We wanted to grab a quick bite to eat before a Diamondbacks game and of course Willie's is right next door. This is always a happening place so we took a chance on it. This is a walk up and order kind of place with a small menu serving tacos and burritos. Our friends are currently on the Carnivore diet so they just had carne asada that came with chips (which they gave to us). My husband had the carnitas burrito and it was huge! He said it had a good flavor and was full of meat. I ordered two tacos- one "loco syoko" (potato) and the other pollo asado (chicken). The veggie taco was sadly very bland tasting. I'm glad I ate that one first because the chicken was Delicious. We went to the self serve salsa area to complement our chips but both left a lot to be desired in flavor- they were just spicy. BUT- let me tell you about the cocktail! Okay it was $12 at a walk up served in a disposable cup but this "Sweet Pina" drink was delicious! Made with coconut tequila, coconut purée, and pineapple juice! Gluten free dairy light eater. We ordered chicken tacos on the urban wine walk. The rice was over cooked. Beans were flavorless. And tacos were large chunks of chicken with no flavor. It wasn't bad. Nothing to turn us off except lack of flavor. Their best salsa was the pico de gallo. The mango salsa was too sweet and the kick was pretty minimal from the habanero. We could have asked for no cheese on the beans. It wasn't too much though for my light dairy eating. The atmosphere was great for a sports focused fan. Right next to Chase stadium. A very casual vibe. Indoors bleed outdoor. I won't add this to a regular rotation for me, but I won't turn it down if on my way to Chase stadium. read more

I could get a chicken quesadilla and chips and guacamole for under $20. Today I thought "hey I haven't been to Willy's in a while" so I stopped in. I ordered a margarita, which was served in a small plastic cup and tasted more like sugar than liquor, at a whopping $14! No. That is just taking advantage. This place is conveniently located near the light rail station in between the Talking Stick Resort Arena and Chase Field. It's definitely a busy spot when events are happening downtown. Not a ton of seating and is more enjoyable when it's not too hot outside since it's an open air dining area. During this visit, I tried the lunch special which included 2 cheese enchiladas, rice and beans, plus a drink. The enchiladas were ok and the rice seemed like it had been sitting out for a while since it was dry. I do enjoy how they have a self serve salsa bar where the salsa is individually in little containers. The atmosphere is nice and the employees are friendly. I have NEVER been treated with so much respect as a customer at a restaurant, ESPECIALLY when the restaurant is right next to an arena that is about to have 1000's of people attending a concert, all looking for a quick bite, in an unusually cold rain! The staff was patient, under control, helpful, and efficient. Customers were treated as individuals and had their individual needs met. For example, with my order, my credit card wasn't going through, and the server took the time to both ask another staff member for help with the device we were using and also looked for another one to use. I wasn't made to feel rushed or silly and was even offered a receipt when I declined one "in case the first and the second charge both went through and you have to dispute it." I thanked him for that kindness, and he said, "This is a great place to work. We want you to have a good experience." In the dining area, the walls were heavy plastic tarps, and the wind was whipping around the crevices, making the area a bit chilly & damp. In spite of this, or because of it, a staff member was roaming around that area, periodically explaining to customers how to use their back door to get to the arena under cover!
