I've tried almost everything on their lunch special and they're all pretty decent. It's divey so you know exactly what you're getting but not in a bad way. The lunch deal is great: about $9 for a meal over rice (or noodle dish) with either soda, soup, or egg roll. None of the food has a ton of actual substance (the wonton soup has two wontons, the meat dishes have much more rice than meat, etc.). Like that brown rice is not an added charge. Despite having similar items on the menu, many neighborhood Chinese places add a little something (such as a more authentic dish or a different sauce, or super fresh or spicy items) to make one's dining experience memorable. I couldn't find that je ne sais quoi at Win Hou. The owner is polite, took the order meticulously, and repeated it to ensure it was correct. The place is very clean. The Steamed Dumplings were extra doughy and there wasn't enough pork filling. The Large Broccoli order was the best thing we ordered. Fresh, vibrant green broccoli with a brown sauce and a bit of heat (spicy) in the mix. The Moo Shu Pork was plain, not enough flavor, and the pancakes couldn't hold the small amount of filling that I placed inside. The Triple Delight w Garlic Sauce contains shrimp, beef, chicken with mixed vegetables in a brown sauce. The menu labeled it spicy, but we tasted neither garlic nor heat. As a Chinese-American living on Long Island, Win Hou is hands down my favorite Chinese takeout restaurant on the island. Highlights: tender (& flavorful) chicken and beef, friendly owners (they speak both mandarin and English), and no MSG!! My family has regularly ordered takeout from Win Hou for 10+ years, and since moving further out east, this is still our go to! Sesame chicken: I love ending my meal with a bite of sesame chicken bc the sweetness is just so satisfying Request brown rice for that health-conscious alternative to white rice, and the different size portions (regular and large) make it super convenient if you're looking to try multiple dishes (although large makes for great leftovers for the next day.) Not even hot when we picked it up. I dont know about the other dishes but if these basics are bad I doubt anything else is great. People complain that this food is bland but i rather eat from here than eat the extremely Msg greasy sodium filled chinese from other establishments. As far as the best dishes to get from here: Chicken fried rice and in general their fried rice beats any from any chinese take out that ive been to since they add fresh bean sprout onion and actually recognizable pieces of chicken breast. Best dish to combine this with is the boneless spare ribs which is in my opinion their best meat dish and beats boneless spare ribs from sooooo many places in the sense that it is so much more meatier less fat and resembles real pork. Win Hou is a great Chinese food takeout place. We've ordered delivery from here for about 5 years on average once a week. Delivery times for orders are ridiculously quick. They also do not mess up orders at all. I really like the vegetable rolls, egg drop soup and fried rice, but everything is generally good hence our long-standing commitment to Win Hou. Ok. It's my third time try for this Chinese take out store. The experience wasn't good in the first two times but I just want to give a try again. This time I only order hot and sour soup( afraid to waste my money) and the soup looks like a soy sauce soup. The soup is so salty and has little ingredient. I feel I am drinking a bowl of say sauce soup. When I told the lady that I only need a large hot and sour soup, the lady show little attitude already. This is my favorite Chinese takeout place near my workplace. Often, my coworkers would order from this place collectively and ask Win Hou to deliver it. Unfortunately, this drives up my costs since I pay between $6.50-$7 including tip to get a meal. Judging from the name of this place, I guess Chinese people haven't thought about how this name affects non-Chinese people's perceptions. The words take a improper spin when the words "Win Hou" becomes "Win Ho" and people laugh until no end. Actually, the takeout name means "forever good." I used to go there myself and order and pick it up myself using a credit card. The lunch specials are not a bad deal at all from 11:30am to 3:30pm starting at $4.25. Each special comes with either soup or soda, white or fried rice. I always order hot and sour soup with fried rice, because fried rice has pork in it. Actually, with this takeout place, my coworkers always order according to their own personal taste and Win Hou would not charge for requests such as to make it extra spicy, extra sauce, omit certain items in the meal, or to substitute one thing for another. One thing Win Hou does lack in is customer service skills and their ability to handle high volume calls. It appears that this is a family or tight-knit business and they do not speak Cantonese. On the take out menu, they have two phone numbers to serve customers, but most of the time, I am better off calling the first number on there as there is only ONE person taking both phone lines anyway and the second line might not even be picked up. Every time I'm there, the same lady is juggling all the phone calls on multiple lines and she can't even write fast enough to take care of them all. Obviously, those who show up at the place must patiently wait until she is done with the phones in order to be helped. Everybody has a hectic job there and there is no room to help another out because the orders are coming in like crazy during lunch time, although sparingly, the girl packing orders can take a phone call or two and the cashier/phone lady can afford to help pack and order on her spare time. There are two cooks constantly cooking and one delivery man. It's a mystery to me, but it's probably because this is the only Chinese takeout in the area, which is good for them obviously, because the competition tends to close down, but if business is booming successfully like that, I would honestly advise them to spend a little more profit money to hire another person at least for the lunch time hours. With less staff to handle orders, mistakes happen from time to time. The way the lady speaks to her customers is also frowned upon, mostly because of her limited English skills, but I guess no one cares since she is still getting another million phone calls. She does not have to be nice and she gets the job done. In times where my coworkers orders were mishandled, Win Hou does give credit back to for the next order. For example, if our office order is missing a soda, one will be credited back the next time. If an order is incorrect, Win Hou needs to take back that specific order in order to get the correct one. For people who like to eat there, there are more than a few hard seat booths where customers can eat and read a newspaper at their leisure. read more

I decided to get a lunch special around 1 PM to save for dinner, ordering the from the luncheon special (offered 7 days a week, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM) which includes pork fried rice/white rice and soup (wonton, egg drop, hot & sour) or egg roll or soda. I went for my usual Sliced Chicken with Garlic Sauce ($4.75) with pork fried rice and hot & sour soup. To my amazement, I didn't eat it until 6:00 PM, and the food was still very warm. Portions are pretty standard here, with the lunch special served in a circular white plastic tray (square shaped trays are usually used for dinner). A little less than 3/4 of the platter was fried rice, which was average at best, the rice ever so slightly softer than to my liking. Fried rice is at its best when you use yesterday's white rice. The fried rice had some decent flavor though it could have used more pork cubes to make the rice more substantial. I was a bit disappointed with the chicken portions, which I only found about 15 small slices, and an abundant amount of vegetables ranging from peppers, onions, mushrooms, brocolli, snow peapods, and carrots. The chicken was tender and tasty, but the vegetables tasted as if they a couple days old. The broccoli and peppers were not crisp at all, more on the mushy side. The snow pea pods seemed very dark in color and also lost its crisp, fresh taste. The onions were the only decent vegetable in the dish, which doesn't lose its freshness and get old as other vegetables do. The hot & sour soup was familiar, though slightly on the vinegar-side. Not too strong, but noticeable. I still enjoyed my food, but everything seemed to be off-key. I might consider coming back again to give Win Hou another chance, or stick to my usual, Liu's Garden which is just down the block (1-2 miles westbound on Union Turnpike). I've grown very fond of this small Chinese take out place over the years, living close by. Though I have had better Chinese cuisine, their dishes are consistantly tasty, the portions standard to most small Chinese restaurants, and the staff friendly. Their delivery time is also rather speedy. They've made it to my house about a mile away with dinner for 3 in roughly 15 minutes a few times, and it's extremely rare that I have to wait more than 25. They have some of the better sesame chicken in the area, and their chicken teriyaki is also quite tasty, though it can be a bit watery sometimes. I had to get my contractors lunch and out of convienience I went here and got lunch specials of beef teriyaki and chicken with garlic sauce. The beef teriyaki had 4 slices of beef, and the entire plate was just rice and vegetables, huge waste for 8 dollars. The chicken and broccoli was the same, my contractors were still hungry. I have a meeting in the area every few months and the office always orders out. Over the past two years we have ordered from Win Hou over ten times, as they deliver and we can continue to work through lunch. The quality varies from merely acceptable to poor. Our last order on July 17, 2017 was the worst. The wonton soup is always flavorless and the dumplings are always hard and flavorless. The fried rice is pale and also lacks flavor, similar to the egg-rolls. The ribs are pretty good, although overall we have decided not to order from them anymore. Additionally, the orders, upon delivery are often incorrect, lack enough utensils and napkins. Went to Win Hou tonight and ordered an order to take out. I ordered a small won-ton/egg drop soup, a small order of boneless ribs, and a small chicken with string beans, light on the sauce. This was not a good experience. The soup was fine but that's where it ends. The boneless spareribs have a decent flavor but they are burnt and extremely dry. I guess one saving grace is they are not fatty. The chicken and string beans was not good at all. The string beans were mushy and tasteless and the chicken was in tiny little strands, closer to shredded chicken, not what one would expect. The service was quick and efficient but when I asked for a container of house duck sauce the woman gave me a tiny cup the size of the tip of one's index finger and as small as it was it was only half full to boot. When I politely asked if I could have another one she stated "Only one free per order". I wonder if she would ever realize how distasteful that is. I would give ZERO stars if I could - I ordered food with no onions because im deathly allergic, but it came with tons of scallions -- when I called and informed them of the error, they actually argued that scallions are not onions rather than offering to correct the order.
