This location of Williams-Sonoma was just a block away from the Fordham University campus, and lured many of us cash-strapped students into believing we could attain a certain level of aspirational domesticity. I still vividly remember taking a coffee tasting class at this location, feeling like I had attained the peak of cultured adulthood. Revisiting the place years later, it feels a bit frozen in time. A millenial-core haven selling Star Wars pancake molds and dishware with cheeky phrases that seemed so cutting-edge back when we were 20-somethings. Their products are absolutely still fancy, but have not really updated with the times. There's something comforting about their refusal to shift to selling to a younger demographic. Where else can I find a pseudo-ironic cocktail shaker with an idiom about needing a drink? It's still the perfect place to find a housewarming gift since all my friends fall squarely into this same demographic. I did indeed come in looking for a housewarming gift, and sure enough I landed on a tequila-making set that ticked off all the right boxes. Breezing through the aisles took me back to being 22-again. Kept the main item, returned a tiny $17.95 tea infuser -- and was slapped with a $12.01 return fee on top of the $7 I already paid for shipping. My refund? Only $7.54. This means I paid more in fees than the value of the item returned. Outrageous. Most reputable retailers offer free returns or minimal costs for small, lightweight items -- Williams-Sonoma instead chooses to punish customers for returning anything. This policy is anti-customer, anti-loyalty, and completely out of touch with modern retail standards. Original delivery date promised was long before the wedding. Today, I got an email that the gift would be delivered three weeks after the wedding. Their delivery deadlines are a complete fabrication. Every time I go to the Shops at Columbus Circle I have to stop in to this location of Williams Sonoma. If there's a cooking class going on I like to watch. I frequently get a sample to taste at the class. Sometimes they have free samples at the register when you check out. That was before the pandemic. At this location I tend to buy food items and kitchen supplies. Mostly small things I can carry home. They have a great appliance section. I like the dish towels and aprons. There's so many beautiful things I feel like I'm in cooks heaven. I may not cook but the boxed food is great. I like to purchase the pancake mix for my daughter. I was the perfect customer. I came in, was polite, knew EXACTLY what I want...and by that, I mean I marched to the shelf and decided immediately. All an associate had to do was call for it in stock upstairs, and then I had it, was directed to the cashier, and checked out. I even donated a couple bucks to whatever charity they were plugging at the register. I asked for my item gift wrapped, and the cashier told me it would be a few minutes since it was a large item. No big deal. Then, the waiting began. A lot of waiting. So much waiting, in fact, that it's now 11 minutes since I paid, and I've had time to write this review, and my package is STILL sitting beside the cashier. And nobody is acknowledging it. Large items take a few minutes to wrap, sure. Large items do not take 15 minutes to carry to the back. I could have walked to another store, bought wrapping paper and a ribbon, and done it myself by now. My experience could not have been worse. I'll take my business elsewhere next time Update: someone finally came out to wrap my item, and said "do you just want paper and a bow?" And I said "umm sure, as opposed to what?" And she rudely said "as opposed to taking everything out of the box". No obviously I don't want you to do that, are you effing kidding? read more

I shop at this location frequently as it is close to my job. While I have always liked the Columbus Circle location and find the employees to always be kind and helpful, this Saturday one employee really went above and beyond to help me! I was looking for Nordic Ware geometric cookies stamps but the website said that they were out of stock. I went in anyway with the hope that I could find some other Christmassy stamps instead. The store on Saturday was PACKED! I've never seen it this busy and all the employees were helping multiple people. I found some cookie stamps but all of them were either spring floral or Star Wars - no Christmas or generic cookie stamps to be found. James, an employee at WS, saw me looking around and asked if he could help me find something. I asked if they sold any Christmas stamps or geometric stamps. He called me over to his computer and pulled up a set of stamps he thought I would like and, low and behold, they were the Nordic Ware geometric stamps I had wanted but thought they didn't have! He said the system was showing that they should have a few so he called another staff member to look for them in the back. He also looked at other locations in the city to see if anyone else had them in stock and informed me about what my shipping options were and how quick they would get to me if he couldn't find them in the city. After that he told me to browse in the store while he tried to track down the stamps. Shortly, he came and found me and he had tracked down the stamps! James truly went above and beyond to help me find what I was looking for. I have worked retail, I know what the Christmas rush feels like and I would have completely understood if he had just said "sorry, if they aren't there then we are sold out." That he took his time to track them down really meant a lot - especially since I wanted them to finish making cookies for a gift and needed to be done by the next day. I highly recommend checking out this WS location. The store is gorgeous (if you haven't seen the gingerbread city scape yet - GO!), the employees are knowledgeable, and above all they are helpful. Just understand that the store may not flow as quickly as you would like because it is a really high traffic shopping center. After having them delivered I had to go to the store to get a full set of 6 glasses. It would have taken weeks through the mail to get a replacement. They were not allowed to give me a refund for shipping in the store. I had to call online to ask for a refund for shipping. They charge $9 shipping and they won't refund the shipping even on damaged orders. I spent one hour on the phone with a manager just to get a $2.50 store credit instead of a $9 refund. Mike was a great instructor and was able to handle so many people - I'm not sure if all of them signed up or drop-ins. Regardless, the entire class was very informative and it helped a bit for me in determining which $$$ knife to get - the Chef's or the Sandoku. The rep from EdgeWare was also cool enough to provide free knife sharping. Great classes, beautiful store, awesome service. read more

I came here at about 10:30 in the morning on a Friday. I like some of their 'gourmet' food items. Like Jacobsen Salt Company items, novelty sprinkles, and some other things. I was looking for items that I found online that were 'pickup in store only' items. They are on sale online, but not on sale in the store, which was annoying. I also like seeing what food they have in their clearance section. Unfortunately, it was pretty sparse this time around. It's always a beautiful store with great displays and decoration. Do not buy furniture here under any circumstances! We ordered two chairs in early April with an estimated delivery date of late July-early August; they charged us nearly $4,000 (including $250 for "white glove delivery"). By October we had heard nothing and when contacted, they provided a litany of mindless excuses...and we're still waiting. This is a high end store. Its not cheap and has amazing things. I came here to buy a gift (a surprise birthday) gift. Now my girlfriend and i shop here and have spent money many times here. So i WAS a fan of it . I got to the counter and in an order to go quickly (store was not busy at all) she took my card swiped it and i signed the doc but the next screen had my girlfriends email. I said "wait!" But she pressed the button so the receipt flew out of the computer - boom surprise done- now my girlfriend knows what i got her- this is bad. But why the single star???? Its because of what happened AFTER. She said "sorry, but I'm sure she wont look at her email if she is like me..." ?!?!?!?! What? I asked if there was anything they could do? She asked another worker and she said no. I asked for the items to be gift wrapped and stood fuming, clearly angry. And they did nothing - no deeper discount- no lets give you 10% off your next purchase - NOTHING. THAT is why its one star. Did she see her email? Yes she texted me because she saw a receipt and was worried about fraud. If you make a mistake in any business the goal is to make it right. The worry is that by not checking emails and just clicking buttons the carelessness of the check out is infuriating. What if it was a stolen cc? Just clicking away at buttons to make checkout go quicker? How about having a customer standing there so angry cause they were pushing buttons that I'm suppose to confirm. NOT the sales rep. And most of all i told her it was for a birthday. Someones birthday and they did nothing. Even just brining the manager out for an apology would have been nice. So... One star. Ah Williams-Sonoma! The very mention of the name evokes a clean, crisp, elegant store with tons of stuff I wish I owned! I primarily visit a branch in New Jersey that is average sized, so to walk into this giant sized version is quite the treat for a foodie who enjoys cooking. Elegant wood counters and shelves? Check. A wide selection of sauces, spices etc. Check. A wide assortment of gadgets? Check. Awesome looking cookware? Check. Super friendly staff? Check. Neato free samples of food? Check. This place had it all. I was greeted twice by two different greeters near the doors and I was asked many times if I needed help (I was just browsing). Make no mistake, you don't go to Williams-Sonoma for a bargain. You go to browse, ogle and if you're like me, look for culinary gadgets you may not see elsewhere. I have purchased items here before, but they tend to lean towards stuff like salt/pepper grinders and the like. I always enjoy my time here and I must confess if I was a much richer man I'd be buying even more stuff here (and more often). A notable feature of this particular branch is its second floor, which is devoted to items like bed sheets and furniture. The stuff is quite elegant, but as other Yelpers have noted, it's not cheap! This particular will have fond memories for me as well as being the branch I got to meet Giada De Laurentiis during a book signing. This shop is conveniently located near by to my apartment, so I have been there often. WS as a brand is incredible and their products loved by so many of us! But the reason for my two stars has to be the consistency in awful service. The associates at this store would rather make you wait ages before attended to you and be busy chatting. Like today for instance, heat wave in NYC so not many people out and about. I go into the store to get a gift card and a tin of Fortnum and Mason cookies. I said I was in hurry and she could tell from my card out to quickly pay and hurry out. There was no one else behind me in the line for the register and if someone might have come, there where others who could tend to them. The lady at the register- tells me it will take 15 min for her to wrap my gift - a tin of cookies and insert the gift card. She says I should go walk around and come back in 15min. Mmmmmm No! If WS offers a wrapping service - please train your employees to wrap efficiently. Damn, 1/4 hr wage rate to wrap one small tin of cookies. I guess it's what they probably say to people they don't want to do it for. Annoying to say the least. read more

I wanted to buy a ladle as a gift for a friend and decided getting one from Williams-Sonoma would add some legitimacy to the purchase. This particular store on the street level of the Columbus Circle shopping center came to the rescue. I asked a woman working the entrance where the ladles were, and she pointed them out to me. The kitchen tools selection is quite massive, and I picked out the least $$$ ladle. There was a display of spiralizers right in the tools section, so I played with one for a minute. I want one! How fun is it to make noodles out of veggies??? I could find myself browsing the store for a while and subsequently buying things but luckily I was crunched for time so I didn't and saved some more money as a result. Anyway, checkout was fine though there was one cashier so I had to wait a little bit. All in all, I got what I wanted pretty swiftly, and my friend was happy, so hooray. read more

I was happy to shop here as they closed the Hawaii location that was at the Ala Moana mall. Had a few things to purchase and an employee waived me to the register. He then proceeded to help another employee who had some kind of issue. Then another male employee helped me. I requested another bag as the one he gave me was broken. The place is really clean I registered with Williams Sonoma . My wedding guests spent thousands of dollars on vitamix, slow cookers etc I just had the rudest experience with a clerk. She's old , frumpy, white and wears glasses She literally treated me like a child and a second class citizen because I bought 3 clearance red glasses . I asked that one be shipped to my aunt. She was so shaming and frustrated and annoyed and rude. I'm not one to complain about retail workers. When I was in high school and college , I worked retail. It can suck sometimes. And if she was having a bad day--fine . But she was literally treating me different . I'm 40 (and because of good genes, I look 25) and I have dyed blond hair (I'm part Asian).... I am so offended and appalled I stopped in the store, on my way to a coffee date with a friend in the Mandarin. Anytime i said anything, she interrupted me. I started telling the story about the red goblet (it's a reference to a Katherine Hepburn film, Summertime.; and I mentioned that I was registered there in 2012.) She is the cliche Williams Sonoma employee. Like, come on, you work retail at a Williams Sonoma. It's like she was a house wife for 30 years, depressed and then got a job at Williams Sonoma . So unhappy. I would feel bad for her but she just ooZes white privilege. I get it, it's annoying to help a customer who is spending $22 . And then asked to ship something. She just took the glass. Put the receipt in the glass and the gift card. She said that she was putting it in the back and then they would gift wrap it and send it. I attached the receipt. I wish I knew her name Thinking about this instance makes me realize That this is partially my fault I should have stopped. Asked for another employee that was friendlier so I didn't have to write this. Next time, I'll try to remind myself that if I don't like a cashier/retail worker , I'll ask for a different employee... I was sold 5 four piece Le Creuset dinner servings, each in a different color. One piece (the orange soup/cereal bowl) was missing from one of the settings. I was informed that it would be in soon. Subsequent and time-consuming inquiries found that despite this being a supposedly stocked item, that they would require me to special order a minimum of 4 more soup bowls since it was just after Christmas and they were quite happy being out of stock of the piece. I paid full price for these expensive dishes (and actually could have gotten them at the Macy's after Christmas sale for 20 percent off). I went online and readily Googled stores selling individual bowls in the color I needed with first-time customer discounts etc. Stay away from this shop. They had queen size sheets "on sale" for $415! Now before you tell me that it is expensive because of the "high quality", that is not true. I have top quality sheets on my bed and they were more than half off the W-S price. Yes they have very nice items, and if I hit it big would probably buy a few items here, but seriously who can afford this shit in these tough times. I can say with certainty that Williams Sonoma is now responsible for the worst customer service experience I've ever had with a retailer and that the company's gift exchange policy is outdated to the point of being ludicrous and it appears to purposely designed to thwart my efforts to spend my money as I choose. Allow me to explain. On Dec. 27, 2021, I returned a gift I had received for Christmas at the Williams Sonoma at Columbus Circle in New York City. It had been ordered online and then picked up there several days before. Upon making the return, I was told that the only means for issuing a refund was to have a merchandise card sent to via me the U.S. Postal Service and that one would arrive in my mailbox within 14 business days, which would have been approximately Jan. 14, 2022. This struck me as exceedingly unusual given that Williams Sonoma sells digital gift cards and given how much business the company surely does online, perhaps more than in its physical stores. The gift had been ordered online, so why could the credit not simply be applied digitally so that I could buy the item I wanted online instead? After 14 business days, the card had not arrived. I contacted customer service and was assured by the person who answered that Williams Sonoma "understood my frustration." Nonetheless, I was not offered a refund or online credit. My only option was to have the card canceled, reissued and remailed. As that would have required potentially waiting for the new card an additional 14 business days, I chose not to do that. At that point, I wrote to the company's customer service email address and expressed my frustration, noting that the merchandise had been returned and probably sold again. A short time later, I received an email from a customer service representative who said the card had been shipped to me on Dec. 29. She advised that Williams Sonoma was "unable to send the gift card digitally." She did not explain why and simply repeated what I had been told over the phone. She said I should "feel free to contact us with any other questions." Later the same day, after I had registered my concerns with customer service again via email, I received a second email from customer service. This one only added to my confusion and frustration and made me question Williams Sonoma's honesty. This person said the company's systems showed that the card had been "invoiced" on Dec. 30 and therefore would not have gone out until Jan. 3, 2022, since that was the next business day according to this person's calculations. Why had I previously been told the card went out on Dec. 29? That was not explained. This person gave me a new arrival date of Jan. 21, said that no tracking information was available because the card was being shipped via USPS and repeated that if the card had not arrived by then that it could be voided and reissued "to ensure you received it." Based on my experience to this point, I'm not confident that would "ensure" anything. This person closed his note by apologizing and saying, "I understand this is a bigger hassle than you originally anticipated."  He was right. This process is obviously a hassle, but I could not have anticipated how big it would be. I replied to this person by recounting my growing frustration and noting the conflicting timelines. The response I received to that email was an incoherent attempt to explain the meaning of the term "invoiced," which was beyond beside the point. The bottom line is that nearly three weeks after returning in good faith an item that was purchased as a gift I still have not received my credit and have no good reason to believe I will anytime soon. Williams Sonoma should not make it impossible for their customers to make exchanges. In addition to not buying anything for myself in the future, I am absolutely certain I will not be doing any gift shopping at Williams Sonoma. I would not want to put anyone I care about through a similar experience. read more
