What an awesome shop here in downtown Phoenix. I tried these guys out Friday night and was not disappointed. The service was super friendly and helpful, the dining area was clean and comfortable, and the Big Burrito lived up to its name, with Carne Asada, Carnitas, Beans, Sour Cream, and Cheese (I took off the guacamole and pico de geo). Two gentlemen running the front were super helpful and welcoming to a new customer. My burrito filled me up more then needed, lol. Keep up the good work here. read more

Saturday early afternoon. We got to the game early. A large crowd already. We walked over to Willies and they did not disappoint. We had a short wait in line. Ordered a carne asada taco a carnitas burrito and some elote! The taco Was fresh and tasty. The tortilla looked homemade. It tasted really good. The meat was seasoned to perfection with a verde sauce with a tiny kick. Just right! We tried the elote. Not bad at all. But the star of the show was the carnitas burrito. A very good portion of carnitas fresh guacamole and pico de gallo. Just fantastic! We shared everything and it was bomb. Oh yeah we ate the burrito in chase stadium. Dodgers vs diamondbacks. We were able to bring it in! We could not put it down. It was super flavorful and fresh. Nice and a bit greasy but flavorful. We grabbed a few salt packets but didn't need them Oh man. I will be coming back on a non game day! :D Service was excellent- they were all focused on taking care of the customer and getting the food out nice and hot! Drinks flowing. Had lunch here on Saturday after the Winter Wanderland. It's located in the arena area, right on a train stop. It's an open air place with outside tables; no table service, you order food and drinks at the counter and pick it up yourself. The food here was just outstanding. We had the nachos with chicken; the nachos are made in house and are crispy and strong enough to hold up the toppings. Also got the green butcher - award winning and deservedly so. We also got the fat daddy burrito with carne asada; very tasty and very big. There are a few types of salsa at a salsa bar available to top them; mango habanero, hot chile, tomatillo were all good. The bloody Mary's we had with lunch were tasty, and spicy; with spicy salt on the rim. Ask for it in a pint glass. Highly highly recommend - we will be back! read more

Since it's literally right next door to the stadium, we stopped by here before a game. Place is small with a patio, but in summer inside is king. Drinks are a tad expensive and the chips and salsa was overly too salty to even finish. But the atmosphere is great and the bartenders were all cool. read more

We got the maui wowie taco and salsa and chips. The taco wasn't fishy. However it was very light and low-key bland. If you're looking for a safe choice this would be a good choice for that. Also very expensive. The guy i was with said he would eat a bucket of them.... but he's from Minnesota...The chips and salsa were mediocre. They heat the chips which is nice. Came on taco Tuesday and it did not disappoint! The gringo taco was one of the best tacos I've ever had; very simple but made fresh and the shell was crispy and homemade. The lobster soup is definitely worth it - extremely flavorful and comes out hot! Mimosas were wonderful as well as the margaritas (but the flavored ones are very sweet). Definitely not overpriced, you're getting great quality for a good price. The service was also some of the best around. Very helpful and friendly (and moved the heat lamp for us)! The food here is mediocre. We ordered the carne asada tacos with rice and beans and carne asada fries. The tacos were okay and the rice and beans were just gross. The rice has peas in it, if that tells you anything and it was dried out. The beans were covered in cheese, like I really was going to ask them if I could have beans with my cheese. The carne asada fries were actually good and the best thing we ordered and the house Margarita was pretty good. This place doesn't have servers so you have to go to the counter to order your food and then they bring your food to your table. I wouldn't come here again, because I can go to a taco truck for better quality food and cheaper. Don't waste your time. read more

This place was a decent place to grab some lunch. The food was pretty good albeit expensive for a "taco joint". This is not a fancy restaurant, rather a place to grab a quick bite, but you are paying nice restaurant prices. My bill for me and two children was 41.00. Parking is on street and you have to pay for it. Service was quick but aloof. I could barely get a smile out of anyone working there and they were not busy at all. Queso was delicious. The sauces they had on their salsa bar were really good. My son loved his carne asada fries. Let me start by saying... BEST authentic tacos I've had in a long time. My mom and I were on a hunt for some good tacos and I came across Willie's! This place is a nice outdoor restaurant with lots of bar and regular seating. You order at the counter and then take a seat and wait for your food to be brought to you. Don't judge me but I came to this restaurant 3 times in 5 days. That's how good it is. After briefly glancing at the menu, I decided on carne asada tacos, and couldn't have made a better choice. The meat is tender, juicy and flavorful...what more could you ask for? One thing I'm curious about is why this place isn't more crowded. I've gone on Friday and Saturday nights, and the restaurant still only has about 5-6 people max. Not complaining, but people are missing out! Come to Willie's! A downtown casual Mexican food restaurant. You place an order at the counter as soon as you walk in. They give you a number to place on your table and will run your food to you once ready. I definitely could give them five stars alone on the level of service. They even came by to ask us if they could clear/bus our table. The restaurant is very casual, I'd consider it mostly outside seating. They have some pretty cool murals on the walls, which fit with the whole laid back 'taco joint' theme of the place. I ordered the carne asada fries. In my opinion, I've had better, but these weren't terrible either. For a soda fountain drink and fries, I paid $15. Really steep for what I ordered. I can honestly say that these are some of the best tacos I've ever had. I had the Maui Wowie, which in my opinion is a perfect fish taco. Flavorful, perfectly balanced, and the tortillas are sublime. In fact, all of the tortillas (they were different for each taco) were some of the best I've ever tasted, and I lived in Central America for a year. We also tried the Sloppy José, the shrimp taco, and the pork belly (I don't remember what they were called), and we were not disappointed even a little bit. Also, ask about the lobster chowder. It's so good! We were there on a Tuesday afternoon, so it was pretty chill. We were able to sit at the bar and shoot the sh*t with the staff, and we just had a fantastic time. So this is the best place to go to for like a little down home type of food. Like true Mexican food and decor to match. They had a deal of margaritas for $3.19 so why not stop in!?!?! I ordered a chicken chimmy and it was so big and filling. The portions are out of this world! The margaritas were a little watered down especially the house margaritas. I also got one with a Corona stuck in it but it was more beer than anything else. I would go back for a bite if I'm just hungry. read more

My wife and I had lunch here today. The ambiance was pretty cool. We're not from the area so the open atmosphere was really nice. The music was a little... bro-ie, but I think that may also be because it's so near the stadium. Seating was decent. There was enough room for groups of 2 and I even saw a group of 6 enjoying lunch comfortably. There's a salsa bar where you can grab your own little salsa cups. I tried the Pico and the mango habanero. The Pico was great. Super fresh and tasty. The mango habanero was super sweet. I love mangos but it was a bit much for me. I got the pork belly minus arugula, 2 traditional carnitas, and the Baja fish. My wife got 2 Gringos and 2 Maui Wowie's. The Baja was alright. Tasted a little like frozen fish and salad mix from a bag, but it was ok. The pork belly was great. A little in the sweet side, but I didn't hate it. The carnitas were delicious. Simple and good. I also really liked the tortillas. They tasted fresh. My wife said she enjoyed hers as well. It was a bit on the pricy side. $38 for 8 tacos and glasses of water. It was a chill spot to go to. Had the Del Mar burrto and can't complain. Steak was tender and the shrimp was good. I enjoyed the bar with open windows in the back ground, so I had the street feel of it. In the middle of the stadiums and the convention center. If you haven't tried Willie's Taco Joint yet -you are truly missing out! They were our food truck of choice at our Conception Art Show in Phoenix - at the Unexpected Venue on October 20th. They were definitely a HUGE hit at the show! We - Conception - provided an appetizer hour for our guests utilizing their amazing food - and people were coming back to get 10 to 20 tacos at a time once they tried the samplers! Gotta love it. The staff of Willie's are incredibly friendly, so accommodating and easy to work with that I would recommend them for any catering event that you may have. Plus you can always check out their restaurant too if you just want to stop by and have fabulous food! They aren't Award Winners for nothing! Check them out - you'll be happy you did. Willie's is one of my favorite spots downtown, and my first go-to after (or before) a concert or baseball game. They're open late, serve yummy tacos (love the pastor and carnitas), and have strong drinks at good prices - increasingly a rarity downtown. It's always packed with a fun diverse crowd after events also. Service is usually spot-on, even when they are super busy. Stopped in there last night before the Clapton concert. It's right next to the arena, so very convenient. There were several others ahead of us but the staff cranked it - we were seated and had food/drinks in less than 20 minutes. I got the Maui Wowie tacos and my friend got the Carne Asada tacos. We each had a margarita too. Prices are very reasonable too. I think the margs were $4 each and tacos about the same.
