After taking my wife here for her birthday, I decided to come back and see if the experience would be just as good--or perhaps even better--than our first visit. Service got off to a slow start this time. It took long enough that my daughter eventually got up to find our server so we could get water. There was also some initial confusion about how we wanted the check split, but once that was sorted out, our server was attentive, friendly, and did an excellent job. We have no complaints about the service after that point. We ordered several of the same appetizers as our previous visit: the Artichoke & Spinach Dip and the Crispy Thai Brussels. We also tried the Crabby Fries, which weren't on the menu during our last visit. All three appetizers were fantastic and just as memorable as before. Three of us ordered drinks. I had a Bloody Mary, and while it wasn't quite as impressive as the one I had during my previous visit, it was still enjoyable. As for the food, I'll start with the few disappointments. My wife ordered a fish dish and upgraded to the crispy potatoes, which are excellent when prepared properly. Unfortunately, the fish was placed directly on top of the potatoes, leaving them soggy rather than crispy by the time the dish reached the table. That was especially disappointing considering the additional charge for the upgrade. On our last visit, two Steak Frites orders were overcooked. This time, my daughter ordered the same dish and requested medium-rare, assuming it might come out a little over. Instead, it arrived rare. Fortunately, she was fine with it. My parents both ordered the Black & Bleu Penne, and while the filet tips in both dishes were overcooked, they remained surprisingly juicy. Another member of our party ordered the Chicken Pesto Sandwich and was disappointed by the soggy bread and somewhat lackluster flavor. I ordered the Chicken Marsala, and it was very good. It wasn't a traditional Chicken Marsala as I'm accustomed to, but it was flavorful, unique, and ultimately satisfying. After two visits, here's my overall impression: the service has been consistently good, though not exceptional. The flavors, however, have been outstanding every time. The kitchen clearly knows how to develop great flavors, and that consistency keeps us coming back. If you're ordering a steak dish, just be aware that the final temperature may not always be exactly as requested. That said, we've visited with large groups both times--eight people on our first visit and seven on our second--so it's possible some dishes spend extra time waiting in the window while the rest of the order is completed. Overall, this is a solid 4.5-star restaurant in our opinion. Unfortunately, Yelp doesn't allow half-star ratings, so I'm giving it 4 stars. Despite a few execution issues, the food quality and flavor are strong enough that we'd gladly return again. read more

Another awesome trip to Hunter's. I had a burger with a gluten free bun, bacon, and onions, but no cheese. I also had a fruit cup which was awesome. I took my lactose pills and had ice cream for dessert. A friend had a baked chicken breast and fries. If you live in the area and have not tried hunters, I highly recommend it. read more

So the food may have been great, will never know. Went there for a lunch with my wife. We like to order each course one at a time. Reduces over ordering and waste. Well we order a simple beet salad and Brussel sprouts. Thirty minutes later, no food and no update. Asked for the manager, didn't come till we were walking out. Came to Potomac on a work trip. Met a friend from the area here. I wasn't incredibly hungry so I thought I'd get an appetizer nacho. HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!! It could feed 3 people! And it was delicious. Best guacamole I've ever had came with it. Our server was wonderful- very attentive, kept checking on us. My friend had fish and chips. That looked pretty mouthwatering! He ended with bread pudding. I wasn't incredibly full but it looked so good I forced a couple bites. AMAZING! It was a gorgeous night out for outdoor seating and lots of people were taking advantage of it, which I loved so I could hear the conversation I was having. read more

It's a dive bar, but it's a Potomac MD dive bar. All the warmth and charm of a poorly remodeled strip mall. I remember fondly the days when a French Dip would come with an entire cup (8 oz) of Au Jus, but not so at this venue. Here you're lucky to get 2 oz of this precious liquid. They metered it out more carefully than a single malt Scotch. I will add that I was provided 2 oz more when I asked for more to go, and as the gracious moderator highlighted, was provided those 2 extra oz, "at no additional charge" LMAO! All that said, the bartenders are not shy with their pours, and what little food you are allowed is very very tasty. Hence my 3 of 5 review. Ok...here we go! I have been coming to Hunters for years and the ambience has always been great and the food is bar food - it is a bar, but $24 for a hamburger! Are you nuts! I know the neighbourhood is a bit gold plated, but the food is not - I got a cheeseburger and fries at Mission BBQ for $13 and it was huge! The math works there and does not work at Hunter's and I just cannot recommend you for value anymore. Taking advantage of your neighbourhood locals is pretty low and I venture to bet your gonna lose a lot more than customers. Not a review i ever thought i would write. read more

A quick stop by. Ordered appetizers and drinks. Had aperol spritz, which was not on the menu (thank you Mr. Bartender) mussels in white wine, waygu sliders and calamari. Mussels were pretty decent, a lot of garlic though but I enjoyed it. There was a live jazz band with a singer ( they come every first Thursdays of the month) and they were entertaining! The server was super nice and the whole atmosphere was laid back. It's an older crowd but everyone was super friendly. It felt very "cheers," bar where everyone seems to know everyone. When I requested one, I was told they were reserved, although a number of them remained empty throughout my visit. Later, a staff member approached me again and repeated, "I cannot give you the round table," without offering any explanation. We live about three minutes away, but had never been in and then we went in for Mother's Day brunch- which was a truly great selection of breakfast and lunch foods. It was amazing, they accommodated our large group beautifully with excellent service. Highly recommend and looking forward to going back for more meals. read more

This is a review for our meal which we ordered through Uber Eats. My husband and I got the steak burrito and the smash burger, and both were great portions and very delicious. The items travelled well, although they were a short distance of 7-10 minutes. I've recently been on a smash burger kick, so I absolutely had to try this one. The meat was cooked perfectly and the cheese melted off just right. The entire burger was fresh, not soggy, and just bursting with flavor. My husband couldn't finish his burrito, and it just so happens the next day I took a bite, and even a day later and cold, it was extremely delicious. I should also mention that the french fries were also delicious. Not overly greasy, and just enough seasoning. My husband and I are going to dine in person soon and we look forward to trying something new! read more

We tried....... Pulled up for this afternoon's Happy Hour. Upon checking-in, we were asked to move our cars in the parking lot. No other place to relocate, so moved down the road. Too hard. Edit: Thanks to Adam for his response, but as I wrote, too difficult to patronize a restaurant that we've been to on many occasions, when parking is not available and they choose to value carry-out orders over dine-in patrons. Appreciate that they have carry-out business, but they just disenfranchised two longtime customers who were merely trying to park. A business decision that customers don't need to buy into. The food is better now. The service remains good. I am delighted to report that the "Hunter's Burger" remains a tasty and well prepared pub burger. Overall, the food seems to actually have seasoning now! French onion soup was good! Zero taste or preparation points of contention. My Old Fashioned was hand made and acceptable. My humble suggestions for minor improvements: Use a single large ice cube for the Old Fashioned; Provide a choice of a few high-end condiments for the burger. Use fewer potatoes in the Chicken Pot Pie, and maybe a tad less "soupy". But really, the restaurant is now an improved version of it's former self! read more

Made a reservation a few days before coming. Parking was absolutely terrible, be sure to come a little early or know to park in the back lot! There was no parking in the front when we arrived. When we entered, the hostess was confused when we gave her my name for the reservation and said she couldn't find my name... but we ended up being ok as it wasn't too busy. There was a party in the front room and they weren't loud which was good. The dining area is a bit dark and my grandfather is severely visually impaired so it was a bit difficult for him. Our waiter was kind, came to check on us once or twice, although we did need to ask for water refills. We got three glasses of wine, one per person, they were all very good. Large selection of wine, although it was very limited for per glass, you essentially needed to buy the bottle for almost all of them, definitely depends on what you what. You get a basket of bread rolls after you order, they gave us three rolls, which in my opinion, is very skimpy. The entrees were great. We got trout, chicken kabobs and scallops, all plates were cleaned off! The seafood was cooked well and so was the chicken. Overall the meal was good but nothing too special. Will probably come back and try a few more things as we didn't get apps or dessert. I will say the lit fire was a nice touch to the overall atmosphere. read more

A local favorite in Potomac Village, yet not coasting on their reputation. I think they've actually upped their game recently. They have limited patio seating and a two part interior with bar/booths and a separate 'nicer' dining room. Menu is both traditional and thoughtful, lots of (good) salads, along with a reasonably wide range of entrees featuring burgers, ribs and mostly American dishes. We went for lunch today and the Reuben sandwich is pictured. Big and yummy. Service is predictably friendly and generally fast, making Hunter's a true hybrid between a burger bar and a white tablecloth establishment. And that's a good idea. read more

I've been going to Hunter's Bar and Grill for about 25 years now, under the old ownership and now under the new. The place is an institution of sorts and has had a loyal clientele over the years. For the most part, I support the new ownership and the changes they have made. I saw a number of negative reviews concerning various aspects of the menu, service, and atmosphere since handing over the reins and at least in my experience, most seem unwarranted and reactionary. This is a place where regulars have gone for decades now, and I'm guessing that some of these reviews reflect a stubbornness and unwillingness to accept even the slightest changes and attempts to modernize the business. Most of the old staff have been retained and the menu is not radically different. The specials and drinks are still great deals. Today I had the Hunter's Burger and margaritas and honestly it was possibly the best I've had it there, and I've had this meal dozens of times. Perfect medium rare and the fries were superb as well. There's a different energy here now and some new/fresh blood with the greeters, chef, and even the clientele and to me, it's welcome. As much as I have always enjoyed coming here, it was getting a bit staid and stale. There are live entertainment nights as well now. Interesting. read more

I got food poisoning after going here. And the service seemed peeved at me for asking a question about my food. Honestly I can't remember the conversation, but I was polite and got bad body language and impatience, it seemed to me. I had their burger, which had an off color to it. It seems inconsistently brown across the patty, as if it was either tampered with or cooked unevenly, or it was left out, or something. It was just off. I ate it anyway to not be rude to my group, to seem like the weird person overthinking burger color, or to be rude to the service staff. I don't want to be that guy. But... when I got home and some time later, I was absolutely dealing with food poisoning and only in hindsight realized I shouldn't have eaten the patty. The wait staff, both the hostess and the male waiter serving me seemed off as soon as I came in. The hostess didn't seem to have patience for me asking about something (what I mentioned at the start of the review) and, after that point, the male waiter seemed just off to me who was serving us. Maybe the two things were unrelated. Maybe he was just a quirky guy, I thought, as I ate my food. But after I got poisoned here, it all seemed to fit together like maybe they messed with my food Bold accusation I know. But I got food poisoning from this place, I thought the patty looked weird, and I thought the staff was acting strange and also upset with me. So the narrative comes together in my head like maybe they did something to tamper with my food. No evidence but what I've stated above. I'm sorry if for some reason I'm mistaken by all of this. But you know what, even if they didn't tamper with my food, I none the less would give this place one star for the fact I got sick from their food and the staff was indeed odd and not the most polite with me. It still enrages me to this day, months later, at the very possibility that they messed with me like that, or even if they simply mishandled their food sanitation enough to even mistakenly poison me. Just awful. This place is dead to me. If I had evidence of tampering I would report this to an inspector. read more

A large piece of under seasoned tasteless, grits with slightly melted cheese on top. I was expecting a fried grit cake. I had one bite. Had the best cheeseburger I've had in many months - cooked perfectly (just shy of medium as requested), well seasoned, flavorful meat and a bun that worked. Fantastic experience. Our server Melissa took great care of us. Fried chicken special was moist, crunchy and perfectly seasoned. Steak Frites was cooked as requested and scrumptious. For a Sunday brunch, we visited Hunters. Very accommodating by giving us an outdoor table in the shade in the recent heat. We all started our brunch with drinks. The bloody Mary's were meh. A shot of Tito's and a watered down mix. Not even a stalk of celery. Save your money. I ordered an omelette. Nothing fancy, bacon, cheese & bell peppers. When it arrived in its overdone condition, there was no bacon or cheese. Our waiter cheerfully replaced it with an equally morose clone. This one had cheese & bacon bits. I didn't eat it, but regret not taking it home to patch my rubber boots. It was over done and to my pallet, inedible. Sorry Hunters, you need to improve. read more
