To the waitress at Willy McCoy's last night who didn't bother actually checking if my appetizer contained something I'm allergic to before assuring me it didn't and causing me to eat said appetizer along with an ingredient I'm deathly allergic to: you should be ashamed of yourself. You also need SIGNIFICANT food safety training. It would have taken you five seconds to ask a cook in the back if ANY of the ingredients of my appetizer contained the food allergen. You came back going "oh yeah, I guess it does have XYZ" all blazé after I started having a reaction. You do realize you can KILL PEOPLE like that?! I was fortunate that my family was there, and they had medication on hand to help slow the reaction so I was able to be there with all my guests for a while longer. If you had even been remotely apologetic, it wouldn't bother me so much, but this is why I say you need to be retrained. Your actions literally could have killed me last night, and that is not okay. So, PSA if you have food allergies, AVOID WILLY MCCOY'S because they don't care if you live or die. EDIT: yes, I asked beforehand about whether the food item I wanted contained the allergen. Yes, the food item was taken off my bill. However, when this was brought up to the waitress that I was having a reaction and she came back and said the sauce contained the food allergen, her reaction was literally "well we have over 100 sauces sooo...." I'm sorry but it is your job to make sure you are safely serving your customers. You don't need to memorize the ingredients in every single sauce you have, but it is your job to ask someone who does know then. This establishment needs food safety training implemented ASAP before they kill someone. read more

Cheese curds are greasy as hell, made 2/3 of our party have stomach aches before the main course arrived. Burger was severely undercooked and had obscure toppings that weren't part of the menu listing. 2 for 1 beer would've been nice except the fact it tasted and smelled like old beer cans sitting in a bin on 100 degree day with bees everywhere. Came here for a happy hour for work. We had a large group, so they put us in the back room. I saw an ad for Angry Orchard rosé by the front door, so I wanted to try that. It looked so pretty and pink. ;) But they didn't have it, so they gave me the regular kind instead, without even letting me know in advance. And because it's 2 for 1, I got two glasses of it. I didn't want to be difficult, so I just drank both glasses. But if I had known that they didn't have the rosé, then I would have ordered something else. Oh well. The appetizers were served on disposable plates and they gave us plastic forks. Just your typical greasy bar food. But she said that the owner doesn't like the original style pressed crust on the flatter bread so he uses sub style instead. So my question is ? Is this really a Cuban ?? Met here with friends a couple weeks ago. Our server was excellent, and I'm a former hospitality veteran of nearly 20 years. I'm very hard to impress. The drinks were as expected, the specials were good. Every food item we ordered was hot, fresh and delicious. The best part, they are open normal hours and serve food til midnight. Great bar food--I need to bump them up to four stars! My daughter and I stopped by for lunch. We were a little apprehensive because the attached strip mall is SUPER ghetto. One side is a strip mall with 13 spaces...and 12 of them are empty. And the corner (east) has a Shell gas station that is closed and all boarded up. The other side (west) is a trailer park. But you know what? The food was GREAT and the service was fantastic! They made me a mean Bloody Mary. And for lunch, my daughter had a Pepperoni Flat Bread. I had a 70/30 Burger...70% ground beef and 30% ground bacon. It was all really, really good! I don't know what the late night bar scene is like. But don't let their neighbors put you off. No you're at a bar in a strip mall in Anoka. They have a small party room in back, where I ended up with a group a friends. I think someone called and reserved it in advance. It is always two for ones...which explains why the drinks were not so strong. A bit of confusion by our waitress, including that she forgot one person in our group for a very long time. They have good selection of beers here and some special ones that are not on the menu. It appears to me that they have 2 for 1 beers every night- a surprise to my brother- see the pic. He had the Day Tripper beer- an IPA sort. He gave gave it three thumbs up. I had the Paloma- which was not too sweet- a big plus in my book. We had the chicken stir fry- it was really a beautiful presentation. The sauce is hot- I like it, but my brother was glad for the extra beer. We also had the house chicken and wild rice soup. Where do I even start... Our server Nicole from the beginning didn't greet our table for almost 10 min and we tried to flag her down for service asking if she was our server. She says "yea" and walks away in a rush helping everyone else around us not saying "yes I'm sorry I'll be right with you!" Just "yea" and continues to ignore our table. And the thing I was surprising my Mom at dinner because I live out of state so we wanted to speak to the server to give her a proper heads up to make it a surprise for my mom but it turned into a terrible experience. Fast forward to us ordering our dinner. My sister is on a keto diet and asked our server if they had any nutritional info in the menu and she immediately says no without checking and acted as if it was such a inconvenience for her to accommodate her. As a server and bartender I'm pretty irritated at this point. Our drinks went empty to where WE had to go to the bar, never had silverware to eat our food and had to get ourselves which defeats the purpose of being waited on. Never got my soup and wad still charged. I mean I can keep going but I'm tired of typing. Tried to tell the manger from the beginning that we wanted a different server but instead they told her and she treated us like shit. Wonderful business they have. I'm not sure how this place is still in business. The wait staff is slower than a snail on a tar trap, the food... I am still not convinced it isn't made of cardboard and the drinks are either watered down or room temp, which would be fine if it was German beer... in Germany. The highchairs last time I went in were anything but high, the highchair did not fit the table even a little bit. The child's eyes were barely peeking over the top of the table, like one of those goofy cartoons everyone drew on their homework in the 90's. They do have a nice seating area and bar outside, and parking is decent, which is why they got 2 stars from me. I wish the smoker's section wasn't so close to the patio door, nobody wants a cloud of smoke blowing in over their food everytime the door opens. They also have a nice party room, but that's about it. Don't go in there expecting a lot and you may enjoy yourself. read more

This is a tough review. If you just want to go have a couple drinks and watch a game or sit o the patio, it's definitely 5 stars. I've always had good drink service, and the 2-1's are a pretty good deal. However, the food, is very ugh, probably about 2 stars. It's not that it's rotten or bad, just not good. They always ask how I want my burger, but regardless of the answer it's going to be well done, and not just kind of well done, but almost to the point of being a hockey puck. The wings are typical bar wings, if a little tiny, but taste fine. Everything else we've tried has just been ok at best. There is nothing on the menu that tempts you to come back again. Stick to drinks and deep fried bar fair and you'll be happy. Wish I could give it a better rating, as it's in the neighborhood and I'd love to have a spot to hit a couple times a week for a decent meal. read more

My SO had the wilted Lettuce Buffalo wrap...Wrap has no shortage of Franks Red Hot swimming in it. Waitress had a bad day but hey who doesn't .... My recent experience at Willy McCoy's was a poor one. First, any booze drinkers should stay away from this bar. The double whiskey cocktails me and my party ordered would have been an embarrassment to someone who ordered a single. The staff responded to the terrible drink with a lame excuse about how they are not allow to poor "strong" drinks. As our food was being delivered, the waitress dropped, and broke a cocktail glass against one of our plates of food, but served it anyways. After finding shards of glass on one of our dishes we at asked to return our food. The manager (that was dressed like a dishwasher) came out to attempt apology, but seemed as if to cop attitude. He retooled the dish with the glass in it, but thought nothing to look over the other two plates, which were inches away from the plate which the glass broke against. In fairness, the tab was comped. We would have left but we were meeting friends there so we had to stick around. I think everyone around the bar was on a different scale of wasted! Came here for dinner and drinks. Service was prompt and friendly but the food was not. I ordered a 6oz "filet mignon". It was very thin and tough and not cooked to order. The "steamed" veggies it came with were raw and dry. My boyfriend ordered the chicken fajitas, which were good... once we got them. They brought out the fixings for them with my meal but he didn't get the chicken sizzlers until 20 minutes and a talk with the manager later. This review is for the "new" Willie McCoy's located in Champlain at the old VFW. We arrived about 5 pm on a Saturday (last night) and waited at the bar for a table. This was our first trip to this restaurant and the atmosphere was good. Big televisions and many tap beer choices. However, once seated, things went downhill. Our waitress was awful, we had 15 minute waits between visits. When we finally got our appetizer order, beef bites, the little pile of cut up beef was hardly a good value. At the table I ordered a second beer, Surly Hell. What arrived 15 minutes later was something like Bud Lite. I brought up the fact that the beer was not Surly to the bartender. A guy at the bar said he also had ordered a Surly Hell and also was disappointed to be served lite beer. The bartender poured me another beer from the Surly Hell tap, and the same light beer came out. She left me with the light beer and said the tapper system was probably mixed up. She was going to look at it. That was the last I heard of the issue, that just left me with the light beer. The food arrived. Awful. My wife ordered chicken wild rice soup. Flavorless paste was what she described. My open face beef sandwich was a tiny pile of beef shreds on toast with some basic unseasoned mashed potatoes and a brown gravy dumped over both. That's it, for $12. Time to go. This event, at this point, took two hours. When the waitress arrived with our tab, $59, no itemization, I was just happy to leave. Two beers, two mixed drinks, one bowl of soup and one brown pile of "food" on a plate. But wait, there is more! I'm typing this at two thirty in the morning because by stomach is going nuts with digestive issues. Bad food, awful service, improper billing practices, and now I don't feel well. First visit we were there for 20 minutes with no service; tried to get drinks and a menu from the bar, but the bartenders were too busy chatting with friends to serve our party of 4. We went to Billy's patio. Second visit was with another couple; there was a table of 12 and another table of 4. Appies took over 40 minutes from order to table, as the kitchen was "overwhelmed". I work very close by and visit McCoy's at least once a week. The service and food has always been great. The only slight negative would be the $1 tacos on Wednesdays are a little week. Half price burgers on Monday are incredible. The absolute best is the Saturday steak special, it could be the best steak I have ever had. I can't believe it came from a bar. We had great friends in town and wanted a casual place to go out to eat. They praised Willy's food, service, atmosphere and prices. After dinner we went out on the patio to toss bags.
