I LOVE this place! Going out to breakfast is something I love to do because I love eggs and corn beef hash. I basically order the same thing at every breakfast restaurant I go to (it makes it really easy to form an opinion). I'm pretty sure my small cholesterol issue can be blamed completely on my obsession on over medium eggs! If you like corn beef hash order it here, it will not disappoint! The service is fast, friendly enough, the food is cheap, and tastes great if you are looking for a traditional diner breakfast. My wife and I took our two (2) young grandsons to Wilson's Diner for breakfast. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted and immediately seated. I ordered a Western omelette, my wife ordered French toast and my grandsons ordered the pancakes from the children's menu. The food arrived in minutes and was piping hot. This was a good, classic diner. We came in for brunch one weekend morning and it was full. There was only two of us, so we eventually snagged spots at the bar--there isn't a whole lot of seating and it stays full. Thankfully, it's breakfast so most people don't take too long. We enjoyed sitting at the bar and watching everyone work. The owner himself was doing a good chunk of the cooking, working the griddle, cooking up eggs, bacon, home fries, and pancakes. Everything was really good and came out quickly. The staff was also very nice and helpful. The only complaint I have is that the pancakes needed a little bit more time on the griddle. One of mine was raw in the middle so I didn't eat it. Probably for the best--I really didn't *need* a second pancake. I go to Wilson's diner every week when I'm visiting my dads, it's my favorite breakfast place to go while visiting my dads, it is by far my favorite breakfast restaurant in the world, the people are nice, the food is outstanding, they have good seating, and it's just the perfect place to have breakfast. The breakfast I ordered was really good, the bacon exactly how I asked for it, but if I had seen the bathroom before I had ordered my food, I would've made a pass. I would've left without ordering. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting. To me the care and cleanliness of the bathrooms reflects on the care and cleanliness of the restaurant. I ordered the corned beef hash omelette while my bf ordered the blueberry pancakes with a side of sausage. Our orders were cooked and served in less than 10 minutes. Such a great breakfast spot! My bf had the egg Benedict and I had the spartan breakfast and we wiped our plates clean! The food was delicious, best breakfast we tried near Boston! The owner made the food in front of us and served us right off the pan. He was a sweet and funny Greek man who you can tell loves his business and cares for it. Coffee was fresh and hot and the woman taking our order was very sweet. The diner looks vintage and the booths probably fit 4 people snug, or you can sit at the bar end and enjoy a nice conversation with the owner. Our bill came up to 28$ and I also got a lollipop on my way out :) all in all, super good food, super nice owners, go and enjoy ! :) read more

Sunday brunch in Waltham is not simple. This place also had a line, but it moved quickly, we sat at the counter, that was great. The orders were a bit off, you get what you get, and that's what you get kind of detail. E.g. no whole wheat and I'm pretty sure this omelette is yours. Coffee was ok; already had milk. I would go back if the other options have a long wait and I'm impatiently hungry. Other than that, If they get better coffee it would be an automatic upgrade. read more

This was my first diner visit in long time. In fact, first diner I'd been to east of the ol' Miss. I had the Milwaukee Flu and a buddy suggested going to the diner for breakfast. We walked a few blocks from the Walt The Pig (Waltham) train station to Wilson's. Dang, had to wait for about 15 minutes. Not too bad. Food was standard breakfast fare, but the portions were better than I expected and the price reasonable. Staff was very nice. Perhaps I should say "extremely" nice as the place was packed. The only issue that I had that prevents them from getting that extra star is the bussing. The tables sat for a few mintues before they were cleared and that added to the wait...which I noticed was about 30 min for folks that came in after me. I wouldn't go outta my way for this place, but if you are near by and want good food in a comfy place, this works. And, BTW, after eating, my flu was pretty much gone ;) read more

What a total feeling of delight when I spotted this adorable old fashioned diner right on Main Street in Waltham. Being originally from New Jersey (the land of great diners) I was glad to have such an authentic lunch car near by. The staff at Wilson's is so friendly and you can tell it is a family run business from the heart. The owner/cook (?) is hilarious and kind. The food is really cheap and pretty decent. I had grilled cheese with tomato and fries on my first visit. My boyfriend and pancakes. We both enjoyed our brunch. The coffee was good too! Nothing fancy, pretty standard stuff. Wilson's is pretty much the picture of a greasy spoon diner, the scarcity of which is arguably one of greater Boston area's greatest shortfalls. As such, this place gets a big thumbs-up from me just based on the fact that it's an actual Worcester Lunch Car diner. Plus it's within a few miles of my house, so that doesn't hurt either. Service is fast and friendly, coffee is quick. My omelette was decent and came with homefries and toast. The english muffin was grilled (thumbs up) but the homefries were pretty much just boiled cubed potatoes warmed up on the grill (thumbs down). I know this is a common style of preparing breakfast potatoes, especially in Greek diners (of which this is one), but they usually throw some seasoning salt on them or something at other places. I just drowned them in ketchup and hot sauce, both of which were within arm's reach. The best deal on the menu looked to be the smaller of the breakfast specials- two eggs, toast, homefries, meat, and coffee for $4.50. The best part of the whole Wilson's experience is the guy running the grill- he's fast and furious with the omelettes, eggs, and griddlecakes, and it's fun to watch him work. He's also hilarious- when I was there he was jokingly hitting on a girl who came in with a group of guys (right in front of his wife). He must be fifty or something, and he's a character. Oh, and extra points for a menu item called 'Diddle in the Middle'. "This word you keep using... I do not think it means what you think it means." So if you're hungry, it's morning, and you're not a fussy gourmet, stop on in. Unless there's a line out the door... then keep rollin' up Main to some of Waltham's other breakfast offerings. read more

I love diners, especially Worcester Lunch Cars, which is what Wilson's is. I was really excited about two years ago when I moved to Waltham and discovered there was a Worcester car walking distance from my house. The diner itself is very well-preserved, but that's about all it has going for it. I'm willing to put up with some pretty middling diner food, but these guys can't even get an omelet right. The food is flat-out mediocre to bad. The coffee is not very good, either. One exception is their grilled blueberry muffins: these, I like. I've been to Wilson's about a dozen times, usually when I need a diner fix and don't want to drive. But as much as I really wanted to make this my regular breakfast place, I just can't get past the bad food. read more

As a college student, what's not to love about inexpensive, delicious diner food on a Sunday morning? Wilson's is filled with charm and the smell of greasy breakfast meats. Arriving at around noon today, parking was a bit of a hassle, but my party of 5 only had to wait about 5-8 minutes before a booth opened up. Certainly one valid complaint is that the booths are small and, while we did manage to fit all 5 people, it was a bit cramped. HOWEVER, bodily comfort notwithstanding, my cheese omelet ($6, with a side of homefries and whole wheat toast) and coffee ($1) were entirely worth it. Wilson's provides excellent value and a unique diner experience. The man behind the counter, grill master, and presumably owner, was very charming and made a funny old man joke about our booth of 5 girls ("each one prettier than the next"). I will certainly be back to Wilson's- nothing cures the remnants of a Saturday night like some good ol fashioned eggs, taters and toast. read more

I used to like Wilson's a lot. Wilson himself is super nice and friendly, and the food comes out very good. Low prices and quick turnover, which is why the diner is always packed Complains I have are the service and quality. There is this one middle aged woman who is a waitress there, and she has a terrible attitude. Once my friend was in a rush to catch a plane to go back home and we tried to get her attention so we could be out of there ASAP. She meandered over after 3 minutes and lazily set the place settings up. Afterwards we tried giving her our orders and we told her we were in a hurry and she rudely snapped at us and told us to calm down and not be in such a rush. Uhm, excuse me? It's one thing if we were rude to her, but we asked her very nicely if she could take our orders and we waited while she dilly dallied. And if we are in a rush, that's our own business - it's not like we told her to make our order faster or anything. She was so rude that every time I'm tempted to go into Wilson's I don't. Regardless of the service, the food is decent. The homefries are disgusting though (Friendly's are much much better) but the rest of the specials are decent for the prices you pay. read more

Cheap, very traditional diner food with no frills (not totally homemade or at all). I like the character of the old diner (bathroom available and although it's access is outside, it's heated inside) and the service is friendly. But I really love that nicely browned mash up of corned beef every once in a while and mixed with some nice over easy eggs, it somehow feels like being home (even when no one at home would ever think to make something like this...). :) read more

The last original diner left in Waltham. The actual original diner was on main st in waltham called The Monarch. I used to live right behind it and had breakfast there almost every day and lunch at "SAL's!!!!" Miss you Sal!! Anyway, It's not the best place to eat but I give it 4.9 stars. I don't have any complaints whatsoever with this diner. It's as clean as clean can get for diner traincar and the family are always friendly and the service is quick. I've never seen it totally full through the years but it is never without regular customers every week. read more

My friends and I decided to take a stroll and preview this diner for breakfast yesterday - - - it fulfilled my small-town diner itch. Established in 1949, the diner became a Watch-City-hot-spot, and (after fifty years of continuous devoted patronage) was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. The interior is that of a narrow trolley car (booth seating and counter seating), you may need to wait - but you'll be glad you stuck around for this diner grub! *prices are phenomenal! I got the "3-egg Special": 3eggs, toast (white/wheat/english muffin), hashbrowns, meat (ham/bacon/sausage), OJ and coffee (with free refills) was $6.75....beat THAT! *service was relatively quick, however, there was only one waitress (and she seemed kind of stressed). *decor/cleanliness: it's an old-timey diner (doesn't look like it has ever gotten a facelift...it's clean, but in an old-fashioned sort of way). I don't mind this as this destination is similar to the diners I grew up frequenting. *Reason for 4stars and not 5: Bizarre hours [Mon - Fri 6am - 3pm, Sat 6am - 2pm, Sun 7pm - 2pm] means that it's for early-rise breakfast people only (sometimes I want my breakfast foods for dinner) and staff was so-so friendly. *CASH ONLY!!!!! you won't need much to buy your breakfast....but come prepared to pay with bills, not plastic. read more

Generally pleasant dining experience - obviously a lot of the draw is that it's a classic-looking, oldschool diner. I really wanted to love it, but I think I could have ordered better - the other people eating with me got a better meal, I think. I got the cheeseburger lunch and was hoping for a burger, but I got two patties on a plate covered with brown gravy with a side of mashed potatoes and corn. I'm pretty sure that everything there came from a box. Other dishes our table got included an omelette and a chicken sandwich, both of which looked a lot better than the cheeseburger plate. This place gets points for being a real diner. The food was a downer. I don't like bagels to taste of sugar, and the one given to me on my breakfast sandwich was unbearably sweet. I gave it to the bf. The omelet was passable, I guess. They used processed cheese, which just made me feel dirty. Not in that good way. Boyfriends meal did not spark any interest. Homefries were meh. It was surprisingly not very crowded for a Saturday, but it was later in the afternoon. The service was friendly, and that was appreciated. Just your run of the mill diners... Except it was nothing spectacular. We were visiting from put of state and was recommended by a friend. Honestly it just was not that impressive. Had the basic breakfast food. They do have very generous portions, but the French toast was kind of blah- no flavor. Place doesn't take cash, which stinks, because I don't carry cash- had to drive down the block to an ATM, because the ATM was broke next to the building. We were visiting my sister in Boston and stumbled upon Wilson's while looking for breakfast on our first morning there. Boy did we hit the jackpot. We were greeted by the AMAZING staff as though we were family that had been coming there for 20 years. I could go on forever about the waitresses. You rarely get that personal connection that I feel is so important when eating out and here they had it in spades. I always ask the wait staff what they like as of course they know the menu best and I was recommended the hash Benedict. It was absolutely spectacular. My son had the pancakes which were also wonderfully fluffy and delicious. By the 2nd morning we went to eat there we were already being greeted by name and they were bringing my dog water. We had a wonderful conversation with several of the wait staff (which again, I cannot say enough good things about) who were truly engaged with every single customer while we enjoyed our delicious omelettes. Everything about this place screams classic diner. The diner car makes it a fun experience, but everything is clean. The food is really good. If you are craving delicious, not very healthy diner food, that's exactly what you're going to get. The prices are also crazy cheap. The owner himself is the magician behind the grill. He is extremely charming and the diner car atmosphere is clean and cozy. Not much to say that hasn't been said 100 times already. As far a diners go, Wilson's is exactly what you would hope/expect. The food comes out quickly, is prepared precisely as you ordered it, and usually delivered with a joke from the guy who I assume is the owner. The food is consistent in terms of quality and speed. We've been several times, but only for a quick breakfast on our way to or from something else. You don't really linger here because there is such a high turnover and frankly its not that comfortable. At least during the weekend. But who cares, you didn't come here for the comfort. You came for the eggs and watered-down diner coffee! Never did lunch but am interested in some of the meals they advertise on the wall. Make sure you bring cash as credit cards are not accepted. We'll be back, but it we want to linger and do anything more than eat and run, we'll go back to Josephs 2, down the street. Would have been 4 stars but a leak in the roof dripped down my back!
