Despite years of coming into The Container Store to see what they had as a solution for something I need, I've only once bought something there which ended up not being that special. Trust me, I do stop in several times a year, but always walk out opting for something at Target, Ikea, Home Depot, or formerly the Bed, Bath, and Beyond across the street. The prices here always seem just a little too high for whatever they have. I've known over the years, people who like shopping there for home organizing things, but perhaps I'm not their target demo. This time I see they have a big selection of those gaudy, metallic Hulken rolling totes.. which signage informing you it's what New Yorkers schlep with. (The Hulken really looks like something meal delivery people use.) Well, I'm happy with my Gorilla Cart and I'm a New Yorker. The impulse items by the register didn't move me as well. I love The Container Store and I will always go there for quickly purchasing items for my home, for storage, kitchen, bathroom and many other things. The reason I'm writing this review is because I had a bad experience with the elpha Closet system. I've had my elpha Closet for years, it was very expensive, and it infuriates me. I'm not sure if it's elpha or the container store who is at fault about this problem that is no fault of mine. There's a size issue here which may sound laughable to some people. If you are 5 feet tall do not buy an elpha Closet system or make 100% sure that the person who's helping you get it listens to you when you tell them you are 5 feet in height. I love being a petite person and I find things that work for me all the time. I celebrate my size in everything I do! Never in my life did I ever think I would have to use a stepladder to use my closet. I spent over $1000 right before the pandemic broke out, hustling and rushing to get the job complete in my little Greenwich Village flat, making calls to find someone to install it, and it's taking me this many years to finally report about this and express my anger and humiliation. I couldn't take it today and had to write. I cannot reach my coats. I cannot reach my skirts, my dresses, my shirts. I am not a dwarf, and I feel like a dwarf in my closet. The hooks are on the wrong side of the drawer shelving unit. The shelves above the pole where I hang my clothes are so high up to the ceiling that I have to climb on top of the dresser in a precarious way to do anything with the shelves. It is dangerous to use this system for me and it is extremely time-consuming. I wish I had never bought this closet system, and I wish that the person who sold it to me would have listened to me when I told her over and over again I am 5 feet tall. She just stood there staring at me and finally said it would work fine. I never should've listened to her. I needed a good closet before the pandemic took over our lives for years. I'm not usually want to have regrets, however, I wish I had spent the money on a much better system. Terrible customer service. read more

Our experience started out very well but soon went down hill. We picked out our fabric but the sample was a different color than the sofa on display, we were assured by everyone that the display color was the color we were buying. When we were called that our sofa was in we went down to make sure it was the correct color but management would not let us see the sofa which was at their location. We now have our sofa but it's not the same color as the display model. The color does match our colors so we kept it. So why didn't we refuse you ask, because they will not give your money back, only a credit ! Also, if you are confident that you have the right color of your purchase, you have to go into the store to finish paying because they say that record their phone calls, so you can't pay over the phone ! We live an hour away ! Think about this, I bought a car online and only had to go to the dealer to pick it up! read more

Was so hopeful, thoroughly disappointed. I spent close to $500+ in my first month with container store. Regret it due to how poorly run they are. First red flag was that one of the shelves I ordered came with a missing foot. Contacted customer support. They told me to order replacement off of Amazon. Horrendous. Second red flag was that I had a return. I live in NY so the store looks close, but in actuality not feasible at all for me to go visit in less than 2 hours. No pre-paid return labels? In the Amazon decade? Genuinely pathetic. They expect me to pay - of course containers are the most awkwardly shaped expensive to ship. Stay away from this nightmare of a company. read more

One of my items was back ordered until March and I was happy to get an email that the order was ready. I looked around for store pick up signs and was waved over to a register. The young guy behind the register cheerfully asked for my pick up email and guided me towards a few clicks. He then brought out my cellophane wrapped stash of stuff for organizing my home. These guys are great. We moved to a new place recently and thus had to work with a bunch of contractors/installation/delivery companies for various home improvement projects, and I've had so many nightmare situations with delays, damages, etc. I had some custom designed shelving solution from the container store delivered to me and installed. Both delivery and installation came right on time. They emailed me instructions on how to get a COI for both, and BOTH the delivery and installation companies got the COI to me within 1-2 days with all the additional insured and requirements by my building correct (I've done back and force with 3 versions with other vendors before). This might literally be one of the smoothest experiences I've had. read more

I'm surprised I hadn't written a review for this store previously. I've been shopping here for many years. Even before Covid though, when many businesses were closing in NYC, this remained like an old friend. Although the "foot traffic" inside has been dramatically reduced since the store first opened, it still offers an excellent array of items. From closet organization tools, to every kitchen and bathroom gadget you could desire. The office supply area is fun, and they have a small section for sport memorabilia. The adjust register staff quickly if there is a line, and they always have me out the door in 5 mins or so. Free delivery in Manhattan. They have lots of cool stuff but also lots of EXPENSIVE STUFF. If you don't mind price you can have the interior of your closet built by them and probably organize everything in your house beautifully! We bought a case of 6 shoe holders. We used them in the coat closet and it holds our shoes great! The downside was a price tag of a little over 100 dollars for 12 shoe containers, and having to carry bulky boxes on the train. Sign up for the POP REWARDS program online before going there and you'll automatically get a 15% coupon. Not only that but a lot of the times when you checkout the machine will print another coupon for you next use during certain dates. read more

They should really consider changing their name to "Random Shit You Unexpectedly Need" because I never knew how much I needed a coat hanger in the shape of a moose's head until I saw it. How did I ever live without it? The store's right across of Chase, so after you deposit your paycheck you can go ahead and treat yourself to that tiny liquid squeeze bottle smaller than the size of your fist that you've always wanted. I like the container store because they're about functionality without looking like a peasant. When ladies come over to my apartment, I like to at least have the illusion that I can throw money away on shit like gold plated hamburgers (it's a thing, look it up). And the best part is it's affordable. Not the cheapest but if you want cheap, I know a nifty place called Target. I'm trying to get laid on a budget here. Also, they surprisingly have a great selection on wrapping paper (that's dirt cheap after Christmas FYI). I think my ex-girlfriend was more impressed by the paper than the actual gift. I absolutely LOVE The Container Store!!!!!! My entire Pro Makeup Closet is suited by The Container Store. I chose 8 double acrylic shelves on all 3 walls of the closet. I bought 6 plastic rainbow drawer containers. This helps with my makeup organizing to color code the drawers so I know where everything is. The drawers even fit a lot of my bottles of liquid product up to 16oz bottles. I'm loving how the closet appears. I put up battery operated switch lights on all of the closet frame walls. Which was a great move because when I turn on those lights the light bounces off all the glitter and rhinestone items in the closet giving it a stellar appearance. I have storage drawers in my laundry closet as well. Perfect fit in that awkward designed space. I even purchased The Laundress Products. One of my favorite private label laundry brands. Keeping everything neat and clean is easy and a way of life for me. I'm thankful for The Container Store. I also got excellent delivery and in-store services. Really wonderful store, l've been coming here ever since it opened in the early 2000's staff has always been helpful and gone out of their way to help me, on the rare occasions l have had to return things it's been easy and hassle free, most recently I bought a garment rack that was a floor sample, me and the salesperson had to look up the instructions on line to figure out how to dismantle this complex rack and then bring it to the register and wrap it as it didn't have a box, amidst all this l left my phone on the floor and had to return to the store the next day to pick it up, it was kept in the store safe!
