I had the beef tartare, which was delicious. However, I was dining alone and made a reservation, and i was very disappointed that they seated me at possibly the worst table in the restaurant, shoved in the corner and looking at nothing. That totally ruined everything! Furthermore, the wall to my left was a wall of slats - on the other side of the slats was the host stand. So for the entire time I sat at this table, I had to listen to the hosts chat with each other and watch them through the slats, as if they were standing over my dinner. No-one should be seated in this spot - but if anything, this table should be saved for someone who at least has company, not someone who is dining alone and is going to dinner to people watch and to enjoy the sights and ambiance of a restaurant. I ended up asking to move to the bar, which was better, but my impression of this restaurant was unfortunately tainted by this experience. I feel a newfound desire to be an activist for getting rid of this terrible seating place at wildweed! No one should be stuck at this disappointing table. read more

Walked in to this restaurant on a Tuesday evening in November at 6:30 and was told there were no tables available for the night.  So I went online to look for the next reservation for when I'd be in town, and I had to book something for 3 people a month out.  Finally got to go eat there last night, since I was anticipating this night for a month now, expectations were high.  The vibe inside is fun and trendy.  We were seated at table, and our waitress immediately came over with water and our menus.  Went with a glass of wine which was very good.  As an apitizer we got the squash snack and the bread with dips.  Everything was really good, my friend was really blown away by the squash apitizer (I thought it was good, but wasn't necessarily blown away).  For my main dish I got the trout which I really enjoyed, probably more than the apitizer but still not blown away really.  Solid 4 star experience. read more

Thrilled I finally got to try Wildweed! Every course was delicious, but my favorite was the black garlic and quark ravioli. Definitely recommend ordering several things and sharing so you can taste as much as possible! The pasta is so good, but I wasn't disappointed with anything I tried and can't wait to come back and try more. This place is phenomenal. Started off with the oysters, which were extremely well seasoned & tasted very fresh. But I didn't like how they put ice on top of the oyster itself. The chicken tortellini with shrimp was amazing. the sauce was delicious & the flavors were great. For dessert we got the icecream sandwich but it was just ok. it wasn't too sweet but im just not a fan of ice cream sandwiches. Overall the ambiance was nice & they were willing to seat us 30 mins before closing time. The service was amazing! read more

WILDWEED is a very unusual restaurant. We went there because of the many accolades it has received for its food. We expected a typical "fine dining" atmosphere but instead it's extremely casual and low key. Some of the items on the menu need an explanation from the server to describe what the dish contains. The appearance of each dish is unusual. Their high marks for their food is based on the elaborate efforts necessary to prepare some dishes. Our server was very pleasant and down to earth. read more

had pretty high expectations based on what i'd heard and really i think it lived up to the hype. the best thing i had all night was the honey nut squash ravioli. it was the perfect bite i swear to god, had every flavor working so well together. i did think that the striped chicken tortelli was pretty overrated if im being honest, that dish was pretty average in my opinion. drinks + dessert were both excellent, loved the ice cream and the almond cake. overall great vibe inside too, feels pretty intimate & the staff was very friendly and gave great recs! read more

This place is a foodie paradise. Right from the start, the hostess made us feel welcomed, and all the staff were so kind and friendly. I have never had anything like the flavors that were presented. The flavors were delicate and ambitious- we had to sample each other's drinks and meals just to be able to taste the most unique and wonderful flavors. From drinks, appetizers, main courses and desserts- they hit it out of the park. So happy my husband found this amazing place. Can't wait to come back and sample more of their delicious creations. We were lucky to celebrate Valentine's Day at Wildweed. After we got the reservation, it was named one of the top new restaurants in the country by Esquire Magazine and I was so excited to try it. The food is interesting, local and even foraged. The portions are ample: we shared a salad we loved and if we both ordered one, it would have been too much. The bubbly and NA beer were tasty accompaniments to our dinner. My vegetarian ricotta kale anolini was scrumptious and beautiful. My husband had the lasagna, presented upright. His only complaint was that the outer layer was dry and overcooked while the inner parts were fine; the server said that just happens sometimes. Unfortunately for me, my husband is reluctant to return on account of that, which means we'll not be able to try the chef's table together! read more

The restaurant presented a carefully curated menu of housemade food including the fresh breads and desserts. Totally farm to table. The high-quality food was only matched by the high-quality service. First impression, we checked in and the hostess was already asking when we would be leaving. Insisting that we tell her the exact time so that she could turn the table. Not real welcoming. One of the people in our party was considering their $98 steak, but we were told we didn't have time to order that and to come back another time. Ironically, service was slow all the way through our meal, until the end, when they needed us to leave by our previously discussed exit time. The food was good, although they should consider heating up the overpriced bread. I would come back for the pasta, but it's not worth the unwelcoming, snooty service. read more

The Kitchen Counter is always delicious and engaging. We went for the 8th time on Saturday night and again had great food with unusual ingredients or cooking techniques that made each dish a treat. We went early on the first week open and it filled quickly. Lots of buzz. The clams were the highlight of the dinner, really terrific. The squid ink pasta was excellent and curiously had a flavor of chili -- a flavor which I'm not accustomed to with this dish. The chicken was a bit tough, possibly growing pains but nonetheless. The food was absolutely delicious with unique flavors and pasta had a nice bite to it-perfectly al dente. The almond cake was a pleasant surprise-so unexpected, but so delicious. The space was cool and you can tell they really invested in the atmosphere. The food was inconsistent. Beet salad was yummy. Cherry tomato salad was a little strange. Basically halved tomatoes on an aioli. Lacked balance and completeness. For the pastas there was always one element that took it too far or didn't go. Like the sprouts on the heart ragu, just was an odd choice. If the service was better I'd potentially return to give it another try since their menu seems to rotate seasonally. Was so looking forward to this restaurant based on recommendations and reviews. This did not live up to the hype and the was not worth the price. Service was fair, food was good but not outstanding and the ambience was so so. We were celebrating 2 birthdays and when we asked whether they do anything special for birthday's, the waitress replied that they don't do anything for birthday's. A chocolate candy or a small champagne toast would have gone a long way to show some above average customer service. read more

It's good, but it's not great. Even if the hype had not been so intense for Wildweed, I still would have felt distinct pangs of disappointment. FOOD: There are a few stand-out items on the menu, such as: The herb butter and olive oil that accompany the bread service The oysters The clams The beeswax ice cream The halibut in tomato water is not good enough. Shockingly, the bass á la nage at the distinctly more humble Atwood Oyster House is a far superior example of a poisson en bouillon presentation. The malfadine with rabbit ragu is nowhere rich and savory enough. It's just not. The olives that are in the melange are fresh and interesting, but the rest is quite blah. It is also visually unappealing. WINE AND BAR: The champagne available by the glass is an excellent selection by the sommelier, but it is served in a banal and inappropriate white wine glass. This wine has a lovely and unique color, and a beautiful fine bead, but all of that is lost because of the choice of stemware. A $20 glass of champagne in the city of Cincinnati should be served in a high quality flute or at least in a coupe. The white wines by the glass and bottle are interesting and there are a few excellent choices. The red wine list, however, is distinctly disappointing. I'm glad I did not order the steak because there is no wine on the list that would have properly paired with the cut of beef offered. The bar ran out of tonic. This should never happen, period. Send someone to Kroger. The cocktails were underwhelming. Again, when I order a martini, I want it served in a proper martini glass. A Nick and Nora glass does not cut it. SERVICE: The service was not great. We had several items incorrectly served. Our opening round of drinks was partially served. We waited 12 minutes for a glass of wine to be brought to complete the round. I had to ask twice for one of my guest's order be brought. All guests at a table should receive their drinks at once as a matter of basic service. I found all servers on the team but one to be self-absorbed and a few of them obviously bored with their jobs. I'm comparing the service we received to what I generally experience at venues with similar price points such as the Opal Rooftop, Atwood, Boca, Sotto, The Davidson, etc. I've had far better service this month at more modest restaurants such as Sudova, Primavista, Baru, Prime Cincinnati, Pepp & Dolores, and the Lonely Pine to name just a handful. AMBIANCE: The room at Wildweed is beautiful, and has some fascinating and pleasing design elements such as: A custom, giant, clearly handmade room divider of a soft pale wood - perhaps of ash or beech. Perforated metal light fixtures painted a pale azure Simple but interesting sconces Integrated shelves that are works of art However, the lighting is too bright. It gives Wildweed a lunchcounter feel. Also, the surfaces are all very hard, so that the noise level is deafening. This is not like the noise level at, say, NYC's Balthazar, which is also loud and heady and busy. Balthazar has baffling and some strategically placed soft materials that pull the sound away from the diners, so that the roar is what it should be. Wildweed has no acoustical charm. This needs to be fixed read more

As crass as it sounds, I consider myself a serious foodie. Exploring food scenes is a major hobby of mine, whether it be locally; nearby in cities like Nashville or Chicago; further away in New Orleans, Los Angeles or New York; or even internationally in Paris and elsewhere. With that in mind, I do not say it lightly that I think Wildweed could be my favorite restaurant I've ever been to (though Mokko in Paris may be tied). This place is unbelievable. The chef, David, and his staff present a fantastic enthusiasm about their culinary creativity, combined with a warm, friendly, completely unpresuming atmosphere. Every single dish I've had here (between two visits) has been excellent, and about half of them are mind-blowing. Wildweed bills itself as a pasta restaurant, though it is unapologetically not Italian. Really, just this boldly original billing, which may confuse some portions of the public, is a brilliant sign of originality that should encourage everyone to try it. What may make it all the more impressive, is that I'm not a particularly big pasta fan. It's something I rarely order at nice restaurants. But dishes such as their deconstructed truffle lasagna (I'm not typically a truffle guy either!) will make anyone who loves food appreciate David's genious. I could go on about so many dishes here but part of the fun is in discovering it all oneself. I could not recommend Wildweed any higher. read more

I really wanted to like Wildweed, but the experience just didn't live up to the hype--or the prices. My dining partner ordered a French 75, which should be gin, champagne, and lemon juice. What arrived was an orange drink in a dirty wine glass. When she asked the waitress why it was orange, the drink was snatched from her hand without a word. The waitress returned a few minutes later to say they were running low on champagne, so they couldn't use real champagne in the drink--and if she didn't like it, she should just order something else. Which... makes no sense. We were willing to pay for the proper ingredients, and the drink was ordered specifically because it includes champagne. She ended up switching to an old-fashioned, which came out overly diluted and packed with ice--closer to what I'd expect from a dive bar than a restaurant with this kind of ambition. We ordered the bread, which arrived cold and a little stale. Edible, but underwhelming. The clams were decent--I'd order those again. One of the pastas was a Vietnamese-inspired tortellini with chicken and shrimp, which was interesting, but when it was dropped off at our table, someone announced it was "the most traditional thing you can get at Wild Weed." A strange comment, considering it's not traditional in any sense of the word. Service throughout the meal was chaotic. We were constantly interrupted mid-conversation by staff asking if the food was okay or reaching across us without saying a word to grab menus, glasses, or silverware. The tables are packed so tightly that staff bumped into us multiple times while serving the table next to us. It felt rushed and unpolished--especially for a spot that's been open nearly a year. One final note: the check includes a 4% "healthcare fee." I absolutely support restaurants providing benefits to staff, but it's odd to pass that cost directly onto diners rather than bake it into menu pricing. Overall, Wild Weed just didn't deliver. Between the awkward service, strange substitutions, and cramped atmosphere, it's not a place I'd return to--or recommend. There are so many better dining experiences in Cincinnati. read more

I'll start by saying the food and service were both very great. The pasta was excellent, but that was pretty much it for the menu, only five large plates which narrows things if you're not a fan of, for example, seafood. Portions were smallish however. The seating was extremely tight on the side we were on which I think more than anything set the negative tone for me; the woman next to us was a loud talker which made it worse. Drink prices seemed to be a little much for what it was, I'm not a wine person I'm not going to pay that much for a glass of wine, however their mixed drinks were good (get blue cheese stuffed olives please!). My wife loved it, but a bit of a disappointment for me on our anniversary. We may try again since she liked it, but I'd like to get a better seat/table. read more

We went there for my husband's birthday last weekend. The hostess was friendly but not without reminding us that it was a busy time of year and that they were expecting a big party and that our reservation was for an hour and 45 minutes. Okaayyyyy! She was going to remind our server about the birthday but neglected to tell him. Our server also reminded us of the time of year and that a large party would be at the restaurant that evening. Wow! What a nice welcome. Never in my years of dining was there ever such an introduction of rude proportions. We had made a reservation weeks in advance. We were not walk ins. The food was good, lukewarm pasta. Oysters were delicious. One of the servers suggested a good wine pairing. The pawpaw ice cream sandwich lacked the flavor of pawpaw. I am very familiar with the taste and the spicebush berry was the prevalent flavor. We were finished in under an hour. We hope that made Wildweed restaurant happy. We were not!! Having worked in a fine dining restaurant for 5 years, this was a true disappointment. We try to be supportive of this industry and new places, since it is so hard to be successful. Regretfully, we won't return. Too many other places that are happy to see you and don't treat you like an inconvenience. read more

The saving grace of our experience at Wildweed was the entrees. The service was absolutely terrible. It was a solid hour and a half waiting on food, and during that wait, our server pretty much ignored us. What could have been an opportunity to check in on us, keep us topped off on drinks, and keep us happy, was bumbled by the staff. Thankfully the entrees were absolutely fantastic. The rib eye was delicious, the pasta was inspired, and the duck dish was beyond compare to anything else I've had in Cincinnati besides maybe Nolia. It's a shame that the service was so terrible, because that alone may keep us from coming back for more. read more

The flavor profiles of all the dishes was amazing. The service was super attentive, yet unobtrusive. The atmosphere was upbeat. Two reasons why I did not rate it 5*. There was a single entree choice for a GF Pescetarian. This is more my issue than Wildweed's as this is a restrictive combination. The ahi tuna was slightly overcooked. I would have preferred rare or medium rare. I received medium to medium well instead. I was not asked how I wanted it prepared. I should have offered though. It was still a delicious dish with and incredible flavor profile as well. And the ice cream for dessert, wow! read more

It is good and a decent option for Cincinnati. However, the hype is highly exaggerated and should never be mentioned in the same sentence as "Michelin star" recognition, etc. First drink glass had a chip on it, server was dismissive at best, and the food was good, but nothing special. It is a cool alternative to the "same old, same old", but certainly be sure to go during daylight hours if possible or get dropped off directly at the door!
