation. I will say that this is a date place. Definitely all couples in the bar and restaurant and if you went there you would see why. It is romantic and cozy. I will definitely suggest this place to a man who wants to cozy up to his date without having to scream in her ear to have a conversation. read more

I go to Winward tavern very often, but unfortunately just had an experience that will make me never want to go back. Due to Covid, customers are supposed to wait in their car and then they bring out your order, even though outdoor dining is open. On this particular day, I waited in my car for about 15 minutes watching people going in and out of the restaurant. I figured maybe I should go in and pick it up after waiting, as their "wait in your car" sign was not there as it usually is, so I went inside to ask. The hostess/waitress who greeted me was incredibly rude, told me I should've waited in my car (which I was, but it was taking quite some time), and gave me a ton of attitude. Even when I got my order, it was made totally wrong and missing a few things that I had asked for. This is not the way to treat customers - if you want pleasant friendly service, and kind answers to your questions, go elsewhere. read more

I'm a hairdresser at Spa Bella in point pleasant, many of my clients were talking about the new place that opened on Princeton Dr. The place really changed a lot since the previous restaurant "Craig's ". Windward Tavern is much brighter inside and the the bartenders and servers were so personable. The menu caters to both the lunch and dinner crowd, I chose dinner and went with the Scallop dish my husband the filet mignon... Are appetizers were calamari and buffalo chicken tenders.... Wow were we impressed... Everything was cooked beyond perfect the scallops were so awesome and the steak OMG delicious... Thanks for a great meal and we will be back to try lunch next time.. Have only been there for lunch and all our food choices were well prepared and flavorful. My friends and I always eat at the bar. getting a drink or a menu when the bartender who seems more inclined to ignore all patrons other than his tattooed gym buddies was quite a put off. He was not happy that after waiting 10 minutes he had to come over and get us a beer, he was even more upset when we asked for menu's and said "wait a minute" (The bar was not crowded but he and his buddies were visibly annoyed that we would interrupt their BS session. He made it a point to tell us he was not the owner. We made all of our friends at the marina in Point Pleasant know how were treated. My review is going to read like a commercial for Windward Tavern, but my family and I enjoy this place :). not only is the food tasty, but the prices are right also. Windward Tavern has lots of deals , specials, prefixed menu prices, happy hour specials(when I don't have the kids), early bird specials and an all you can eat Sunday brunch/buffet. If you are watching your expenses, but still want to enjoy a night out with dinner and drinks, I believe that this local tavern can fulfill that need. Windward Tavern also has a full take out menu. The bar is clean and the wait staff is friendly. I cant wait to visit this place again and have some delicious food. I will check in soon :) read more

Great burgers, nice decor, attentive bartenders. Brunch is awesome on Sundays. Parking is on gravel. Lots of TVs in bar area. Nice and quiet but not for those who like solitude. My wife and I went here 2 weeks ago and were looking forward to enjoying another delicious dinner. However, when we were walking into the dining area a small child was screeming so loud that we had to hold our ears. The waitress told us it was going on for about an hour. The manager did speak with the couple but the child continued screeming. We had not ordered our food yet and had to leave. Unfortunatly if the management can't control unruly patrons that are disturbing the entire resturant we will not be going back again. read more
