Wow after frequenting Wild Tomato (weekly) over the last 5 years we feel that we were poorly treated in favor for a "regular customer" family. Tonight, Thursday night, at 6:30 pm we went to Wild Tomato for our usual meal. We were informed that there was a 30 minute wait for a table. So we decided to sit at the bar, however, only one seat was available. That was okay except one of the bar stools was occupied by an approximately ten year old boy fully suited with an iPhone and ear buds. My wife sat at the one available chair,.Eventually an extra space was squeezed in for myself on a bar stool. All the while the boy proceeded to belch and sing out loud while seated at the bar. His parents were oblivious to his behavior and were clearly in their own fantasy world. Eventually my wife insisted that we be sat at a table, a doing all on her own accord. When we later suggested to the manager that we thought it was inappropriate for a ten year old boy to be sitting bar side at this hour the manager simply dismissed us with, "they are regulars and are here all the time." While there are no laws against a child sitting at the bar in Montgomery County, reasonable common sense would suggest that the child, or at least the father should have stood up and offered a seat to my wife and myself. I am disappointed at both the stance of Wild Tomato for allowing the boy to be in the seat as well as the parents of this child for being as oblivious and inconsiderate as they were. Also, despite our displeasure the management made no efforts to appease the situation and offer any minimal compensation in return. Unfortunately wild Tomato was a favorite, but now it has quickly descended to the bottom of our list. We will not be returning and will not be recommending the restaurant under any circumstances read more

Every time I've been here they mess up my order. Today I ordered just a simple cheeseburger, medium rare. Not only did arrive with no cheese, the burger was far some medium rare. Way overcooked. read more

I'd give Wild Tomato a 5, but it drives me crazy that there's 2 big screen TVs in this small restaurant! OK--I concede to the 1 @ the bar (which is really in the restaurant, but...), but the other one? Right over tables where people are sitting? GET RID OF IT!!!! It's a restaurant/cafe--NOT a sports bar! Having said that, I live in the neighborhood and I'm delighted that such a good restaurant is now so nearby. I've been twice w/friends, and was pleased both times--more the first time when we both ordered their wonderful pizzas and split them. I'm still thinking about my delicious pizza--proscuitto w/mushrooms and look forward to returning soon with my husband. I think the pizza is better than 2 Amy's which my foodie son loves, but I find it over-rated. The crust, the pie itself, and the toppings? Heavenly. Good service, too! Few times will I need to venture out of the neighborhood now with all the great choices in food coming to cabin john, but one tops them all. Wild tomato is a great place to take the family, or a date, when looking for a small place with spectacular food for a comfortable price. This place will be here for years to come as its proven the best fish tacos on the block. read more

My first experience here was poor... the food didn't taste so fresh, artichoke dip was average and accompanying chips were greasy and stale. One salad came without dressing and service left something to be desired. A subsequent visit proved different, it was cozy seated near the bar, the specials of the day were absolutely delicious and the service was great too! read more

Gets a star for being there. We really needed a place to eat that is not below par. Limited menu, small space and high prices are the deductibles. The items we eat the few times we were there were well made. Nothing outstanding, but definitely edible. I will go back, but not often. read more

Buddy and I stopped in after kayaking. Inside was full, and when I was there before, it was just too crowded for comfort. You sit on top of the next person. We sat outside as it wasn't too hot. Hostess was a little confused and overwhelmed, really not friendly. Waiter was prompt to take order and bring drinks. Food took a long time. Cobb salad and wild tomato burger. $14 for a salad. It was ok, and enough. When the lady brought food I asked if they had anything to control mosquitoes. She told me no, because people knock over the containers. I'd been bitten a dozen times by the time food came. I am allergic to insect bites, and become very uncomfortable. If I get too many bites, I have had to go to the hospital. The mosquitoes ruined it for me and my friend. Unlikely I will go back. I'd have been happier had the lady made up a lie instead of sideways blaming the problem on other customers. Booo read more

The food is good but overpriced for what you get. The initially well-intentioned owners of this place seem to be taking us, the locals with all too few neighborhood options, for granted. We welcomed them to the neighborhood when they first showed up but apparently familiarity breeds contempt. With a menu that rarely if ever changes, this place is too crowded with too slow service, you can't even reliably get them to take a carry out order. If you can get in enjoy your dinner but if they are jammed don't waste your time and use the interminable wait time to truck over to one of downtown Bethesda's many, many other good options. read more

Locally-owned restaurant that cares about what it serves... and its welcoming staff will make it right. Wild Tomato's regular menu is not extensive - they could change it up more and step up their salads - but they have good signature dishes and nightly house-made specials: an excellent soup, entree and a creative pizza. The bar has a nice beers and drinks and the place has a down-to-earth neighborhood atmosphere. They also serve all afternoon and evening, which is a wonderful thing. read more

The location makes this restaurant so attractive for those of us who live in the neighborhood. It could be that their location is the thing that is actually hurting the experience. We had lunch there a few months ago on a week day and the service was so slow, we were there for 90 minutes to have two salads. Last week we called on a Sunday night at 7 pm to order take out. Fish Tacos and a mushroom pizza. We were told 30 minutes. When we arrived, we actually waited another 30 minutes for the food to be ready. 60 minutes? the customer ahead of us was so angry they demanded their money back, which management was happy to accommodate. Clearly the kitchen has trouble keeping up with the volume. That said, the food was good, not great. read more

It's a small place but the angus burger was delicious. It came out hot, juicy and dressed. Most of the time burgers come out just warm ... this was hot and delicious and cooked to "pink" just as I ordered it. Love the fact also that the burger was bigger than the bun so I wasn't just eating bread. Fries and pickle were good too. Friends had shrimp salad sandwich which looked good and Cobb Salad which had fried onions on top for crunch. That was my 2nd choice so I'll try that on my next visit. I work in a pizza place so definitely will be trying their pizza but it looked good from a distance. Staff was friendly and attentive too. At first we were very excited about this restaurant. Nice atmosphere, tasty fish tacos and pizza. But after about 6-7 visits, I've decided I will not go back. The service is disorganized and slow. On two visits they've lost track of our drink orders. Once they forgot that we were waiting for a table, and didn't seat us when they could have. Today, we asked for coffee and water. They were out of clean glasses so couldn't provide the water. We three were served coffee, but no cream or spoons. Eventually I got up from the table to ask for those and sometime later received them. Then we asked for refills that never came. Eventually, the waiter plopped down one cup of coffee in front of one of the three of us, with no refills for the other two. It took a long time for the meals to come. The waitstaff are friendly but just don't take good care of the customers. Also, today I had the garden omelette with potatoes and bacon. It was very ordinary and too oily for me. Last night my boyfriend and I ordered carryout for the first time from Wild Tomato. I ordered the seared tuna salad which was absolutely amazing. The tuna was so fresh. My boyfriend ordered the stuffed fish tacos which was something he would never of tried or ordered but said they were absolutely delicious! The customer service and friendliness of the entire staff is awesome! Next time we will be sure to dine-in. read more

Not sure what the deal is but they have really dropped the ball this spring and summer. So, I live in the area and dine (or used to anyway) at Wild Tomato pretty regularly. I would say the last three times, maybe four, it has been below average to down right bad on this last trip. On this last go on a Sat night the host forgot about us at the bar. The waiter delivered the appetizer at the same time as the entrees. He dropped everything off like he worked for the post office next door, never to return to ask if we wanted a drink or even how we were doing. He was not in the weeds because the restaurant was not crowded by the time he took our order. He did ask after we were finished with the meal and the table was being cleared, which is just lame. As for the meal this last time, the fish in the fish tacos was kind of mushy. The potato mash under the salmon was a garlic bomb. The artichoke dip was over-cooked and dry, like it was old and they just popped it in the microwave. The margaritas were uncharacteristically sweet, poorly mixed, and very light on tequila. Wasn't sure what to expect, but was very impressed with the prices and food at Wild Tomato. Had the fish tacos and asked for a substitute of salad, instead of the tortilla chips. The salad amount was incredibly generous, dressed perfectly, and very fresh. The fish tacos were great, although they could have added a bit more heat in the chipotle sauce and a bit more guacamole. Two friends treated me to lunch today in celebration of my eighty-sixth birthday come Sunday. I live less than a mile away and was most interested in the restaurant. I had the shrimp salad sandwich, excellent, and french fries which I normally do not eat but I will always make an exception for WT's fries. Two of us shared the cupcake and thought the chocolate icing perfect, the cake part only ordinary. I will go back but I know that I can never persuade my husband to accompany me as he won't wait five minutes for a table and unless you go early for lunch or dinner you will have to wait. Too noisy for me but the food is good and so is the service so I will put up with the noise. read more

i have been to wild tomato now three times and every time i walk away i am displeased. The service is terrible! It took us forever to get our servers attention. She was never on the floor so we had to ask other servers for help. This is the same problem i have had every time i have gone. The food takes forever to come out and two time things have been wrong. Some of the food is good but some is flavorless. We love persimmons food since it has so much flavor but the wild tomato is bland. I dont think that i will be going back since the service was so bad and never seems to improve. read more

Simple and really good. The brunch omelette plate and the chicken cobb salad were both huge and surprisingly well balanced in the ingredients. At first we thought the place bait pricey, but it's at the base of Seven Locks and the salad was big enough to ask for awake home box. The two waitresses were sweet. read more

Perfect neighborhood place. We have been missing a local place to eat for 20 years. Wild T. Is perfect. There is something for everyone. You can a good personal pizza or you you can have a great piece of fish. Everything from spaghetti and meatballs to a fancy special. Everything is good. You leave satisfied but not stuffed. Stay at home moms, rejoice!! This is a place that understands the needs of toddlers and preschoolers. Stop by during their fantastic happy hour. Get yourself a glass of wine, the kids some juice, a plate of nachos (toppings on the side), and a meatball slider. Et voila! Happy kids! And great servers to chat with for some adult conversation. I went for the first time recently with my children. We live in Cabin John and were excited to have a new restaurant in the neighborhood. The interior is really cute, the wait staff was friendly, and the food was reasonable. We were seated right away but unfortunately had to wait almost 45 minutes for our food to come to the table. (We did not have a complicated order.) Our server rarely came back to our table to see how we were doing. I was perplexed by the wait and lack of attention as the restaurant is so small; the same customers who were there eating and lingering over a glass of wine when we arrived were still there when we left the restaurant. I have heard they are tied up with carry-out orders. I'm sure they need this source of revenue as there is such a slow turnover of the tables; however, it results in an unacceptable wait. If the food came out sooner there would probably be a quicker turnover--less wait for tables and, hopefully, less inclination on the part of clients to "squat" at a table for 2 hours, long after they have finished eating. I hope things can be tweaked a bit as I would like to see this restaurant succeed. read more

This place should be called the rotten tomato. The food was pretty awful. We went for dinner, and ordered a pizza with mushrooms, and fish tacos. The pizza was inedible, the mushrooms tasted burnt and had a taste of wine. The cheese was a mixture that didn't work. The waiter was very nice, and took the pizza back. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. The chicken was so overcooked and hard, you couldn't bite into it or cut it. The fish taco had fish that was very overcooked and charred. I felt bad for the nice waiter. Needless to say, We will not be returning to Wild Tomato. read more

This is such a great restaurant! As I am a resident of Cabin John, finally a great restaurant me and my family can walk to! I ordered a diet gin and tonic to start and it was lovely. I was seated within 10 minutes, and my friend got a house salad, and he said it was wonderful. I got pan seared mahi mahi with a corn and potato hash, all soaked in a lemon butter sauce. I don't think I've ever had such delicious mahi mahi, I cleaned my plate! My friend got the chicken club and I tried some of his fries and they were perfectly cooked. While Wild Tomato might remind you of a Bethesda restaurant, it is something else entirely. Unlike Bethesda restaurants, this restaurant has a small town feel. Waiters and bartenders laugh and smile, and the people, whether good friends, family, or two people in love, they all just rejoice and enjoy their delicious food. The atmosphere of this place it what makes it truly great. Please come to Wild Tomato, even if you live downtown, this restaurant is better than spending $300 at Komi or The Source. Maybe you decide not to come, this restaurant will still be great. read more

We have eaten here about 10 times. I would rate the food a 4 star, but the wait has always been long and often 30 minutes MORE than we were told. The bar is usually packed as there is limited seating . When u wait you are squeezed into a very small waiting area . When we got there we told the hostess that there were 6 people . She told me 30 minutes. Then I noticed a table for 3 and a table for 2 outside. Although it was humid I did not want to wait 30 minutes, which I knew would turn into an hour, so I asked if I could move the table for 2 next to the 3 and would they have a problem. I told her I needed to call my friend who were on their way to make sure they could take the heat outside. It was very HOT inside ,too, I told her I was going to call them, so I went outside since you couldn't hear anything in the restaurant and two minutes later the hostess proceeded to put 3 people at the table that I thought was going to be ours I went over to Christina and said you didn't give me an opportunity to get in touch, and her answer was first come first serve. She was rude and did not apologize. All in all the place has pretty good food but seems very disorganized, not enough help and it will be a while before I return. They seem to have the attitude that they don't need the business- and maybe they don't. .They won't be getting mine for a while. read more

So, my family absolutely adores this restaurant and we go every Friday. It's usually decent to pretty good in my opinion. I've tried almost everything on the menu. The last time I went, a week ago, I ordered the Steak Frits. I like my steak rare to medium rare, and I decided I wanted a nice juicy rare steak tonight. What I got was an practically inedible steak that they cooked the crap out of! Seriously, I could not even chew through it it was so overcooked. I have order this entree many times before and they usually get it right, but definitely not this time! On top of that, my cousin got the shrimp and grits, but hardly touched it because it was so over seasoned. The clam strips are delicious, even my aunt who hates anything clam related tried one and went back for more! In the past I have really enjoyed the clams and linguini (with white sauce). The red pepper flakes make the taste nice and just a touch spicy, which I love! Salads are good, but we usually share ours between two people because it's too much for one person. The pizza sucks to me, but my parents love it. The only pizza I like from there is the white pizza with Caramelized onions. Also, I avoid the nachos because they look like something I could get a Chilies lol. They waitstaff is nice and accommodating! The restaurant is always clean too. But I'm only giving this two stars because, really who does that to a steak?! read more
