Calling it like it is, Heidi's is a solid traditional diner with a traditional menu, the food i would say is better than average, the home fries crispy and seasoned the omelets are what you'd expect an omelet to be the portions are generous. I really like Heidi's. I have only gotten takeout, but if I want a simple and reliably good breakfast, it's been my recent go to. Their potatoes aren't overly crispy but seasoned well. Pretty subpar breakfast place. Would only go here if I literally could not make breakfast at all or the grocery store was closed. It was not that good. Nothing note-worthy. Nasty cheese on the bagels. Very basic. Instead go to Cafe Fresh Bagel, about 10 mins up the rode. I would not recommend this place. Okay, so the food is good HOWEVER it took literally 45-50 minutes to get our order ( mind you we are talking about eggs and pancakes that literally take 3 minutes to cook). Now this was the second time this happened. The first time we thought it was just a fluke or someone called out and didn't have enough help in the kitchen and we went back again probably 6 months later and had the same problem. I also want to state that the place was not at capacity there were some empty seats at the counter and the outdoor seats only had 1 table occupied. Also my breakfast sandwich was good however it seemed like there was barely one egg in it. It's like they found the smallest egg possible and used that for the sandwich. What a great find this place is. Super friendly service and super tasty food. I had the hash and cheese omelette with rye toast (which was marble rye. Lucky for me!)and home fries that are out of this world. The owner "George" is super friendly and attentive to all his customers and knows them all by name which tells me that people keep coming back for more which I can't blame them. My wife and I always enjoyed going to Heidi's for breakfast on the weekends. It's an unassuming place. They dont offer anything fancy, but what they do offer is consistantly good food at prices you dont find anywhere. I'd rather the food be good, than fancy. Who needs Snickers pancakes in the morning? Looking at you In a Pickle. The staff always made sure we had what we needed, and they were always working so hard every time we went there. But what you will find here is Great Food, Fairly Priced with Great Wait Staff and Ownership (how many places do you know that hand out candy to little children)!!! And I absolutely love the staff there, mainly George, who's pretty much the main man behind the operations. We had high hopes for this place when we recently moved to Waltham and could walk here. These hopes were quickly dashed when we sat down at the crowded counter and waited at least 15 minutes to at least be recognized by the disgusting greasy waiter behind the counter. After finally ordering we had to endure 20 minutes of watching this man run his fingers through his sweaty hair while alternating between serving customers and popping tater tots into his mouth. I am not sure everyone on here is hating Heidi's it really is pretty good if you are looking for a cheap, greasy breakfast. First, they open at midnight so you can get that bacon, egg and cheese at 2:30 AM. I have never been there at this hour though. My now fiancee used to live right down the street and since he does not cook he took me here for breakfast several times. They have good ice coffee, yes the guy manning the counter is big and greasy but he is super personable and it is the ladies out back who cook the yummy food. I really like their breakfast sandwiches and my fiancee likes the eggs. I would try it if you are in the mood for a greasy diner breakfast. You will not be let down. FYI: cash only. read more

The first time we went to Heidi's we ended up walking out. The table we sat at was crammed in the corner near the restrooms. The smell and overall lack of cleanliness put us off. That was 8 months ago. We recently decided to give this little place another chance. After all, it is always full of locals so how bad can it be. I was shocked at how tasty the food was. The eggs were cooked well, tasted fresh and weren't all covered in grease. The homefries were excellent. The coffee was average. The pancakes were good but the Belgium waffle was disappointing. They still need to clean this place up but if you can deal with it and don't mind hobnobbing with some Moody st characters, its not bad. I'm giving them 3.5 stars, If they cleaned up the place I would give them 4 stars. read more

I haven't eaten at Heidi's in years despite it's close proximity. It was just me and my 2 year old son. No one came to our table for 10 minutes. Finally, someone came by, I ordered a milk for my son and coffee for me. 10 minutes later, I asked him if I could get those drinks. He brings me coffee with cream in it. At this point, I've been there for 20 minutes with a toddler who is hungry and get loud. When I ask if the guy if he's going to be able to serve us or not, he snaps at me that he can take my order or I can leave. I chose to leave and I will never be back. The fact that this disgusting human being could treat myself and a TWO YEAR OLD THAT JUST WANTED HIS MILK with such disdain is despicable. read more

I was dragged here for breakfast by a friend who has been eyeing the place on every drive down Moody. It was busy and we were forced to stand awkwardly at the front door waiting for someone to notice us. This went on for almost ten minutes when we finally we realized only 3 people were running the whole place. One woman was cooking, one woman was waitressing, and a man (maybe the Son of Heidi and Son?) was manning the counter. He apologized several times and we waiting patiently while cranky old people complained about us blocking the specials board. After a while we were seating a dirty table and the man came to take our order. We noticed that another woman come in, dropped her kids at a table of gentleman hanging out in the corner, and join the cook in the kitchen... very Greek Soprano's. The people are friendly, location is convenient, and the food is cheap. It has a nice local feeling and is obviously family run. On the other head, it isn't very good and I couldn't help but wonder how many health code violations were being violated during my visit alone. Hidden perk, a great place for people watching! You can say what you like, but I like Heidi's. It's real, and has character. Or rather characters. They work there. The head waitress has always been there when I go for breakfast, and she's really funny. She seems crabby, but I can't tell if it's how they behave where she came from (I can't tell if she's Greek or Russian) or if it's because she thinks it's funny, but she's actually sweet behind all that. I used to breakfast there fairly regularly with my friend who lived up the street, and she always remembered my friend's order. Food is greasy spoon quality and diner quantity at diner prices. The dining experience is unremarkable besides the people-watching available in the background, but that's not a bad thing if all you want to do is get breakfast and read the paper. Lunch here is less enticing, and fairly unremarkable. With Moody Street's vast array of lunch choices, I don't know why you'd bother. read more

Heidi's is that local diner that opens doors at the crack of dawn during the week, and is open late night on the weekends. The service is standard, but when I say standard, I mean that it's never hit or miss- they always treat you warmly and make sure you're not missing anything from your meal. Cash only, but ATM inside. Just a testiment to the customer service, once I came to Heidi's for an early breakfast and found out that the ATM was temporarily out of service. We only had enough cash for half of the meal, and I was going to find a nearby ATM to withdraw from, but George said half was enough and that maybe next time we could settle the check. The food is fast, good, and inexpensive; I usually come here when I have a hankering for waffles. The location and long business hours make it convenient, too.
