She gets annoyed if you have a problem with something. She doesn't make you feel comfortable at all. She is very short and nasty and it was very pricey. I can go anywhere abs give my money to someone that does good work and knows how to be polite abs appreciate that you are giving them your business. We have had many dresses and pants hemmed, even dresses altered to be bigger so that she can continue to wear her favorite dresses after gaining some weight. I had my dress hemmed and altered by Leah. My sisters wedding was the day after Thanksgiving this year. The dress i bought had a faulty zipper as they usually are with a sequence gown. The day of the wedding it would not budge. Knowing that she was open on Friday, I called her up while I was getting ready. I asked her if i can come in so she can fix it. Came here to get a quote for minor alterations to my moms dress for my daughters wedding and was completely shocked by the outrageous price of $145.00 she quoted me for a hem and to take dress in by 1/2 inch on bodice only. 4 inches in length on each side of bodice.... it would have been a simple taking in that finishes in nothing... nothing complicated or intricate. The local Cleaners quoted me $50 for the hem and taking in on sides, but I just ended up doing myself.... always get two prices before shopping around for alterations... you can find going rates online for simple alterations. Don't allow establishments like this one to overcharge.... Was also very rude to me when I told her I did not want my moms shoes to show. She literally had the nerve to tell me that I was putting my mom in danger... she said that older people need their shoes to show . If I'm going somewhere and paying for a service like alterations... it gets done to my preference NOT THE PREFERENCE OF THE SEAMSTRESS. MY experience at this establishment was horrible. read more

My grandma was a quality assurance supervisor at David's Bridal for years. There wasn't a dress I wore that she couldn't take in/alter for me. Unfortunately, she broke her wrist in May and I had a bridesmaid dress for a wedding (yesterday)that was about 2-3 sizes too big on me. I came on Yelp to try and find a well reviewed seamstress that I'd hope would do something close to my grandma's work. I found Leah and went to her - I felt so comfortable and trusted her right away. I yelped locations close to my job and there it was! Great reviews but what chance would I have to get my dress tailored. I had issues with my dress and it had just arrived the day before I went to La Robe. Let's just say I arrived at 12:30PM on a Thursday and Leah an her assistant had me go and try on my dress. Leah started measuring and marking the area where I needed adjustments and she asked me "when do I need the dress by?" and I replied "the latest tomorrow" she stated "you kidding, right?!" Whether the dress has been too big or too small, she's been able to work her magic and make me look beautiful for the event. Since she is a dressmaker, she really understands how the garment needs to fit a woman's body. Leah does wonderful alterations. She took in my wedding gown that had such an intricate back. I still wonder how she did it. Her fee is also very reasonable and she gets the alterations done in a reasonable amount of time. If you need anything extra, she can help you find it, and she will help you make your dress look perfect. She was very friendly. Ehh, came in to get the top cover of my wedding dress taken in a bit and to put some buttons on the bottom to hold my train for the reception. Buttons were great, the top cover was removable Leah just needed to move the buttons a little so it would fit snug. Well, I guess she didn't sew them on right because they definitely popped off as we were taking pictures. Had to remove the cover sooner than planned because it was dangling on one side. For what I paid, I could've done it myself. And it would've lasted all night. read more

I lost weight so I needed more work on the top to be taken in. I was anxious to Take the dress to Leah but it worked out perfectly. She met my mom and I told me I didnt need a hem only a pettiskirt and a bustle. She took in the sides and sold me a garment bag. One of the worst customer service experiences me or my fiance ever had. She called the store, looking to get a price quote on a wedding dress alteration. She was told to come down at any time, and when she arrived, she was told that in order to get an idea of the price she would need to put the dress on and have it pinned. During this whole time, Leah was curt and dismissive of my fiance's suggestions. It is one thing to give your customer a professional opinion that their ideas would not work, but this should be done with tact and courtesy. My fiance did not receive this expected level of respect during her visit. Leah pinned the dress and started to remove a bow so as to begin alterations, despite the fact that my fiance only wanted a price quote. Through these actions, the dress became torn in an area of mesh fabric. No remedy for this was offered, except for doing the alterations that my fiance was quoted. When I expressed to Leah my dissatisfaction with this customer service experience, I did not encounter somebody that was interested in rectifying the situation and earning my business. Instead, Leah complained about my fiance, claiming that she never requested a price. This is a bold-faced lie, and is an insult to my fiance, suggesting that she be so illogical as to ask for alterations to begin without first knowing how much the services would cost. She made no further attempt to treat me as a potential customer, instead raising her voice to rationalize her behavior and dismiss my concerns. I strongly recommend against going to this seamstress. If you feel that you must due to prices or location, be forewarned; make yourself as explicit as possible, and be prepared for a potentially terrible experience in which you appear to be more of a bother to the business than a valued customer. The conclusion of this saga was a trip to the nearby Gangemi custom tailors for the alterations. The difference in service was astounding, and we were very pleased with Gangemi. read more

Unbelievably. Bad. I brought a wedding dress to Leah for some very simple alterations - a tuck up top, a bustle, a button that needed replacing. Leah did an initial fitting and told me to come back in 3 weeks, making an appointment for 4pm on a Wednesday. When I got there for my appointment there was a sign on the door - "closed for Jewish holidays at 4pm" - a phone call would have been nice. I called to reschedule my appointment and was given an appointment for 2pm on Friday. When I arrived on Friday Leah was nowhere to be seen so I put on my dress...and discovered she had not even started on the alterations!! I was livid and ready to walk out the door, but with 2 weeks to go until my wedding my Mother convinced me I had to let Leah finish the dress. I returned on Sunday for a final fitting. The alterations had been done but with little care and for a lot of money - it should not cost $300 and an extra trip to Yonkers for a tuck, a bustle, and a button. I love my wedding dress but I regret ever working with Leah - my bustle broke less than 5 minutes after I bustled my dress and my train ended up a dirty mess as a result. I would warn any customer to stay away - overpriced, horrible customer service and poor workmanship, I pity the bride who chooses to have her alterations done by Leah. read more

I went to La Robe in search of a wedding gown. Unfortunately, the owner there doesn't know how to deal with customers, especially brides. One of the first things she said to me was, "you are a size 16", but I am really a 10. That comment made me feel terrible about myself and it made me feel extremely self-conscious. She continues to say maybe you are a size 10 in your upper body but not in your hips. In addition, the dresses there are also cheaply made and quite frankly ugly. After purchasing my dream bridal dress from Kleinfeld during their annual sample sale, I was disheartened by the astronomically high alteration prices which were the equivalent of a second bridal dress, if not someone's wedding dress at the very least. After hearing horror stories from brides who took their dresses to mom & pop shops with disastrous results, I was no doubt nervous. My sister came to rescue with a seamstress known as the best in Westchester. We visited Leah La Robe 3 months before my destination wedding in Spain for dress alterations. We were shocked to hear that the owner Leah had been in a very bad accident & rehabilitating. That's when her daughter Alana not only took excellent care of me, but also absolutely blew me away with her credentials - Alana is a designer herself - by both trade & passion with a degree. She has worked alongside her mom virtually her whole life and has herself created dresses & bridal gowns (I was able to witness one of her beautiful works in person.) Alana was not only very honest in what work I needed done to perfect my dress, but very reasonably priced as well. The shop's timeline worked perfectly with my travel itinerary, short of just bringing Alana with me to Barcelona. She revised the alteration vision with me from a 3 point bustle to a 5 point bustle, pulled in my straps, tapered the bodice in just a bit (I had to make sure I could still sit & dance ;) in it) & because I was so attached to the horsehair trim on my dress that I could not bear chopping it up, Alana respected my wishes, and completed side to side hem work. I was so pleased with her professionalism, timeliness, & expertise, that I brought my mother-in-law, two maids of honor, and bridesmaids here for their dress alterations as well. All of the dresses were perfectly altered whether with added boning, hemming, pulling in to resize/reshape, & the creation of shawls with leftover material. My final fitting was nothing shy of perfection & Leah was back in the shop & providing me with spot cleaning tips for the day of. As a bride, I could not recommend Alana & the shop anymore than I already have. She was a pleasure to work with, skilled, reassuring, and fair - essentially everything you look for when altering your bridal gown - THANK YOU! I will definitely return in the future for any formal attire alteration needs & 100% recommend to any bride out there! read more

My mom and I found La Robe by Leah by accident. I just started looking at wedding dresses online, so for our first trying-on session we had an appointment at another bridal shop. Before we left we saw it only had 1 star on Yelp - no thanks - so we did a quick search and saw Leah had the highest rating in the area. We went over there without an appointment, thinking that we might just get to look around if nothing else. Leah was awesome! She was so helpful and very willing to help to guide us through what we might be interested in. I tried on 5 dresses and she explained the alterations that could be done. She does alterations, men's clothes, children's clothes, jewelry, accessories, even invitations!
