Cheap premade pizza from Red Barron
    Brian R.

IF we could give this dump a ZERO rating that's what it would get. We knew it was off season and they would be closed Monday-Wednesday then open Thursday-Sunday we get that but when you are OPEN at least have servers cause when we went there the place was empty and the only way to order was thru the bartender at the bar. We ordered the Peppy pizza. 10 inch cheese and pepperoni. What they served us was a cheap BOX pizza not even close to any pizza we were expecting. So our opinion is just stay away don't waste your time or money.

Rented a boat from the marina onsite that had restroom, bar, fridge and slide!

We had a party of 11 for lunch to celebrate dad's 80th birthday. Staff, food and atmosphere were wonderful (tiki bar decor with lake front views) and they were very accommodating to our requests. Even allowed us to bring in a special cake and sliced it for us to eat later on the boat we rented for the day (so fun and the marina staff were awesome!). Loved the new menu and the food was so tasty. My son and I had the fish tacos (very tasty with a Caribbean style spicy seasoning), salads were HUGE, hamburgers cooked perfectly to everyone's taste and my husband was thrilled to get a big tenderloin. Everyone had a great time and we will definitely be back! Highly recommend!

We were staying at Fourwinds Resort and decided to stay on property to eat. We popped into the Windjammer about 5:30pm. It wasn't very busy - about half a dozen tables filled and a few people at the bar area. Although it wasn't very busy, things seemed a little frantic with the waitstaff. We saw at least 3 waiters at various times but the would disappear into the kitchen for several minutes. Maybe they were helping prepare food? No idea. We ordered the fish and chips, cheesesteak with sweet potato fries, and the fried green tomato BLT with potato salad. The fries served with the fish and chips had some kind of batter coating. Apparently the fish and cheesesteak were good because I didn't even get a taste. I really wanted to like the BLT. After all, it has FRIED GREEN TOMATOES! I really liked the tomatoes and the bacon, but the sandwich just didn't come together. There was a little avocado sauce smeared on the bun, but it just didn't give enough moisture or creaminess to the sandwich. I experimented with some leftover tartar sauce, the brazenly asked for ranch dressing. Ranch is so good with FGTs and I figured that it couldn't hurt. It wasn't bad. Overall, it was okay. I'd probably eat there again if we just didn't feel like getting out the car and driving.

Fries were good, but not fresh made.

Slow. Disorganized. Taking much much too long to get food, and we had to ask 3 times just to get server to take our order.

Hot wings were crispy. Sandwiches looked like what you make at home and were over priced. Go to Bloomington for dinner.

The presentation of their food looks good, but it was just a little less flavorful for some reason I had the fish platter looked great but just wasn't that good my wife had the tenderloin and it was three little piggies on a scale of 10. We did learn they do not do same day reservations so keep that in mind if you'd like to try and do so. I think the wait was more an issue of our group not being prepared as opposed to the restaurant not being accommodating. Once seated we were able to eat on the patio. We started with three separate appetizers for the table. We got fried pickles, pretzel bites and breaded mushrooms. The pickles and pretzels were tasty. My girlfriend loved the mushrooms, I did not eat any since I don't like mushrooms. For our mains we got The Bird with cottage cheese and brick chips as well as the Pork Chops with a baked potato and green beans. Both meals were tasty. The sides were all great. The chips were a great vessel to dip in the cottage cheese, if you don't do such a thing regularly you're missing out! The only complaint is The Bird is listed as "smothered" in cheese and bacon. I wouldn't describe it as smothered in any way. It is on it but smothered isn't the word I would use. Overall we would come back with a smaller group and hopefully the wait is less. We enjoyed our food. I would maybe like to try another dish to see if it is better than what I got. I did however, absolutely love the decor. As a huge basketball fan this is my type of place. You don't see many Cedric Maxwell jerseys in the wild!

Allow me to back up to our arrival. It was a nice day out, a little warm, but the patio is shaded. We asked if we could sit outside, as there were no other guests seated there at the time and the interior seemed rather dark and drab. Shortly after we were seated, my husband went inside to use the facilities and overheard the hostess telling our server that there was a table outside. She responded with a disappointed sounding "OUTSIDE?!" He returned to the table and told me about this as we reviewed the menu and specials while enjoying the little bucket of popcorn that they provide to each table, free of charge. The server, and her trainee, did take a while to come to our table, but she had a great attitude when they did. There was another server with a trainee shadowing him. They are also hiring, for anyone interested. We chose a peach margarita pitcher for $15. It was advertised on the sidewalk chalkboard like a special, but that is the regular menu price. It was the world's tiniest pitcher, but we still didn't finish it, so I guess it was perfectly-sized for the price. We also ordered potato skins as an appetizer. They were a bit stingy with the cheese, but extremely generous with the green onions. They were cooked well. Crispy skin with a fluffy, pillowy, potato inside. My husband, feeling more snacky than actually hungry, ordered two appetizers as his meal. He had the mini corndogs (very crunchy and delicious) and the onion rings. He said that everything hit the spot. The beer-battered fish came with two HUGE filets. They came to the table hot and crisp, but by the time I got them home, the beer-batter had gotten a bit soggy and grease-soaked. The side salad had huge chunks of iceberg lettuce (barely chopped) and some of the pieces were a bit brown around the edges. Sitting on the patio was nice and although there were several bees in the vicinity, the real flowers in the planter boxes surrounding the patio kept them distracted. After we ordered, several more patrons arrived and requested seating outside as well. There was a country playlist going and at least one of the songs had some pretty colorful language. As I heard the "MF" bomb drop for the second time, I looked around at the families with children sitting nearby. They appeared to be unphased. We noticed a dog bowl with "Roots" on it, so I'm guessing that they are pet-friendly. Eventually, I do want to return and try some of their burgers out.

Decided we'd do a dinner of beer cheese, salad and wings. Enjoyed the beer cheese and pretzels, though it's not something that I'd order regularly. Side salads fine, nothing memorable, but at least they were fresh and crispy. Liked the wings, I got hot, the wife got sweet thai chili. When ordering, she said she'd give me one or two of hers, but she liked them so much that she finished off the plate, so that's a rave review! My hot wings were reasonably spicy and meaty as well. Appreciated the wipes! It's not going to win a Michelin star, but if we were in the area, we'd visit the troll again.

The decor is quite unique, full of character, and the history adds to the experience. It feels like you're eating in a place that actually has stories to tell rather than another cookie-cutter restaurant. The food was good overall. The wings were excellent and definitely the highlight of the meal. I tried the lime sauce, which was good, though it tasted much more like a ranch-based sauce than I expected. My burger was cooked well, flavorful, and delicious... though I was disappointed to not see the caramelizes onions promised on the menu on it. Instead there was a sad looking single piece of raw onion. Oh well. The sandwich on rye was just okay--not bad, but it didn't stand out. Fries were good and perfectly seasoned. Service was friendly and attentive, although things moved a little slower than expected during our visit. Now for the bathroom area... let's just say the journey to get there felt like the opening scene of a horror movie where someone says, "I'll be right back." It definitely adds to the pub's quirky charm, but I do wish that area--and the restaurant in general--were a bit cleaner. Overall, Troll Pub is worth a visit for the atmosphere, history, and great wings. Come for the unique experience, stay for the burger, and maybe bring a flashlight for the bathroom adventure.
