Despite having similar items on the menu, many neighborhood Chinese places add a little something (such as a more authentic dish or a different sauce, or super fresh or spicy items) to make one's dining experience memorable. I couldn't find that je ne sais quoi at Win Hou. The owner is polite, took the order meticulously, and repeated it to ensure it was correct. The place is very clean. The Steamed Dumplings were extra doughy and there wasn't enough pork filling. The Large Broccoli order was the best thing we ordered. Fresh, vibrant green broccoli with a brown sauce and a bit of heat (spicy) in the mix. The Moo Shu Pork was plain, not enough flavor, and the pancakes couldn't hold the small amount of filling that I placed inside. The Triple Delight w Garlic Sauce contains shrimp, beef, chicken with mixed vegetables in a brown sauce. The menu labeled it spicy, but we tasted neither garlic nor heat. I'd stop by again for some stirfry bok choy or broccoli in the future. Otherwise it's an unimpressive experience.

As a Chinese-American living on Long Island, Win Hou is hands down my favorite Chinese takeout restaurant on the island. Highlights: tender (& flavorful) chicken and beef, friendly owners (they speak both mandarin and English), and no MSG!! My family has regularly ordered takeout from Win Hou for 10+ years, and since moving further out east, this is still our go to! Here's a list of our favorites: Chicken and broccoli: tender chicken, not too salty, delicious broccoli cooked well through. Beef chow fun (not pictured): the beef is out of this world! (can use a little more beef bc it's so good, but sometimes the boss gives a little extra beef and that makes our day!) Chicken Lo Mein: a classic staple Special order (beef, onion, carrot, scallion, mushrooms): this is essentially the beef chow fun without the chow fun. The beef is once again the super star in this dish!! Sesame chicken: I love ending my meal with a bite of sesame chicken bc the sweetness is just so satisfying Request brown rice for that health-conscious alternative to white rice, and the different size portions (regular and large) make it super convenient if you're looking to try multiple dishes (although large makes for great leftovers for the next day.) The couple that runs the shop is extremely friendly and memorize orders when you're a regular. Keep up the great work!

Got roast pork with eggplant in garlic sauce. Again that type of pork, not my favorite, but the purple eggplant was nicely cooked. Plenty of nice sauce. Could've used a few more veg. Very good pork fried rice. Ice cold water. Very good lunch.

Watery wonton soup broth- no pork and boring flavorless wontons- looks like something else I know lol

We ordered wonton soup, dumplings and white rice onre night recently for a simple dinner. Soup was watered down not a typical chinese broth and everything was underwhelming. Not even hot when we picked it up. I dont know about the other dishes but if these basics are bad I doubt anything else is great. Go to Empire Garden down New Hyde Park Road and get a better fast food chinese or Chef Wang for the real deal!

Singapore rice noodles ,delicious.

It's a hit or miss. The food can be bland sometimes. More spices and salt is needed at all times.

We are what we served our selves round two. Again they where lingering and observing what we served our selves. My guest saw they had put out ribs and attempted to serve them selves and the waitress said no eat you lunch that dinner. This drew attention and I said if that's dinner we'll pay dinner what's the problem. No you lunch she said. I was dumb found. So we went back to the booth shrugging it off. 5 minutes past and here comes the check. I'm just digging into plate two. She then came over thinking I was done mind you the plate is more than half full. Grabbed my fork and ask me if I was finished. At this point I wanted to speak with management. But guess what folks there was no one that spoke English fluently enough to have a conversation. From what I got from the male who's job is to watch and stir the food. There was no one in management present. At this point I was ready to go ASAP. All I got because I was flustered was sorry sorry. I paid my tab leaving my plate partially full and walked out. My guest left a pair of glasses behind and we had to go back to retrieve it. I will never go back and would not recommend this buffet to my worst enemy. I was insulted, embarrassed and hungry. In conclusion I called later on that evening and left a message because no one answered go figure. It is now 10:15 pm and have not received a call back to address my concern. Again go figure. So don't bother you might get more than you bargain for. True story. Written by Victor velez the guy who would have tipped.
