Review: 09/13/25…read more Parked in JC Penny's parking lot at Baychester Mall, thought it was the polite thing to do was to make a purchase being that parking was free. A great sale was going on, and I needed to get new bed pillows. The sale was too good of a deal to pass up. Just as i thought i had made the ultimate score. Realized the check out lines were a mile long. The houseware section is on the third floor. The extra, mile long check out line, turned out to be returns. No check outs on the entire third floor. Took the escalator done to the second floor, walked around, no check out lines on the second floor. Getting a bit frustrated, I just want to pay and leave. First floor has to be a charm. As we got off the escalator, there is one check out line, which was long. However they had three cashiers. Met a nice lady, had a cool chat about why we no longer like shopping in stores, and prefer online. This ordeal of having to hunt for a cashier was enough JC Penny to last me a lifetime. This store can't close, there's lots of "Plus Size" stores out there but this sell plus size clothing that is fun for young plus size women, I might not be "young" in years but in my heart I am and I love their style as long I know what I can pull off at my age. I just learn that shopping at Torrid online and sending the package to be picked up at the store is more economical than having it delivered at home, Torrid don't have a set shipping rate and I saved $32 in shipping which I spend in 2 items in the store that wasn't available online. I have always loved shopping at Torrid and I am excited they have a store in the Bronx, it would have been preferable if it would have been in the city but traveling all the way to Bay Plaza wasn't so bad.

This location leaves much to be desired. The staff on the floor and in the fitting rooms are less then helpful. The lines are always wrapped around the store. Disregarding the increasing length they only seem to open at maximum, two registers. If you have 1 item, 30 items, or just a simple return you must be prepared to wait on line @ minimum 20 minutes or more. This has been my experience both on different days and at various times of day, no since of urgency to be had in this store. I will say once you have arrived at checkout, this is the one area where I have never come across an indifferent employee. The staff @ the registers, manager to be as pleasant as possible even while dealing with the never ending lines. My most recent visits to the location have been to return only do to the convenience of the location and no real appeal to shop for an exchange. Just A Note: The brand lost its appeal to me, after the inappropriate monkey green sweatshirt photo shoot. I had some old gift cards to get rid of and after the last visit, the appeal was further soured for me.
